My only Issue with Heavensward

I will keep this simple and straight to the point.....I sincerely wished there were no caps on anything in game. I sincerely wish that content and gear were driven solely by effort even if some people would max out in gear within days. If those people unsubbed for months until new content came out.....so be it. I do not play FF14 to conquer new content within the first day which is a small part of the game. I play for the ambiance, music, environment and above all else in a MMO....community. I will still play FF14 even if I do not agree on this one game design because I do not like to quit.....but it still doesnt make me enjoy them limiting what one player can do based solely on retaining subscriptions or preventing a group of players beating content from day one. If people want to play that way.....let them, they pay for it so they should be able to play in that method if they so choose. I am a casual to a progressive type of player....please SE, stop limiting players of they can accomplish in game to retain numbers.....create content which you have thus far that keeps people coming back to the game not because of being forced to do some daily or required weekly run...but because of the quality we have all seen you put out with Heavensward.

I already know a few are going to say its fine the way it is, or that maybe FF14 is not for me, or something around those lines. I understand what your saying even before you type it out.....but please save time for both of us and only post if its something other than those reasons.

To address the first part I quoted, this is exactly why they gate it. Imagine you are the one making money off the game. Would you rather people pay subs to, you know, pay -you-? Or would you be fine with not making any money off someone and say "Well at least they razed it to the ground before they left. They put a lot of effort into doing it all so it's fair and now they got to do it all and don't have to pay me."?

I'm not a huge fan of the tomes system, I'd much prefer getting entry lvl gear from them (like how law worked) and then more, longer, harder raids to get drops from.

Just having Alex to work seems a little thin,

To OP, you are just asking for negative reactions by just posting this in the first place.

so... if i am reading correctly you would like no caps in the game with 15 min queue or less for DPS on DF and quality content? <- this is a pipe dream

The content takes time to create and test
To keep the queue down SE need people to be playing the content so... if a large part of the player base gets all there drops for a set batch of content in the 1st week then on week 2 the queue on DF goes from 15 min to 1hr making the content unplayable to the rest of the player base
SE solution to this to slow peoples progress though the content.

I think the fix they need without messing with their setup is that they should do job specific tomes that have a cap based on the current job instead of the account. This is a game where you can be many different things on a whim--more or less--however they limit that ability with tome caps. Because if you want to have a DPS and a healer class leveled, just to get Eso weapons for them you will have to spend 5 weeks. Legs and Body pieces that is another 4 weeks, by this time we have moved on to the next big patch and new, better gear is obtainable.


That is the problem with the game. It promotes "you can do anything" but then crutches you when you want to hold them up to that offer. The problem they run into is that if they just uncap everything then people will clear the content in a matter of days and unsub their accounts until the next big update. So how do they fix it to be true to their promise while making sure they can capitalize on subscriptions? A simple solution would be merely to add qualifiers to the Tomestones. For Example:

Esoteric Tomestones of Combat
Esoteric Tomestones of Fending
Esoteric Tomestones of Healing
Esoteric Tomestones of Magic

Law Tomestones of Combat
Law Tomestones of Fending
Law Tomestones of Healing
Law Tomestones of Magic

Depending on which job you are set depends on the type of the Tomestone you get. If they really wanted they could get into even more detail and base the Tomestone type on the current job and have one for each. From a logical standpoint it would make sense since a tome is something that contains information, the stone merely states the tome is on a slab or slabs of stone instead of paper. So basically it would translate to: "Stone slabs containing information based on the Laws of Magic" or "Stone slabs containing information based on the Esoterics of Combat". Makes sense to me and would ease the restrictions while keeping people playing. The only problem that I would foresee is the comment "It would create too much strain on the servers"--a somewhat BS response in this particular setup but I feel its one that would be used.

I knew the name sounded familiar. You are that doomsday poster. Nearly all of your posts are how FF14 is dying and how every single aspect of the game sucked and you are leaving and never coming back.

And judging from what someone else linked, you asked others not to complain about eso cap in another thread, and yet here you are doing the opposite.

Do you really like to stir up drama so much?

I find it very funny that so many people are in a rush to down Alex Savage as fast as possible with it being out less than 2 days....seriously. If you clearly look at the design in which SE and YoshiP are taking with FF14......Savage is clearly designed to appease the Hardcore players in the game while normal is for casuals and progressives. Noone to my knowledge has cleared A3 yet and I hope that noone does for a while. I respect any hardcore raiding FC who does these things and thats what drives them and if you are in one of these FCs.....good for you. Enjoy the game for what it is....stop complaining about the Esoterics cap....stop complaining on trying to get SE to nerf the DPS needed if your not that good at the job you are on or go play something else. There was nothing out of context. The parts I removed were literally not relevant to your topic which is about the Esoterics cap, and not about Alexander Savage. Regardless if I left everything intact, the same words are still there; "stop complaining about the Esoterics cap." :)

But I digress, there is little point in abolishing the weekly cap for current gear. Unless, of course, you have a reason other than wanting it for bragging rights. That's entirely up to you. As I've said before, the Law gear is enough for current non-hardcore content. Since, as you put it;

why do people throw a fit because they can't have all there jobs in "ilvl 200" in a month or ideally less then so they can complain there is not enough content available and end up unsubing for 2 months while the rest of us suffer with longer queues in DF and alot of people will only play 1 job for most of the time.

What I would like to know is why does se forget about the middle people? What I mean by middle people are the people who think Alex normal is way to easy and for one reason or another they can't do Alex savage. Time in and time out se always groups us middle people in with the casuals and beginners while they leave the HC to themselves in there own little group. I'm not saying that Alex savage is to hard for me or that i don't want to do it. It's very much the opposite. If I could get a group I would do Alex savage but on my server it's very difficult to get one if you haven't done it already. Please SE stop putting us middle people in with the beginners and casuals and make endgame content that's between beginners content and HC full pt required content. With that said I don't think there is a problem with the caps as they are now.

Hell no. Tomes are so much better than having to run a dungeon 50+ times to get one drop. At least this way you're certain to be rewarded for your time and effort.

I don't know why there is all these complaints about the cap, I actually remember reading that the only new gear to be released in 3.1 is the 24 man gear and we won't have a new tomestone until 3.2 so it will be the best ilvl for sometime. We get a big patch (3.1 > 3.2 > 3.3 > 3.4 > 3.5) every two and a half months if you want to follow how it was in the previous years. Now that being said broken down into weeks we have 10 weeks between patches. We won't be able to get new set of Tomes until 3.2 (20 weeks from the expansion launch) however Eso tomes did not come out till 4 weeks into the expansion, meaning we have 16 weeks to gear up till the next Tome set arrives. It will take you 3 weeks for a weapon, 2 weeks for a body, 2 weeks for a pair of pants, 1 week for everything else (9 items); translating into you will ONLY be able to max out ONE job until the next expansion arrives if you don't have a group or care to do the Savage Alexander mode. Coincidence? I don't think so.


Square-Enix did this on purpose to keep us playing longer and to keep us from unsubbing our accounts as A LOT of people (even people who don't do Savage/Extreme everything) just like to gear up our jobs and goof around in the game with friends. Now they have also delivered the promise of "You can do everything with just one character!" HOWEVER, that is clearly not the case; it should read "You can do one of everything with just one character!" (ie: 1 craft, one gather, one combat) as it stands now its really hard (not to mention impossible) to gear up multiple jobs using tomes before the tomes become outdated.

Again, the easy fix would be give qualifiers to the tomes wherein depending on the job you are playing depends on the type of tome you get, and those types of tomes can only be used for said corresponding jobs.

ie:
Eso Tomes of Magic can only be used for Black Mage and Summoner
Eso Tomes of Ranged Combat can only be used for Machinist and Bard
Eso Tomes of Fending can only be used for Dark Knight, Paladin, and Warrior
Eso Tomes of Melee Combat can only be used for Dragoon, Monk, and Ninja
Eso Tomes of Healing can only be use for Astrologian, White Mage, and Scholar

This would also help remove inexperienced players from harder content as they would not be able to play healer to gear up a tank then jump into a tanking endgame group knowing very little or having very little experience with the job save for leveling it up in fates/low level dungeons. The same 450 cap could be applied, but this would allow those people who want to play more...play more and gear up multiple jobs while not hindering those players who cannot commit as much time.

kinda hard for anyone who knows about all of your posts to forget how bad the majority of them were. what most likely sealed the coffin on your credibility was the thread you made saying you farmed fates for 9 days and did something like 2k fates, got no atma from them, AND you had proof in a spread sheet, AND you said you would post said proof. you never did. setting that to the side tho, adam has shown that you contradict yourself, within the same day! if you expected anyone to just come and agree with everything you are saying regardless of your "history" you are nothing but deluded.

its not a bad idea in theory, but people would still be stuck gearing only one job, as esoteric gear is job specific.

1. Community forums gather positive and negative feedback, if you are saying that you don't want people to give you negative feedback, the weight of your post is next to 0.
2. I too sometimes wish for MMO without caps, but then I realise that most people would stop playing that MMO in 1 month and I might follow them the next month. Developers will be never able to create content faster than players are able to clear it without caps and grind. The reason why you play single player RPG for 50 - 100 hours (and now we call these RPGs long, some of them take only 10 hours or so) and MMO for 2000+ are caps and grind and yeah.. raids.

So yeah I can kinda relate to your wish but after a few minutes of thinking I believe it is impossible. The other way is MMO built by players and randomization of instances, mobs etc.. but from what I have seen so far, it always failed.

What is with the commonality between the most consistently terrible threads and ellipse misuse? Is there a connection between having terrible ideas and terrible command of English written expression?

I can see the reason for caps from the dev side, but no real reason for it to be daily/weekly - monthly would make it far more flexible for players, and no reason for doing all then unsubbing.

You do have to consider that Esoterics can only be obtained with a level capped job. The current set-up allows you to gear up other jobs instead of restricting you to one type, and is far more convenient. If this were needed to be implemented, penalties to the amounts of Esoterics you receive per completion of dungeons would need to be significantly reduced; about less than half of the current rewards for completion would suffice, due to being able to obtain more than our current weekly cap. Otherwise, it does sound nice on paper. In practice? It might be a hassle.

If you are playing on DRG and complete a dungeon you would only get Eso Tomes of Melee Combat and if you were playing on AST you would only get Eso Tomes of Healing, etc etc. Roulette would base the bonus Eso Tomes on which ever job you were on when you queued for the roulette. It wouldn't really be restrictive in any sense besides "If you want to gear up a tank you have to play a tank". Which in turn will only help the community since it would rule out people who play a tank to gear a healer then jump into harder content as the healer with not as much endgame experience as say someone who geared up a healer as a healer. Because sadly some bad players are a result of this. They lack the literal time playing said job because they have geared it up using another job altogether.

I should also note that the Tomes cannot be combined; like I mentioned earlier in one of my first posts that Eso Tomes of Melee Combat would only be able to be used on DRG, NIN, or MNK gear, while Eso Tomes of Healing would only be able to be used on AST, WHM, or SCH gear. So reducing the amount earned doesn't make much sense it would still take 16 weeks to fully gear up a job however with a setup like this players would be able to gear up to 5 jobs completely in the 16 weeks vs the current 80 weeks to gear up 5 jobs (the system we have now). Do keep in mind that means that you have have to run a EX dungeon 12 times to cap ONE type of Tome (roughly 6-8 hours of play time). If you are gearing up 5 jobs then you have to run those dungeons 60 times a week (roughly 30 hours of play time a week << this is a HARDCORE player as many people with management jobs + families don't have 30 hours of free time available a week). So people obtaining a goal like that will be slim; however, it will allow most people to gear up at least two jobs using Tomes under this new proposed method.

So in short: on paper and in practice it would make sense. ;-)

what adam means is that with your setup, people would be limited if they dont have certain roles leveled up. case in point; say i wanted to gear up my healer, but i dont have it lvl 60. under the current system, i can get gear for something i dont have max lvl while still lvling it up, so long as i have any other job at 60. in yours, i am SOL unless i have the job at 60, and then there are the time constraints with getting tomes for the roles i would/do have at 60. people would burn out faster.

EDIT; also, remember, while ninja is a melee job, its gear is dex, so it would be possible to abuse your system for the accesories by having brd/mch at 60 and nin. use the melee tomes for left side, and the range tomes for right.

By having mutiple tomes with entirely separate caps, you're essentially allowing players to obtain a total of 1,800 Tomestones of Esoterics every week. Our current weekly cap is only 450 Esoterics tomes. Your suggestion quadruples this weekly cap, and as such, is imbalanced. To counter this, you would need to either implement a hard global cap on all the tomes collectively, or significantly reduce the amount of Esoterics awarded per completion.

Again, nice on paper, imbalanced in practice.

From what I understand is OP don't like to wait and want to rush everything, Well keep it up....
