Join in progress should probably join a party in progress?

So last night, im on my DPS and I start getting my roulette's done. I got for leveling roulette, I have join in progress ticked because I like to live dangerously.

I got Tam Tara NM, nice and easy, but there was no healer either. So I got my wife to come and heal it for us, she selected Leveling roulette, all languages and in progress, que popped instantly for a new dungeon, not ours. The only way she could get into ours was queing Tam Tara directly, not as part of the roulette and selecting in progress.

Later that same night, we both DPS, 50 Roulette, Tam Tara HM, Tank is WaaaaaaaaaY too skilled for this dungeon and refuses to do anything asking to be kicked, we wait for him to drop so he can take his penalty (because if you do that its what you deserve). Healer is new to the dungeon, I say NP I'll tank it for us to get us through it, leave, select roulette in progress, only gives me a fresh dungeon, have to select Tam Tara Hm on its own to get in.

So why is this being so inconsistent? It let me in the first one in progress just fine when it had no healer, so why be a pain when the healer wants to come in? The guys have waited way longer than anyone else in the que to get a full party...

It has to do with the algorithm they use to match a player. For whatever reason the new system that shows how long the run has been going on is less helpful verse the old one that showed how many people are currently in progress.

Join in progress lets you join a party in progress, but it doesn't prioritize it. You'll still go to whoever's been in the queue longer.

For in-progress, you join the queue when the party leader clicks the button to replace missing party members. It isn't based on how long you've already been in the dungeon.
This is why the roulette is very likely to just pair you with a new dungeon, since some of the dps in there are likely upwards of 20+ min wait.
If someone has queued for a specific dungeon, in-progress will also pair you with them in a new dungeon before it will let you join the party in progress, if they were queued first.

Yeah... JIP should get priority imo, but maybe it's just me...

Why would you queue for the whole roulette if you're trying to get into one specific dungeon? Of course that's gonna match you up with something different. If only because there's a good chance you're not the only dungeon needing in progress joiners.

Its not unreasonable to think that someone who is helping you out by joining in progress and effectively bailing the party out of a bad situation should maybe get the reward from doing a roulette instead of just queing the dungeon and getting no benefit.

JIP should get priority if its ticked is all...

The old display was not how many people were in the party, it was how many objectives in the duty were fulfilled (except 24-man raids where it was always 0/1). For instance a display of 1/3 meant 1 achieved goal over 3, i.e. in general, first boss killed.

It is also not unreasonable to think that you would get not the wanted dungeon in progress if you increase the selection of potential dungeons with the roulette instead of keeping the potential as low as possible with selecting only the specific dungeon.
Also don't select the languages that are not present in the party.

It actually really bugs me that there isn't a way to invite someone into or select a specific in-progress instance to join. It's one of the many little things about this game that seem to almost actively discourage socialization.

Join party in progress should bring up a list of instances looking for members and list the player names and respective classes, that way you see party composition and best make an informed decision on what to bring to the party. Or join a buddy. But apparently nothing can be that simple.

Because if it's like other games, it'll get abused. You know how annoying it'll be if you joined a group as a DRG after a 20+ minute queue, only to get in a party that has a DRG, and they want to kick you just to invite their MNK buddy?

No one would ever join parties if they saw certain things then. Pair of new DPS in AV waiting for a tank and heal? They'll be waiting forever for no one. Any Steps or Bismark will also be similarly ignored.

More transparency would just invite abuse. They won't do this for the same reason they removed the "In progress" notifier on the queue window and added a penalty for repeated withdraws: it keeps people from cherrypicking runs, leaving some groups stranded indefinitely. The current system also attempts to ensure that older groups get filled first. If we used your suggestions the entire system would immediately devolve into a clusterfuck with most stranded groups getting stuck in an infinite queue limbo. It'll also have a severe impact on the number of fresh groups being made, slowing down the system for everyone.

People may attempt to use it as such, but Join In Progress was never supposed to be something you used for your own convenience.

Uhm, have any of you got a dungeon in progress while IN ROULETTES?

Because I.... DIDN'T! In two months, not even trying it sometimes (A friend needing some help, me using the roulette instead)

For some reason, there are some patches where SE fix it, and we can queue in progress with roulettes, and then a patch that mess it, then another that fix it... I can't tell how many times I have seen this setting changing.

It used to be in a group, if the tank and/or healer bails, and I am on a DPS, and it is one of those dungeons everyone hates but I love (like AV), I will let the party know I can swap to tank (or healer) and we can keep going. A long time ago I used to ALWAYS get back into the same group. Leave, change job, specify exact dungeon, In Progress, BAM. But it seems like since 3.0, it is rare that I do get the same group. Not trying to abuse the system, just trying to help the party get through it. And of course if I am now the tank or healer, and get this OTHER group, now I feel obligated to stick with them, otherwise they would be left hanging.

In Progress should take priority. Or I dunno, somehow leave the dungeon while still in the party, change jobs, and get back in. Not sure how that could possible work through cross servers through. I get that the DF wants to stick you into the group that has been waiting longer, but if the In Progress group doesn't get a replacement, and have to re-queue, now who is really waiting longer?
