Huge part of the forum community maybe, but not the amount of players in game it seems! :D
I've never seen party finder so busy!
For a weapon that takes so much time and RNG with no clear sings of progression anywhere to be seen till you do the "bumps". Configurable stats is the bare minimun. I would considering diferent skin, colors and auras selecction with their own interface, naming options and trait seleccion. The only thing that makes relics special at this point in time is their higher polygon count models, and honestly, at least for DRG, there are tons of better looking options.
Awesome idea that's been thrown around a lot but it's never gonna happen sadly, this train of mediocrity doesn't show signs of switching track anytime soon.
I'd prefer new and interesting stats/abilities be added to many weapons and armor, but I'd settle for the process starting with the Anima weapons, sure :o
Remember guys: never ever.

I keep seeing people say this but for the most part those PFs are for the fate or dungeon stages. Those players don't grasp just how absurd the third stage is yet. I completed the first two stages relatively quickly and happily, as did my FC and my linkshells. As soon as we all saw the third stage we just said 'nope' and dropped the quest.
The third stage will take so long for most players to complete that the weapon will already be obsolete by the time they get it. Forget the boring stats on the weapon; it won't even be an upgrade!
I don't know, I think I'm coming to terms with it now. Maybe my the time I've grinded my 80 items I'll have enough to buy the others.
Wielding King Arthur's Spear shouldn't be all that easy. I do still think the Crafted items are BS though. Why throw gas on the specialty Craft flame war devs?
The thing I loved about XI was how weapons and other gear had additional unique properties. This made it so even gear that was at a lower level than you was potentially better than other high level gear you can get.
should atleast be able to reforge a percentage of 1 of the stats for something different
just because they are doing it, doesnt mean they are having fun and enjoying it. I dont mind grinding something even if it takes a long time but the reward better be worth my time. Relic questlines just like other things in ffxiv are bland and boring. Get rid of vertical progression and put some effort into making gear appealing. On that note cant remember last time i was excited about recieving raid gear..
Why? If it winds up being anything like the 2.0 relic we'll eventually be able to replace all of the stats with whatever we want anyway so borrowing WoW's Reforge feature would be a little pointless. If you want different stat combinations right now, that's what tomestone, relic, and primal weapons are for and incidentally why some of the relics currently have "terrible" stats for some classes to begin with.
The raid community blew up last time when the 2.0 relic became best weapon, even just temperarily.
I wonder if this game will ever see unique stats or ability bonuses. I wonder if its a coding issue or something.
That and the community cried about balance for almost 2 years and thought the community would self impose restrictions based on gear bonuses (if you dont have +10% jump damage dont join... etc). Funny thing is the community is already worse off with gear restrictions due to the ilvl system in the first place.
Gear determines what you are capable of in this game, period. In ffxi you could go fight the same lvl monster in subligar albeit somewhat difficult. Gear enhanced your performance not determined it.
Ffxi even released trial of the magians weapons that you could literally create to suite your wants/needs/playstyle.
Gear is just stale in this game for anything other than looks, even weapons... even the relic.
I really don't see the issue with it . It's a weapon, it kills things. Would the game really be much more exciting instead of getting +50 crit you get "5% chance for X skill to hit 10% harder" .. Do you want them to work on content or dumb stuff like this? I'd prefer content over reworking all the damage dealing algorithms, which they prob will never do anyways.
Even cosmetics would be nice, like different animations for flagship/stable abilities like DRG's jump or BRD's Heavy shot.
Although the game in general could use different effects across all equipments, not just relic. At lest something to break the tedium of just numbers so it actually feels empowering to get new equipment (which cosmetics can also accomplish)
But this is easy, is mindnumbing easy. Is so easy, it doesn`t even depends on you on a big part of the progress but RNG mechanics. Only way this got even more easier is that all quest items were fate dropped at 0.0000000000001% chance. There it would be absolutely no player influence on it.
Please, don`t confuse time consume with difficulty, thats one of the mayor design flaws of this game, time will never be and will never make for skill.
I'm probably only ever going to do it until i200 anyway since it'll allow me to level my other jobs in the process. Just the other day I was with a squad in CWH where 2 members were in their 40s...
While I wouldn't be opposed to more unique stats, I don't think they should be confined to Relics alone, as the game in general needs some more stat variety. Given the presumed ability to customize Anima stats eventually, they will be worthwhile for a significant chunk of the population. Even without that, a lot players don't raid and so doesn't have access to an i210 to begin with (and it seems they're keeping the tomestone weapon upgrade items in their back pocket for a lot longer this go round).
They're worth it. Just not necessarily for everyone.
I was just talking about Relics gaining cosmetic "ability glamours" yesterday in my LS though (something they'd mentioned with respect to Black Mage before and also Summoner pets). I'd love if the relic turned a Rogue ability or two into something with an Eastern/Ninjutsu flare.
The issue with adding unique bonuses to relics is you create a balance issue. You would have to add them to tome and raid weapons as well so one doesn't become auto BiS. Then you have an issue of have to do content you don't want to do.
I hope with the announced material changes coming the wep ilvl and base stats will all normalize. You can then pick the content you want to get the ilvl weapon and material to customize your weapon secondary stats. They can use a materia slot bonus or special materia to add the stats like the OP posted. Then we will have a good mix of horizontal and vertical progression.
It shouldn't be exclusive to relics, but weapons in general. Straight numbers (especially at the marginal gains we have now) don't do anything to make your character feel empowered. I'm certainly not feeling the effects of skill speed unless it's in the magnitudes of 150+, and that's only for a visual reflection of having GCD reduced by around .05 seconds.
Effects like "Chaos Thrust combo gives you Chaos Dive. This effect boosts your next jump damage to 200 potency if done from the rear. Effect lasts 10 seconds. Cannot occur more than once every 30 seconds." or "Your full thrust has a chance to inflict deep wound, causing the target to bleed for 75 potency. Effect lasts for 30 seconds. Effects like these could be attached to all weapons and not just the relic. Sure people will still opt out for the one that's "better", but hell, people are already doing that anyway in regards to secondary stats, except those are less tangible in actual gameplay.
Even with this in mind, the secondary stats really don't do much to set themselves apart or otherwise have a tangible effect on gameplay outside of the numbers. On top of that, materia melding on gear isn't anything like inventing the wheel, it's just using the damn wheel that's already been invented so I really don't see it giving *that* much depth into horizontal progression.
Basically forcing you to only play one class because you'd have 25 gearsets for that one class.Quote:

Honestly, I am on board with the OP but am taking part in this relic grind. Why? Because it's a better weapon for me, and A4S is a long way off.
I am actually fairly disappointed with a lot of stuff in-game, and I did quit recently. What did I find out while I was gone? Despite FFXIV having a lot of issues, it is the closest thing to what I want in an MMO. It's PvE centered (which cuts out a lot of the better new ones) and just fits in a lot with what I want. That said, if another MMO that met my interests better, I'd be gone in a heartbeat. I currently have no loyalty to this game, and it sits at about 70% of what I want it to be.
Balancing may be harder, but not impossible. There are many ways around this. Whether it be via testing, by limiting the power of interesting stats or by allowing you to change stats on the go without changing items.
This is already an issue.
For example, I don't want to be spending all of my time grinding hunts, law, poetics and Alex NM right now. i want to be trying to progress through Savage and Thordan EX, but they have been thrown to the back burner because this grind is so long and delays add up.
I don't want to craft or spend millions of gil, but it looks like I'll be farming gil in some way that I don't want to be.
Me too. Though, I'd like to have more interesting stats than choosing whether I add CRIT materia or CRIT materia.
Good news, the relic is optional. Wait until the nerf if you prefer other stuff. I didn't get the Thordan weapon, is someone twisting my arm about it? Nope.Quote:

Good news, even if crafted gear was somehow viable (which it isnt now), you also don't have to get it. And if you wait just a few weeks, the specialist items will drop in price. Though probably not below 1 million for your 16 items. 1 million is extremely easy to get though.Quote:

I think the raid community response would have been different now considering I seen zero threads going on about twines cheapening their as3 achievements since most people wanted that little boost and be done with the wall.
These aren't good news at all, and doesn't address my post at all.
He claimed that adding in a relic with horizontal progression will encourage you to do content that you don't want to do. That is what this relic does, as was the point of my post.
I don't like to disregard peoples posts and like to encourage everyone to voice their opinions, but your post is incredibly useless. It doesn't address the point of my post at all, and your 'good news' comments are nothing but condescending and unwanted.
-I was think the same thing, instead of focusing only on stats maybe adding some effects to basic attack or skill, can make i much more interesting, lets say it has a cast of x% of you special skill, or that weapon can add some type of debuff to enemies.
-another idea will be adding slot to the weapon & adding materia able to give effects/debuff or skills to it. ro making mobs drop materia that can cast the monsters skills.
-im not a game developer or anything so this ideas are just ideas, i had no idea whats going on on the background to make something like that happend.
I don't mind doing the quest. In fact I'm doing the crystals right now for my SMN while I take bard up to level 50. It's not so bad yet and I'm doing daily beastmen quests while I'm at it. I expect it to take time, but adding a unique stat to it I agree would be fun. That though does link back to I think they should make more in depth stats and reworking some of the things anyways.
Someone made a good post about using FFIX AP system, and applying it on this game. General gear gets general things. Raid gear getting obviously much well deserved ones and things like Relic getting something really job specific.
If they don't do anything I'll still play. I do love this game a lot and I wouldn't say I'm sick of it.
Personally I think unique stats and special effects should have been implemented with Materia. Instead, we just have more bland stats with caps that further limit Materia's capabilities.
If Materia were more interesting, there could have been relic-specific ones that only fit on a relic weapon.
I don't see why folks are defending such a bland and lazy piece of content really... I can't imagine what it was about this quest that delayed it's release, hey grind a bunch of fates, oh hey now run a bunch of old dungeons, guess what run a ton of content that you have been running for months on end to farm up a mess of items that you could have been farming all this time had we released the content on time. All for a weapon that doesn't feel at all special, the only reason I'm even progressing the quest at all is to get a couple other 60's in ultra-easy mode, and I've really got nothing to blow law and poetic tomes on anyway.
Yes, people are doing it, but I haven't seen anyone in game that is super- psyched cuz this new relic quest is awesome, and in my opinion relic quests should be awesome, and should take some measure of skill to obtain, not just mindless grind til your eyes bleed.
And while we're on the discussion of weapons giving cosmetic bonuses, the bard relic weapons could have been an amazing use. You have the Artemis bow and berimamvu, both being functional as a harp, but you still put it aside to use a generic wooden harp for songs.
Yes it is a weapon, and all weapons to a certain degree will kill stuff. To others more unique/useful stats would make it more exciting. But that is only a small part of what may excite people in this game. It would imo go hand in hand with a more horizontal progression. And I can't see how that is dumbing stuff down. To me thats more like what we have now, no customization, our options are limited for gear, its either you get this or that, and only 1 is BIS.
Can you honestly say to yourself that spending months grinding this weapon for a sub-par weapon is rewarding enough for your time?
Enough of my rambling though :)
If they added unique stats to the Anima weapons they would have add unique stats to every other 210 weapon as well.
The reward of the Anima weapon is that fact that is an infinitely easier way to get a ilvl210 weapon vs the one other method of getting a 210 weapon.
Y'know, that one other method. The whole clear Alexander Savage one. I think 800 Alexander clears is better than the 800 wipes you'll have to A4S alone.
I agree, unique and interesting stats should be on every armor and weapon in game and not just the relic. The easiest and best way to do this is to add materia slots to everything, and make materia more interesting.
Mathematically, incorrect. Though yes it is easier, and more than likely takes a longer time commitment.
That's kind of personal opinion. I'd rather be wiping trying to overcome a challenge than facerolling through something while watching Netflix.
Then don't do the relic quest and focus on clearing savage. No one needs a 210 weapon to do it. More interesting anything is always nice but this notion that these weapons need to be special snowflake swords that can shoot lasers and do your dishes is outlandish. I feel that the time commitment is a fair compromise to the amount of overall work you and 7 other players have to put in to clear A4S. If people don't like that idea then they are free to just work at their own pace while waiting for them to just nerf the whole step anyway.
