Weather effects and our characters

Little suggestions

1. Snowflakes in our hair and clothes would be nice. (or just hair)

2. Droplets from our clothes and gear when wet (or just our hair again)

3. Monster gunk on our clothes like slimes or Morbol spit (....or just our hair :p )

Feel free to add other things that you'd like to see weather effects do from now on.

Ex: Electric weather in the Sea of Clouds makes our hair stand up a bit X)

Common answers: Server limitations, PS3 restrictions, memory usage, other things more important (other stuff similar). My answer, let the devs worry about that if your not one yourself -_-

I think it's more like the existing weather effects are just lighting and shading gimmicks to make us look damp and wet, and what you are suggesting is some kind of physics engine thing.

But yeah, gimme some kind of "I've been working" effect when you just crafted things. Sawdust, flour, scorch marks, etc.

Why just weather when we don't even have bloodstains yet?

We should be soaking in blood after our average dungeon run.

Character hair is modeled in chunks, rather than individual hair strands. Believe it or not, hair strands are pretty computationally expensive, so they won't be seen in an MMORPG for at least another few years.

Not going to lie this sounds like you only want people who agree with you to post. Going to be a pretty one sided discussion then.

I have to agree with one of your common answers. There are far more important stuff needing changed or added into the game before this.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't say no to this addition but logically it has to be way down the list of stuff to add/change.

So, in a game where one of the major elements is to go around the world slaughtering critters of all sorts, you'd prefer we come through the other side of the battlefield covered in rainbows and leprechaun gold? This isn't My Little Pony Online; give us some blood!

PS3 actually doesn't have wet water effects last I checked.

PS3 limitations. For almost everything. This and the limited budget Yoshi has holds the game back both graphically and gameplay. We will start seeing cooler thing once the archaic prehistoric relic PS3 will be dropped once and for all.

I'd rather... what we have now. Why add anything relating to blood and gore? There are plenty of games where blood and gore are part of the theme, like Bethesda's games. But that's games made from a Western perspective. We rarely see Japanese games with blood and gore, Bloodborne being the first 'real' foray into the concept. And even then it's not really dedicated to it. Sure, there's blood, but as for gore there's barely any. Enemies don't explode in showers of organs, they just slump over like rag dolls. And other players flake away like burning paper mache'. I'm fine without blood, if I wanted to play a Western MMO with all that entails I'd be playing that instead of XIV.

It's solely for immersion, really. If it's windy, you expect your loose parts to move. If you get wet, you expect to be all shiny and dripping. If it's cold, you expect the ground to be potentially slippery. And if you slay a living being in close combat, you should expect to be all red afterwards.

You can keep it out of course, no harm in that. Especially physics can be very hard on the system and slipping can be "very" annoying. But it adds to have it.

Considering most FF games have little to no blood and this game is T rated, don't expect blood and gore to be added.

In a FF game you will only see blood inside of a CS or as a part of the environment, not during battle (except Type-0)

I'll admit... Some quests imply that you are soaked in blood after killing loads of enemies, the Dark Knight quests for example. Seems a bit odd for the NPCs to say "Oh god, look at you. You're all soaked in blood! Get away from me!" when you look clean as a whistle in game.

Not a big deal for me though, but I can see how it'll be "immersion breaking" for some people.

Here's your answer, if you want blood spattered corpses and gore, go find another game.

One of the things that I *love* about this game is that there is no blood. If I wanted gritty realism, soaked in blood and other viscera I could select almost any one of the major RPGs around. For me, the relative (or even absolute) lack of blood and gore in JRPGs has always been a selling point, and Final Fantasy is no exception to that.

No, this isn't My little Pony, it's Final [b]FANTASY[B], remember that please. As has been pointed out, FF games rarely (if ever) have blood at all except in cutscenes, and even then there is generally some restraint shown. Blood effects in this game would just not fit the mood at all, nor would it fit with the established conventions of being an FF game. If blood effects started appearing and blood soaked corpses dotted the floor or landscape wherever we were and we ourselves were covered in blood and gore, this would not be the game that it is.

Frankly, this is a game I play to enjoy, not to be sickened by the sight of blood and other assorted gore flying across the screen every time I hit something. I play this game as an escape from the crap that is reality, bringing the gritty reality of bloodshed to the game really destroys that aspect of escapism for me. For all those crying immersion, I'll counter with escapism and fantasy.

Personally I think the lack of blood in the game reinforces the concept that this is in fact a game that we play for run and to escape the real world. I doubt I am alone in these views.

If SE ever did implement blood and gore in this game, I think you would see one hell of a lot of players leaving the game almost literally overnight.

Addendum.
FF games (and most JRPGs) have always had a certain aesthetic. Their worlds, gear, and characters are clean, well designed, good looking, pretty, cute and/or handsome. The games are fantasy, we use magic, dead monsters fade from view in seconds. In this type of aesthetic and game play, blood and gore has no place, IMHO.

I highly doubt there would be a mass quitting over the addition of blood

Doubt it all you like, I think you're wrong.

I've never understood why some people like to see blood and gore flying across the screen. Since they would be utterly horrified to see such things in reality, I often wonder why people use the argument of immersion. Why would you want to be immersed in something that in real life would horrify you?

Either way, there are games, plenty of them, that cater to the thirst for blood. This isn't one of them and long may it remain that way.

Aside from all the blood talk here (which is hot pink as I learned from Dangan Ronpa). I'd like to see :

1. Snow on hair and clothing which makes everything bit glossy and whiter than usual.
2. Sublime wet skin sweat effect from the hair too if you're at Thanalan during sunshine. Could also happen if you sprint or something.
3. Clothes get dusty and grainy during duststorms
4. Very light wet effect during fog and drizzle

Out of all that, blood is going to be the least of peoples' problems. Ergo, you're quite wrong to think blood alone is going to drive people away when most people today are so darn desensitized to it in media.

Yep, yep and yup. Maybe not quitting, but some countries may be against it leaving some censor issues. Besides theirs plenty of ff games with no blood in it, besides type-0 (which is bland in the blood to begin with). Quick note: when I said gunk, I was referring to things they spew at us, not their insides :p

Excess blood is usually what pushes a game to an M rating. I remember reading how Tomb Raider Anniversary had to basically scrap most of its blood in order to keep the game rated T. I'm sure Square wants to keep the game as accessible as possible, so they wouldn't be pushing the ratings for the sake of bloody immersion.

Blood & gore would have major consequences for the game, with some geographical areas limiting the sale or banning it altogether. I'm over 18 (cough) but don't have a credit card anymore; it's quite likely that the subscription would have to be paid by credit card *in the player's name* to ensure only adults could play. That would be incredibly detrimental to the player base & eventually be uses by SE higher ups as an excuse to reduce funding (lower player count).

Everything has consequences, even seemingly small & unimportant things like introducing gore.

This game deserves a luxury treatment, I'd wish to see it if not rebuilt at least updated with an Ultra HD texture pack so it would look just as good if not better than the upcoming FFXV, this way it could keep compatibility with weaker systems if they could not handle better graphics without limiting the game's potential thus rendering any excuses to not do it futile!...

Ideally it will be rebuilt using Vulkan & HD textures (right now some are pre-Y2k quality ;). That would future proof it & allow it to run better on poorer hardware than it currently does.

Doesn't Squall get his face carved the F open in like the first 2 minutes of FF8? Also lion guy eviscerates himself in FFT to summon Jesus. There's blood and gore in FF occasionally.

Instead of things that would probably wind up being a rendering nightmare or would otherwise wind up looking really corny, I'd rather them add changes to your idle stance depending on the weather. e.g. In cold climates, you occasionally shiver and rub your arms. In hot weather you may pant and briefly fan yourself with your hand, maybe wiping your brow periodically. It gives flavor and makes your character and the world seem more alive, you don't have to worry about trying to render it properly, and you don't have to worry about it looking overly tacky which I'm sure would be the fate of any blood spatter effects they added.

As for the people arguing back and forth about blood and gore: the Final Fantasy series has never been known for a lot of blood and gore no matter how fantastic the battles get. There are a few occasions where they has been bits of blood or what one might consider to be gore, but those are exceptionally rare occurrences and it's highly unlikely that we'll ever see a FF game that showcases realistic violence.

I think it would be awesome to have armor/clothing get more and more ripped and stained as they lose durability before you repair them, but they will probably have to code something for every piece of armor in the game. Also PS3 limitations...

I believe they said they would, just not specifically. I know I'd seriously consider it. But, again, they went to alot of trouble to keep the rating what it is, adding blood and gore would have that rating change in a heartbeat.

Actually that sounds pretty friggen sweet. Off-topic, I'd also love to see our characters react to statuses like they do with sleep and petrify. Like if I have low health, my character will start heaving and look exhausted or something, nothing too terrible though like on the knee holding her arm and stuff (even though I'd like that a bit, bit megaman x-ish)

Back on topic: Places really high up with intense winds could make your character hold her hand in front of her face to block the breeze a little, and also in thunder and lighting weather, your character could jump at the sound of lighting if your in idle stance for a while.

Did you not read the complaints that went around? People hated that the grind is the SAME THING as before rather than the grind itself bring the problem.

Something that I believe would be fairly easy to implement since they already exists in the games npcs:

1. Hot areas: Fan themselves
2. Cold ares: Shiver and rub their hands together
