Hi fellas, I apologize in advance for making this topic which I am sure has been covered already--however, I just wanted a little clarification on MP regeneration since the update. I noticed while standing around in Ul'dah this morning that I was able to regen MP while running around. I thought I had read in the patch notes that one could do so only when standing still, and not incurring enmity, is that correct?
I did notice that the rate at which I recovered MP was 7mp/tic while moving, and that standing still increased the rate exponentially (much like in XI, ergo "the norm").
So, if anyone could shine a little light on this for me, I would appreciate it very much. I'm sure it's just an oversight on my part.

I've noticed the same thing. I also know it was intended for you to not regen MP while your hate bar being red on any mob. But, going more deeply, if you have a DOT effect inflicted upon you, you also don't regen MP. Moreover, during the Ifrit fight, I would randomly not regen MP at all while standing around looking at my party get pummelled to death because my MP would just stay at, say, 9.

The way the patch notes worded it, was that your mana would stop regenerating when incurring hate, which means everytime you cast a spell, it shouldn't be a persistant thing otherwise you are screwed the moment you cast a spell. -

It does say enmity is addative now, so instead of being a threshold anything you do just adds on enmity, and it keeps growing. So yes it seems the moment you do anything (inc getting hit) you have some fort of enmity. If you died and got back up and a dot was on the dot would be dealing damage from you so the enmity would immediately go back onto you.

Consider that your entire party is scrambling around and *might* get a chance to raise a couple of minutes after you're already dead.Quote:

In my case I wasn't casting DoT's so this theory is no good, I was watching my team mates mana and everyone elses seemed to be regenerating, mine wasn't though at all, not 1 mp came back, that was until I sat down, so I thinking it must be a glitch and I really hope it is one that SE have spotted or know about.
Someone mentioned in the other thread I started that you have to be within a certain range of Ifrit to regenerate mana, but this just seems an odd and silly thing to do. -

I've noticed the following about HP/MP regen while in and out of combat.
If out of combat, HP/MP can regen still while moving, albeit at the slower rate. This can only happen while in passive mode. Once stationary, a "slowly accelerating regen rate" kicks in. I think the default rate is now something like 2.5%, then it kicks up to 5%, then finally 7.5%. After standing still for a while and taking no actions, the regeneration rate gets very large.
While IN combat (any enemy is red or orange, even if you have not incurred enmity at all), you cannot regenerated HP/MP while moving .. only the stationary HP/MP regen method work. It does not matter if you are flashy, even. I have cast (Sleep) on an enemy, stood still, and regenerated HP/MP, even though there was a flashy enmity icon on the enemy. It still works.
The one thing that will completely destroy your ability to regen HP/MP are negative status effects. Not just DoTs, but ANY negative status effect (Scourge, Accuracy Down, Defense Down, Blind, Poison, etc, etc) will prevent you from regenerating HP/MP. This applies whether you are in combat or out of combat. Do a run into the kobold stronghold where you are constantly being bombarded with THM cone-based Scourge and Poison, and you will see a whole level of difficulty in MP management... -

Hmm I think they need to alter DoT to be the exception in that case, otherwise there is no point debuffing in long fights, granted DoT's don't cost much MP in comparison to healing but if a THM is doing both then they are guna run out of MP fast and have little to no chance to regen.
This obviously doesn't fix the situation/bug where players recieve no mana even when not moving though. -

The issue is whether I have any negative status effects that have been cast or otherwise applied to me. I've also noticed that when I sleep a group of mobs, I regen MP (I do this for company leves all the time). Maybe they just made it that as you incur damage at all, you can't regen MP?
