Wow...that was crap.
Those guys have no idea what they are talking about. They don't know a thing about the game other than a passing glance at the website and the transcript of the Wada press conference.
They are so off-base, they are not even wrong.
And un-funny to boot.
ouch... :X They don't know what they are talking about though.
This is what happens when you give nerds with no personality a webisode.
Kind of hits the nail on the head. "Kind of".
all good points.. well except for the last one.
So many things wrong with that video....I know they are trying for cheap laughs but they all fell flat in every part.
It's not that they are bad points. It really just depends on what kind of MMO you favor, but one thing is true that everyone knows, the game needs to be fully redeveloped.. which it is.
The problem I have is they were trying to be funny about it and it wasn't even remotely amusing. Actually, to a point where I cringed in embarrassment for them.
Look at that Paul guys eyebrows...they're fcking gigantic.....
I thought it was kinda funny, but its just further proof over a year later no one takes FFXIV serious.
"need to get 7 other people to get maximum exp when they go to do a quest"
While I agree parties need to be easier to make, that statement above told me a lot about what they know.
They're like overgrown caterpillars...holy crap
This, and the fact that everyone who doesnt stalk lodestone will most likely think of the game similar to this episode or find information on it that outputs the same result as this episode, and the reason is simple: SE.
Cant blame them for pointing out the obvious!
Also, how can i buy back the time i spent watching this crap!
While I agree with you that they had no idea what they were talking about, I get the feeling that was the entire point. By the time the guy was recommending the game was small enough to fit on 1 floppy rather than 2 I though it was obvious there was nothing serious in the entire piece.
Now a thought, when was the last time a game cam on 1 floppy? If memory serves Dungeon Master from 1987 did, but soon after that games were 2 disks each.
If it ain't Jeremy Parish, Garnett Lee or Jerry Holkins talking, it's probably uninformed.
That being said, I can't really absolve SE for failing to promote the game post release, although I don't know what they could do really to be honest.
This should be a surprise to no one. PA has slowly gone from a simple webcomic to a corporation over the years. I think PAX literally went from a fan con to a full-on industry trade show (ala E3) in all of two or three years.
They just need more worthless content to bloat their website with, since writing funny and/or relevant comics is out of the question by now.
If you guys get enough of beating the nerd rage drum and dancing around the fire. I would recomend checking out extra credits if you have never seen it before. really good stuff.
Wow, that was absolutely awful. Only thing they mentioned that's actually true: Materia, Chocobos and Airships are being added. Everything else was just the usual "it's cool to shit on FFXIV" bandwagon bullshit.
If SE were to advertise the new and improved game once it is finished, I know for certain that it has a better chance. That point will be when the PS3 version is released, they can advertise a double-whammy!
I'm not even just talking about the FF XIV bit. The entire thing was complete rubbish. It felt forced and fake, they have no personality and it wasn't funny.
did anyone watch it till the end?
"have an episode with sephiroth"
"why because everyone loves sethy?"
"no so we can kick that asshole right in the balls like he deserves"
pure legend!!!
the rest was total white wash though, SE should sue them for it lol
Paul has 3 PS3s.
They're attacking our game! GET 'EM!
Wait, they made a valid point about the fact that just now, over a year after release, 6 years of total development time, they're adding Chocobos, Airships, and other series mainstays to the game; you know, things that should have been there at the start of development, and available at launch. Also, to my knowledge, the issue of how to form groups with people quickly and painlessly still hasn't been addressed, which was also pointed out. Also, level ranges.
So yes, while the show was lame as shit, valid points were made, but all we seem able to do is look at it and go "MY FINAL FANTASIES! q_q"
Am I the only one who saw any value in what they said?
The fact that nobody takes the game seriously, or that people are making fun for things that have only just recently been fixed is a testament to how poorly SE has handled the development of this game. It's been a year since this game's release and it's still only like 25% of the way to being a palatable game; and it's the butt of every joke in MMO gaming.
EDIT:
Whoops, never mind.
*brohoof*
Well, thats not what its about.. They had an entire year to comment on that shit, and honestly, I thought we were over this. Almost every review mentions this stuff, and it just so happens that they are going to shit talk a game right before it gets fixed, whether its an honest review or not, if they knew the game was still getting fixed, why be a d-bag and review it before a major overhaul? Oh wait, its because they ARE d-bags!
These video games sites just get a kick out of slamming the game right before major updates.
I still don't understand why people are still getting their panties in a twist about sites saying negative things about the game.
It's not their fault, afterall. It's SE's fault for not communicating enough about the game in the west. If you're going to start getting mad at anyone, get mad at Square.
I think people are fully justified in being d-bags over this game after the pathetic damage control SE tried to pull, and the time and effort they spent reassuring us that they learned their lesson with FFXI and that they know how to make a good MMO. A lot of us are really sore about where our $80 and time investment went. Personally, I want to see this game become at least decent and I like Yoshida's direction so far (but not the slow crawl in that direction).
Besides, FFXI/FFXIV players should definitely not be talking about not being d-bags. Being a d-bag is actively encouraged on this forum when it's time to talk about making the game more user-friendly or talk about other MMOs (especially one popular MMO made by Blizzard).
Funny, but it's sad to see that all three of those tips could make the game drastically better >_>
I know what you are saying Wolfie, but in my context, d-bags are people that have never even touched the game and think they can review it. Not just that, they may have touched it, but they haven't experienced it. Even if they did spurt a few good comments here and there, and tried to balance out the bias, thats still d-baggy of them because they just don't have that experience, they just use their popularity and publicity to bring down a game that's considerably still in development.
It would be fair to claim that the game was shit to start with and that it is slowly making progress to being a great game, but to claim that they've had a long time to work on it and are barely implementing what should have been in the game from the beginning is only going back to square one. It would have better been said at the games release, and not right before a major overhaul.
I want this game to succeed as much as anyone would, so its only in respect that I point out that yes, some points have been made, but those points have been made over and over and over again since launch. Chocobos and Airships are released now, yes, it took long but here they are and they are here to stay. STFU about how long it took and focus on how we can make them better.
I actually registered and replied to that video on their forums, one of the guys from the video replied to my bit about "yeah we're just getting chocobos and airships a year later but only because they had to revise all of the battle and crafting systems while adding in new content". His reply was:
Quote:
I would argue that they should have done all that in, or before, the Beta. Not after release.
We were hard on the game, for sure, but it's difficult to take it seriously when eve Square admits they're embarrassed of it to the point of redoing the whole game:
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/09/28/sq...damaged-brand/
I don't think it was meant to be a serious review. This is like watching people get upset at Onion articles.
Those trolls aren't funny.
It wasn't a review and yeah some of the points weren't really serious but they defended them as you can see in my above post. They were just talking massive shit about the game and a lot of their "facts" are outdated. Sure it seems like they like to make fun of a lot of games in really unfunny way but the others seemed at least grounded in current reality.
See, that is where I am confused. SE having admitted embarrassment from the game doesn't mean you cant take the game seriously. In fact, it should be taken more seriously that its going through a drastic change, almost a complete overhaul. How is a complete overhaul of a game not serious?
What I mean is, why would they poke fun at FFXIV for the way it WAS, even if they know its going through these changes? Its like making fun of a transgender boy for acting girly, and then when she is a girl, she is constantly going to be reminded that she was a boy. People like that just need to be more open-minded.
