So are content patches every 5 months going to be a thing now?
nope
nope nope nope nope nope
no no no nope
It's late because the staff took a vacation after Heavensward, which I think they're more than entitled to. The patches after this one will go back to the regular schedule.
Edit: Beaten to the punch.
I posted this in the other thread, but I'll mention it here as well.
The developers have just finally had the chance to take a break (i.e. short vacation) since the release of Heavensward. We can't just chain them to their desks and let their brains fry. They need rest too.
Although patch 3.1 will be late, all subsequent patches will be on the regular 3 month interval schedule.
I guess I was wrong. Two more months of capping esoterics with PvP..
Would have love a bit more meaningful info though. There's literally no hype build up from the liveletter. Void Ark and the explolration were shown as still being development, but I'm not completely sold on it (especially the void ark gear sets, it looks like remodeled law gear)
What players should remember is when there is no restriction over the content you can digest, people will always feast upon it as quickly as possible and always be hungry for more. Gamers are gluttons for new content, no matter how you release it or introduce it, a week goes by and they want more.
HW in itself was an expansion they pushed out early, they put a lot into it and the content in itself could of been a patch that was released in October yet they chose to make it part of the expansion itself. So even if it's November that the patch comes out, it's all good since the expansion itself did offer a lot of content to enjoy as well as a complete story that wasn't broken up into 3-5 months that took years to complete (FFXI).
Seeing as how i still consider myself a new player, i welcome this, as it is giving me time to level other jobs and such. While i "rushed" through with astrologian, instead of just mindlessly capping eso, and then afking in Iddylshire, i have picked up a sword and shield and have started to learn to tank.
While this is going on, my professions have been getting some love to, and the wardrobe is growing. So..many...glamour crystals
Even though 5 months can be considered a little longer than most content patches, why not use this time to do something else in game you have been putting off. That zeta you have been wanting? That one class you thought might be fun, but just haven't had time to level? There are countless things to do in this game.
A break now (or then) is better than after it's released and we have to sit on bugs for a log time.
They are free to take a vacation and I'm free to unsub due to a super slow patch and a dull end-game. My only regret is not knowing they were taking a vacation sooner so I could have unsubbed this month too.
I wonder how profitable are such huge breaks between patches. It's obviously the game is going to lose a huge number of subscribers. Vacation or not, 5 months is a long time period when there's so little endgame content.
They deserved a vacation after A Realm Reborn was release, Heavensward really isn't particularly good once you're past the main story, not "I could do this for three months!" good, at least, let alone five... This really is an ill-timed vacation...
I mean, they absolutely do deserve vacations, everyone does, but to release an expansion with less content than your original launch and then take your vacation? That's going to sting the community... A Realm Reborn had more to it by virtue of the Relic quest alone, Crystal Tower was meant to be in it from launch as well... Heavensward? Well, I'm just wondering why Relics and Void Ark were scheduled for 3.1, when I remember the complaining about no content between 2.0 and 2.1... Heck, if those Sky-Islands alone were in 3.05 or something, I'd probably be singing a completely different tune right now...
I'd say I wish I took the main scenario slower, but I'm not sure I could have gone any slower... Glad Seal Rock at least lets me avoid Fractal and Neverreap... Can't imagine what kind of twisted mind figured that would be "good enough" for the playerbase while they delay 3.1 a month or two... Did SE recently hire Kefka?
Given the amount of threads lately have been about how boring the game currently is, the game will probably see a fair number of people unsubbing until then.
Though, I would have to think that SE has at least seen the amount of threads and comments about such things and is, at least, going to make an attempt at trying to keep some people from doing that. They could easily get a lot of people to stick around for at least another month if they removed the loot lockout on Alex normal.
*shakes his head at people who say 3.0 didn't offer much*
Three new jobs, increase level cap with new skills included (and crafts to cover the increased level cap), unsynced party (ie solo dungeoning), loads of new dungeons, new primals, flying, new zones, new city, new idle town, new gear, new hunts, new quests, new gathering systems, FC crafting, airships... am I missing more? Probably.
If anything, we're very spoiled with how much we get in the patches (how many games would give you something like Gold Saucer in a patch?), some of them are near-expansion-quality in themselves. I have no issues with lack of content and I play a lot. I was told by someone the other day about how in WoW you're lucky to get a patch of FFXIV quality ever. Everything is expac except bug fixes and balancing, so I'm told.
If I played any other game as much as I play FFXIV, I'd probably be bored.
Avoiding a temporary drop in subscribers and a whole lot of complaining on the forums.
vs.
Much-needed personal downtime after working a grueling development cycle, the neglect of which could lead to numerous issues including long-term health problems and strained relations with family and loved ones.
{Hmmm.}
I'm happy it will pop only on November. I'll have time to complete my esoterics set that I still only have 2 parts since I had to level from scratch after the expansion. I feel sorry for the ones who have time and are on par with the content.
Same, I'm SUPER hyped for the explorations, a content I can do with my 2 friends that play too and with the Lord of Verminion minigame. AND a way to get top level equips that doesn't require me to raid, yay!!
I'm even thinking about going to Limsa to shout YOSHIDAAAAAAAAAAA because the hype airship sailed here.
I mean, this was predictable as soon as people datamined the Halloween stuff in 3.07.
Yea it's disappointing, but you know what?
Mudra lag fix is coming so idgaf! :D Gimme the deeps! The feels! I'm hyped all over again! Woot!
For endgame, it doesn't.
Repeat Neverreap/Fractal, or Seal Rock, ad nauseum for your tomestones, and clear Alexander each weak. Seal Rock is the only thing new here, if we're comparing to A Realm Reborn, but in a community that, for the most part, is purely PvE, that doesn't mean a lot... Heavensward is basically A Realm Reborn, minus the Relics, at this point... Although I'd honestly say it's worse than A Realm Reborn, because I find Alexander to be pretty lackluster, but that's what I get for going in hopeful, only to be met with nothing more than a pure DPS check... High Voltage wasn't much, but at least it was something, Coil was leagues ahead of Alexander off that alone IMO, never mind the story as well...
See, I agree with this, but... I don't think many people purchased Heavensward so they could do 2.x content, they purchased it for the new content... Had they expanded upon the old content though, by lets say adding a special Treasure Map to old loot tables, which grants access to a Guildhest-style Lv60 event (think BCNM style content from XI) for some relevant rewards, then we'd be talking... That would be something new, and it would be content that seems twice as filling, because you'd first have to beat Ifrit (Extreme) for an Inferno Map, before doing a special Lv60 instance against Amalj'aa for reasons.
Instead... Instead we just have Fractal and Neverreap... Going through old content duo/trio is fun and all, but it's not something I'm going to log on all week to do... Sky-Islands seem like the new exciting content, but that just makes the delay for 3.1 all the more painful... I got my fill of Amdapor Keep and Coil in the early weeks of 2.0, and I mean this in every sense, but that's essentially all Heavensward is offering right now... Well, were it not for Seal Rock, but I'm really not going to kid myself and pretend that's relevant for 90% of the playerbase. For most, Heavensward is either redoing Amdapor/Coil at Lv60, or redoing Amdapor/Coil in Neverreap/Alexander.
Yea I kinda feel like they coulda given us something in early october. Maybe just the beastman dailies and 2 new dungeons. Then the rest coulda came out later. Not sure how much they have developed already but oh well :(
Some of you are just plain selfish.. The hours they work, they deserve a mini-vacation.. Jesus people on these forums are ruthless ><
3.0 is the VERY FIRST time we could do L51-60 content. If you expected more for endgame, you have unrealistic expectations. Still, 2x Extreme, Alex NM, Alex Savage, Fractal/Neverreap isn't terrible. During level cap increase patches (ie, expansion releases) you should expect most content to be during the leveling, not after. That comes later. This is essentially the only time they could realistically add L51-59 content so it makes sense the focus was there for 3.0. Expansions are for leveling, patches are for endgame.
I agree with you, I'm sure they deserve some time off. But if they plan on having long periods with no patches they should give people things to kinda grind towards. Ex roullette will only go so far. Overall I'm not upset because I'm still plugging away at the crafting stuff.
I get what you're saying, but A Realm Reborn was L1-50 content... It had more leveling and story content, on top of more endgame content... That is exactly why people are complaining that Heavensward is just A Realm Reborn, but less.
Again... 2.0 pretty much had this exact problem, minus the delay due to vacation... There was a lack of content and much complaining, though this was mostly passed off, as Crystal Tower was actually delayed until 2.1, so that was the "excuse"... When they released A Realm Reborn, they got (or should have got) a sense of how quickly their playerbase consumed content, and what they wanted. When they released Heavensward, they gave us pretty much the same thing, but less...
I can't reasonably look at what happened when A Realm Reborn was released, and fathom why the same "mistakes" were repeated, but here we are... Glad they're finally getting a vacation, but the timing sure does suck...
I am unsure that November was the most wise of times to drop a content patch of all things. Now I honestly don't mind waiting a little extra I mean odds are I could just play another game or something till then which is what I will most likely be doing since I've done most the things I've really wanted to do ((Bout the last thing to do is to get the snm eso complete)). I am more worried that the time there releasing the patch is around the time where games like Fallout 4, Rise Of The Tomb Raider, Star Wars Battle Front, Tales Of Zesteria and then Xenoblade Chronicles X like the first week in December. The patch has to pretty much compete with some really big titles that are competing for people's times. I am just fearful the patch is just going to really go over people's heads in the onslaught of titles coming out during that time. :(
I do agree though the devs do deserve a break most certainly. However the timing of is just very unfortunate....
