Been thinking about finally getting windows 10 installed. Tried searching the forums to see if anything came up but only thing coming up was house threads.
So is there anything to worry about, does it even matter for this game? Is it worth it? I don't really use this computer for anything other than this game at the moment...
*edit* ffs turns out its just a notice to reserve a copy. Why bug me to reserve something that's free and not released yet.

I upgraded this week to Windows 10 and the only problem was that I had to download Raptr Control Center again, because the older version was for Windows 8. As far as gameplay goes, there has really been no difference. Still holding around 60 FPS in Fates with a large amount of people. I run everything on max settings, so lower could provide higher FPS of course. You get DirectX 12 which has no effect on this game, but games being released it will.
As far as boot up times, I haven't really noticed a difference, but my computer has always booted fairly quick anyway. I enjoy the feel on Windows 10 a lot more than I did 8. Everything felt so clunky with Windows 8. -

I see, haven't really been keeping up with windows 10 at all. If there isn't really anything to gain yet then I'll just reserve it but install later so I don't forget. There are a few programs that it doesn't seem to support listed for me anyway.

I've had one crash since upgrading to 10 on ARR, and I get a strange audio glitch every couple days where the game kind of buzzes for a second then goes back to normal. So...nothing world ending, and in general, I find 10 to be an improvement.

My bootcamp into Window 10 issue got better overnight. Not fully sure why...
Steps I took:
- Installed Windows normally through the upgrade button, from Windows 7 - gaming FPS was horrible - 5-10 in all games I tried
- Installed DirectX 9 from an unzippable version because the normal install stops with 'not supported on Windows 10'.

- Shutdown system - gaming FPS was STILL horrible.
- Went over to OSX and installed an August 8 "security" update
- Went back into Windows 10. Over to:
Settings > System > About > Device Manager
Disabled the driver for my Mac monitor (scary) that was called "Generic PnP Monitor".
- I did this because it was reported as a bad driver that locked brightness to alway fully on, and I guessed that if it had that issue it might have other issues as well... - Shutdown the system without testing gaming again. Got up in the morning and on a whim, after making this post this morning, loaded up Guild Wars 2, FFXIV, and Wildstar. All now performed at very high FPS. Problem is solved, not sure which step above did it... :eek:

With the capturing of data by Microsoft, this can be reduced via the installation process (select advanced options and tailor as needed). Other things to keep in mind while upgrading to Windows 10 is if you have dual GPUs (for example, Intel and Nvidia), you may want to try checking in on the RTPM on both devices -- if one uses RTPM and the other doesn't, you may have trouble with the system recognizing the other device. I ran into this issue when I upgraded to Win10 last night.
Like others have mentioned though, if you don't have a strong reason for needing to upgrade, hold off until you need to.

I upgraded the first day it was available. I've had three minor issues, only two of which apply to FFXIV:
1) My launcher no longer saves my username, even when I check the box. Maybe this is a permissions issue, but it's pretty minor.
2) The Win+G keystroke that brings up 10's new game bar (which optionally handles game recording and screenshots) doesn't always work properly when I try to open it in FFXIV, but this seems to also be the case for just about every other application too, but if it was a feature you wanted to enjoy with the game: good luck.
3)This one is not related at all to FFXIV, but if you have an XBOX One you may have to go into the Microsoft store on your PC to upgrade the XBOX app in order to stream from your console to your computer. The version I started with was 5.x, and the version required was 7.x, so it was confusing for a while. -

Not sure if those tips are permanent or if microsoft could decide to re-enable some of them after a patch, but personally, i would worry less with microsoft and more with what potential hackers could do with all those data collecting functions built-in the OS itself. -

Thanks for replies, think I'll hold off for a while. Give it more time for bugs to iron out on it I guess. I'm pretty big on privacy though... Its starting to sound like I'm going to hate this new version of windows. Gonna make sure I double check this thread for the spying/advertisement advice before upgrading.
I do homework on this rig but its usually just simple papers. There are programs on here that I use very irregularly though that are listed as needing to be uninstalled before I can upgrade. Bugs me but I haven't checked to see if they have a new version out that is supported. -

Truth be told, Windows 10 isn't really an option you can refuse. Older versions of Windows will be phased out over the next few years and software will stop functioning on those OSes as they start to utilize new features of Windows.
Sure, you can go back and cling onto Windows XP for another ten years, but then it's squarely on you when things stop working and no one wants to provide tech support for you.
