Sup guys. I am leveling up my DRK and I actually want to get good at it so I do not create anymore trouble for the party (despite there needing to be some serious changes to some skills). That said, I will probably be doing more OT with some MT should the occasion come so I was wondering. For OT (or even both), are DRK's more STR dependant, VIT dependant, or both as in half and half or like a 60/40 ratio?

DRK = MT. When switching to OT position DRK bring no raid utility. If you want to OT I would suggest leveling warrior.
That being said... Even when MT most players prefer a mix of fending accessories. Typically a 3 slayer/ 2 fending setup is a good base. Swap for more hp as needed. You should never stack vit accessories. More HP is not always a good thing. You need enough hp to survive the big hits and a little wiggle room. After that put it all into STR -

What serious changes to skills, do not simply echo what you hear.
It doesn't matter which you do. MT is what a DRK would often 'prefer' toolkit wise unless the boss is physical oriented in which case if you are in a PLD/DRK the PLD would be the more potent MT.
Current Meta is just take full STR on everything. You can hybridize, or do Vit, hell you can Piety, it doesn't matter you'll fail current content based on execution. That being said if you want to maximize your damage output, and your threat (which you generally should want to...) Full str.
Outside of the meta on a general level drop in a couple fending pieces as you see fit if you're not at a level player wise to handle full str.

Get crafting up. Get melds. Done deal. If you have to do law accesories and dungeon accesories. Then make sure you're working with a base of at least 14k - 15k hp, assuming random healers. If you know them and their good healers on point, probably can go full slaying and sit at about 13k.

I am not echoing what I hear. I personally do believe that there should be some tweaks to a couple skills. Its my opinion though so it is normal for other people to disagree, but don't jump the gun and think I am echoing it lol.
These are good pointers. I am currently at 54, but its good to know all this because I do not want to be dungeon grinding and stuff with the wrong setup. -

If you're OTing and never at risk of taking more damage than your health allows, then go STR. If you're MTing you can either go VIT, mix and match of STR and VIT, or STR - all depends on how much HP you feel comfortable with having. DRK can MT or OT, they just currently suffer from a little bit of TP problems in both departments.

Now that Vit and Str scale equally with AP for tanks, there is no good reason a tank, either MT or OT, should be taking Str accessories. The marginal DPS increase you might hypothetically get from it is not worth the sacrificed HP, and as others have said on other threads, it is fully possible to have a full Fending set now with zero Parry (if you really want to avoid it that much, which might be advisable in the OT slot). In general, the concensus for these pieces is to slot Str materia into them, but that's mainly because they can't get any more Vit. You'll also want to be conscious of your Accuracy, since OT doesn't benefit from the tank stance Accuracy buff.
Also, DRK does have OT utility. In the absence of a MNK, they bring the Intellect debuff, and are one of the more capable tanks at grabbing adds. However, a group will benefit more from having the DRK in the MT slot, since they have the highest theoretical MT DPS of any of the tanks, and bring more utility that way (not to mention, DA+DM can counter some of the tankbusters in A8 better than any other tank can). -

Warrior is better OT/MT, Paladin is better MT depending on what your fighting.
Darks are kind of in a weird place because they don't do the DPS of a Warrior and their DPS is closer to Paladin which has much higher sustain. Clemency is sick now. -

DRK vs PLD as OT...
DRK
Pros:
DPS similar to WAR but not quite there.
Can also assist in minimum raid wide mitigation (Delirium...and can do this as MT anyway).
Cons:
Must manage MP well for max damage and picking up adds.
Must prepare for enough mana to swap and pull hate with Unleash against adds or PS main boss.
PLD
Pros:
Simple DPS rotation
Can mitigate raid wide high damage unaviodable hits with shields.
Can heal DPS members to prevent death in emergencies.
Cons:
Moderately high DPS.
Cannot RoH 1 time if you value max DPS numbers.
Must stop DPSing to prevent other DPS members from dying in emergencies. (Their DPS is more valuable than your own in team work situation).
I've been wanting to test PLD OT out in Sephirot EX and finally got the chance to do so. As well as DRK OT.
Both work well as an OT, just PLD has more utility and a support aspect. Your group will love you as PLD OT if you actually help them to not die with whatever CDs and clutch Celemcies you can pull off. -
