Wish there was an european server located in Europe.
They're currently working on it, it'll be ready sometime this year. October or November I think. There will be a 5 day maintenance for EU players though.
Sure they haven't, but if you think about it a little there's no reason for other servers to go down to. The servers are physically at a different location, they're not going to take down the Japanese or Canadian servers to get the EU ones set up. The EU datacentre is going down for a long time because they have to transfer massive amounts of data and get it all working.
That's the thing. YOU HAVE TO! You can't do close plays because you have to dodge as soon as the indicator appears, even though the cast should still go for long enough. And sometimes you just can't do that, because of other reasons. And that's where delay gives issues.
I'm a twitch (I believe that's what they call it these days). I also play a caster. See I can't help but notice it with everything I do. The ability clipping is really absurd.
Question: why do you think FFXIV has such a large global cooldown to begin with?
Sometimes it allows for some downright cheating as well. Whenever there's a telegraphed knockback effect I can cast Cure III after the knockback, but it will still heal all of the group (despite now being out of range).
I'm always amused by that one.
Three tips for helping with the dodging issue:
1. If you are on Windows, google Leatrix's Latency Fix (confirmed works on Windows 10 even)
2. If you have an instant cast ability, e.g. you are a black mage with Scathe, toss that ability or spell as soon as you exit the AOE. This forces the server to update your position.
3. If you don't have an instant cast ability or it's not up for non-mages, make a hard right turn and run parallel to whatever it was you were dodging (e.g. run alongside the landslide.) The act of turning in another direction forces the server to acknowledge you changed positions. If you just keep running in a straight line, the server doesn't know you've moved because the client won't bother sending a notice until you've gone a certain distance. The directional change forces the update immediately.
As for the EU Data center move, I suspect it will only be Chaos data center servers affected by the long maintenance.
Thanks for the tips Catwho ;-)
This explains why I always get hit by AOE when I move left then right inside an AOE (for example when I notice I won't make it to the left)
Although I never really notice lag on avoiding AOE but on interactions like FC chest (the horror...), or of-GCD skills (it's a pain to miss Rouse or Spur before Enkindle...)
One more hint... the aoe markers on the ground don't signify the actual aoe getting triggered... need to watch the cast bars on the bosses for that. If you are out before the cast bar reaches 75-90% you will likely dodge everything - in case of extra latency call it 50%.
Once I started doing that titan hm kinda became a sleep fest and I once healed it with some really bad lag spikes like 20s fine then 5s full freeze. Was one of the few people that didn't die by the end. But yeah I remember the first month or so of titan hm... kept dying to stuff all the time - usually survived post heart and then died in the first few aoes...
Hints are great and stuff, but they really shouldn't be needed. The latency from Europe is noticeable (UK is like the only country that has decent delay out of Europe), requires European players to play better than American players, to have a better reaction time, and faster decision making. That should not be the case, and I am really looking forward to the EU datacenter.
Also I really pity OCE players, since their salvation is likely never going to happen. :/
I really, really wish there were servers for Australians. I try to compensate as much as I can for my lag issues but things like the Cutter's Cry Chimera are absurd. I can get the message now, run to the outer rim of the room, and still get hit by the eyes burn blue attack.
Its funny how theres still atleast one person being like " hey, i dont mind paying the full monthly fee for this game, with me having a ping of 150, while others have a perfectly fine ping."
In the end, it isnt even about dodging aoes, if you are used to it, the delay doesnt bother you, but yeah.. new and inexperienced players be like "fk this laggy sht game" because they dont know whats wrong.
being in Australia, moving recently from a NA to a JP server, even 110 pings are a godsend. Yes, still some niggles, CDs are clunky, some AOEs still tricky, but can clear so many AOEs I had no hope of dodging before.
I don't know why some people still flatly refuse to believe this issue exists.
This is my first forum post here, ever. I logged in only to say, thank you! I'm sorry that you've had to suffer from this too but I'm so glad to hear someone else understands my pain. I call the Chimera my character's arch nemesis. I didn't do duty roulette for a couple of weeks because I was so worried I'd get Cutter's Cry. When I decided to stop being a scaredy cat (pun intended) and got into the duty finder, guess which one was the first I got? Yeeeup. FML. Didn't dodge it one single time. I felt so guilty because I thought to myself "I hope the others can carry me through this".

In the end I didn't actually die but that was only because my HP was high enough that I didn't get one shotted, and thanks to the healer.
Can't wait for the EU server. The five or so days downtime will be worth it. I'll just play Terraria while I wait.
In a lot of cases, saw someone else mention it, it helps to run out and stop right in your tracks (perhaps turn a little) so the game will "register" where the heck you are. With a-hole Chimera though it doesn't work.
It wasn't a problem doing the Dhorme Chimera with my Bard for the relic quest, but that was because we did the snow slope cheaty thing. I won't do it with my poor Dragoon here until I see if it gets better with the EU server.
I'm considering moving to a JP server too to resolve the lag issue but the big one for Aussies, Tonberry, is perpetually full. Did you move to Tonberry or is there another JP server with a sizable English speaking population? Also, can you dodge the Cutter's Cry Chimera's Ram's Voice attack now?
Glorious Nordic Internet here. It was hardly an issue even during 2.0 and no issue at all after they changed the poll rate.
I believe that is because you're standing still to the server until you land.
False. Server updates your position every 0.2 seconds regardless of what you're doing.
Every time someone post requesting this. Bringing up the topic they push back 1 week!
Chocobo racing will not have lags anymore, whouhou
Well if you arent sensitive enough to notice latency or delay issues, that's good for you I guess. Not noticing does make it more enjoyable to play.
In addition to your ping that is. Also, it's more then 0.2 seconds. Closer to 0.4
You are a piece of work... you may have incredible internet but that's not the standard throughout Europe, just like it's not the standard throughout the US (...). Heck, there's lobbies here in the US trying to KEEP internet access in the 'stone age'. again...
I am happy that there will be real EU servers, but also afraid since there are NA players on the EU servers (I myself am a NA player), will we be forced to transfer servers if we are unable to play? It will be a sad thought since I have many friends on Odin, I wonder how it will affect the NA players as well.
