Can we get rid of the daily post limit?

Or at least allow them to accumulate over a week?

And while we are at it, the 1000 characters limit is one of the stupidest things I have ever seen on a forum.


Forums are made for discussions, communication, help, support, etc.!

I really have no idea whose "clever" idea these limitations were.

I was just about to make a thread about the 1k limit. That shit needs to go yesterday. It's so easy to circumvent it that the limitation is redundant.

I can't think of a game I've played where forum posting has been limited in this way. Maybe a time interval or a higher character limitation, but these standards FFXIV has had have just seemed a bit ridiculous to me.

Agreed and signed. 20 daily posts a day is way too low, either increase it by a lot or remove it. It makes conversation incredibility difficult whenever you run into the daily limit, then you have to wait who knows how many hours til you get one more post, and who knows how much the conversation has shifted til then.

As for the 1,000 character limit... All you have to do is edit your post to get more, so it's not that big a deal to me.

I don't think the database can handle such unrestricted high traffic.

Exactly, it's easy to circumvent, so everyone is circumventing it = it's completely useless and just an annoyance.

The 1,000 character limit is useless, yes.

But the 20 posts per day? I don't know... I find it quite useful actually. If someone can't make its point in 20 posts in a day, then it means that person failed at arguing and should probably stop writing for the day.
It's a forum, not an irc channel.

The case where someone wants to participate a lot in various subjects and subforums is quite low... or that person likes to get involved in everything for no reason.

So, yeah.... even if there are downsides to it, I quite like the upsides of that daily limit.

You only hit the daily limit once, and it was during a very active time where people were speaking about the early access codes and all that mess. Most of these messages were one to three sentence long only.

Check your message history and you'll see that, on average, you clearly don't answer "10+ threads in a day" in different threads.
Simple maths with your post count and your date of arrival on the forums also shows that.

So, please, don't overdramatize that "issue" you don't even have on a regular basis.

And no, I have not hit the limit once, I have hit it 3 times, last time yesterday. And will likely hit it today soon...

And I have NEVER said I answer 10+ threads on average. I am not here every day... But when I am here, I answer many threads. The thing is, I would love to answer more, but I CAN'T because I will get hit by the post limit.


It doesn't matter that I don't hit this limitation on a regular basis, it's still:
1) Annoying.
2) Useless.
3) Limiting the amount of threads I can participate in.
4) Did I say useless?

As for if they are good uses or not is only a subjective matter. For you, who seem to be liking getting involved in everything and posting some two sentences messages frequently, I'll make the assumption that theses uses cannot justify how annoyed you are (that was an easy assumption , I'll give you that), and you'll probably use another post from your daily limit to prove me how wrong I am.

Jfc I can't believe someone actually is in support of this. This fanbase will defend anything SE does, no matter how bad of an idea it actually is.

Trolls will always be there.
Spammers can easily get banned, and if this limit was for example changed to an hourly one, that would also work against spammers, while not hurting normal people.

I highly doubt that people who hit the post limit make a lot of short answers... Hence why one of my complaints is the 1000 character limit... This is not IRC/Twitter, there should not be a character limit. ;)

Yes, the threads will still exists, but they might be outdated already, hidden 10 pages back, derailed, etc... AND there might be new interesting topics I want to participate in.

Post number decrease is NOT a good thing! Never was, never will be. You NEED an active community for an MMO to survive really long. If the mods can't handle it, get more, easy as that.
Though I have participated in League of Legends General Discussion for years, there were no such limits, there were MORE people, more threads, more posts, and the mods still managed. So yeah...


I highly doubt they had good reasons. What I've heard the reason for the character limit was a heated discussion full of long posts a year or so back, so basically content you WANT on a forum, as long as it's not insulting and stuff.
That doesn't sound like a good reason. That sounds like an incredibly stupid reason.

It is useless. You found one debatable use - limiting spam. The rest is either moot, or just guesswork.
And of COURSE I limit my message length when it's not absolutely needed to make it long, because it's fucking ANNOYING to have to circumvent the 1000 char limit EVERY SINGLE TIME...

Because it's bad to discuss stuff in a forum called "General Discussion"... LOGIC PLS!
Also apparently it's better to have short posts which leads to misinterpretation, lack of info, and general annoyance!

Ban the spammers, remove the limits = everyone is happy.

There is also the issue of some issues getting bunches of threads going. Look at all the treads we recently had on BRD/MCH. Look at all the threads about the lag and disconnects.

It is not uncommon to have intense discussion in multiple threads...the post limit can stifle participation in such cases.

Honestly, im surprised they dont already have a monthly cash shop upgrade to post limits...

I doubt they'll lift it, in loving memory of NA forums' penchant for spamming topics.

The posting limit, and especially the limit for creating threads until reaching 25, are bad ideas for new players. When a new player has questions in a game that has relatively quiet chat channels, and that new person comes to the forum to post instead, it's frustrating not being able to ask questions in a thread. This only drives newer players toward third-party forums which don't have such silly restrictions.

Im sick of the post limit, and the character limit too. Get rid of it.

I DO care about having a healthy environment, but a dead environment is NOT healthy.

Also just because the general LoL community is toxic doesn't mean the forums are (or were, I have not been there for over a year).

Also I am not completely against some sort of limit. 20 per day though? That's an overkill and a half. Make it 20 per hour, or 20 per 4 hours, or something like that. Still hurts spammers, but doesn't hurt normal people.

One debatable use still makes it useless for those who don't agree with that use. Easy as that, really.


Other forums outside of GD are mostly dead, people won't waste their limits there, if you want something to be seen by many, you post in GD...

I'm not making a strawman argument here. Daily post limits do prevent big thread flood, do make moderation easier and do reduce the amount of overall bullsh*t. It's not my opinion and I'm not making that up, these are logical facts.
What I said was that these facts are beneficial in some way and that I wasn't sure that removing that limit would be better. Hell that was my first sentence about the subject "But the 20 posts per day? I don't know...".

It is annoying but it does limit the wall of texts people would be putting up if the did away with the character limit and the post count restrictions does cut down on trolling.
Sure people can edit and bypass it but usually dont because it's bothersome.

Every so often we do need to bypass the 1,000 character limit to explain something in detail but most of the times, no.

Both the limits are fine.

I don't post too frequently, but yesterday was patch day and a slow day at work, there were lots of people who made stupid threads so maybe I got a bit carried away and discovered there was a max post limit.

To me it's kind of odd to have this, but it's only effected me once, so no big.

It's generally used to prevent this sort of stuff which has been occurring lately.

As for the character limit - it's annoying, it's nothing but an unnecessary obstacle to overcome, and the fact that bypassing it is so extremely easy just makes it even more that. Nothing but a punishment for every single person who would actually want to go on discussing thing, helping out others, etc. It actually helps flood, when the new people don't know about the workaround and make 3-6 posts describing whatever their issue is, instead of posting it in one. Comparing these forums to the WoW forums, I can't agree with removing the 20 post limit. In the WoW GD forums, the useless threads completely outnumber the worthwhile, and it's sad. People post to troll, to be "first" posting in a thread, to "post in a epic thread" and forum threads often devolve into name calling and/or borderline ERP... it's just ridiculous. I think the daily post limit probably cuts down on the trash posts here, since folks need to think a bit and not waste their posting allowance.

I agree with the text limit being changed since it is easily avoidable, but I don't see what you are complaining about with the daily post limit. You are just raging to rage about that part of the debate lol.

...oh and for my opinion on the matter, no I don't think the post limit needs to be raised. Velisra above is totally right.
Take away the post limit and you will start to see hundreds of worthless one word answers to questions instead of people taking a bit of time to get their entire thought out in one post.

The post limit isn't some god sent gift, it really does ultimately limit the posts, good or "bad". There's ways to prevent spam (That doesn't amount to 20 posts per day), notice no one's complaining about the 5 minute time difference (I believe it's 5 minutes) in between posts, because that's actually a reasonable way to limit spam.

I can contradict it, I didn't have the time nor ability to due to being on the mobile version of the forums (Also something that really needs to be worked on, unless you want to defend that too), and due to this reply being over the 1000 character limit, wouldn't be possible. If you want to make assumptions and ignore the facts that the post limit is harmful to the idea of a forum, i.e. conversation.
Forums are going to get bad, even on this one, it's the inherent issue with any facility that's about people talking. Sh*tposters are gonna sh*tpost, it's how the internet works, try to find a forum that's 100% quality content strictly due to a post limit, and then I'll concede that there's benefits to it (Hint: This is not one of those forums). It will always limit the amount of actual good posts and conversation can make, which is a fault you're not accepting exists.

I'm so done with people jumping to SE's defense whenever you've yet to post something with a 100% conclusion. Stop acting like the post limit is a flawless thing and maybe your argument wouldn't seem like such a straw man. That's SE's fault for not listening to feedback, they've yet to give a solid reason on why they want to keep the daily limit (Or god forbid remove it for a week or so to test what happens) so they're in the wrong there. I read your entire argument and I agree with mostly all of it, however... the fact is the post limit does assist in troll prevention.

To be honest, I really don't care what they do. I just enjoy being on the forum and taking part in a few conversations like this one. Taking part in a few discussions and trying to play devils advocate, I sometimes hope that it will spark new conversations and help people understand the other side of the story. Even if that other side isn't something I even agree with, I still try to bring up all the points that I could see being valid.

So whatever makes you guys happy I'll +1 and hope for the best! =P
