Not "Summoner", but summons. Free Companies will be able to call the summons. Summoner isn't oging to be a job itself, it doesn't look like.

Since the Summoners are too busy shaking with excitement. xDQuote:
Gamer Escape: It was mentioned that players will be able to call primal when they’ve defeated them. Does that mean we’ll see Summoner and Beastmaster types of classes and jobs?
Yoshida: We call tell you that we’ve decided to put a Summoner class in the game. I want to be a Summoner.
Thanks Alerith
I was so extremely excited by this news. I can't wait! :D
But the more interesting question is:
What will they summon?
It is safe(I think) to say that Ifrit,Ramuh,Shiva,Odin,Leviathan, and Garuda(And a giant Moogle?) won't be accessible to the summoner class/job according to the interviews.
So..do they get some of the lesser summons? spirits?
Must know. Although, I would prefer info on the beastmaster-esque job more, I'll take any pet info I can get O_O
I'd be ok with entirely new summons. Go ahead, add to the FF mythos. Players will learn to love the new summons just as much as the old ones.
whm, blm, and now smn. i can't wait......
Wait wait wait.... Moogle is a summon!?
Does Fat Chocobo get any fame too? :O
The thing is, they didn't say "special." The way it was stated told me that this was how you used summons. You had to form a free company to use them.Quote:
It was also mentioned that these would be special, group summons, most likely in the form of free companies.
We don't know that the summons will be pets, either. They could be just grand spells like in many single player ffs.
The group summons the summons, not 8 people each summoning their own.Quote:
I personally think that's a bit more reasonable than 8 people in a party each summoning their own.
I gatehred fromt he future of FFXIV notes that the summons would probably be something more like how they worked in FFXIII or something, though that is of course just a hypothesis.
The point is, we really don't know what form it will take, but you can probably be sure it's not going to be a clone of FFXI summoner.
New summoning ability available to certain jobs and classes after version 2.0.
New taming ability available to certain jobs and classes after version 2.0.
Release timing of the above abilities is to coincide with addition of new jobs and classes.
Summoned and tamed pets will not count as party members, and will develop over time. Release of a
"companion" system for these pet NPCs to fight alongside PCs.
Note: this is in the content pdf. All for 2.0 release.

Yoshida: We call tell you that we’ve decided to put a Summoner class in the game. I want to be a Summoner.
Gamer Escape: There was a tame ability mentioned as well, so does that mean Beastmaster as well?
Yoshida: Yes. The foundation or system for using pets in battle is currently being made. So yes in the future there will be a beast tamer type of class. Again, it’s all about that adding one class means adding more jobs and all these extra things. So all these jobs won’t come at the same time. It’s all about the priorities, but it is on the list and we are making preparations for it.
Like one idea could be for example maybe having a beast tamer class and that job would be like a summoner type of job.
Gamer Escape: So from bunnies to primals then?
Yoshida: Yeah, yeah, I think seeing how far you could take that class or take that job could be really interesting.
Gamer Escape: With these pets and summons.. and I believe with Chocobos it was mentioned there would be some type of growth or a way to level them up. Would this be a long term thing where the pet would gradually level over time or a short term thing where the stats of the pet would reset each time you call it?
Yoshida: Actually it was kind of all put into one thing on that document but there are three different ways to think about this. There’s a buddy system for a companion and then you have a pet system and then the summons. The beast pet would be kind of like in FFXI, where you tame it, use it and then it’s done. So there is no growth with the pet. With Summoner, what we’re thinking of is maybe when you summon for example like Carbuncle… that’s not saying that Carbuncle is coming. It’s just an example! But when you summon it at maybe level 20 there will be certain abilities that it can use and then when the Summoner is level 50, that list will be extended with level 50 abilities. Carbuncle won’t change, it will just be the abilities that it can use. Then you get the buddy system which will be with your Chocobo and your Chocobo will be yours forever. It will have a level and it will power up and grow as you feed it and use it. So yeah there are those three systems. So the confusion there where pets can level up, that’s currently not the case. They’re just a one time thing. It’s Chocobos that will have the levels.
Unless I missed something, the idea of pets and summons came up two specific times.
1. In the interviews, stating that the primals would be used as free company summons(may have also been in the outline?)
2. In the outline, there is a line mentioning pets. It mentions tameable pets and summonable spirits will be added.
Actually. Found the last one, under the Systems and Content list.
This leads me to believe that since all jobs/classes will not get the summoning ability, that they are certainly implying that it will be restricted to NOT ALL OF THEM(Edited for accuracy) .(Not including the Primal free company summons)Quote:
new summoning ability available to certain jobs and classes after version 2.0
Edit: Beaten to it :(
Well if a summoner job comes out I still couldn't see them controlling the Primals. I mean we're trying to remove them from Eorzea with good reason lol.
This statement is contradicted by the quotation you gave which says "certain jobs." Jobs is plural.Quote:

I can edit it if you like. I believe you missed the point.
Not all classes will have the ability, so this means that either.
These free company primals won't be available to every class, which would be hard to have a justified reason for.
OR, that there could be many different types of summons for different classes. And hell, the "taming" aspect could be considered another version of summoning.
Yoshida has now stated that there will be a summoner class in an interview. He has also stated that primals will be summoned through free companies, which I'm pretty sure is not the same.
So quit fishing, thanks.
Because we don't know EXACTLY how the system will work, there is only speculation.
For all we know, your Free Company unlocks a primal, but only Summoners within your free company can summon it.
Or it takes a full party of 8 players from your Free Company to summon it.
Or it takes a full party of 8 players, one of which has to be a summoner to summon it.
i want a summoner so bad, but this company summons i think this has nothing to do with the summoner job, im still waiting for my summoner job :P
I dunno if you guys missed this but it mite clear a few things up: (Thanks Reinheart for the translation!) https://docs.google.com/document/d/1...hl=en_US&pli=1
YoshiP - For post New FFXIV summoning system we have 2 ideas. One is pet type where you can summon monsters or spirits, and for calling out banshin/primal we are thinking of something else. To actually call summon 1 player community can have the right/key to hold and and in 2 weeks having everyone charge their summoning gauge and once summoning it goes back to nature. Summoning with a MMO feel.
GameWatch - Whats your idea on what type of situation can you summon primals?
YoshiP - I think it’s OK to call whenever you like. When you can’t kill the boss in a free company using it as a final card asking “Ifrit beat the crap out of it” or in PvP area taking those heavy (hardcore) players always beating everyone up “Please take them down with one shot”.
It’s OK to go overboard. However you can only use it once and you don’t know when you can kill the next Ifrit and it doesn’t mean that card will come to you next time. When Ifrit gets summoned somewhere it will change the weather of all zones and you can tell someone summoned Ifrit. I think that be FF like MMORPG. It’s just general talk but we have the structure laid out and system is pretty much set so once the server is made we just need to build it.
GameWatch - Job Summoner where you can summon spirits will also be implemented?
YoshiP - We will eventually implement. Pet users are star in MMORPG class. For example carbuncle is a summon a summner can call however “Ifrit” or “Garuda” or “Leviathan” or “Odin” are gods.
GameWatch - At what point is there a line to decide which is which?
YoshiP - That’s hard questions since it depends on feeling (laugh) generally something you can call yourself is summon, and those which you can’t call on own are gods.
GameWatch - How about Shiva or Ramu?
YoshiP - Those two are also planned as gods. Mainly 4 elements and Light/Dark are confirmed gods.
GameWatch - You said calling a monster but can you not taim a monster?
YoshiP - Having pets you can call using MP an those monsters in the area which you can taim; we are preparing both. The design is there so now it’s to work on them, but before that there isn’t much spell users and there isn’t enough cloud control spell so first release jobs then will follow up afterwards.
The idea of this is pretty epic. Being across the zone when all of a sudden the sky turns red and embers are leaping all around? /wood
Also, it sounds like they mean to summon primals from a key item, obtained from the primal fight, at a limit of one being held at a time, Trump Card style.
So, Primal summoning is done by using a rare drop that you get off of the Primals?
This is what I've taken from reading the interviews:
There will be two types of summonings in FFXIV. The first one will be exclusive to free companies. These are the one where you can call on the Primals or the "Gods of Eorzea". You may only call on the primal you have beaten as a company. Once you beat it you get a single summoning token. Once you use that summoning token in a "one shot overkill" kind of move, you lose that summoning token. You'll have to beat the Primal again to get another one. I'm lead to believe that the summoning allowances are rare.
The second kind of summon are for the class Summoners. Summoners cannot summon Primals. Instead they summon the lesser spirits of Eorzea, something along the lines of Carbuncle. For this, I don't know whether it will be implemented as a pet or a one spell casting type of deal.
charging for summon....erm...does it the red bar on the new screenshot?? we can only speculate...
OKa... thats it, I'm totally being Summoner now! ( even though I was to being with. BUT that right there is just pure Epicness!Quote:

It seems like there will be 2 different types of summons. One where you and your company can summon a primal for a one time use with a long cooldown, and then the actual summoner class who's summons are pets. The bolded makes it sound a lot like FFXI style summoner, where your avatars learned new abilities as you leveled up.
My take on the matter is that Primals are GODS and summons are just lesser creatures.
1)It seems as if the Gods(Ifrit, Ramuh, Garuda, Levi, and Shiva) will need a free comapany to call upon them for a super attack and while being very damaging doesn't grant a 100% success rate.
2) There will be a summon class/job but it will be summoning the lesser ones

Hells to the f'ing yes. I'm always SMN and this game will be no different.
From the GameWatch interview:
Quote:
Quote:
For after 2.0, we have an idea for two summoning systems. We are thinking of the calling of so-called pets and monsters completely differently from summoning primals themselves. In the case of calling primals themselves, we want to do an "MMO-like" summoning where one player community on a world server will hold rights, and for two weeks everyone will build a summoning gauge, then call the primal out for a single attack, at which time they will return to the wild.
Quote:
Quote:
Ed.: Will you be adding the Summoner job that can call spirits?
Yoshida: We will at some time. Pet users are kind of like star players in an MMORPG. As an example, "Carbuncle" is a summoned beast* summoners can summon. However, "Ifrit," "Leviathan," and "Odin" are instead primals*.
Quote:
編: どのあたりに線引きがあるのですか?
吉田氏: 感覚論なので難しいですね(笑)。単純に個人が術式で呼び出せてもおかしくないものが召喚獣で、そうでないものが蛮神です。
It's pretty clear they do not plan for individuals to summon primals, which at this point in time includes Ifrit, Garuda, Leviathan, Titan, Odin, and probably whatever weird moogle thing. Another question in the same interview states Ramuh and Shiva will also be primals, and thus not available for a single summoner to call.Quote:
Ed.: Where exactly is the delineation here?
Yoshida: That's a hard question because it's by feeling (laughs). Basically, something it wouldn't be strange for an individual to call with their own power is a summoned beast, while the rest are primals.
* I thought I'd take this opportunity to try and clear something up regarding translations. In every single Final Fantasy game in Japanese summons are called by the same name - 召喚獣 (summoned beast). In the English versions different translators have used different terms such as summons, espers, eidolons, and aeons. So for those of us playing in English it seems like "primal" is just another name for summons this time around, but that's not the case. Primals are called 蛮神 (savage god), and that is why you'll see Yoshida mention so many times that they're not just "summoned beasts" but "gods."
I have no objections to this idea. Differentiating the Primals as gods makes sense, from the sound of it you won't be able to summon them as pets. I'm guessing they may be available like the one-time attacks, or with the free company system.
So it seems there will be some familiar names, like Carbuncle, who are not Primals but are spirits of some sort. Those will be the pets, which is fine by me. I wonder which monsters and other spirits we'll be able to summon.
as i said to my friend this morning when i read they are coming.......
SHIZZAM!
of course a slight bummer with those main summons, but i like how they are getting something special. Their are plenty of other ones to use.
thats a little bit weird if i can say so... so you need a group of players (a free company which has the right to summon the typic primal) to summon for example ifrit to launch a powerful attack.
like the Amal'jaa are summoning ifrit together in this vid:
Amal'jaa summoning Ifrit
So lets imagine that this group of Amal'jaa would be a group of players, a free company, so thats how yoshida would like that system to work?
they want to stick to the storyline it seems (summons/primals, like ifrit, leviathan are gods)... well i miss my "real" final fantasy 11 summoner when reading these weird informations
its the first final fantasy i can imagine where it needs a group of players to call one summon
