Lord of Verminion: In My Opinion...

...it isn't what I wanted, nor what I was entirely expecting.

Oh well, some are enjoying it, so whatever. Props to them. With so many minions, I don't know what the fuck to do with them all. And the hotbars are a headache to glance at...

In fact, that's probably my main gripe with it. I feel as though the HUD could use some adjustments. But that's just me.

I feel like it would be easier on the eyes if the minions were color coded in their backgrounds for what type they were; green for critter, red for monster, yellow for poppet and the default blue we have now for gadgets... At a glance, editing hotbars is really an eye sore...

Seems like SE should consider revising the Tutorial to give it more time / be more clear in the instructions, from a quick skim of the topic.

I think they could have made the tourney less win-tradable but obviously they didn't learn their lesson from TT. I actually like the game though (with mouse and keyboard, it kind of sucks for me on a controller)

Personally i think the time to develop could have been spent elsewhere but that's just me.

I had the same trouble too at first, but I found that it helps to not use up every slot on the hotbar. I only play with eight minions at a time (two of each type) and that really helps me keep track of their strengths and weaknesses much easier than a full hotbar. I've really enjoyed LoV so far.

I cleared all the challenges with a hoard of Tomato Kings. Only 1 hotbar slot 'o'/

I tried to overthink strategy and which minions are best.. then i ended up just sending a squad to the enemies shield beacon thing and spamming their red circles til I won lol. I'm sure there's more strategy involved but so far spamming any minions works just as well if you take their shields down.

The hotbar is too tiny!

They mentioned somewhere that the hotbar is set to 80% size by default. You should go probably go and resize it. (Unless you mean that it needs more spaces. That's just... overwhelming me thinking about it.)

I went in expecting Starcraft but with cute minions, I set myself up for disappointment there.

It would be a great way to pass the time while queued up for content, but you can't do that as far as I'm aware for obvious reasons, so right now I'm not too interested. Maybe when there's another content lull.

My opinion is "OH GOD THINGS ARE ATTACKING MY CRYSTAL GO MINIONS GO PRESS BUTTONS OH I SHOULD ATTACK THE ENEMY CRYSTAL oh I won? Whoo! I'll go play another challenge!"

Seriously though I overthink which minion to use and I feel the controls are clunky but that could be me not being used to it. I do have fun when I get the idea of what to do in the challenge though even when I'm tripping over the controls.

I do hope they do that in the future, maybe with mounts too. I spent countless hours doing pet battles in WoW, I was subscribed just to play the pet battles...

That system would give the whole minion/pet thing a meaning besides being just cosmetic. Moreover they can take it a step further and maybe use the classic FF combat style (ATB) for pet battles.

With all those minions that are mini versions from NPC's they could even make them have special skills similar to the real thing. For example they could add a Cloud mini minion and have it do Omnislash in pet battles or sth like that. All in all fun stuff and fan service.

I kinda enjoy it, around 500 RP the tournament even started to be fun.
Untill then I just spammed enemies with 2 minion-type combo but then I had to start countering each minion type so it was fine.

It is actually much better than I expected and the number of minions only provide enough space for many strategies.
I started tournament with around 4 minions on hotbar and ended up with full hotbar as I encountered players with different play-style. I have 110 minions and think that maybe 30 of them are useful, but it is still a huge amount considering you need to have 4 of them up.

Does anyone know where to resize it? I looked in the HUD panel and couldn't find it where I'd think it would be...

I don't need more spaces, I just have bad vision. ;)

I tried it, and just can't be bothered to play it. What I wanted was pet battles, or maybe a tower defense. Why this?

The Devs did say they wanted to try something completely new and experiment. They're aware that that some of it would fail. Seems like Verminion failed, but atleast they tried something new this patch: Verminion and Diadem.

We wanted to make use of our minions, they delivered ... I still would have preferred a pokemon-like turn-based battle system than what we ended up with.

The tutorial also probably left a REALLY bad 1st impression for alot of players: it's time-limited + cost 100 mgp ...and it's a tutorial. I'm a fairly slow reader + I had to make sense of the controls and I eventually ran out of time. After that I was "well, whatever." The saying goes "1st impressions"

They atleast need to increase the time limit.

After only a few days of release the Verminion arena fairly empty. There's more people playing the mining/botany minigames than there are in Verminion. And I'm in Gilgamesh

I agree the tutorial was confusing, I failed twice, but I got the hang of it and finished all the challenges now. Unfortunately I think some minions are OP an challenge can be entirely beaten with a horde of Minfilia it tomato king etc...

The most unintuitive thing to me?

Drag and drop using two different mouse buttons.

WHY. WHO THOUGHT THIS WAS A GOOD IDEA.

I kept trying to send a squad out and I realized I was selecting them, and then clicking the wrong mouse button to choose where I wanted them to go. So they just stayed put the entire time....

Watched my cousin get stuck in tutorial, kept saying press R1 I think and highlight (A) he sat there for a good 5 minutes trying to figure how why the A wasn't working.

Then he was like okay clicked the icon below A and it finally worked but by the time he started to figure it out time expired and he lost interest he said the controls and information given aren't very clear.
He said if they gave unlimited time for the tutorial he probably would of figured most of it out, he felt rushed because time was ticking down.
I didn't like it after I watched I was even confused on controls.

I just completed all challenges for Twintania minion, then went for two tournament matches and probably will never play again. PvP matches are really clunky, not fun at all. The only thing that I really enjoyed is the last challenge.

One of the problems is that there is not much strategy involved ...

If you have choosen wrong pet type for the first few you can already cry and press the lose button...
If you fail at attacking shield (or any target you are aiming) its mostly already over because too slow regrouping and you "start" with less minions to counter "more"...
How to beat stronger minions? its balanced that you mostly need "the same amount of small fry to kill a big one"...
Targeting is a joke, even when going in with enemy weakness its pure luck to get upper hand (range)...
Skills... why in hell we have to have 4 of same kind to actually use it? But without skill using you will most likely never win any pvp matches...

I hoped for a nice "Tug of War" like game or at least some sort of DotA like game, but what the hell we have gotten?
Capture the flag in real time is not a strategy game!
Special the real time part is strange, how should we manage so much in that short time and not for one path, we have to attack 3 at same!

Why is there no Co-Op?
Boss fights were fun, even NPC challenges are nice, but against players its just spawning the same combo and pray on your luck with a bit micro movement tricks...

I can assure you- you're not the only one. This game is becoming a bit of a joke with the direction the development team is heading. Spending unnecessary amounts of time on content that very few will actually participate in- and undermining previous content shortly after it releases. With no incentive and a monthly fee- I don't see this going well unless something major changes.

atm i think they wasted time developing this :/ , i want the snowboarding and arena minigames :(

I was disappointed also. For some reason i had it in my head we were getting ff tactics with minions.

after trying it, ive added it to the list of things i wont waste more time on

For some reason I hoped it would be turn based. It's kind of fun though.
I don't think it was a waste of dev time either, it doesn't feel like it took forever to make and I like these nice little extras. Hopefully as a 'just for fun' thing it has some chance of staying a bit relevant, maybe.

I'm just not excited to play the part of MOBA's the computer automates. Pretty sure that's not just me.

You should have checked out Lord of Vermillion first... that's a arcade game made by SE. Same thing. Partially your own fault for expecting SC lelz

I mean, they couldn't even try to make it in the likeness of the Fort Condor "strategy" mini-game you played in FFVII... sure, it wasn't in Gold Saucer, but man...

I just feel like this was a really good opportunity for something really great, but it was squandered in its execution. I almost want to feel bad for my opinion because I know a lot of work went into it. But no, I won't do that. o/

I only played Stage 1-8 but those was all easy cleared with just mass producing Low Budget +ATK Buff Minion and zerg down the Enemy.
Even in Ranked you can win with this against most players. Because you just zerg the crystals down.

I love the minion minigame. I find it handles just fine with keyboard and mouse (controller probably sucks though). Anyone with a speck of RTS experience like in Starcraft would probably wreck most players, but I can see how for most people who haven't played an RTS how the whole thing can be a bit confusing. But microing my minions handled just fine.

For those of you who say that there is no strategy, you are doing it wrong. There is definitely strategy, especially when two high level players are fighting. I've had 100+ RP matches against players and I am currently undefeated. While 90% of my opponents have no idea what they are doing, there are a few that were really close to beating me using some pretty neat strategies and I have to go full tryhard to win. At high levels of play, things move extremely fast, there's always abilities going off, and there are minions all over the map attacking everywhere. I'm kinda saddened that most players just aren't fast enough to fully enjoy this minigame, granted I probably caused a bunch to quit myself by curb stomping them in their first match on my server, lol.

Just for the record and to give an alternate point of view, I think adding more dungeons/diadem is a waste of dev time. I run the dungeons once, and it's neat the first time, but every other time after it's the exact same and I start to fall asleep. While the botanical dungeon and void ark were really pretty and nice the first time, it's already gotten old for me. Things involving players facing each other, like PvP or minion battles, is always interesting because it's different every time, and sometimes you face against a really good opponent that you end up having the shakes when you win.

The tournament sucked though, even though I could beat pretty much anyone on my server, I had no chance in winning the tournament since my RP was so high I was only getting 1 point per win in the tournament. That is absolute BS, I mean if good LoV players can't win the tournament then what's the point?

I'm thinking of making a guide for LoV player vs player, maybe that would spur some interest? Things are more fun if you understand it, I can understand it would be frustrating and confusing for people who are just starting a RTS.

I was kind of expecting some mini game where a bunch of players controlling a single minion fought eachother in this arena gaurding crystals with you team and attacking the other players crystals, what i got was a mini game that mad me rage when i did the first tutorial cause i didnt know what the frig was going on XD but its not entirely bad once you figure it out, still think 14 would be fine without it though

I dont understand their decision to have a timer at tutorial battles..half of the time in my first tutorial I glanced at the timer and felt pressured to read it really fast and I was a little overwhelmed at the second tutorial (that does not tell you much??) but somehow I still won. After that I played against someone from my FC and after that I did not touch it again. It makes me sad because I looked forward to it much but its just so confusing and having lots of minions makes this much more complicated (at least for me ;)).

The biggest point against it is the payout. We have to pay 100 MGP to play it (even for the tutorial) and we only win 150 MGP? You need quite some time to finish a battle and you only get that much points? I get way more by playing the new tree mini game. (Which is fun :D) So sorry SE but I wont play much; maybe I will try the tutorial from time to time to get the minions..

As I told a FC member last night, I wanted pokemon and I got pokemon chess.

The controls are clunkly even with mouse and keyboard and also broken - I haven't gotten the "teleport your minions to another gate" feature to work outside of the tutorial.

Minigames are cool (this is even more than a minigame) when a game is ok with the main content it offers, there are too many issues that needs to be addressed right now to add such a big minigame. In my opinion this was not the right time to release it, after a long wait we could have used more real content.

I'm loving Lords of Verminion. It takes time to get used to the controls, but once you pick it up your good. I have not had an issue setting up a hotbar set up for my minions. There is no wrong way to play this and win. All minions are viable options to tackle each challange, though some minions are better then others. I also don't have an issue with the minion selection as the ID tag at the counrer is big enough to understand. There is also a "player guide" that explains what stuff means.

One thing i love most about this, is the cuteness of it. I almost die laughing at each challenge. My two favorite challenges is Queen and I where you face nanamo and the alliance leaders. (mostly nanamo and raubhn appear) And you send a minion after nanamo and see she is the tinist minion, all my citters are bigger then her. And the challenge "darkest" somthing where you fight the scions. Taking minfilia down with a black kitty was funny as heck.
