Server Questions : Aoe kills me :(

Hey! So this is not a complaint but a question about servers.

I get out of Aoe's but I get hit by them. Is quite ridiculous how far i get out of them. I was on the other side of the room when a bomb exploded, but still died. I know you think is my fault but honestly I'm moving out of them. I played WoW and raided in TBC so I know not to stand in fire. Is lag.

Strangely I have perfect connection for everything else, like healing and dps. It's only the Aoe's and it's sad because it looks like I will have real problems to play this game the way i would like. Healer cannot die to bomb in copper mines :(.

So.. I am an American currently in Europe. So I choose US server to play with my kind :p. Is this the problem? Will it get better when I go home? Will a European server be a better option for me, I'm here for a while :(.

You can be on the other side of the room but if you have only just got out of the AoE, if the cast bar finished by the time you left it, it will make it look like you were out of it but in fact it is just animation delay combined with lag so it can look quite skewed. And yes you should probably be playing on the server closest to your location in this case EU.

There IS no server closer to her location seeing as currently all NA and EU servers are in the same place. Which is Montreal.

Currently both NA and EU servers are in Montreal, so switching to an EU server won't help one bit. But they're building one in Europe, expected to be operational before the end of this year.

Ahh ok, so it would be the same whatever server. I'd prefer a US one tbh, but maybe I move if they build one nearer to where I am.

And yes, I read about cast bars. Is hard for me to look at them while healing though, because my eyes need to be somewhere else. Is a shame the big red circle on the floor isn't a good indicator :p. I'll see if I can work around it somehow.

Oh right, well everything else still counts, animation delay and lag combined will kill people dead in their tracks. Try out WTFast OP it is a great tool for people that lag.

Hello \o yeah most skills hit you by the time cast bar ends not when the animation hits so it's good idea to get out before it fills, as soon as you see it filling, move.

But not all skills work like that. For Example, the bombs in titan HM don't show a AOE around them so there may be times when you think your out but you could still be in it and very rarely have I seen skills go off 1 second after the cast bar fills, the only time I can think of now was the T12 Raid black fire, when the cast bar filled a Black fire would appear beneath your feet 1 second after it's cast.

But all in all the main thing is moving out before the cast bar is done. You'll get the hang of it ;p

I don't want this to sound as advertisement, but try some "ping busters" like WTFast, even the free version cut my ping by about 30ms playing from EU, and it's quite noticeable, I have not got pushed from the Titan spire ever since.

I live in Delaware and have Verizon Fios. Fios routing to the Montreal server is just terrible. WTFast solved any lag issues i had. Love it.

It's a sad reality of how the stuff works due to innate delay + network latency. And the larger your ping is, the more misrepresented is the information on screen.
I generally have to dodge the precise millisecond the ground highlight shows on the ground or before 2/3 of the cast bar is filled, otherwise I'm most likely to get hit, even if there was like 1/4th of the cast bar left.
And my raw ping with the servers IP is between 100-150 ms usually.

Edit: By comparison, most MMO services with servers in Europe allow for constant below 60ms ping, usually is around 40-45ms, for me. (I'm in Europe/Romania)

My question is thus:
Does WTFast trigger the account security lockout?

As an Australian wanting to get my latency as low as possible, i have a WTFast sub, But ive never tried it in XIV because i worry that it'll be seen as logging in from a different location and thus triggering the password change.

Not if you use the one-time password feature...get either the free smartphone app or buy a physical token. As an added bonus you can set one crystal as a free teleport location.

This problem has been around since launch, if I remember correctly they said there's nothing they can do about it, the only way to make sure that the AoE doesn't hit you is to move away from the danger zone before the cast bar reaches 50%, if you move away after 50% it will hit you most of the time.

Try leathrix latency fix 3.03. Made my game more responsive.
Example, when shooting fire 1 dmg numbers appear same time when particle effect hits. Without the tool dmg numbers appeared 0,5 second before the particle effect hit

You are aware of the Focus Target feature right? So you can have the monsters health and cast bars to the side while you heal?

Eh. I can relate all too well, OP. :/ My game has been awful for more than a week now. Jerky stop-motion animation no matter where I am or what I'm doing - one moment things are moving, then everything freezes, then everyone who was on my screen is out of it. And this is pretty much constant. Get out of AoE, even before casting finishes, BAM I'm still hit by the thing. Press something on the hotbar, either by clicking or by keyboard - next thing I know is that I can't do the next step of my rotation, because the spell wasn't executed so it's not "unlocked".
Beyond ridiculous. And I really don't see how nothing can be done about this. When everything else works perfectly fine on a constant basis. When other companies can have proper connections to their proper servers.

I trigger the password change every other day, it's the other problem i have with this (fantastic lovely wonderful) game!

I wasn't sure if WTFast was a solution or an advert because I saw it plastered everywhere, but if it helps people then I think I'll try it out, I don't have anything to lose. Thanks for all your advice :)

Edit : Thanks Matthias, I wasn't aware of that feature! I'll look it up. :)

If you haven't already I'd suggest downloading the software onetime pass word key if you can. That will keep you from triggering the password change when you change locations.
