I doubt there will ever be a monster that's on a timer as long as the kings in FFXI. And I doubt there will ever be a monster that takes as long to fight as PW and AV originally did. The trend of FFXIV is going toward casual access for everybody, and content like the mobs you mentioned pretty much fly in the face of that.
I'm all for them, but I don't think they'll ever happen. They did show Behemoth in the new concept art the other day, but I doubt he'll be on a long spawn timer.
seriously this game needs that
That wasn't fun, imho, it was a masochistic addiction.
Once a day, you'd stand in a field for 3 hours to have a 1-in-30~50 shot at claiming a 5% drop chance that you'd have a one in eighteen chance of being given. For some, multiple times a day for different mobs. For years.
Never again. F**k that. /shudder
I'm going to have to agree but many others will not. I loved the HNM scene and really hope they implement some that are on long timers minus the windows with more of a fixed timer like 21hr auto pop. I'm prepared to be disappointed because i don't see open world HNM's becoming a big part of end game, oh i wish they were.
I'm okay with distantly-spaced pops, to a point. The spawn conditions should be predictable and accessible, not that "MAYBE POPS for 30 seconds every 30 minutes for 3 hours exactly 24 hours after it was last defeated" BS. It was entirely focused at creating obsessive habits and paranoia at missing the one day it mattered - it was a gambling addiction and, frankly, kind of insulting to people that didn't play the game all day every day.
fu'in epic... fu'in epic. when this come out i plan on playing it until without food and water until i vanish.
Got my vote
Even though I will not par take in this due to my life has changed, I will say 14 do very much need a form of this. It was fun in 11. Craft between windows anyone?
FFXI Kings/HNM's are flawed in that it took boting to get them. If they made region based servers to cut the lag difference and made the game code solid against bots then fine put them back in. If not then no this game doesn't need the cheat fest that was FFXI's Kings/HNMs.
I've read the OP, and I've come to this conclusion. Denied!
We can have tough challenging battles, but I can assure you it is not fun standing around for hours, or waiting for days until a single monster pops.
Wandering Odin will give us that....perhaps...hopefully..
My 1 gil is worth more than your 1 gil.
I take it you have NOT even played FFXI in some time. Here is the link to the implemented changes to those ground kings: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxi/th...rious-Monsters
In case you do not want to open a new tab here is the data from it: [dev1009] New Trigger Conditions for Notorious Monsters
[dev1009] New Trigger Conditions for Notorious Monsters
Trigger conditions for following notorious monsters will be adjusted to spawn by trading specific items to the “???” in the respective area.
Fafnir / Nidhogg: Dragon’s Aery
Behemoth / King Behemoth: Behemoth’s Dominion
Adamantoise / Aspidochelone: Valley of Sorrows
- The ”???” will respawn a minute after the battle is over.
- The NM will despawn if unclaimed for 90 seconds at the spawned location.
- The feature wherein the level of these monsters will increase after battling them for a period of time will remain unchanged.
How to obtain the trigger items:
Fafnir: Treasure from “Early Bird Catches the Wyrm”
Behemoth: Treasure from “Horns of War”
Adamantoise: Treasure from “The Hills are Alive”
* At least one of these items will be dropped in every battle.
Nidhogg: Treasure dropped by Fafnir
King Behemoth: Treasure dropped by Behemoth
Aspidochelone: Treasure dropped by Adamantoise
The treasures dropped by the following notorious monsters will be adjusted as follows:
Fafnir : Wyrm Beard removed
Nidhogg : Drop rate of Wyrm Beard decreased
Behemoth : Behemoth Tongue removed
King Behemoth : Drop rate of Behemoth Tongue decreased
Adamantoise : Adamantoise Egg removed
Aspidochelone : Drop rate of Adamantoise Egg decreased
That is right! They realized what a horrid idea it was when originally put into the game. So, they changed it to something much more tolerable.
Note: /rant I am tired of seeing "...make it like FFXI... & I quit when ToA was added." Get over yourself then, the game changed significantly since then. If you stopped at that point then there is NO point for you to use it as an argument. It's like arguing that you want the web to go back to how it was when the internet was first implemented. Change happens, learn to move on already. (yes I know the OP didn't quit at that time, based off his sig. just switch 'ToA' with whatever time frame that they did quit. or quit doing HNM's since they do not seem to know the current conditions). /rant
You are not very bright are you? Nobody cares about your new fisher price HNM pops. OP clearly stated the system anybody who actually played FFXI when it was relevant. Post your cute little /rant tags all you want. OP made their point people returned with the point the system was broken and should not be used in FFXIV.
Thanks for trying to insult me. But no, I hate to disappoint you but I am 'bright'. I'll assume you were referring to my level of intelligence with that word choice; as I am not radiant or reflecting light.
Lets see. For you next line about my 'new fisher price HNM pops'. I had no idea I actually had owner ship in something you would allude to as being coded/rule changed to befit only a baby/young child. I will not make that claim, I know I owned nothing having to do with a games rule set. Well to be honest this sentence you wrote and your last sentence tie together pretty well. I is explain you what think process I has, I try 'fisher price' for U so you canz /follow logic.
I understand very well that the OP made a point, it is their right to do so on a forum discussion board. I understand that people returned with their own equal allowed point(s). Now, IF you'll reread my 'cute little /rant tags' (so glad you caught me there, as that was the intent of it), I apologize for that I mean for you to read between those tags, you will find that my point was the same as the other people. GASP! I am sorry if I opened some old wounds for you with my reference to the time frame in which you seem to thing the game of FFXI is no longer relevant. Mmm 'relevant' how I do enjoy that word. Which puts us right back on track of finishing those words I sprinkled inside my /rant tags. The game or games of any other name do become irrelevant to most people at different times; that was why I said/implied to get over it and live with the change. Funny thing is, even FFXI still held relevance for many people even after this 'fisher price HNM' system was implemented.
Now, if you would like some further readings to held educate yourself I would suggest you read the works of Einstein. He does such a wonderful job of explaining that funny little word 'relevance'. If you got a good grasp of all of that, I would tell you to go check out Brian Greene's books. He's got 4 total. I read 3 so far and they expound upon the ideas of Einstein and many many other physicist. Truly great reads.
Heck, I would even suggest to you to go back to college and get a couple of degrees. I did myself. Now, I deplore the way most teaching is done; but that is another subject for another time. None the less, it was still an experience that managed to help me grasp some of the finer common sense areas of life.
I hope you are not too offended by some of my more sarcastic remarks. Haha, I know it's hard to tell if any of it was not sarcastic. But seriously, do have a good night. I know I will be dreaming of you, and what you may potentially look like.
xoxo~ Stellar Dissociative
I'm pretty flattered you took the time to make a reply like that for me. I should look for more of your posts to reply to, maybe I can get a small book out of them.
I'd rather have difficult, challenging fights, instead of simple fights where the only difficulty is in who can fire off their claim macro the fastest, or who has the best bot. I hate to mention the Aeria games, because they're a bunch of WoWclones, but they did do huge NMs in an interesting manner. Anyone could engage the monster, and depending on how well you did on it you'd get various amounts of loot. My ideal "HNM king" type fight would be something like that, something so massive, so difficult, that you're probably going to need multiple parties working together to defeat it, and with a loot system the prevents backstabbing. With any luck, Odin will turn out to be that way.
It sounds like Odin will kind of be this.
The more competitive the game gets; the more I will have incentive to ditch sleep, exams, talking to girls irl.
Give me anything, but never again nm with absurd pop conditions. And everyone know the biggest difficulty with fafnir was having the most performant bot
well in my OP i never said keep claim system . cuz if you really want to get to the grit of this game i can be in a pt with my mule go hit buffalo with my main and die and if another ls attacks it right after i die they can kill it and i get all the loot so in any way they will be flaws in every system
All im saying Linkshells are pointless in this type of system where we are playing Final Fantasy Tactic's Quest XIV
All i really want is to build Competition among the FFXIV community Bring life to the game . I dont know about you guys but i feel like there is no life to my server . And all there is other LS causing drama e.g. I can kill something faster then you can blah blah
World spawns, no thanks.
Camping Fafnir for 3 hours a day was not fun. Basically turned FFXI into a botters game where if you didn't bot then you got very little claims.
The game has instanced content on a low timer as well as open world NMs on a low timer. If it wants to remain balanced to both parties, hardcore and casual alike, then it would behoove yoshida to add in content that could not be spammed every 15 minutes. As long as there are options for both sides then everything will be AOK.
Game needs real NMs, the 5min spawns might have the ??? on them but they are no different then normal really.
I say add the 2-4 days spawns and add instance versions of them as well. So you have a choice you can camp them and be in direct competition or you can just do something like einherjar where you can do them with your ls only and avoid all competition and get the exact same things. Or you can do both and have 5xs as many opportunities but 4 of them you are going to have to get a lucky claim.
Add both make both groups happy, win win.
The Only reason Ifirt was soo hard to be honest is because no BR now with that said saying server 1st on Ifirt is like being the first to get lvl 99 in abyssea in 1 day , anyways back to ifirt being easy
ARC would have owned this fight before the nerf but we live in a world where no more shoot arrows from a far.
All those players that have posted have said things that are very true and some missed the point .
When i started Doing Kings and Sky etc etc not only thrived on the competition and not only that you had tight bonds with your LS mates and not this hop shell to shell to benefit one self .
Content geared towards solid 8 ppl static group is garbage and we need better content to be made for large scale , Yes i know there will be later in V2.0 but i dont want it to be instance i want to freedom not be restricted by instance circle etc etc
the system were you cant invite 2nd party to fight with you is pretty dumb and should be changed whats the point if anyone can attack your monster .
One last thing why o why did they make monster auto drop items to members /random < Can I have it?>
You should probably kill Ifrit(hyper) before you start talking about how "easy" it is and how archer would "destroy" it pre nerf. You are mistaked on too many levels it borders on ignorance.
First off, were the fight mechanics overly challenging? Nah - not by today's MMO standards. What took so many linkshells 5 days on were the animation locks contributed while trying to do steady DPS. Once you had the rhythm of the fight though it was easily overcome.
Secondly ARC is probably the worst class for Ifrit DUE to animation lock. LNC/MRD/PGL/GLA all can AA to gain TP while moving and not having to worry about animation lock. Everytime an ARC fires off a LS it gets locked. Coupled with the multi arrow buff nerf ARC is now on the lowest rung of the ladder for Ifrit. They no way could compare to LNC at this stage of the game - and I say that being a main ARC from Sept 2010.
Anyways - back on topic. Yes this game needs stretchable AS WELL AS challenging content and hopefully Odin will give that to us.
OP,
I played FFXI and camped HNM's for hours. I got some and lost too many to botters, but that is not the point here.
I agree there has to be some competition amongst LS's, and you will probably have that with PvP. I don't think we should camp it for 6 hours and not get claim. That is not fun.
SE needs to implement the same system they had in FFXI or something better. You will still have competition amongst players on who has the best gear, first kill, etc. The hardcore people will easily distance themselves from the casual ones in time.
Please no multi day spawns. Those suck.
I think a lot of the problems with the big HNMs in XI could be fixed by just making them spawn in random places, making them non-agressive, and not making the drops quite so valuable. That would end the botting issues, and personally, I think it would be pretty sweet to see something like Jormungand strolling by Black Brush.
PLEASE DEVS DONT DO THIS
Im all for having fights that are as difficult, or even more difficult.
Im all for having fights that are enormous and last a long time.
I couldnt be more against the free-roaming, long pop wait times lioke they used to be in XI.
If you wanna put HNMs in the game, do it like Ifrit or Batraal where they are instanced and repeatable and dont involve standing around for 72 hours HOPING you will get the chance to fight it. That system is terrible.
Dev team has been doing a great job so far, and I hope they keep up the good work =) Just please dont institute the open world waiting for 72 hours to hopefully claim a mob against pop competition, that system is AWFUL.
ITT: People who believe botting contests and RNG are "hardcore".
Hate FF11 style HNM spawns, I never wana see that in FFXIV.
Do that Yoshi-boy and I will leave :P
