If the Ninja relic is a disappointment...

You mean these?

Has SE said anything about if the relics will be similar to the old ones? If not then we can only speculate. It will definitely be a grind but I'm not sure how bad it will be
As for what I think it will be: Less emphasis on old dungeons, it will make us focus on current dungeons/FATEs/leves and I'm certain the new dungeons (arborarium, pharos, and void ark) will most likely be required.
Heavensward Super relic:
Collect atmas from Alexander normal with a 0.01% drop rate and you have to roll on it against 7 other people AND it counts towards your one drop per week from the raid.
You need 12 of these.
This gets you base relic.
Then you need 1200 Eso's
Then light farm from only Bismark Ex and Ravana Ex at 2-8 light per run and 5000 light.
MOAR RELIC PLZ.
u forgot running neverreap x 100

Man... I feel like they're afraid to talk about the relics because they know that the relics will not be fun - or they're afraid of effecting the economy (If they announce that relics won't transfer stats, it will probably hurt the Materia market further. If they announce that it does, the price of Materia will suddenly spike. If they announce ANY items, those items will instantly increase in cost. If they announce materials, obviously people will stockpile those)
It's really a losing game for them - but to top it off...
As we saw from the last Relic line, Square Enix is really running out of ideas to put into Relics. Mahatma became a victory lap of sorts. The entirity of the Zeta was basically Dungoun-Atma, though I appreciated that they -finally- put some story into (Even if it was just story overlayed on recycled content.)
*raises cup* Here's to hoping they find their inspiration and make us something good.
It should be that in such a way as to make me want to do it. Not want me to commit bloody murder on the billions of holy carry tanks I had to do for my nirvana or getting sick of running everything on my bard for the lights. Yes a grind is ok but a reasonable grind. Something I can spend a week or two with a couple of hours per day on without needing to focus and something that someone else can grind a few days if they so desire.
I can almost feel the pain!!
Thats why I'm/have
Eso capped
Poetics capped
Law capped
Allied seals capped (+ 20 unstained mark logs)
Centurio seals capped
Saved 22millions gil
Stocked tons of materias
99 ventures
I think whats gonna happen its SE giving those atms things, not from fates, but from unhidden maps with a 0,001 drop rate. <- Feel the pain
Any nerreap farm and I'll shoot myself.
I'm gonna laugh if the only thing we get for 3.1 are void ark and MSQ. XD
I dont get why people care for relics <,<
Its just another extreme timewasting grind for a very little result in the end! >.>
You can play 2-3 brand new games instead!
Because it gives me a reason to log in for more than 30 minutes a day for the mini-cactpot and DREX? What other games exactly? There's not a lot that peaks my interest, nor is there a lot of games that are coming out that are particularly big titles. Battlefront 3 seems to be a huge disappointment, Fallout 4 will come out but I'd assume it would get boring after a month, and I'll have finished Mad Max and the Witcher 3 expansion by the 10th of November unfortunately (loving the expansion though).
It's just a thing to waste time on when there's nothing else, I get on Skype/Discord and talk to friends while mindlessly grinding away, otherwise I'd just be talking without grinding which is just about the same.
Yeah, please unveil the huge timesinks that are only marginally better than tome weapons at best with each patch. I'm sure people will totally not hate them this time.
This pretty much...
There aren't any games at the moment where I could put a lot of time into it, without it being extremely boring... FFXIV can be repetitive (especially right now), but at least I have others to play with, and it's the combination of good friends in the game + content to do, that gets me to play the game.
I bought MGS5 for example, and it was good IMO, but even though that game was longer than most others in that genre, it didn't last very long.
I can understand that it might not be the most fun thing if you don't have much time to play the game, but I find it kinda fun racing towards that relic, and being one of the first ones to get it. Not necessarily one of the first ones on the server or anything, but at least compared to the people around you :)
More on the point of this thread though... Why make this thread now? They have showed some pictures now, sure, but the live letter is on the 25th... Which is 9 days away. Can't you just wait for that? If they show them earlier, that's just a bonus.
I'm afraid to see the MNK relics though, 95% of MNKs weapons look shit.
Just because some people don't like the Relic quests, doesn't mean everyone does... I can't wait for them, and I know a lot of other players that feel the same way.
If you don't like it, don't do it. Like you said, they're not needed for anything.
Can't wait to suffer with the atma revenge 3.0 and run dusk vigil 50 times for a drop. I saved some gils too just in case i have to buy a 500k Materia.
I lost all my hope in the gear designing of FFXIV already. not gonna expect anything just to get myself disappointed.
As far as I remember I don't think any relic step ever came out needing the current tomestone currency except for the very first step when you needed to buy the Thav Mist to +1 the original relic (now called Zenith) This was obviously done in a time-gate attempt because it was the strongest weapon in the game for most people upon release because A) Coil wasn't out immediately, and Turn 5 had many problems when it came out and B) Allagan Weapon was also only i90 upon release so itemization of some relics were actually better than raid weapons.
- Animus books costed Mythology when they came out, Soldiery was already in game.
- Novus maps for Alexandrite costed Mythology when they came out; Sphere Scroll was initially bought with Mythology, Soldiery was already in game.
- Nexus costed nothing in terms of currency. How large of a piece of your soul it costed is subjective and will vary between cases :)
- Zodiac; the only piece that costed tomes was Sacred Spring Water's, which were bought for soldiery while poetics were in game.
Atma and Zeta steps costed no tomes at all. Obviously saving the Eso isn't hurting anything and you will just probably have a ton of it to spend on an alt or something...but I don't think people should worry about needing Eso for the relic. At least not the first step. Maybe if they release more than 1 step in 3.1 like they did for the original relic. I would think you should definitely have 2000 Law tomes before 3.1 though. Just my 2 gil :)
Atma favors that you buy with Eso, else drop rate is 0.
Kinda surprise they didnt release Alexander favors yet.
Dont worry guys, most likely it will require a lot of Sky Islands content!!
Or a shite load of foreverreap iterations :|
(wouldn't surprise me if they sent us back to CT tho)
Murphy's Law dude; My PVE tank is geared for SA3(my Hurdle) and my MCH is min/maxed PvP till I hit rank 50(4 ranks to go!!!!) so I'm capped on both Law and Eso, not taking any chances.
Edit: Each Mahatma cost 200 Soldiery iirc, though you're correct stating it was never the current tome tier.
There's a decent chance that the relic questline this time will be more involved in terms of scope and story than the previous one. The system we got in ARR was something they created from scratch in response to feedback, so they'd had very little time planning it (whereas the rest of the game's systems had been in development for a long time). That's likely part of why we saw so much emphasis on old content.
We're likely to see the use of level 51-59 dungeons, of course, to keep queues running, but I also expect a lot of interaction with new content (namely the Exploration Missions) and hopefully more unique stories. I'm also hopeful that the quests will be more unique per job (the Atma books *still* say that every relic has different goals for them, but they actually don't).
Zeta's are gorgeous. I love all six of mine.
Here is my blm zeta.

I really hope the next relic doesn't use eso. Still trying to decide which class I should gear with eso next War or Nin? I will be ok with what they do as long as we keep customizable stats. Also can any warriors tell me what the current skill speed cap is at 60?
