the recipes are being changed
They already have, so to say. Most dated equipment can be converted into Materia, however it can't have materia attached to it. It's a way for them to clear out old items and replace them with the new ones.
Smart really when you think about it, eventually the database will be clear of the dated items as they will have been converted.
I don't think they are removing it. It just means it won't have a spot for materia.
It just means an item that you made with old recipe, i don't think it's going away, but it's no good either to keep it because not meld-able.
They already stated awhile back that eventually the old recipes won't be valid. I believe I read they're aiming for 1.20, but could possibly be 1.21 to fully transition to new recipes. The equipment itself that's left in circulation won't go away, but as others stated, it's really only good for materia fodder from this point forward.
So basically, these items will be around as long as players allow (i.e. they don't NPC, trash, or convert them). Are they no longer being sold by NPCs or given as quest/leve rewards?
Either way, this is exciting news. Must be they have a whole lot of new gear in the works. :D
Q: since I'm looking at JP side bug report for 1.19, you guys having problem switching gear using pre-1.19 gear swap macro? JP side saying they have to redo all their macro to add the dated in front or it doesn't work anymore.
Just wanted to check.
I only got to play for 30min last night but seems like lots of bugs going on lol
You are correct, they'll still be around as long as people have the means to make them or hoard them.
I believe most of the gear now sold by NPCs is all 'new', and doesn't carry the 'dated' signature.
I haven't done any leves where gear rewards are offered; however, dated items are still the manufacturing points of local leves. I think part of this is because the new leve system still isn't fully in-place, and why we have no new leves yet. Whether this means dated gear rewards via battle leves will be available is up to someone else to answer.
And i'm not sure if you caught the post a few days ago, but for crafting changes alone (not including new items) you can see it's quite extensive:

In addition, the Lodestone synthesis recipes now contain everything from 1-60, and there's a lot of new stuff there as well.
Yup all gear macros with 'dated' in the new title must be re-done...
I believe all of them will be deleted at some point in time, the "Dated" is to allow a transition into the new meldable equipment until that time.
The recipes being changed didn't really effect the gear becoming dated, I think its this new coloring system that made it so our gear would have to outdated. Especially with colored pieces having different stats. I'm ok with it as long as I can wear that and turn it into materia.
Will I be able to repair "dated" gear and keep using it? I also noted all the stuff I had stored on my mules at OUTRAGEOUS prices, just to store it for future use all SOLD. I made a lot of gil but lost a lot of unique clothing while away. So in order to look unique I'll have to hoard what little I have left. Yet ANOTHER thing I liked about this new version of the game now gone. Someone more versed in Japanese culture than I said I should have never pointed out they were making it more female friendly...that it was BIG MISTAKE to say that! He (a Japanese man) said "we are not encouraged to attract females into our gaming experience. Forgive my saying but it--is--not--Japanese--way. That is what Miqo-te are for--so men may play as females--so other men have something pleasant to look upon, but we do not encourage young men to be--frivolous." I thought he was joking. I hope he was joking. I do not understand a culture that sells the used panties of young girls in vending machines for male pleasure, I must admit.
They are going the wrong direction so fast in this game it's mind boggling. Pretty soon they'll be encouraging us to call the characters "toons" too. It's like it's become this major ego struggle--the new developers trying to destroy EVERYTHING fresh, innovative and wonderful the ORIGINAL developers put into this game that made it so unique and exciting...just to dumb it down (and re-use as much as the old stuff from XI as possible...except the good stuff, like the AH of course.) I think they're in for a major blow once they expect people to pay for this mess.
And to think in my real life people call me Pollyanna.
