PLD AoE Idea: Light Burn

Replace Enhanced Flash with Light Burn. Light Burn Adds a weak dot for 10 potency but can stack up to 4 times and lasts for a total of 15 seconds. Total at 4 stacks = 40 pot.

So why do this? Because it would address a lot of the problems and complaints with PLD. Right now the most desired type of skill for PLD is some kind of AoE damage, yet PLD should still retain some unique identity that makes it different from WAR and DRK. This idea would hold true to that.

Would this behave like other stacking effects, where adding a stack resets the timer? I'm guessing it would, since it would take a reworking of how it handles effects like that otherwise.
If it does, then that means the optimal rotation would be to use Flash right as the stacks are about to fall off, effectively giving you a 160-200 AOE potency attack (depending on timing since you'd have to clip the duration) every 15 seconds. That's a bit stronger than Circle of Scorn but costs a GCD and requires you to work at it to make it optimal. Seems... decently balanced, actually.

I don't think this would really alleviate plds aoe tanking weakness, yes it helps but 10 potency with a ramp up? It has nothing on Drks who have 100 aoe potency ability with salted earth 75 potency ~21 seconds, also added in with Dark Passenger AND has a blind, then you have wars with overpower for 120 potency with full stacks with steel cyclone for 200 potency + vengeance with blood bath as well.

I know it's been beaten with a dead horse but paladins do need tweaking in the AoE department a recent thread talked about an ability from 1.0 (War Drum) that does AoE dmg with huge threat gains that would be something that should be added as it works. Paladin lacks because it only has 2 aoe abilities whereas Drks and warriors have multiple with added dmg that they bring.

Edit: Forgot to add in Abyssal Drain that is 120 potency + heals you for 100% of the dmg dealt which adds even more emnity with the healing threat.

Actually it would because Flash does absolutely no damage and I would rather have this than some potency pasted onto flash or any other PLD skill. I just really want this mechanic for PLDs since it would make it more interesting so if the potency bothers you then turn it up to 20 per stack even though I think that's too much given how much enmity flash generates in the first place.

Also I was under the impression tank self heals outside of curative magic generate zero healing enmity?

The goal behind this idea is to not really change the way PLDs AoE tank while increasing their dmg and threat a bit until 4.0.

My bad derp forgot it's 20 emnity for activating a skill no extra threat for self healing lol, 40 potency though it would be good for main tanking as you main tank you keep the debuff going. However 40 potency isn't really much compared to all the other options the other tanks get plds would still get steam rolled in the AoE threat department. The flash DoT would help but it's still not enough compared to the other tanks. 20 potency might work a bit more but you know how SE is with their balancing, I like your idea as I used to be a pld tank and I was always mad about their AoE.

Yes but this trait would be AoE and flashes after the 5th would only reset the timer on the stacks.

Exactly, it'd be like WoWs Seal of Vengeance stacking but after 5 Flashes the 6th one would reset it it'd be a great trait to have.

Every time I see these threads, I just question: Why did Paladin not get Shock or Vengeance? Regardless of its name, it's highly iconic and easily the single most powerful ability in a Paladin's repertoire throughout the series, so to see it missing is... strange.

I'd rather see Flash extend the duration of the CoS DoT by 6/3 seconds, and spread the GB DoT to two additional enemies in the vicinity. If you couple that with a general enmity boost, and roll block before Crit, you'd solve a lot of PLD problems:

• Enmity - by boosting damage output as well as boosting enmity by itself, you'd see PLD suddenly able to compete with the other tanks for hate generation. They'd need to make this a level 51 talent, so as to not skew the balance of 2.0-2.5 content.
• DPS - spreading DoTs and extending CoS will automatically boost our damage output, especially against multiple enemies (which is where PLD's passive mitigation mechanics excel). It wouldn't put us on a level with DRK or WAR for ST MT DPS, but we'd be a good bit closer.
• TP Management - to maximize DPS, PLDs would need to be hitting Flash more frequently. If it's still on the GCD, then we will suddenly stop running out of TP, because we won't be spending as much of it, and would be interrupting our TP spending to spend MP on Flash, which would then allow 60 extra TP to regenerate.

FFXIV Paladins aren't WoW Paladins, neither in lore nor in mechanics, so I don't think something like the Paladin seals would fit here.

Because Vengeance is more iconic for Warrior so they gave it to Warrior.

As for the idea. It sounds cool in theory. But honestly I'd rather see Paladin have a physical AoE and not a magical one.

They gave the name to Warrior. The ability "Vengeance" in FFXIV is... not Vengeance, it's some weak counter-attack cooldown that lacks the incredible impact of Shock and Vengeance. Also, why would you want a physical AoE? Circle of Scorn, Flash, Rage of Halone, Royal Authority, all of these have magical elements. Meanwhile Clemancy and Divine Veil are outright holy healing magic. I'd say Paladin deserves some more blatant magic.

one of my biggest complaints with pld is that every time you spend a gcd generating aoe aggro you are doing 0 dps. I'd love a minor dot effect, but I think the stacking mechanic would overly incentivize spamming.

another possibility that would achieve a similar solution in a way thats different from war and drk's flat potency aoes would be appending a vuln up or physical vuln up effect to flash itself or just to the blind status ailment.
