Parsers make you stupid

I play monk. Lately in A4 I am trash talked for being low in DPS. Notes for A4 say do not get close to others due to splash damage, that slows me down. Run away from the leg to get the giant flowing balls, one, two balls because I changed to Fists of Earth (oh no the monk is in fists of earth let's trash her), sometimes 3 balls or not oops I'm dead. Yet you, parsing tank are still on the leg wailing away. Then the dolls, oops gotta stop and go save the clerics cause you, the parser buddy of the tank have got to keep that DPS up for your parser. Then of course time for the ride down the tube. It's not about DPS it's about mechanics. Probably why we wipe.

Why not.. Make a cross server blacklist. Make a blacklist that works in the group. Make a mute function so people do not have to listen to being trashed.

I watched a video with Yoshi talking about parsers and saying "We are all adults here" well, NO we are not ALL adults. Even the adults aren't adults.

Parsers are nice, but give people tunnel vision. I used them in WoW forever. But I refuse to use them here. I enjoy this game for what it is.

Yoshida just needs to step up his game and exclude any third party software usage outside the game. As a PS4 player, I would have loved to have a Parser program to see how much dps I pull on a job specific class. Not only will I actually hit the dummy more often, but I will also learn how to maximize my dps to the full extend. I don't care about other people's dps, so basically I don't need to ''see'' their numbers. So Naoki Yoshida, if you actually CARE about your fans, please do the right thing and give us the option of a Parse program.

And those are the people you just ignore. Even if it weren't for parsers, people will find someone to blame for DPS being low, and it will obviously be among the 4 actual DPS.

On the positive side however, if you're running a parser, you can easily defend your case if you're actually keeping up in DPS. Parsers have their positive, and their negatives, it's about the person who's using it.

For example there are times in A1, on both Faust and Oppressor, I'm holding close to 900 DPS as a Drk. More often than not I'm either at the top of the chart (For the duration of my TP), or close to it. If things are dying when they should, idc if people are below me even if I'm a tank. If they're not, I'm going to tell the DPS that they need to step it up a bit, and if someone is low enough to where you'd expect them to still be level 50, I'm going to tell them that they need to step it up too. How you react to that depends on how things escalate from there on out.

God forbid you tell some people that they need to step their DPS up a bit, they act as if you just cursed their entire family.

While I agree that ragging on ANYONE'S damage in faceroll content like A4 normal is idiotic, the best DPS are able to put out good numbers WHILE handling mechanics.

Food for thought.

Someone just gave me grief in Fractal Continuum because his parser told him I wasn't putting out enough damage on my White Mage. -_-

I hate people sometimes.

You only need to stay away from the MT to avoid splash damage and the first attack in the last phase boss rotation (I forget what its called). You shouldnt be getting orbs as monk. You should shoulder tackle to the adds, it shoudnt lower your dps. You may loose your stacks comming out the tubes, but its possible to keep them if you time your attacks right. The between leg phases sometimes you cant help but loose your stacks.

Ultimatly your issue with the tank has nothing to do with parsers, they were simply a bad player, good players who use parsers will understand why someone might have lower/higer dps based on mechanics.

So much talk about parsers. Are we allowed to use them now?
I mean sure you can use them if you dont talk about it, but now I see parser this parser that on forums so im wondering if theres been a new rule?

Also, what a douche to comment on someones dps like that. I mean, if I noticed someone wasn't doing their job right, I would subtly imply that they miiight want to use other spells than ruin 1 (i hate summoners in dungeons :C)

Techically not, but as long as you don't go hating on other people because of their numbers, Squenix doesn't really care.

Firstly, taking orbs should be tank's duty. Tank can take 3,4 at the same time with CDs, and the rest will be share within party. Melee do not need to go out and take orbs unless it's right next to you, for that is dps lost. Even when you want to take orbs, as melee 2 orbs are the limit. If the party don't do the mechanic, they will wipe. let them wipe for a couple times they'll realize, if not, just go for another party.
I main mnk too, and I assure you MNKs will dominate the dps chart if you play it right. Don't let those who don't play the class drag you down. I see Parse as a tool to make a better player, not a thing to harass others players.

If you have a problem with them you can just report them and they get ban... so... yeah... its better for them just shut the F*** up.

Parsers are great IF you're in a serious static that wants to output the most DPS in a raid, or if you just like to see how much you can pump out.

People who use it to judge and berate others hurt my young soul and honestly you should just ignore them. If you know you're DPS is good enough for a raid and know the mechanics, then don't let it get to you.

Once in my Turn 8 party someone was using a parser on me and my best friend, and yelled at my friend because her DPS compared to mines was a tad bit lower.

Parsers are a diagnosis tool. You don't need one to see a bad DPS, but it adds confirmation.

Generally the only people who will publicly complain about low DPS in DF, without taking factors into account, are people with low skill trying to emulate the endgame progression community. If you get this in PF, you're kind of expected to know what you're doing.

That said, balls are not as huge of a DPS drop are you're making it out to be. While MNK suffers a bit in A4 from losing GL more often than comfortable it shouldn't be a huge gap either.

^this. Ignorance makes people stupid. Parsers are just a means for them to harass you. Take some screenshots and report those people for harassment.

To be frank, the only time anyone would complain about a DPS' inability to do damage is if a tank or healer bests them in damage for a fight.

First of all Parsers don't make you stupid, it helps to see what kind of damage you can deal and how to improve on maximizing your class so you don't suck at the game. if you can't maximize dps on a class while doing mechanics then you're most likely bad at the game too! Parsers don't make people stupid! A lot of people are already stupid to begin with. If people are against parsers on this game then they're most likely not willing to self improve and only shows how casual and bad the community is. second of all, why is the tank even shit talking you for in duty finder. Yes you shouldn't be getting out dpsed by a tank to begin with but if he is trash talking to you for no reason then he is most likely an immature individual who needs to grow up and get off his high horse. I out dps people all the time on my tanking classes, but I know for a fact that a lot of people on this game play for fun and there's no need to trash talk them. My 2 cents have been given <3

I've noticed, that a majority of people who really need improvement on their DPS numbers don't like to be told they are under-performing. Many will hide behind the fact that the content was still cleared, or they had such and such to deal with, but at the end of the day, its someone telling them that they can be better and really excel at their job and they're throwing the baby out with the bathwater and just getting offended at any kind of criticism it would seem.

I firmly believe, if there was a public in-game parser everyone could see, people would grow up quite fast and establish much more realistic and pragmatic views regarding their potential as DPS. Developing a thick skin is a life lesson.

They are not all bad, I personally don't use em but a few people I know do and we use it merely to gauge who needs to tweek their gear, rotation and such to get the most optimized performance, especially with savage now having a high mark to hit. However I admit, in the wrong hands they start to feel like god and just the mention of having one and connecting a poor performance to a name can almost be a death sentence to your existence in that group.

Definitely not true. A month or two before the expansion, someone was complaining about how I was doing 450 dps on my i118 geared bard in a farming dungeon while his monk buddy was doing like 550 in BiS gear. I was playing bard for fun, and we still finished the dungeon in like 16 minutes or something, so I'm not sure what the problem was.

Also, it's pretty easy for an offtank (especially warrior) to outdamage a melee in A4 if they just stay on the boss the whole time and make the melee handle all of the mechanics they should be handling.

If a monk was outdpsing a BRD in a dungeon, you were failing to AoE efficiently. That's complaint worthy.

Saying "playing for fun" is the most redundant and defeatest thing ever. Everyone plays for fun. Stop using "fun" as an excuse for being terrible.

Also, if an OT is within 100 dps (about how much they'd lose at most doing mechanics) in A4 of a MNK, then there is something very wrong with what the MNK is doing.

I am honestly having a hard time trying to figure out what in the world the OP is talking about and what it has to do with parsers.

Basically that some people using parsers stare themselves blind on those numbers and ignore mechanics cos "MOAR DEEPS!", and then rag on the people doing mechanics, sometimes the mechanics the tunnelvisioned people should be taking care of, for not having "good" dps numbers....

Having played several other games, two of which have widely available parsers(including the predominant one used here), this is *not* the case.

People will never "grow up quite fast" and "establish much more realistic and pragmatic views regarding their potential as DPS". They'll continue to bitch about parsers.

And numbers aren't everything. Nothing more annoying than that one wipe where the DPS that didn't follow mechanics died but still brags about his burst.

Or those folks thinking HPS > all.

Out of sight, out of mind, just play the game. If you DF a instance, remember where you are. If you don't like how others are playing, form your own party of heroes.

How to correctly use a parser in most situations:

1) Launch the parser and make sure it works.
2) Minimize the parser.
3) Focus on the fight.
4) Finish the fight.
5) Look at your numbers.

Everything else is for mashing on training dummies, I've never used a parser on this game in-particular but unless you're a confident multi-tasker this is generally what you should do.

People do this now...having an in game parser isn't going to change things. This is a fear based arguments to not allow in game parsers. A parser is literally only information, it is up to the people using that information to determine how it is being used.

pretty much, they're not that useful in DF... odds are you won't even see those people again anyways.

although, I do wish they were part of the stock UI.. or at least as ubiquitous as they are in WoW... the average dps player in WoW puts out numbers a lot closer to their theoretical max than the average dps player in ffxiv does, and i have to think that parsers being so prevalent has something to do with it.

I hated them in wow. They caused people to develop the most poisonous of attitudes. People got booted from heroic dungeons (not very hard) for not performing up to people's liking, even though things were dying (and in wow people don't pay attention to vote kicks and will blindly click them).

It made me so self conscious about myself that i had to download one just to know that i'm performing well.

I'm glad that they're not allowed here, but i wish it was more enforced. It's currently "if you have it, don't talk about it" but people talk about them all the time.

You should be self-conscious. This is a group activity. IRL, if you are on a team or at work and see that you are clearly under-performing compared to your colleagues, most human beings would attempt to better themselves so they don't feel the shame of letting the group down. Why can't this aspect of social behavior be extended to a game where you must socialize to succeed?

That depends on the pay scale

However, the only way to know for certain if you are doing well as a damage dealer is to have a good parser and a rotation guide. Over the years, a lot of us WoW vets developed a type of "common MMO sense" for doing damage because everyone used the same general combat system. New players who have never played an MMORPG before are left to the mercy of their gaming background. Some experiences will transfer well to a theme park MMORPG like FFXIV:ARR, while others don't hold up.

As long as damage dealer is a role and enrage mechanics are present, parsers will become indispensable tools for conquering hard content. There really is no way around it.

More and more people seem to be using them. I loathe them, to be honest - they bring the sort of toxicity into the game that I want to leave behind after encountering it in other MMO's.

Melees are still usually the highest DPS in A4. Git gud before you start trashing parsers. xD
But yeah, as a melee you should not be concerned with orbs.

EDIT. And it is completely fault of SE that people use parsers. When they put DPS checks into everything they must expect that people will need to know their DPS to actually dish out the weak parts of their parties.

I was talking about boss damage for the dungeon thing obviously. People actually parse trash and care about the damage? My just for fun comment was that BRD isn't my main job and I didn't have it in perfect gear like that monk did. Quit being condescending and assuming stuff, please.

Also, considering warriors can apparently put out 1100 dps on dummies (old video on youtube, I don't know what they can do now), I don't think it'd be hard for a warrior to do that on the last phase of A4 if they're just standing in one place and not helping with orbs or anything else.
