Is there any way to filter the Duty Finder to not group you with people who just want to rush through the dungeon?
Not really. Problem is, rushing is left to player's choice. It's mostly 50/50. Some people still take the time to clear everything and others don't. I'd suggest to find some friends who are willing to do so. Otherwise there is no way :(
When it's your 354362346th run... yea you wanna rush it asap lol.
Like Kit-Kat said, when people have done the same dungeon over and over and over, people just wanna get it over with.
Some new players are happy to advance faster as some wanna speed-lvl through it all.
But left are those that wanna enjoy the dungeons.
When I see that someone's new in a dungeon I usually take detours so the new ones can get the dungeon explored achivement as I know most groups would not do that. Had plenty of ppl that didn't get the achivement due to just that. It is kinda sad that new players are robbed of the whole "ooooo, neet" experience when doing a dungeon/story dungeon, especially when missing alot of Cutscenes due to speedrunning. Sure one can watch it later in an Inn, but the feeling of the moment is gone by then.
Use the party finder of members of your FC.
Welcome to the FFXIV community. There are those of us who enjoy the game and playing it, and then there are those of us who want to get every run done so that they can move onto getting the next run done quickly. I find that it's more than often the tanks and healers who are used to instant ques that tend to be in the bigger rush. DPS like me who have 15 minute ques at minimum unless we get lucky tend to be more willing to just run it at whatever pace the party is comfortable with since it beats sitting around waiting for the dungeon. Of course, this is hardly true for every player in each category, and there are a few runs that I'm so tired of doing that I just want to rush through, (Satasha, Brayflox, and Sohm Al being the main ones), but even then I don't push for the party to do more than what it's capable of and just let the skills of the party as a whole decide the pace. Even when running with a bad group in a particularly bad run, I don't start complaining to them to rush more, or pull bosses on my own to make it go quicker......
You're on balmung, did you need help with a story dungeon?
Wow, thanks for all of the replies. I'm usually a single-player game player, so just I don't really understand why people are playing a game they've become so bored of they just want to rush through it. Just they idea of a 354362346th (divide by exaggeration) run doesn't seem like a game anymore, it seems like something I should be paid to do, not the other way around.
Thanks for the offer Shougun, but I was just using the Duty Finder and got Tam-Tara Deepcroft. It's one I've done a few times already and just wanted the EXP. The way the tank was running it left me feeling like Clicker Heroes is a more immersive experience. He didn't wait for the other damage dealer to finish the cutscene and both him and I were locked out of the boss fight. I feel like next time just sitting my character down on the ground at the beginning of the dungeon and saying "Hey, let me know when we're finished".
Personally, I hate the duty finder and party finder alike. One is like playing russian roulette, the other feels like I'm a politician trying to get votes through any means possible. When I'm looking to run a dungeon or trial I follow this order. A- Ask every single person I know if they want to run x with me. (Often this is all it takes) B- I (and my friends) ask around FC's and Linkshells. C-I place a party finder ad, and try to be as concise about it as possible. D- Assuming all of the above has failed then I begrudgingly queue up in the duty finder and roll with the punches. When you play at 3am on a mostly NA datacenter you can expect dps waits as long as 4+ hours. It's better to make some friends and not treat every one like bots.
Hey, I dunno if there is any real solution, but I agree with you.
I'm an aspiring tank who hates being pressured by DPS or healers to do speed runs.
Fortunately, I haven't seen any of that since it's the new expansion now but I really don't have fun speeding through things. Even if I have already done it twenty times or more.
I play games to relax, not feel more stressed out.
its not just the amount of times, its also the challange,. me and my friends take more risks than when i go in DF. one example, in nerevear i like to run around colect all mobs even if that means i get tornado or such, i jump around and it's fun actually. give more trouble for my healer friend lol. then get all mobs somewhere safe etc and aoe them, i dont call it a rush really, it's just a boring repatative dungen and if u do it the slow and easy way there is little challange. also on boss, if i see opportunity i go deliverance ( dps stance ).
on the other hand in duty finder random people i tend to be more carefull. i normally test the water and see what healer is capable of, and if he looks pro i do the same as with my healer friend. but i also consider the gear and job types of what people have.
Hang in there, the world needs more tanks. Usually I find most everyone agreeable to going at a moderate pace, so long as you're polite about it. Something like "I'm an old fashioned tank, I'd prefer to take monsters one group at a time if everyone is ok with it" works pretty well in my experience.
I don't think I have ever seen someone tell the tank to go faster. Even though sometimes I do think to myself that they should go faster (pick up more mobs) because I am twiddling thumbs healing them, and I don't like to DPS on trash. But I would never tell them, they either notice that the 1-group pull is no challenge, or they will keep their own pace which is perfectly fine.
On the other hand I have seen several tanks ask whether people want a full clear, and if someone wants it, others are fine with it in my experience.
So I'd suggest asking at the start of the dungeon whether a full clear should be done, and I am fairly certain most people won't have a problem with it.
Communication is a key, when you don't say anything, people will assume that you don't care and just go as fast as they are comfortable with.
I've had lots of healers tell me to pull more when I'm doing leveling dungeons. And, I mean, it doesn't bother me, I'll do it (other day I was doing 2-3 pulls at a time in Tam-Tara at a healer's behest. Was. . . interesting, given I was on an alt character leveling with a friend, was right at level for it and not well geared, and there's the lack of enmity generating tools at that level. Kinda fun, though, and it was quick). Although it does bug me when instead of asking me to pull more they just run ahead and grab stuff to bring back when I'm not expecting it. That tends to cause wipes as I try to deal with cooldowns to stay alive as the healer ran off, and generating enmity on the second pack he just brought.
But I agree with your overall point. Communication is key. Ask if you want it slow. Ask if you want it fast. Most people, if asked, are okay with basically whatever, so long as they can stay alive while doing it. It's just one run.
Single player game player, MMO, why?
To me, as a player playing tank and healer on this expansion, and also DPS class on the original game, speedruns are usually more fun for every class.
As a tank, I have to avoid areas of a bunch of mobs while I put them in a nice position for the DPSs
As a healer, I get the chance to play the game. I mean, in a lot of dungeons, as SCholar, you can just autofollow a tank and let Eos do the job if you just want to heal and won't DPS... And even if you have to heal, spam cure/phisics is always more than enought.
As a meele DPS it can be a bit dangerous and hard, and that's usually fun.
As a caster, it means that you get to use all your AOE skills and get a ridiculous damage done. That's usually fun.
If you go group by group, instead... As a tank you probably are just in front of the mobs avoiding an attack from time to time.
As a healer you can DPS. Is the less boring job to do when you are in a slow run.
As a DPS... just doing your rotation.
So... speedrun = fast & fun
Slow run = slow & boring.
Add to that that you'll need to do those dungeons a bunch of times and...
I woud really love if they woud add an option to the Duty finder to select "Speedrun" , but if they do new DPS players will have to wait for weeks to complete their main quest.
ya i too have been locked out. but i just got the game and i'm enjoying the narrative. I believe I still got to roll on loot so I wasn't too upset not being part of the fight.
I don't think the issue is the killing of trash mobs. The real issue is not waiting 30sec to pull the boss so that people can watch the cutscene on their first run. Thats kinda all thats being ask in the "slow run" i think.
I'm sorry you had to deal with that, whenever I enter into a dungeon I prefer going by the pace everyone else is comfortable with. If someone is new, I prefer to not rush as I would rather not have them feel overwhelmed. Everyone was new once after all.
Not all of us are a bunch of ADHD-addled kids with the attention span of a flea or X-Games skateboarding rejects looking for a jolt of adrenaline. I couldn't care less about people like you and your desires to break some imaginary World Record in dungeons (Hint: Guinness isn't recording any for FFXIV).
Stressing people out in a dungeon is about as far from the definition of fun as it gets. Chill out and stop acting like you need to get through places in 5 minutes.
A tank is doing their job best if they are completing a dungeon at the pace expected of them by their party. Because people repeat content for various reasons, many, many times over, odds are much higher that a group is going to be full of people repeating, than it will have people who are new to the dungeon. Even when you get the message saying someone is new to a dungeon, about half the time that person isn't really new at all, but instead leveling an alternate character.
So, if no one says anything, a tank is most likely to be correct if they assume that folks just want to plow through the dungeon quickly. Some tanks make a point of asking whether anyone's new and wants a more casual dungeon run, but such tanks are pretty rare. Most will assume "fast run" unless someone speaks up.
So, speak up! Ask the party to take it slow, and to kill everything for the exp. There's no shame in doing it, and in almost every case the tank and party will be happy (or at least tolerant enough) to go along with it. If you do run into an intolerant party (I never have, but I'm sure it must be possible), you still have a choice. You can shrug and go along with it, or you can exit the dungeon. Exiting does incur a 30-minute penalty during which you can't requeue for the dungeon, but if it's important enough to you that should be a small price to pay. You can spend the time running FATEs, crafting, gathering or any of the other enormous variety of options the game provides.
There's also the option of Party Finder. This allows you to specify the type of run you want. Such a party will likely take longer to fill up, but when it does you'll know for sure that the party members will be sympathetic to your needs.
The advantage of Duty Finder is that it matches you with a party fast. The disadvantage is that it matches people of all kinds together - new players, old players, good players, bad players, casual players, hardcore players. You don't have any choice in who you are matched with. A tank sets the pace of the run, and if there is no communication, they have to guess at what folks are hoping for. Nine times out of ten, what folks are hoping for is, "God, I've done this dungeon so many times my brain hurts just thinking about it; let's just get it over with so I can get my Tomestones of the day and get out".
I play healer and dps and it is the tanks choice (not that as healer i will spam psych up to give them a hint that i am alt-tabing from boredom). Trash in mmos are the worst since the fun comes more form bosses and glaming then kill this lizard guy for 1X10to10000 time. Notice that you are 39ish make sure to PF for the last two dungeons of the OG storyline. No one will wait let alone should have to wait in DF, jus the way it is (and the only dung with major people playing ahead problems.). The rest of the game just watch the cut scenes make sure people understand it is your first run and you want to play it like one. you will learn in time thou that replaying dungs to level alt classes is the best way to do it.
well its DUUUUUTY FIIIIINDER! <----
------->You met random people!<---------- >_>
If I have people want to rush, and dont even care ask the party, in a dungen -> I dont care -
Not spam healing or tanking additional stuff some1 picked cuz of these so called "speed" runs! (I H-A-T-E them!!!!!!!)
They can do this respectless issue with friends or people met by there Party finder! <.<
I really really hope SE boost enemys there damage output in dungeons more so 2 groups of mobs is already to much!
Or add effeckts: "More enemys active/got pulled = stats buff for all enemys x amount of them"
Speedruns were common practice in 2.0 just like how it's becoming now, people are outgearing the dungeons and are just walking over them for the most part, it will get even worse once people get more geared from estorics. You should view this as a positive thing, getting you're run done quicker gets you done/capped faster, and once it's been your 1 thousandth time in the dungeon, you will see why the tank decided to speed things up.
If dps is good a tank can usually make the call if he feels like getting the run over with, whether you approve of him speeding up or not.
That's just silly. It's the job of SE to cater to different types of customers. You're just showing your bias toward treating games as some kind of race, instead of enjoying the journey. I'm not saying you're wrong for wanting to race to the "end", only that SE or any company should work to match like minded people instead of forcing people to suffer the whims of the incompatible.
I'm giving you advice to help you enjoy your play style. Did I say anything about ... race? There's 7955977765 players, each with their own play style. Should SE cater to them all and have that much df option ? For example in your case who gonna decide what is fast or slow ? The right speed for you is slow for me, but what if it's still fast for another random people you can meet in df ? Like they enjoy killing 1 trash mob in 5 mins?
Instead of asking for help, help yourself first.
You didn't have to say anything about a race. It was clear by your post. I'd help myself if I knew how. I currently can't choose who I end up with, so I was looking for suggestions. Your advise basically amounted to "screw you, deal with the brokenness, because I like it the way it is".
Light party duty have 4 people. If the majority is fine with it, you can chose to be not a part of it, no ? You are not a special snowflake in a mmo.
So again you have nothing useful to say. Thank you.
Some suggestions:
-You can make a party finder group (Not to be confused with the duty finder)
This way, you can make a comment in it saying how you would like the party to run (eg. slow and steady, newcomers, exploring etc) and wait for the party to fill before you go in.
-You can try find a Free Company that is willing to help new players, is full or new/casual players.
You are on Balmung so you certainly have the population to try ^^
Good luck!
Yeah, I thought if I ever wanted to try RP'ing that was the right place to be. Thanks to everyone who offered helpful advise.
