Will we ever see Ranger or Samurai?

I know I won't get a direct answer from Yoshi, but I was hoping for a little tease at least? what does the community think about this?

I absolutely loved those classes in FFXI and I would ditch my BRD for RNG almost instantly....

Also... we could really use another two-handed melee DPS class in my honest opinion, especially for those of us that don't like Dragoon or were dissapointed with DRK being a tank. (I like DRK as tank now, it grew on me)

Thoughts?

I'll be honest, I do have hopes for Samurai but I base that off of the first level 60 dungeon. The first boss, his movements, his stance remind me of a Samurai, but I could also just be overly hopeful. I do agree I would love an actual sword class that didn't involve tanking. Redmage is probably my last hope if they include rapiers.

Ranger? Probably no. A mobile ranged DPS just won't work in the game. Which is why BRD and MCH both now have cast bars even with lower overall DPS.

Samurai? Maybe it'll be the next tank job (they said the 3.0 tank was either going to be DRK or SAM, and they chose DRK, so please look forward to it)

Ranger? Probably not. They gave BRD a dps LB and since their is no support role Ranger would just be a more dps bard? Samurai probably in 4.0 I would assume since thats the job talked about when it was between DRK and SAM

I sure hope Samurai is a DPS and he doesn't decide a shogun-style tank

I think there are too much fanboys concerning Samuraï.
The fact that the Dark knigh is a tank is the only thing that keep it from being overused by all the "kenny" of the game (hard work, stress etc...)
If you make something as popular as a samuraï in dps class, there would be a monstrous rush on it.

i could actually see Ranger happening with Crossbows, perhaps. FF doesn't seem to have too many jobs they could feasibly make ranged dps/mage dps, i don't think they'd throw away ranger just because another class is using bows. having said that though, i'm not really sure what ranger would do different than brd.. the archer class is essentially ranger, honestly.

lol fanboys? that's no different from people playing ninjas because.. well... they want to be a ninja? :P

Most likely Samurai for 4.0 since they already mentioned it and the concept for what SAM could be is already in processing.

Ranger is most unlikely since a pure mobile DPS Job is something that want to avoid due to balance issues with trying to prevent it from becoming the "perfect" DPS Job that outshines all DPS Job in everything. Not to mention Bard already cover that role.

Same. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm kind of tired of SE's thinking in XIV "Does it have a sword or heavy armor? Then it's a tank!" -.- I'd love to have a sword using or heavy armor wearing melee

I'd like to see red mage soon. Would be nice to have a playable class with a gun-blade as well.

That kind of makes it sound like a base class with Shogun being a job it can get with a DPS option job in addition.

I'd put my money on Samurai over Ranger at this point. The storyline appears to be heading toward Ala Mhigo and it wouldn't surprise me if that job becomes a factor along with Monks.

With Gun and Bow covered I'd say not likely on Ranger. Samurai though I'm sure will be one of the next few since people won't shut up about it.

What would be the point of ranger? For all intents and purposes Bard is Ranger - they have all their big classic abilities like sidewinder etc. I don't think it would be very unique even if you spun it off of archer, same thing with thief - their big abilities are already in other jobs.

I say this as someone who really wishes they had just made it Ranger and saved bard for one of these instant 30 job only ones focused more on support. But there is no support in the game so I guess this will have to do.

I'm sure samurai will come eventually - I personally don't care if its a tank or dps. I think it could work either way.

I'd really like some more DoM, maybe a Red Mage magic tank with some enspells/spikes. I'd kill for blue mage, but after all they've said I'm not sure they're creative enough to implement it well.

They've already talked about Samurai saying that they choose Dark Knight over it. So, if it was out now it would've been a tank, but Yoshi even said that he sees it more as a DPS. For the Ranger, I don't know, it feels much like a Bard without songs XD

That said right now we have 3 tank 3 healers 2 ranged/supporter, 2 casters (and the SMN is a weird hybrid DoT/Pet/AoE class now) and 3 melee. What we need are a non supporter ranged and a caster more than another melee.

Then again, I was completely and utterly wrong about what summons we'd see as primals

My friend and I were talking about which FF summons would be good primals, he said something like "Man Knights of the Round would be so cool" and I responded with "That's like the ONE summon that won't be a primal cmon man" and well we all see how that turned out

Well he was right. Kotr is a cool Primal fight.

As others have said, we won't get Ranger. BRD essentially took the Ranger role (their base class is "Archer", which is essentially the same thing).

Samurai is very likely. It was hugely popular in FFXI, just like NIN, and they gave us NIN because of that popularity. So I wouldn't be surprised to see Samurai in 4.0

you did miss the part where they have said no more class added, i think you must accept the fact that samurai will and must'nt be a tank. mostly because it will be redundant with warrior and dark knight.

ninja was release because of the lack of "scout" jobs. since in FF series the scout are ninja or thief it was fast decided.
the next one coming will probably be red mage and dancer sadly. i don't see them add a new tank before a bit. add a new tank will not make the tank more present.

and yoshida want to add a melee mage, dancer fit perfectly with ala migho lore then it's likely to come. other point about the red mage, ilbert use a fire sword strike hinting in this direction. since he is from ala migho.

dancer will probably be a melee healer and red mage a melee mage.

We'll see SAM in 4.0 for sure. The question is Tank or DPS? Most likely tank, and yes I know SAM was meant as Tank in XI. I have a feeling they are going to be adding in a mage DPS for the next expansion, I hope it is a BLU. Could care less for the healer.

As for RNG, I doubt it would be in 4.0 if ever. Already have BRD and now MCH. Only thing I could see is Yoshida doing an overhaul to BRD, change it to RNG and getting rid of all the crappy BRD song stuff, replace them with RNG skills. Will that happen, doubt it. They could do RNG like the three new Jobs, no class. But the DPS mages are really missing out.

I don't think SE will ever attempt to add a 'Ranger.'

Let's face it. It's clear SE doesn't want ranged classes doing as much DPS as Melee. It seems to be part of a risk-reward model. BRD and MCH fill this nice - the lowest DPS in the game with little risk (movement) or near-Mage DPS by being a caster.

In order for them to add a ranger, they would have to find a way to balance a Rangers risk with their reward. I think SE is earnestly worried for the balance in such a case.

It will depends on the general theme of what is coming. If we head to free Ala Mhigo than a dancer or berserker job would sound just right. While if we leave Eorzea for Doma or just more of the Doman culture is getting in we could easily get the samurai. There's the imperial side too.. Gunblade user! Or well, original new jobs are welcome anyway!

They've actively talking about adding Samurai. It's on the top of the list for new classes next to Red Mage.
You'll see one or both of those by 4.0. They said they won't do 3 Jobs again for sure. But maybe 2 is possible.

Ranger - I doubt it will come at this point since we got MCH this expansion.

Non support ranged is basically not going to happen.

Also why wouldn't you just call it beastmaster? I'd like to see beastmaster too but still fill like it would be weird to implement - especially with so much instanced content without adds - they'd have to implement a lot of new systems (like jug pets a la XI or something) to make it work.

Dancer could also be a melee support, though I can't imagine what kind of offensive stuff you could give them without creating a lot of overlap with monks.

next job is going to be MAGE because we have 3 tanks, 3 healers , 3 melee dps , 2 ranged , 2 mage ....and i doubt SE will add another Ranged....

so Mage + who knows :o

Funny that, considering it worked just fine in ARR, huh?

The only thing I'm really hoping there will a range class like brd/mch, but completely dps focussed. Let them use a crossbow or something, but that would mean they'd have to change the lb1/lb2 for the mch.

Honestly what we need next is a new caster DPS~ but I would LOOOOVE Samurai... I do want it as a tank though.

I am also hoping for Ranger... and was praying they'd probably still make some other classes branch off like SMN/SCH.

They however did confirm, no new jobs till 4.0.

Ranger seems unlikely given that many of its abilities and/or core mechanics have already been given to Archer and Machinist. It's kind of like asking for a Sniper or Marksman job atop our gun-wielding MCH. I'm not saying it couldn't be done, of course; with enough underlying mechanics built into 'job traits' instead of just classes, it could probably even stem off Archer and still vary greatly from Bard, especially if they revised Bard to rotate a bit more around its singing.

Samurai, being a crowd favorite, will probably show up as soon as they have a decent setting into which to introduce it.

Just think.
During Arr the waiting time for a dps queueing was desperatly long. They bring up the super popular Dark knigh for heavensward, as a tank. Every one tried it, at that moment it was faster to enter a dungeon as a DD than as a Tank.
Due to tanking difficulties (or desillusions) a lot of players just went back to their older dps jobs. Now we get back with long queue time for dps. Seriously what do you think will happen if the next job that comes is even more popular than a Dark knigh and is damage dealer ?
Effectively the next class need to be a damage dealer (3 differents tanks + healers it's really not bad). But it absolutely need to not attract 80% of the game population.

I mean, if it's a samuraï, even i, who really like to tank & heal, will just leave my astro, my warrior and my dark knigh in the doghouse to become a pizzacat's

I think that stance was meant as an alternate stance for two handed sword for drk. I wish we'd gotten that battle stance instead of drk's current one, I really don't like it.

Well the game right now has what? 3 tanks, 3 healers, 4 ranged dps (2 magical, 2 physical), and 3 melee dps (all physical). If they wanted to even it out they'd have to add another tank, another healer, and another melee dps class.
