Evolution of your character

Thought it would be fun to see how our characters have changed since release. :3 Here are Kae's journey of looks:

XI - Was named Taeyu back in the day, Kaelah's surname Tae is what everyone there used to call me.

1.0 - verrrry different to now. I was a pale Moonkeeper with blue eyes.

2.0 beta - I decided I wanted to be nostalgic and look a bit like my XI character. (Had white hair though, went brown with blonde like my real hair.) Not sure why I changed tribes, probably due to colour options I guess.

2.0 release - Kept the hair/face/tattoo but decided to go darker skinned in a bit to stand out a lil. Caucasian skin seemed to be most common. I also ditched the purple eye as I felt that was very popular too. Green is a typical kitty eye colour so I stuck with that. Changed the hair slightly red to compliment the skin tone. Went with bushy brows like my own too.

3.0 release - Did what I'm sure most of us did and tried Au Ra. I did like her this way, still do. Buuuut, she seemed less emotive in cutscenes to me and I missed my fluffy tail/ears.

Now - Back to same old Kaelah. Hair has changed style often between release and now but always keep the colour.

Now I wish I took more screenshots..sadly I did not. That and my screenshots are never clear.

Between 1.0 and now, the biggest change my character's made is shaving his head.

From FFXI -> 1.0 -> 2.0. I still use this exact model in the last shot today.
The most changes my character has made is its job.

Basically: I am a fantasia addict.

My original character at the launch of 2.0 was a Miqote on an NA server;

Then I went elezen again.... until sometime after Heavensward, when I decided to go Au Ra. Then I went elezen again.

And a couple of weeks ago I went back to my au ra.

...how long until I return to elezen I wonder.... I think overall my elezen is still my favourite...

Naiyah hasn't changed all that much, even from the 1.0 days. I'm also missing some images from between 1.0 and early 2.0 so I only dug up the three times I made big changes.

1) In 1.0 I tried to make her as close to her FFXI counterpart as possible, only with paler skin and green eyes similar to what I had achieved via DAT-modding.

2) When 2.0 launched, the dark green eyes from 1.0 looked almost black under 2.0's engine so I changed them to dark blue. I also experimented with highlights and probably used goldenrod yellow the longest, but have since changed back to red. I decided I didn't like my skin being so pale (I glowed in brightly lit areas!) so I used my first free fantasia to tan myself up a bit, and since this was before the Aesthetician I also went ahead and altered my lip color so they looked glossy.

3) After my 1st change my appearance pretty much went completely untouched until the Lightning Returns event. I adopted her hairstyle and have never worn another style since. The only other thing I've ever changed is the pale red eyeshadow and white facepaint stripe that matched a glamour I no longer use. I've been too lazy to change them.

Oh goodness. I've been through I don't know how many hair changes and two Fantasias now. Nostalgia time~

I started off as a male Miqo'te back in 2.1 and went through several different hair styles/colors...

I've just always stuck with the same color palette after I did the dark skin/red hair/green eyes look.

And current, I changed from Raen to Xaela a few days ago so that her scales would mesh better with her darker skin and the fake horns I keep using on all my outfits.

There were a lot of minor changes during all that- gradually making her skin more tanned, eyes brighter, hair different styles and lighter pink until I made it dirty blonde ish at some point as Au Ra. Changing from hyur after so long (going back to hume in XI) felt so weird, I decided it was the perfect time to make the most changes to take her as far from what she originally was

Wow the changes some people go through are crazy... I couldn't do that.
Not saying it's bad of course, just that when I've set down a character it's very hard for me to change them.

In fact the only fantasia I've ever used was to refine some facial options and define my character's eyes more... and I've had a total of four different hairstyles over a year (I just recently changed it and I may even change it back later, not sure yet).

I've always tried to change my hair. I really want to be able to enjoy that aspect of the game but I just can't bring myself to it! I've never kept a hairstyle for more than 10 minutes. I always instantly change back to my default. And never once used a fantasia. I have 3 I'm sitting on since the game was introduced that I got from the developers.

Male lalafel, male roe, female highlander, female aura. Too bad i don't have any screenshoot.

SHO MUCH PROGRESH

After getting i120 Ironworks gear I didn't pay much attention to the loot gear (no one wanted so I got) until I was invited to a wedding ceremony and I had to pick out something good to wear and saw I had this and holy crap this jacket is NICE. Conveniently had other color-coordinated gear to pair it with. Also changed hair and face tats.

That's why I thought it'd make an interesting thread, some people do such huge changes. I don't feel like mine has changed much, I considered my 2.0 Kaelah my first one if you know what I mean so I guess the biggest change for me was the Au Ra and I did find it reaaaaally hard to use that fantasia after being a Miqo'te all that time. It was surreal suddenly seeing someone else in cutscenes.

Beta phase 2: Moonkeeper miqo'te. I guessed miqo'te would be the most popular, so I wanted to stand out and make her blue with crazy white face paint. x'D

Beta phase 3 - release: Made a male sunseeker miqo'te, but once I saw Merlwyb in the storyline, I instantly knew that female roegadyn was my path.

2.2-3?: I noted that many of my friends had the same swirly eyes face paint, so I got annoyed and changed it to 'female roe only' -tattoo (right cheek).

Pre-3.0 (around March): Changed from pink to pale purple. Have been like that ever since.

I lost all my old screenshots of my character after a computer switch, but essentially he started out as a feminine miqo'te male CNJ and is now a female au'ra DRK :B

I'm MOSTLY like this. Not counting her name (originally didn't fit seeker conventions at all), Rhuna hasn't changed all that much since I first started playing aside from adding scars and longer hair over time. Though I doubt I'll change her current hairstyle for a VERY long time (the long, fluffy one with the bangs) since it looks almost perfectly like my favorite drawing done of her.

I have a massive amount of screenshots, so this was difficult to narrow down.
She started life in Vana'diel, quickly working out that Dark Knight was where the most fun was to be had, though she did also train as a Corsair and Scholar. I didn't have time to look through the more than 100,000 FF11 pictures I have, so I grabbed a close up and then a couple of renders I made in 3ds max.

After over a year of having a very short avatar (there's been two Elezen in my static since T7 so I was acutely aware of just how short my character was) suddenly being tall was interesting. The strangest change was going from male Miqo to female Miqo, because that was back when SCoB was still a thing and I remember that being shorter actually made it so I had to adjust my camera in T8.

This is what I'm running with now, but I give it a paycheck at most before I go back to Miqo'te. I love the Au Ra, but damn I got attached to my character.

My character hasn't changed very much since I started! People always told me "why mess with perfection" whenever I think to change something so all my character's changes since starting are kinda subtle.

Nice thread idea.

I started out in FFXI, like many others. I actually bought the game to play as an Elvaan but during the character creation process I changed my mind (I wanted to be a THF, and the Mithra had better character creation music). So this was me from 2002 until earlier this year when my PS2s could no longer keep up with the strain:

I had a brief visit to the world of FFXIV when it was in beta, and this was my character. Unfortunately I didn't have a computer which could run it well enough to play properly, so I hardly have any pictures:

Eventually the game came out for PS3 so I bought it and made a new character. Still wanting to be a Duskwight, I decided to go with a guy this time. Renard was born:

I was expecting Elezen to be reasonably common. Boy, was I wrong. I rarely see any others on my server, and hardly any are Duskwights. In a way it's nice that no matter how plain I look I always stand out in a crowd.

Over time I upgraded to PS4 and persuaded my old FFXI linkshell to migrate to FFXIV. I married my real-life partner in-game and decided to change hairstyles as a surprise for the wedding ceremony, since my usual style was too casual. Everyone made fun of me for arriving at the venue dressed casually and wearing a hat, but the surprise worked well. I was going to switch straight back to my old hairstyle but in the end the new one grew on me.

I don't tend to change characters much once I've become attached (my free Fantasia was used to adjust my date of birth because I'd accidentally left it as the default). Renard's clothes change every day but he'll probably look exactly the same forever.

Well, the good thing is: I was always happy to spam my screenshots, so even though most stages of my transformation are not on this PC, if I just google myself, I find something for each stage, so I guess it's fine xD

No XI screenshot because I dropped that game after about 2 days, found it horrible, but I was that female cat thingy.

My 1.0 look never changed: short, reddish brown hair, the most tomboyish body build and all the possible facial scars.

ARR beta and 2.0 start: all that changed was that her hair became really red now, as well as an added star-facial tattoo :) After this screenshot I left the game for about a year.

Return at the end of 2014 look: for the first time, let Meo's hair grow out, got rid of facial scars, plucked her eyebrows, and bleached her hair. Basically, Meo finally became a lady x)

For Heavensward, I knew right away I'd turn into an Au Ra lady, mainly because I was so sick and tired of glamours always not going well with my red or orange hair. I wanted bluish colors, for once!xD
So what came to be was one of my biggest regrets: doing my ingame-marriage as a tomboyish Au Ra :(
Half of the time my face wasn't showing and when it was visible, I looked incredibly mad to get married at all xD

I decided to go back to Miqo'te, but since I had 2 phantasia left, I decided to switch to Lala in between :o

Lmao. I noticed this when I went through my EB ceremony too. My bond partner is a female Au Ra and both of us ranged from bored to annoyed to angry in 90% of the wedding cutscenes. When they did smile... it was almost worse. x3

I've gone through a few big changes so far...

When I started playing a couple years ago, I started as an Elezen. Because Elves are best! But then I realized that their proportions bothered me. I tried a few subtle changes and came to the conclusion that I just couldn't play an Elf in this game, which saddens me greatly. I unfortunately do not have screenshots, as I was on PS3 at the time aand just didn't even think about it.

I had been excited for Au Ra, and then disappointed with how the females turned out, mainly how short they are. But I decided to try it out for a bit after creating an alt and just looving their emotes. I loved my Highlander, but eventually that angry stare got to me. Whiiich brings us to now. There have been a couple hairstyle/color changes, but I do love my little fish face Au Ra.

This was my 1st character that I had for nearly a year. i was always "meh" about his appearance since he always looked plain compared to everyone else since I used my free Fantasia to make very minor changes and I didn't want to risk going too out of my comfort zone. Also, back then you could not purchase Fantasias and you were only given that one free as Vet rewards. Even then, I'll always have fond memories:

When Fantasia was finally purchasable i decided to switch into a miqo'te and boy was that fun! I also changed the name to be more lore-friendly. I had this character for probably over 6+ months and I managed to complete all pre-3.0 DoW/DoM jobs with him. If I were to switch, I'll switch back to this one, but with minor changes:

I eventually changed into a Highlander since I liked their physique and one of the face options, but i was never truly satisfied due to gear and hairstyles not looking right on a highlander. The small eyes + no eyebrows annoyed me to no end:

When Heavensward went up, I immediately changed into an Au Ra. I liked the horns, but I didn't like the face but decided to endure thinking I'd get used to it, but I just could not

After a week I switched to the face option that I wanted in the 1st place. Luckily, the horns was also my 2nd option. It's a shame that we can't choose horns ;_; Annd I've been this character ever since

A. My first beta Miqo'te, when there wasn't much choice for colour palettes or hairstyle. *_*
B. That was when there was more choices, still using Face 3.
C. Used Face 2 (which will later prove to be my choice later on).
D. A Seeker of the Sun version of B.

A and B used Face 2, but while I liked the colour scheme for A (reminded me of when I played night elf), I liked the overall selection of B better. Soon after release, I stopped playing, but then I came back and remade a character.

I would often change to the pony tail option, since it seemed to fit best as a realistic option for when he wanted to put his hair up (similar length etc...).

Going from miqo'te to au ra, I realised that I change my hair a lot more as au ra:

Not my personal screenshot, but this is my model in FFXI. Cerberus server from 2005-2013. Started as White Mage (WHM) but turned Ninja (NIN) in 2008. By 2009, I had become a Corsair (COR), moved to Asura in 2013, and retired in November 2014 as COR due to my dedication to FFXIV:

This is my main and only character. Started FFXIV in beta phase 1 on PS3. While this image is my same character model, I started as a CNJ with red hair. By late October 2013, I changed the color to black/purple and became BRD main. I became a NIN when ROG released and currently still main NIN. I have never used a Fantasia or changed my name:

I think it's so cool when people have kept the same character from the beginning... at first I changed races because I was bored and wanted to try out the others, now I change because I can't decide between my elezen and my au ra. :( I love my elezen's face and voice, but glamours and emotes don't look so good... I love my au ra's emotes and glamours, but I hate being short even at max au ra height. Regularly switching is the only option ;)
