Why people are rushing to exchange their Alex tokens?

AF2 i190 gear is less than a week away. Some of its pieces stats will be tailored for your main job and will be better than generic 1-for-all-healers or 1-for-all-tanks gear.
Why, having MP problems after a few expensive Raises on my WHM I'd rather wait AF2 head, gloves, belt with Piety than get Protoype piceses now (which have zero MP and I actually prefer Asuran with less defense and healing power just for extra Piety).
At the very least I'll wait to see AF2 stats before exchanging anything.

because savage raid is released next week so we need the gear, plus getting a full set of AF2 will likely take 1 1/2 months at 450 tomes / week so better get geared right now and change the gear later

Why would you hold onto the tokens. You do realize that Alexander (Savage) will drop a different set of gear? Although SE specified in the live letter that players will receive a token from Alex Savage. This token will likely be for different gear. Unless you are planning on using the tokens for alts then there really isn't any point in holding onto them at this point.

What your saying makes a lot of sense, but it doesnt make too much sense to hold onto them either as long as your getting good pieces with your main stats like crit or det.

Even if they come out with a better piece, i can spend the tokens/eso on other slots to get better bang for the buck.

It works both ways. If you're gearing up multiple jobs, I'd recommend saving your Alex tokens until 3.1. Why? Because you can compare the BiS items with two sets instead of one. You don't need the 190 for Alex normal, and it's not going to disappear either if you don't upgrade for the week.

You and your raid are playing poorly if you need piety on all of your gear as a whm. I've solo healed all of the available HW content except for A4 and haven't ever struggled for MP.

You're really doing a disservice to yourself by sacrificing so much throughput for so much unnecessary MP. Savage Alex *might* have such intense healing requirements as to require every piece to have Piety, but I highly doubt it. You only need Piety to a certain point, and after that it's a completely wasted stat.

i got 2 Cranks and i main healer, what else am i going to do with them? buy the Casting Gloves? what good does that do me?

having the Alex gloves means i can spend Esoterics on everything else.

Yeah, I don't see the point in hanging onto tokens that can only be used for one piece of gear. When I have 2 pedals, I can only turn those into a set of boots, there's no flexibility. What benefit is there to not just turning those in? My esoterics will get spent on other slots instead. Splitting Esoterics and Alex gear between multiple jobs, when both currencies have weekly caps, doesn't seem like a great idea either.

Why is the ilvl 190 gear even in the game? Is the intention that many players may not even be capable of completely the new raid and this lesser gear is an easier alternative? It seems weird to me to make so much gear irrelevant so quickly.

This is coming from past experiences with the first few expansions of WoW where the best gear at any given time was the best gear for 3-4 months at a time before a new season or a new raid came out. You also really needed earlier best gear to get the current best gear. You couldn't just go from level 60 dungeon greens to the best possible level 60 gear.

With the exception of the bolts for accessories each of the items require a different type of drop. I understand your logic but we don't currently know what ilvl the Alex (savage) or esoterics gear will be. They have specified that Alex gear will be higher ilvl than alex normal (possibly i200). If esoterics end of being ilvl190 with the possibily of an upgrade to i200 with loot drops from Alex savage (most likely scenario based on past history) then I still feel it would be better to get the items now so you can be as close to i190 when alex savage gets released

As is the Gordian leg & feet pieces are exceptionally good for tanks so those are my primary focus - the hand/head/body slots are less than exceptional and I will likely not have completed gathering items for those pieces by the time Esoteric tomes are released - those tarnished Gordian components are still valuable for alt classes potentially so I can see why people are trying to obtain their quota of items quickly.

Has it been stated just how the loot system will work in Savage?
Are we going to see tokens again, or items? Will it be AF all over again, where tanks need 3 different sets if they want to play different classes for different fights? Or 3 sets of healer gear.
If it is tokens, will it be a single token per item, but with a turn lockout as opposed to a loot lockout as we have now?

Anything at all?

Both. Two item drops per floor, plus one token to each person upon clearing. There's a weekly lockout for loot (including the token) but the floors can be re-entered if you've cleared. It does, however, impact the number of loot chests at the end as it used to in FCoB. I'm assuming it would be the same so 1-4 people would mean 1 chest and 5+ would mean none. I doubt it'll be 1 token = 1 item, but we don't have that info yet as far as I know.

@OP - what I'm doing is taking the Alex pieces that I like the stats on. The tank body, for example, is awful. The hands are pretty bad too. Whatever we're getting from Esoterics couldn't possibly be worse. So I'm focusing on feet, legs, and accessories. After that I'll start gearing up alt jobs cause what else am i gonna do with them tokens? :3

One bard, and Ballad is only used during transition phases such as bloody fuller or whatever the name of bismarck's is. There are currently no fights in the game where damage patterns are unpredictable and unavoidable damage is really high enough to warrant spamming high mp heals. A4 is the only fight out right now that actually requires two healers just due to how the mechanics of the fight work.

You only need as much piety as how bad your group is at avoiding AoE.

Different or multiple reasons...

1) To reach ilvl 190 faster.

2) Glamour use

3) Preparing for BiS.

4) two of the above reasons.

6) All of the above.

After all if the new tome gear weekly cap lock is low, the fastest way to get to ilvl 190 for more stats is by Alex Raid which a player can easily get 2 or 3 ilvl 190 gear in one week compared to the Weekly Tome gears being 0 or 1 gear per week.

By this a player can obtain 2 to 4 ilvl 190 gear in 1 week by getting both Alex gear and Esoteric gear.

Esoterics will probably have a weekly cap

You can get the whole set in 5 weeks assuming you planned accordingly and got the correct tokens. There's no reason to wait at all.

Well its an upgrade apart from law gear minus body for mch so why? Considering how long it takes to geta 2nd and 3rd 60.

You have progressed coils when it was fresh and everyone was at the lowest end of the item level?

I have and can tell you: piety is one of the most useful stats when starting in a fresh released raid.

The main reason: The HP of the party members are low at the beginning of the gear progression and the unaviodable damage hits hard. In Final Coil it was needed more than before to waste mana for overheal, because the whole party had to be on max life to have a good chance to survive the mechanic. Mostly full life wasn't enough, so there was a need on massive damage migitation too.

Actual Ex Primals and Alex Normal are a cake compared to what BCoB, SCoB and FCoB was in the early month.

After outgearing all of them got much easier. But that will not be the case next week.

For piety you should have a MCH or BRD and focus on actually critical stats for intensive healing. Piety is nice, and I agree in PUG situations it can be SUPER lucrative, but it falls flat to me when compared to increasing healing output.

All content at present is super easy to heal, even A4 that people tell me is a healer check... it's like "lmfao gurl I cleared this shit 22 times for my crank- there ain't nothing hard about healing this until someone does something silly."

And you really think they did not take these skills into their consideration during designing the fights?

After they already said the new skills where designed and balanced with the focus on Alex Savage?

I can only imagine the difference being that I'll have a second healer and that I'll dps less. The logic that they added mp regen/conservation tools to whm in order to fix their extreme piety dependance only to force them back into stacking entirely piety is, frankly, stupid.

But we'll see.
