Feast Jobs That Make Ya Wanna Praise or Punch A Baby

Just to be able to hear second opinions on the above, just thought Id ask which jobs make you happiest to see on team, and saddest?

For me, as a melee...probably happiest to see an ast on team regardless of team setup. Theyre annoying but a skilled ast can tank better than a normal tank.

Currently, brd is the one job that seems like it should be removed from pt altogether. Get next to one and they turn to mana drains for the healer immediately.

I get happy when I see an AST haha :D

brd and blm, remove it, yes please.

i don't wanna be an a**hole, probably if well played they are good... but for now i've found only MEH..

When I get a BLM I feel like I'm down a DPS.

Many, many, many ppl feel this way. No one wants to see a blm on their team. By far much worse than brd on avg. By roles as teammates for me (from the standpoint of me being melee):

Tank: Paladin > Warrior >> Dark knight (Love paladin but wont complain if I get war either. Dark knight feels kinda lack luster but they can tank with medals well too)
Heal: Astrologian >= White mage >>> Scholar (Truth be told I'd rather have a whm over ast if the whm is skilled since whm cc is pretty beast in there but alas skilled whm are rare. I cringe a little though when i get sch)
Ranged: Summoner > Machinist >> Bard >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Black Mage (If i see a blm in party it feels like a loss already. Have only run into 1 skilled blm in my 35 matches thus far)

No one said DRK right now?
Morethan once as SCH I was able to cast Adlo on me, cast adlo on a party member, then cast adlo again on me and the DRK wasn't still able to break it (I had 20% buff... but it was still strange to me)

Right now I like more to have a DRG or MNK in party than a Nin,
for ranged I'm still in love with SMN, but this is just a personal opinion.

The only two good ranged classes are SMN and MCH. SMN is ridiculously strong, In fact smn is so strong that you absolutely want a monk to one ilm them asap otherwise they are probably the strongest DPS in game especially if they take both offense and defense.

War and Pld are almost interchangeable to me. Pld has more team utility (though that utility is split across healer support or Dps support), but War isn't far behind and makes up for the difference with higher dps. In terms of healer harassment, a good War can actually exceed a Pld. Their high dps pressures the healer to split their attention to healing themselves, rather than just get a temporary interruption from a stun. I've seen them used to great effect this way.

In regards to healers, in general it's always nice too see an Astro in the group just because they can tank their own dmg without needing someone to hold their hand and baby sit them. That said, the absolute best healing that I've ever seen in a Feast match so far was from a Whm who knew how to rotate their Fluid Aura + Repose. I never had the fortune of playing with this player (go figure), but they have definitely been the most annoying healer to play against, so far.

As for dps, I'm with omst people here. For ranged dps Smn or Mch are the preferred choice. Brd is alright, but I'm not all that happy to see them. Blm's are scrapping the dirt off the floor below the barrel. I, too, have only seen one Blm who was actually an asset to the team and outputted good dps numbers. The rest of them have been a tremendous loss to dps, and almost guarantees the loss of the match.

Melee dps is a little trickier. The team compositions (both for and against) really decides which melee I'm happy to see. For example, if the tank is a War, then I'm very happy to see a Nin. If the enemy ranged is a smn, then I hope to see a mnk on my team. If the ranged is a brd, then they pair best with a drg. etc. I can't really pick one over the other arbitrarily, because the team comps make a big difference to how much utility they have.

This is true, but Smn's also have a major downside. If you have a Smn on your team then it is almost required for them to take the def buff at the start of the match, because, otherwise, they'll die.

Smn's are very strong, but they're a glass cannon. Some of the fastest ending matches I've seen so far are ones in which my Dps team jumped the Smn immediately and pounded them into oblivion. If you can't kill them right away, then settle for their pet. That throws a wrench in the works too. Nine times out of ten, they are an asset and stand above everyone in dmg, but if you get a team who knows how to exploit their shortcomings then they can quickly turn into the weak link of the team and cost you the match.

The thing is glass cannon only applies if they're not defensively strong, however, paired with an AST and taking the defense buff they become a lot stronger than glass. Mind you they're still very much killable but your healer needs to be prepared for their burst as well. Smn was already too strong in FL this format is no different except it gives them access to a defensive buff.

A good SMN is ridiculous. a bad summoner can still nuke one of your bad players before you can deal with it.

The problem imo is that summoner is so good that I dread seeing another ranged.

Pretty much agree with every point stated so far, especially Cynric's last comment. To be sure...don't wanna come off like this is a 'lets hate all brds/blms vent. In the right hands (Dani Ross/ Bananajuice for example) the jobs are respectable enough. It just feels like with the jobs mechanics for the effort involved, at BEST..they just break even. In both cases, IF the job is ignored..they can do great things.But if focused? smn vs blm: a focused smn can still unload heavily while on the run, blm, next to none. mch vs brd..same thing....mch can 'full'burst on the fly, + heavy targets (which im starting to find surprisingly tactical lol) and still retain a shread of decency against closers if that turrent is out. Brd...cant fully burst while moving, suffers from somewhat larger cds for its binds/ pushbacks.

Kinda still out for lunch regarding tanks. Just due to previous experiences in WD, when tanks decide to follow their second calling of ' i r a dps tew dammit!' and go after other targets aside from healer pestering...id rather have a war over a pld or drk. If plds actually doing his 'job' (ya ya..politically incorrect word there) and riding the healer all the way back to his innroom, maybe pld. Otherwise war. Sure there are some skilled drks who are doing great things but havent seen anything tideworthy in general yet for them so D:

Meleewise...even though i be drg, gonna have to put my pride aside and give mnk the vote 100% for 1 inch punch ><; Just being able to strip the clothes.err..buffs off that cute lil lala smn and be able to appreciate her inner beauty more without all the barriers to get in the way..ooo lala~ same thing for healers. As for nins..well..purely so as not to offend anyone, i'll just pretend its ballista again, I ate some sushi..and all the shadows are down. ;o Unlike the brd vs smn thing though...nin can play better than mnk and drg in contribution for the team so with them, guess it just depends 101% on the user's style. ...*coughbutgenerallyninsuxj/kcough*

Healer department? With a few freak exceptions (like a big fat huggable snowman roe whm who shall forever remain nameless) quit being lazy and go lvl ast lol ..j/k j/k. Seriously, the jobs built for pvp like no other. As Dimitri said..theyre the one job 'usually' that can carry its own weight for extended time w/o breaking under pressure. As a melee..it gets downright tiring seeing 0, 0, 0, hit after hit on your target because that ast is doing his thing.

Bard is good, if not better than MCH.

Their burst is quicker to get off and not reliant on stuns. Barrage + Emp arrow, Sidewinder, Farshot = 70% if not more of someone's HP.

Also their damage is more consistent as they don't rely on ammunition.

You need wm to do that and time sorry this is not pve and even in pve mch burst wins bard. Mch is a better dps in pvp by far.

I rarely see any bards use wardens paean. Doesn't it remove a rebuff and the next within 45 sec?

If you can't get a single cast off for EMP arrow then you're not a good bard...Sorry, I'm not going to sit here and agree just because a less than average MCH is more valuable than a less than average BRD. A good BRD can accomplish more than a good MCH, as they can do it alone, and they have Warden's Paen, which is an extremely valuable ability that can cancel out tri-disasters and prevent stun locks.

Seems like people play bards wrong and they get a lot of flax for it.

Well with more than 200 matches i never saw a bard performance that well, but no one can say they beat mch in the game if you put both good players Mch wins is a fact. Mch burst is the stronger in the game in pve and pvp. Good bards can performance well, but not as mch

Lez see..what else. Oh ja~ Lez compare the once rumored to be ranged/300 potency 'Blast Shot" to 'Death Flare. *Keep in mind this is supposed to be a 'melee job vs a 'caster' job. "Blast Shot..with 3 upgrades...120 sec recast....5....yes...5 yalms (isnt sweetspot said to be 15 which makes the damage increase useless?) vs longrange, instant cast aoe deathflare. The job as it currently is is a joke. A 'focused' brd is absolute garbage.

Woulda given you SOME credit til you included the Warden's Paen-extremely valuable words all in one sentence. This ability is a poor man's Fetter Ward that quietly drops off the minute so much as a fart is thrown a brd's way. Kinda like Perfect Dodge...but oh ya..nin's actually got upgraded to something more useful O_O

As someone who hit Light Party Diamond tier as Bard with a 98% win rate (the majority of the games also with a ninja, arguably weaker than DRG/MNK paired with a Bard right now), I can say that it's definitely not a bad ranged job. However, it's quite difficult to play with juggling WM, maintaining sweet spot position, and utilizing Wardens Paean effectively. Summoner appears strongest (and arguably is the strongest ranged currently) because the skill required to execute their damage isn't too high (not to say they don't take skill, good summoners still outshine average ones).

Comparing Bard to Machinist, both jobs have their ups and downs, but I do not think one outshines the other by a large margin.

In light party communication and synchronization come first than the job power difference.

I can see in being valuable during burst phase where they either CC someone or debuff someone with dmg inc buff, so no, it's extremely valuable

In solo queue 4v4 when you get bard or blm its almost always loose ... Only few % can play BLM but 90% of time they will do like 10k dmg

i find it hard to use wanderers in feast.. since dps always go for ranged 1st since we are pests for thier heals.. sometime i manage to get the healer alone for a quick bind + barrage + empolyean arrow then gotta run til cooldown expires to turn it off since the dragoon is back lol

DRK has some big issues in the feast.

Damage is a huge issue. It's very ignorable, so no one cares if you're focusing a target. While the damage potential is nearly the same as the other tanks on paper, in practice DRK has low damage because of your reliance on MP. Of the two methods to regenerate MP, one is made useless due to the soft spoken rule that tanks are not to be primary targets (unless you're a thorn in the enemy's side, but that never happens.) So, goodbye blood price! What about blood weapon? Well, it's very much guaranteed you will not get as much MP from it as you'd have liked because not every hit will connect. Then it goes on cooldown. Keep in mind darkside's natural drain. Second, since you are not the target everyone is hitting, there goes the potential damage from low-blow resets and reprisal procs right out the window. This leaves you with the option of spamming delirium, and no one cares if you do. Also, salted earth gets thrown out the window as well because no one would dare stand in that for more than a second. Actually, maybe they wouldn't care because your damage sucks anyways. By the time you know it, you're in a sitaution where you're starving for MP. Goodbye DA C&S, DP, and any more DASE combos!


Well, if damage isn't an option, how about utility? No, they don't have that either. Tar pit and carnal chill are nice (not great, just nice), but the long cooldown makes them impractical. When it comes to tankiness, they're lacking options. WAR have thrill or war and battle, vegneance, raw intuiton+awareness, second wind and equilibrium. I don't even need to go into what PLD has. DRK? Oh, they're supposed to be the tank taht specializes in mitigating magic damage. That'd be great, except half the damage of every team is going to be physical at the very least. They don't even make great medal scavengers.

PLD has cover, a 9 sec. stun (if played correctly), lots of utility, and a shield. WAR has holmgang, thrill of war, and great burst. DRK.... has a gap closer. That's it. SE, please buff this class! Buff this thing's damage so it's a threat that others must target. If you won't do that, give them some utility that at least makes them as desirable a tank to have like the other two. If both those options are a no go, I'm begging here, at least make them tankier so if they have no damage or utlity, at least they'll make decent hoarders of medals. I'm asking for very little at this point, because that's how little DRK has.

In a pvp match Pld is annoying at the start but later the become a kind of a weak support class, Pld don't have good burst dmg. War is to strong during all the fight make then very hard to play against. Drk is ... I don't know I never saw one causing me trouble in the feast. Actually the are there just because looks a cool class to play. They need big help in pvp, plus fell cleave is to op in pvp because everyone build their set based in crit. But if for some reason they let us use pvp materia Pld will be mutch weak to.

I would like bards and mch more if they used their instant cast pvp mp restore on me ;-; they never seem to, even when I spam the chat with macros.
But yeah, as a healer, I fear wars and plds far more than I fear drks. they need some kind of buff.

I thank my lucky stars (astro pun) that warriors were nerfed in pvp, I once got hit in the face with a 9k crit in the past, and my friend once critted 11k with his fell cleave on a smn that had vul. debuffs on him.

Warden's Paean is a double Esuna. It removes an existing enfeeblement and prevents the next one with no cast time and a relatively short 45 second cooldown. I don't know about you but I tend to save my Purifies for keeping myself or allies alive or in the fight, so I certainly appreciate helping them out with their 10 second Bind, their 6+ second Heavy, their 12+ second Sleep, a 6 second Holmgang or hard-focused allies from an existing DoT in addition to the very next CC attempt dropped on them.... all without having to waste a valuable Purify.

I tried it few times and got some bad words against me, in a 8vs8 pattern BLM works fine to me, until there is a little chaos and you can pop a Leylines withoug get istantly chased you can throw fire IV that actually hit pretty hard.
But in 4vs4 you become a Crowd controller for the 70% of the match and if you party break your spleeps/bind you are just useless (In my opinion, I'm sure that there are some good BLMs and I would like to learn form them xD).
I tought that BLM could be a good class for party vs party matches and a good cordination, but for solo que... actually if I want to DPS I just go SMN expecially after a match ended in something like 40 sec where as BLM I did 13 damage ._.

I still get hits with 4.2k dmg and when you face a war/smn , war/whm, war/blm make then really good in a 4vs4 solo because of the sleep or the dots so you may have to use your purify and is almost impossible some one using on you. And than the stun plus a double fell clear is just rip if crit 2 times in a row. i'm still trying to found a way to survive if both crits. And i haven't found yet and i use vit acc, but if a dps hits me during that i still die.

My go to 4v4 is War, Ast, Smn, Nin. Nin can sneak stun and war comes and stun then smn just blows up the heals before he can even react. I cry when i get a Drk and Blm, it's so easy for that Blm to get interrupted and Drks are just useless in general.

Melee dps is pretty much the only role where the jobs within it are interchangeable to the degree where most people aren't queuing into a ranked match hoping a specific job within the class doesn't end up being on their team. Sure it might be handy having a mnk say for one ilm punch against a sch but with sch being so weak compared to the other 2 heals having a mnk in party to specifically counter the sch is hardly mandatory. Healer, tank and ranged classes all have that 1 or 2 jobs within the class that you don't wanna see on your team. Though I don't hate dark knight quite as much as other ppl seem to, however there's no mistaking the other 2 tanks are noticeably more useful.

As things stand..my own record in solo is HORRIBLE now (49%?). While its largely due to my own stupidity..the number of times I HAVE won...the greater majority have been with smns who are able to hold their own when focused

When the game is imbalanced like this, people should just do it as WAR/AST/SMN/BRD.

and if you want to be one of the weaker jobs, make sure you join the opposite team of mine.

Something wrong with that set up champ.

I have no issues playing MCH in solo or 8v8. I have yet to play blm yey cause I just don't see what merit it gives in solo honestly. Blm is better premades and I never get to play range cause I'm the only one in my group that has melee leveled so kinda forced on that.

MCH is strong. However, I have seen only 1 other MCH actually know how to play the job correctly... Lol. Guess I'm gonna have to make BLM work too cause apparently it's difficult to play. >_>
