So, as per Lodestone, the game will require more storage. I'm only talking about PC, because if you're not on PC, lolconsole. Anyways, serious talk here. 10 gigs for a patch is HUGE! Does anyone have any actual information on what it could be?

10Gb isn't much in todays games IMO, 2+ years ago, I would have guessed at HQ textures for a better looking world, but today, eek it's probably not enough tbh.
3.2 is coming in February? so Events? new dungeons, new trial? New Alexander Midas raids, so it's most probably those things tbh, or some of them.
the dungeon, alexander and such will never ask 10 gb exept if they have high resolution cut scene uncompressed.... that weird... do we will finally get the HD texture?
If they're adding 4k support in 3.2, there should also be HQ textures.. Not that much point doing 4k support with the current textures really.
Although.. That wouldn't really explain the increase for consoles, since those aren't likely to get higher resolution textures.
The following is an announcement for those currently playing only FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn. This announcement does not affect users playing FINAL FANTASY XIV: Heavensward or the all-in-one FINAL FANTASY XIV Online. The previously announced disk space required for FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will increase on all platforms with the release of Patch 3.2 currently scheduled for release in February 2016. This is due to the fact that the development team has added a substantial amount of new content to FINAL FANTASY XIV since the launch of FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn.
Reading is hard.
This isn't because of the patch. The patch isn't going to be 10 GB. It's only a change for ARR's requirements and has nothing to do with 3.X content.
whats really interesting is the extra disc space is only required if your still on ARR it sounds like, if your playing HW you won't need the extra space.
so that would imply that this 10GB doesn't actually contain anything available in 3.2 HW, only base ARR stuff.
It's not actually 10GB of anything. It's just the amount extra that they added from 2.0 to 2.55. Please read.
The only thing that's changing is what's on the package where it says required disk space.
They aren't adding anything.... it's just an increase to the system requirements.
IE if someone downloaded ARR today it's much bigger than it was at release, so they have to reflect that in the sys req.
its just worded badly
what people are saying is
you buy ARR and it says on the box or w/e, requires 20GB HDD space
however all the patch data since 2.0 up to 3.2 has added around 10GB
so now when you buy ARR it will say, requires 30GB, to account for the patch data onto of the base game data
i believe HW already says it requires about 30GB which is why it doesn't "affect" HW
at least thats what I'm assuming people are trying to explain
Are you all not reading the ENTIRE comment on lodestone? Let me copy paste the message in it's entirety, not just what you all seem to be nit picking.

The new disk space requirement will differ on each platform. Please check the updated disk space requirements outlined below and ensure your console or computer has adequate storage space. If your console or computer does not have enough storage space available, you will be unable to launch FINAL FANTASY XIV, so please ensure your console or computer has adequate storage space before the release of Patch 3.2 currently scheduled for release in February 2016.

I have taken the liberty to bold and underline the reason I have made this thread, and wanted to have a fun little chat about guessing what they could be adding that would require such an extensive increase in the amount of data required before everyone else hijacked the thread and turned it into a pissing contest.
Please explain how and why they would add 10GB of "NEW" data only for ARR and not HW.
besides, what you've highlighted is what we've tried to explain; they are making it so you require the content patches from 2.0 up to 3.2 installed on the disk to be able to launch it, which adds 10gb to the disk requirements.
they're literally just updating the information about the amount of space required to launch and play the game in its current version over how much was required when the game was just ARR
If they were "just updating the disk requirements" as you stated, then you would be able to play later just like you are now. They HAVE to be adding SOMETHING that justifies your inability to load the game up if you don't have the required disk space when patch 3.2 hits, and this thread was a fun little guessing game you all butchered.
Would be really nice if they did add a HD dlc for free, which ups the textures and poly count on models. I mean come on WoW just did their models and upped the poly count why cant FF we are ditching the Ps3 so it makes sense to allow an option to up the looks.
So much hate coming from OP.
The way I understand it, if you only have ARR, the 3.2 patch will require you to download all the additional data that was previously held back from you during patch updates. There could be various reasons, but I would guess that there are new dependencies in the ARR content that requires certain HW files even if you did not purchase HW. This in turn, would require them to increase the minimum required space for ARR only installs. Probably has something to do with them changing how materia melds will work since that will affect even players that don't have HW, and the myriad of other changes that will also affect pre-HW players.
No they do not -have- to be doing anything that justifies that.
If someone is fresh and new to ARR, having just got it from Humble Bundle SE or some other thing, they would just see the 20GB min requirement. 2.0-2.55 added quite a bit and the patches through 3.2 still "add content" for ARR (minions etc) that are not HW/expansion only. They need to update the requirements so someone doesn't piss their pants when they see they can't play their game when they only saw a 20GB req but all of the updates from base ARR to now will mean that the space needs to be more than 20GB in total. They have to write the part about not being able to play because that's a real thing. If you don't have the space needed you can't play.
This guy gets it. They are adding the HW info to people who don't have it because of not getting the expansion. 10GB of data that, if you already have HW, you already have is going to be added to the people who do not have it. When HW released, anyone who did not upgrade got a minimal patch (adding stuff like gear models/textures and the Au'Ra models and textures) and that's pretty much it. Now they are dumping the rest of that data into the non-HW players laps. That is what is inside that 10GB download that non-HW people will be getting.

The only person I was intentionally being rude to was the initial person being rude to me, Thecurl. If anyone else is offended by my comments, then I apologize.
This actually makes a lot of sense, except for the fact that SE claims you will be unable to launch FF14. It's not explained very well, and I read it as even if you're playing HW now, let's say on the ps3, you need to be able to download MORE content come patch 3.2 or you'll be unable to play the game. Again, in all honesty, I just wanted this to be a thread where we guessed/hoped for something that was game changing and instead turned into a who has a bigger e-pen instead.
And something that also has me wondering about something going on behind the scenes is why wait until patch 3.2?
Keep in mind that there are a few things being added to ARR that isn't HW exclusive, like the beginner's hall and mentor system. Coupled that with all the patch updates between 2.0 to 2.55, it's bound to be a pretty big download.
You're all wrong. If anyone would bother to check their files, you'd see that the game currently takes up about 20.3GB of space on PC, so they are, in fact, adding something in this update. I'm not sure if it's actually 10GB worth of content, or just 'reserving' the extra space for future updates, but it is, in fact, space that the game was not previously using.
It's funny how angry and insulting people will get over something that takes literally twenty seconds to fact-check...

Basically, the game has reached the maximum required space advertised. They now need to increase it just to cover their asses, that's all. It is no indication whether patch 3.2 will be 10gb or not. What is clear is that patch 3.2 will make the game size go over the previous advertised 20gb. Hence, you won't be able to play the game anymore if you only set aside 20gb for the game.
Anyway, this forum sure is full of angry and reactive people.
Had to translate and common sense this announcement. Basically they are updating the requirements to the current space requirements as opposed to launch. Of course the game won't run if you don't have the GBs worth of patches installed. As for 3.2, I assume HD textures in which case go Yoshi-P! But yeah, the only issue here is lack of clarification in the announcement. As for dumping HW onto your machine (ala DragonFlyy), I would assume it would have to do with some possible compatibility snafus in 3.2 or something like that.
Shouldn't things like HD textures be optional, so as not to waste space for those of us who can't use them?
