FFA or Free For All PVP Zone where it's just for fun. Like even if you wanted to face your friend in some roleplay. There could be two sections, single combat and multi-combat. Meaning in single you won't have to worry about other people interrupting and killing your fun or on the other hand your enemy or you getting help from others.
I was REALLY hoping you would incorperate gambling into the Gold Saucer but it honestly feels like you played it safe and idk maybe to thwart gil sellers cus it could be another way of trading gil, which is bumming cus it sucks how much gil sellers effect our game sometimes when you think like that.
I don't even think you need to go as far as closing one server to open world PVP. You could have two versions and isolate these battlegrounds somewhere on the server. Like one could be safe FFA where you don't lose anything except maybe PVP rank and the other dangerous zone where you'd lose tradable items like potions and whatnot and maybe gear but the problem there is spiritbonding so probably not.
And make em big, don't confide us in small spaces cus Black Mages will wreck us if we're too close in multi-combat and oh god i don't wanna get hit by 10k+ crits and whatnot.
I don't know SE. I really just wish we had more content that could keep us playing. The Gold Saucer is great and I don't deny TT is pretty good and LoV is a step in the right direction as far as this topic goes but other than that all thats there is.achievements, glamour, minions and mounts.
I recall one of the interviews Yoshi-P was in and he said depending on the popularity of frontlines, they would then consider the idea of a PVP server. And that sounds great and all and I'm sure SE would love to see the Cash flow from every other dedicated PVP player switching servers but honestly a closed FFA PVP minigame on every server seems a lot easier imo.
But I can't expect something like this to come anytime soon or fast, just like we can't hope to get more jobs faster than we already are. MMO's take time, and it sucks.

The devs can't make true gambling games due to laws in certain countries forbidding gambling in video games.
As for open area PvP, unless they give good rewards, no one will do it. You can claim "for funsies" all you want, but we seen how quickly games like Triple Triad and the chocobo racing games died off due to lack of interest. -

But as far as PVP, they could toss in wolf marks too or implement whatever they would in a open world PVP server just in a more enclosed space. But you're right rewards do help, but I'm sure there are PVPers out there that would jump into this. -

As far as I remember, some countries forbid gambling in video games because they see videogames as a thing kids can play and don't want them to get into gambling, which is why some of the mini games in the Pokemon series were either altered or removed in certain regions.

It could be something like brawler's guild in WoW. Its a spectable arena where you watch a player fight against a PvE enemy with unique mechanics. It's hilarious at times to see them wipe. Open PvP maps are a nice concept they could utilize, maybe with forts (mini sieges) that each GC faction could get that will unlock quests or other things for the winning side. They could even add hero support if a faction is losing all the time, maybe the faction's general can come and help with the battles and other things like that to keep it balanced.
They should definetely add a Duel Request mode, so you can PvP anywhere with friends etc. They shouldn't be afraid to add PvP in the main game. -

I play because its a PvE game, not revolved around PvP. Sure it may be optional but when we start getting into PvP contested zones that is when I start to lose interest. If I am simply questing and have to worry about a Ninja sneaking up on me or a blackmage silently preping his skills to blast me, I will pass.

They did say in a recent interview that if there's enough of a demand they would consider creating a PvP server to test the waters. They believe quite a few English players want that sort of thing and they're not exactly wrong, but it's not the most popular concept in Japan. It sure would spice up FFXIV though, and bring excitement to the open world.

The issue is if they DO make PVP severs, it could fracture many communities due to people being split on whether or not they want to move to the servers or spend time raising alts on said servers.
