Officially, they stated that they did not want crafted items to represent a meaningful advantage in raid progression, or something to that effect. The release of battle/magic recipes will be staggered to minimize their usefulness in new raid content.
In short, they were quite unhappy with the role crafted items played when coil launched, and to ensure that crafted gear doesn't accelerate people's progress through raids (and thereby force them to adopt a faster content development cycle), they have essentially killed off crafting.
I vote for story mode crafting. Where we can make non-dyable versions of the Job specific gear with little to no effort. Yoshida, make this happen please!
state of crafting u say?

Seems its more for glamour, food and stat potions. I know I haven't touched the 2star items myself or even looking at it, the scrips is enough to make me cringe.
I havent bothered making any 2star items. I can craft everything in the game without them so why bother. Seems like a waste imo. So much work for no gain. SE has destroyed crafting...
I've stayed on top on the Crafting totem since 2.0. From having 40 items for sale at all times in 2.1 to being the first person to mass market Hive Bardings and Thavnarian gear in 3.0. However, even as hardcore as I am I -refuse- to make two star Masterbook crafts (at the moment.) The entire system is {Too Weak to be Worthwhile}. The weekly scrip lock-out, each craft having their own gear set, and increased stats that don't help you at all (this patch). 100% Pure Concentrated Fail (with extra pulp.)
Not to say the Red Scrip system itself isn't profitable. I've made 140 million gil selling Purified Coke since the day it was released. But that's just one more reason not to bother with two star Masterbook items. There's 100x more profit just selling the materials.
I'm right there with Galactimus -- one of the top (and most prolific) crafters on my server. I *loved* crafting in 2.x and even the beginning of 3.x until I got to scrips. Then I saw how much poorer the 2-star items were compared to their level 57-ish melded counterparts and thought "Why?!" So I went ahead and did the scrip thing and made most of my 2-star off-hands. In the meantime, I'm hoarding mats to see what 3.1 will bring.
I understand they refuse for weaver to make weaver items for endgame. Still, it should make something else.
Isn't kind of ... strange, though? They create a perfectly nice system (let's not get lost in the details now; the core of it is great), give us the opportunity to use it - and then when it is actually used, they change their mind with a shrug, like "nah, you guys shouldn't be using that". Idk, I find it very weird, tbh. Now it's all but broken, with no real point to it.
Which also goes to make materia, once again, pretty much useless outside of gathering/crafting.
in my opinion the only 2 star equip worth crafting is CUL and ALC, at least in my server. only 2 of them can provide me stable and reliable gil (2-3 mil per day in my server where 2-star HQ gear price around 2-5 mil per piece) , and with 2 star gear i can make anything HQ from NQ mats using a simple macro.
Moar glamours please! IRL pretty clothes don't give you bonuses and people spend millions on them, same is true in this game.
I'm crafting 2 stars now cause I want to not be playing catch up when the "real crafting" comes. I thought about just hoarding the materials but judging from SE's current "you content too fast, we make you content not fast this time" stance I figured there's no way in hell the next tier would use the items we could already have a headstart stockpiling. In short if you find enjoyment in crafting then craft, if your crafting to make 50-60mil per 2star your far better off joining the rest of the people waiting til 3.2(yoshi said that's when crafting will be raid relevant). Hopefully by then the raiders will be selling more clears otherwise you'll still only be selling to other crafters/Gil buyers
The worst part of gathering and crafting isn't the lack of competitive endgame items, its the excessive grind that was added to it with Heavensward, when it was already bad before the expansion.
Until they bring gathering and crafting back to a place where everyone can make their own stuff with a reasonable amount of effort DoH should never get raid competitive items.
It doesn't have to be raid stuff. Hell it doesn't even have to be easier. There just has to be A reward, ANY reward for the crafting grind.
That's how it goes no? Effort/reward?
I only see 2 options here. Right now the effort/reward ratio is not fair.
-Either adjust the rewards to the effort
-Or adjust the effort to the reward
While crafting itself is indeed in an RIP state right now, it's still very early into the expansion to declare that the sky is falling. Crafting is in a state that is similar to combat when the game is fresh (just as it was with 2.0), a form of limbo. Given what is being expected though, 3.1 should ideally deliver on most states of nothing. So alongside combat, it should hopefully introduce something crafting and gathering related, if even to simply tide folks over until maybe 3.15. And by that, I'm referring to useful items... not filler unused goods like the fresh 60 crafted combat gear and the ridiculously expensive 2-star gear. So much pointless bloat in the craft list because of that. I mean, it'd be another story if those things were actually decent for their level and time/cost efficient, but that's certainly not the case for combat stuff.
These topics will not go away.
These topics keep coming up, everywhere.
One simple reason.
Crafting is not fine.
Crafting is not addressed.
You can wait.
So can we.
This week I will have 99 red tokens of each. Don't see any reason to get craft the new blue gear, nothing to use it on. And if its not going to be able to help me in other areas of the game its pretty pointless. I'll probably make it eventually just because I guess, that Weaver robe looks cool. Glamour, the true endgame. Lol.
The effort to reward ratio has become unbalanced. If the items we are to create are going to be there simply to ease people into endgame content it should also be an ease to craft them. To me, the biggest issue SE has is pleasing the non-majority. Look at the raiding topics that have popped up. Pleasing the majority should be the top priority, but don't let the fringe get to the point of mutiny. There needs a reason for every aspect of the game to exist. In fact, I'm of the belief that BiS gear should drag players through every bit of content in the game. Yes, Raiding should be better than crafting gear, but the Raider who also crafts should be able to make his gear slightly better than those who don't.
ask any1 why you dont craft?
- is not fun
- im forced to level all the crafts to 50 first and then gathering to max because then how i get mats, thats a lot of work...
- but at max u need HQ gear melded , that gil could go for the items instead.
- is worthless...
- grind grind grind ? i dont pay a sub for that
a newbie asked the other day , i want to be culinarian or tailor i think it was.......... the anwers let the poor newbie scared of even atempting to craft... lol
SE has decided that their metrics for calculating how long a raid should take (which they have already admitted were off by a decent amount with AS) cannot handle the variability given with crafted gear. That's fine. It's a lot of variability. Apparently there had also been complaints that raid accessories were worse then crafted accessories. Which was reasonable. Some of the raid pieces (not even accessories) are really awful. So .... they remove the crafted ones. Which makes about as much sense as anything else.
In the end, they decided to destroy crafting, and by extension, gathering. But people like it, so they decided not to just delete it. Instead, they added the useless specialization system, which just makes crafting harder (seriously: it eats your CP up, and adds way more RNG dependency, for minimal benefit), gated it harder then even esoteric gear, and made all the non-crafting pieces go away or be useless. Except gathering, gathering, they made half the pieces go away, not all of them.
And before people start arguing, yes, crafting is gated harder then esoterics. Crafting is doubly gated -- crafting tokens and gathering tokens -- and rng locked (favors are miserable even now -- before they were nearly unusable) -- esoterics are easy in comparison.
So, yeah, crafting is currently a zombified corpse shambling around trying to find brains. Unfortunately, it's not infectious, so no zombie apocalypse of crafting. Nobody cares enough to finish it off though.
