SE did not want to advantage the more experienced people for the relic grind. Since those who have been hard at it since 3.1 will practically be swimming in Centurios since all their armor/acc are 210 already. I think if they were to include centurios, they should also include old Primal tokens all the way up to Ravex.
I have 3 level 60 battle classes and I hardly used centurio to do upgrades, I got the pink gear from diadem, also there is void ark dropping a weekly item to get upgrade gear. most people will use it on relic not twines even if they have a 200 set, if they had that option of course.
Seems to me it would be nice if they added Allied Seals to the HW hunts. I know lots prefer the old school hunts because of relic. Personally I have too many roles leveled so I use my centurio's for upgrades. I would love it the HW hunts dropped both.
Well after hunting sobmuch for my relic, I have enough clan logs to upgrade a couple eso when they finally release gobdip.
Regardless of whether or not players that have been playing since the 3.1 patch may have a gear advantage while people now may theoretically have to choose between eso upgrades and relic mats, one can't simply ignore the idea that pre-HW hunts are now seen as much more valuable than post-HW. And that is incredibly backwards.
Although if the former is a potential issue, this could be solved by making post-HW hunts drop allied seals too.
Because they needed to keep 2.0 more relevant than 3.0 hunts for some reason.
Or they save up 3.0 hunt for another relic step.
saving 1000 seals is not much and we aren't talking about next step. this is what bugs me about these forums.... responses that try desperately hard to make do with what isn't there! centurio seals are a waste of time to most players. I've actually spent mine on teleport tokens now, yes you heard me right.. teleport tokens. I got all the other items needed and I don't plan on keeping more than 20 logs I don't need. Atleast I will get to the 2.0 hunts for free... but still I reckon I will end up capping before I used those tokens since 500 centurio is 99 free teleports. Some other players mentioned how 2.0 drops both but 3.0 drops only one, I think they have a valid point that 3.0 should drop both too.
I want to use esos too...been capped for weeks
The main reason I believe for Centurio not having the items is because of the amount of law and poetics you get from 3.0 hunts compared to 2.0 ones, which can be used for them
The Law and Poetics are actually pretty comparable between the two. HW A Rank Hunt Marks only give 10 Law, just like ARR ones do. I think HW Marks give the same Poetics, too, though I'm not positive.
My guess is that the reason is actually probably due to future steps: I'd imagine we'll see Centurio Seals work for the Anima in some patch where Hunts aren't otherwise in demand (probably 3.25 or whatever subpatch of 3.4 has an Anima quest stage).
The amount of law and poetic rewarded in 3.x hunts is the same as 2.x hunts. The only difference is that 3.x hunts reward more centurio seals than 2.x hunts, while the latter rewards allied seals along with centurio seals (half of what 3.x of the same rank would have given). All things considered though, 2.x is indefinitely better if we're talking exclusively the anima steps, and isn't too far behind the centurio seal gains either during the launch of 3.x for doman upgrades.
Those two things aren't necessarily connected--Anima and Zodiac aren't related to one another except superficially, and the developers still seem to have interest in creating incentives for older content, so they used Allied Seals again. What holding back Centurio Seals does is allow them to later create more interest for Hunts again without using the exact same thing (groups would naturally focus on HW hunts over ARR ones if that were the case).
Maybe it's not a good reason. But it seems to be what they're going to do, if they use Centurio at all.
I'm not saying it. I'm saying what the developers seem to be aiming for. They've been using the weapon questlines to reinvigorate older content ever since they introduced the Zodiac Weapon saga in 2.1, and so far they've shown no signs of changing that philosophy, and until they say otherwise, it is safe to assume that they will continue to do so.
And truth be told, keeping people interested in older content is good for the game: it's one of the only ways the game can continue to support newer players, who missed out on everything in ARR when it was current, and newer players are absolutely and utterly necessary for the game to survive. I may not always agree with how they execute that goal (or with the content they choose to emphasize with a particular quest step), but the overarching goal is rather important for the long-term health of the game.
Outside of keeping people interested in older content, it is also within the team's best interest to use older content where they can because of resources. They can't magically make their team bigger, unfortunately, so dipping into the old stuff allows them to keep the game going in a way they probably couldn't otherwise.
No thanks! those people that plays 24hours a day would have a very huge advantage! <,<
Thats like no weekly tome limit!
People would play 24/7 and says after few days "nothing to do.../quits"
In order to repopulate the old-world areas. The HW areas don't need any such help because they already implemented the fate-grinding side of the relic quest and have relevant things to do there anyways.
Also, I don't think SE wants people to choose between upgrading their eso gear or grinding their relic. IIRC its been maybe a 7-8 weeks since the launch of 3.1? For the people who don't do Savage, they'd still need eso upgrade items even with doing VA weekly.
I know I would be pretty pissed off if a static member was holding off on upgrading their eso gear because they were spending their seals on relic tokens. I know people who were legitimately salty that people bought the wyvern horn instead of a twine early on.
I'd still disagree with the means to do so. Hunts and especially beast tribes do nothing to accomplish "repopulating" the old world, espesically in relation to new players/leafers. Most you'll get is confusion from the sudden spam of "inv pls". And except for first step (which honestly sohuldn't have been so delayed for a 3.15 release either), none of the anima steps necessarily require you to be in 3.x areas, or at the very least was a very (and I mean 2 weeks) temporary bandaid on my server. that it's gotten back to normal with 1, half filled FATE party for each for two to three different regions.
honestly, they need to stop making 2.x hunts as the fast(est) gearing method for end game. It's been done to death in 2.x and they still insist on it being the case months later in the next expansion cycle.
There is no real need to repopulate old-areas.
Relics were good to repopulate old-content, but content that new people need to do to progress. For the Anima, this is a good thing with Snowcloak and Keeper of the Lake, as new players can have problems finding people to help them.
Hunts are totally different. With the new level cap, new players don't care about 2.x hunts, as they only offer "weak" gear.
It would have also been better to prevent people from undersizing lvl50 dungeson (By requiring a dropped item to progress) or adding token to lvl50 trials instead of daily quest, so that you'd do basically every lvl 50 MSQ primal to build your anima.
And, of course, allow people to buy items with Wolf Marks to increase PvP population.
Why are people even saying that 2.0 hunts have been implemented in 3.0 relic to get people interested in older content to assist new players? I don't think new players actually use 2.0 hunts to upgrade 50 items.... they are more likely to just carry on levelling instead of going i120 to i130... believe me I see i120 people in the first few heavensward dungeons. The only thing 2.0 hunts are doing right now is new relic. It would harm absolutely nobody have have allied seals drop from 3.0 hunts or unidentified items purchased for centurio seals. 3.0 hunts can still be used in future stages of relic, people will stop complaining about the grind.... with the way gear is right now... 210 from diadem, 210 from alex..... weekly upgrade item from Void Ark.. I can't think of any players who actually would do 3.0 hunts if it were not for law or poetics. I just use the Centurio seals to get free teleport tickets now and I am sure a lot of players are doing the same, is that what SE really wanted for 3.0 hunts? a means to save a bit of gill on teleporting.
2.0 has always been a way to gear up toward end game, not that I nessescarly agree with that design. It doesn't only give weak, old gear.
I sincerely hope that SE doesn't consider hunt zergs "repopulation" of areas. They show up out of thin air, concentrate on one tiny area, and then are gone as quickly as they showed up. They don't stick around helping newbies do anything, if newbies aren't in the right place and the right time they won't know anything is even happening besides seeing the Invite spam in chat.
Continuing to bring people back to 2.0 areas by using hunts is pointless because it doesn't truly bring them back.
I would be for this change, but I think they'd need to mix up the reward system. Currently, 2.x hunts give Cent seals as well as Allied. If they did this, I'd suggest making:
2.x Hunts give 40 allied seals, 40 poetics
3.x Hunts give 40 Centurio Seals, 40 law
Then have Allied seals be purchasable for Bone/Shell
Then have Centurio seals be purchasable for Ore/Seeds
raise cap on Centurio seals to 2k, and have the cost be 1k (raise cap so you don't waste seals to hit 1k for buy)
While we're at it can we turn in unstained mark logs for unidentifiable items too? They're completely worthless to me and a lot of players...
To be blunt, the fact that we don't use expansion seals to upgrade an expansion relic is mind-boggling on its own. The large bulk of 3.15's relic seems to just be a massive re-trek through ARR content and areas that makes me question why this was delayed in the first place, but that's for another time.
I don't bother with ARR hunts since a large majority of the A ranks can be soloed let alone an entire group taking them on, they die in seconds. After the dust has cleared, the areas are back to being ghost towns until the next A or S spawns. More options would be nice, but HW hunts are more of the same thing, just tankier.
This might only be server specific problems. On my server, just as many people gather for HW A/S ranks as there are for ARR A/S rank mobs. The only difference being that if 2 A ranks are found at the same time, people prioritize going after ARR A rank before going to HW A rank. Either way, both have large groups of players going after them for tomes/seals.
I love it when very apparent hunt leeches comment on their limited experience with it. What they don't see are the 60s searching for said A ranks or spawning the S ranks that they just conveniently teleport to and spam LFP for.
So, for what is sometimes more than an hour, you have 60s roaming the zone constantly. What's important is not necessarily that they help the newbies. What's important is the mystique. As a sprout, when you see a geared 60 with cool glamour and a rare mount ride by, it becomes something to aspire towards. When you see a gigantic train of multiple 60s storm a zone, it makes you curious and helps foster interest. It's certainly better than completely dead zones that are left to rot with nothing more than a handful of lowbies.
I think this is a large part of the reasoning for the developers too, for what it's worth. If new players come into the game and the leveling zones are always empty, even on populated servers, it can give them the false impression that no one's really playing the game. WoW's had this problem for a long time (I'm not sure if they've done anything to address it in the past couple years or not, though). SE has always generally been a fan of player cooperation, interaction and just..."presence" in such a way that makes the world feel a bit more active.
Some players obviously don't appreciate that effort, but there are those among us that do.
Or maybe me and my small FC are the ones spawning said S ranks in the first place. To be quite honest, even with linkshell calls you hardly ever see more than 15 people on my servers gathering for 2.0 hunts, and very much less so now that people have finished their anima. So maybe you should actually understand that again, not all servers have the same circumstances instead of calling people out on being leeches.
Honestly it doesn't sound like its a huge area of concern when most of the content can be soloed, at least not to the point that they have to encourage players to revisit the old world in such a manner. And even then, WoW doesn't necessarily have this problem with realm phasing even in leveling areas.
Whether or not that it was their intention is unclear, so honestly I can't really appreciate something that isn't even intended. Effort can only go so far especially in the current state of the game.
