Let's talk about Dissipation

I've cast dissipation once, and only to see what it looked like.

I'm having a very difficult time finding circumstances that would justify using this skill in a combat scenario. It seems to lower healing output and cost mana. Completely ignoring the capstone spell of a job strikes me as fundamentally wrong.

But perhaps I'm looking at it wrong? Are there cases where I should be using it? What should my mentality be when using this ability? Let's talk about it.

Dissipation is not on my bar, I tried it and and I found that my heal plus fairy heal is greater, if anyone has any suggestions are welcome

I think that a reasonable use for Dissipation is when fight is ending, you finished your Aetherflow stack and Aetherflow is still on CD and high damage is incoming and yo uwant to be sure to have Lustrate/Indomitability/Sacred Soil.
Maybe it should give some MP so we could summon the fairy back.

I've actually used it a couple of times.

I pretty much think the only time it's useful is for emergencies where there's a lot of damage doing on and you're out of aetherflow stacks. It's good for getting an indomitability and a couple of lustrates. Again it's very situational, but if casting adlo/physick will heal too slowly/not provide enough healing, you have that choice.

I can't see ever needing to use it in an 8 man party when you have another healer... but alone, maybe.

Think I only ever had to use it once each on the final bosses in fractal and neverreap when people were taking crazy damage.

It would definitely be more worth it if it provided some MP...

The only situation I really see it useful in is something like this.

Lots of damage is incoming. You know it, everyone else knows it, it's going to happen. Pop Dissipation, adlo the tank, spread the love, drop a soil and go with the flow.

Assuming all your fairie's skills are on CD. Otherwise there is currently nothing in game that can't be solved by buffed up fairy aoe regen and a ET succor or two.
I am stressing CURRENTLY, though :)

It's an emergency skill not one you are supposed to spam constantly. It's only supposed to be useful in certain situations as your final card to play to keep the party up like WHM has benediction as a last resort on the Tank.

I was talking about maxing damage absorptions on the party.

While I hate everything about this skill I can see a few currently rare emergency situation where it might be necessary to get 3 aetherflow stacks. But I still think overall it seems like wasted potential as the final skill we get.
The part that bugs me the most is not being able to resummon our little companion for 30 seconds. Which not only costs us mana to do so but also time if we don't want to use swiftcast.

I'd rather would have liked a skill that fits the sch role more. We were always more preemptive healers in terms of shielding / reducing incoming dmg. So why not if we have to send our fairy away make it toggleable. Meaning:
You press the skill once you send the fairy away. The next time you press the skill your fairy comes back but also brought new aetherflow stacks with her. The amount (max 3) is determined by the time she was gone. (1 stack every 10 seconds) Maybe as an added bonus if you have send her away 30 seconds the cooldowns of the fairy are also reset or something along the lines because it would only really benefit Eos.

Not really a well thought through idea but I tried staying within the framing they set.

Assuming no pet cooldowns active it will be a significant healing increase for AoE healing. Single target...will suffer unless you blow all 3 AF on lustrate.

My biggest problem with it when I tried it I noticed that the healing buff only affect Physick, Adlo, and Succor, it does not increase healing done by Lust or Indom. If they would fix that I could see using it, but as of right now I already conserve my aether stacks to the point I am normally just using them on energy drain for a lot of the fights so far.

Yet another Dissipation discussion. The ability is not terrible, but it's not good either. I just find pretty "meh" and I use it sometimes.

Yes, thats the only issue with Dissipation in my opinion. Why have new aetherflow stacks by the cost of killing my fairy if they won't heal more just like my spells?

I hope we can see more use of it as Alexander approaches. I think the main discussion about Dissipation is because it feels weak for a lv60 ability. While the lv52 one (Indomitability) looks one of the strongest skills of our new arsenal. Its also funny to see that the duration on PvP is longer than PvE. I think we're complaining a bit too much, just look at BRD's Warden's Paean and AST's poor Sacred Soil.

I only use it while solo'ing now, for Energy Drain DPS.

Since Aetherflow healing abilities don't even work with Dissipation, there's really no point in the spell other than those very very specific fights where there is going to be a ton of AoE damage taken in 20 seconds, and we sit there spamming Succor because the tank is not in immediate danger of dying.

I mean, you're pretty much using the Energy Drain mana received to resummon your faerie. I mean, it might be momentarily useful for AoE. Why can't we just get Divine Seal and call it a day? Our faerie is our best friend. This doesn't make sense even in the lore.

We've talked about Dissipation.

There are very few strategically sound uses for it, and the good scenarios we've been able to cook up are either so situational or require so much prep that they still aren't worth the hassle. Having to resummon your fairy afterwards makes this ability even more unattractive.

It's a horrible panic button, as well. If you are already in panic mode, chances are that you've blown your Indom by this point, so the only thing "moar stacks" lets you do is spam more Lustrate (which you are now more likely to need since your fairy isn't there to help top off party members from arena-wide and accidental damage, stretching your GCDs thinner). SCHs still aren't WHMs with set-it-and-forget-it regenerative effects and spammable burst AoE healing that helps them maximize their healing-per-GCD, albeit at great MP cost. Then, assuming everyone is recovered from panic mode, it's time to pull your fairy back (assuming that you still have a SC available and enough MP after your healing panic attack).

In normal gameplay, however, there is no need to even think about casting Dissipation. Why rock the boat when things are going smoothly as-is?

TL;DR: The ability is mostly crap.

I'm not sure what more you people want out of this class. We have by far the best kit as scholor (and really it isn't even close) and that was pre-Heavensward. Post-Heavensward our kit just got way better than it even was before (which blows me away because it was already too good to begin with) but they completely patched up any advantages a WHM had over us which was AoE healing capacity.

Now you guys are complaining about dissipation being a useless ability when it has very applicable uses in certain scenarios. Why do we need every single ability to be 100% amazing in every scenario? Wasn't indomidability/emergency tactics/depolyment tactics/broil good enough for everyone?

Lets recap on what we currently have as scholors:

-Best damage mitigation
-Best single target healing
-Best recovery tools (lustrate - way better than benediction)
-As of the expansion we now have AoE healing that is way closer to WHM than it used to be
-Way more tools at our disposal for different situation (much moreso now with emergency tactics, indomoitability, depolyment tactics)

If anything we need a nerf to some of our abilities to be more in line with WHM and AST (however have never played AST so not positive of their capabilities). I could rant on about people complaining about the lustrate "nerf" also. Stance dance better - it makes a world of difference.


And that's the end of the rant. Let's try not to turn this class into a i-win button moreso than it already is.

It's less about trying to make SCH even better than it is about trying not to have our capstone ability be virtually useless. I'm sure they can think of something to do with Dissipation that isn't grossly imbalanced, yet is more useful or even just more "fun" than the ability is right now.

Actually you can cast Dissipation to consume your fairy's corpse if she dies and hasn't fully vanished yet.

Well, at least it IS possible if its about to die, so long you vanish her before she dies, right? Do you guys find any use for it in such a situation?

I disagree that it is virtually useless. I use dissipation way more than I ever used an ability like benediction when I played WHM. It is situation but far from useless or virtually useless. People just haven't played with it enough to realize its capabilities or you get the people that say they are taking it off their horbar and dont even give it a chance.

No. The fairy should rarely ever die unless the tank is going nuts and getting her cleaved by running in circles around her. Even if she does die and you Dissipate before she disappears on her own, you're in the same situation as when you would otherwise use Dissipation: no fairy heals/buffs/cleanse, a 20% healing buff that isn't really necessary to begin with and doesn't function on our Aetherflow heals, and you still need to drag her back up after Dissipation wears off.

It's still on my hotbar, and I am trying to give it a chance, but I haven't yet encountered a situation where I thought to myself "Wow, that was actually worth using."

Outside of having more Energy Drains for a DPS opener, I haven't found any significant advantage to using this skill. Maybe raids will surprise me, but I expect not.

Edit: If you have suggestions as to what its capabilities are, please share. Honestly curious to see if anyone has discovered a genuine use for this aside from the aforementioned ED spam.

The extra healing power is both unnecessary and countered by the loss of your healing buddy with her own GCD. If I really wanted +20% healing power for a short time, I'd summon Eos instead of Selene and buff myself along with the fairy and my co-healer, and get to keep my fairy out on top of it.

Dissipation could contribute to a strong mitigation effort to help a raid survive a mechanic that SHOULD kill them at their current ilvl/HP, but that's both a very situational use and one that disappears as players progress.

Edit: Speaking specifically of the extra Aetherflow stacks, what else am I going to use them for? I don't need that much Lustrate spam, and Indom has a 30 second CD (as does Soil, not that it's particularly useful outside of raid mechanic mitigation, anyway).

So consider it a free 3 aetherflow stacks then. That's not that bad of an ability to me

Just adding my two cents - now that it's unofficially been confirmed that the healing potency increases aren't meant to work collaboratively with ability heals, this ability needs some serious buffs to make it more useful.

As it stands right now, the only use I can still think of using it is if you need a serious eHP boost to take a raid wide damage mechanic equivalent to Teraflare in the face in Alex.

Agreed. As much BS as that is - these rules just get made up as they go along. Why are healing abilities affected by potency debuffs but not buffs? There's no logical consistency.

This ability is so incredibly situational at this point to be practically useless. I find it laughable that they believed it was overpowered at some point.

It's a DPS skill plain and simple. You use it to burn down stuff like Fire/Ice cubs against Ascian Prime or Bane when you've run low on your stacks for some reason. Or Dissipate at the end of a trash mob so you have full stacks for DPS if Aetherflow is on CD.

If you think about using it only for the healing buff and more Lustrates and Indos the skill becomes incredibly bad.

Basically this. A situational, long-cooldown ability would be fine. Something fairly weak but useful would also be fine. But as best I can tell this ability hurts more than it helps.

But it's not free. Losing the pet isn't worth a 20% buff to 3/5 your healing spells. Nevermind that the pet is 2k mana to resummon, making it pointless as a recovery tool, and the loss of swiftcast for 90 seconds (wait to resummon your faerie in 30 + wait another 60 more) further impairs your ability to heal and resurrect. If you want to be nitpicky, you also lose out on the enhanced pet actions trait, rouse, and the abilities the pet itself brings such as raid dps on selene.

I'm not high enough level for dissipate yet, but there have been occasions where I have found myself out of aetherflow stacks and either really needing some emergency lustrates or unable to pop sacred soil for a big attack. Dissipate would have been nice in those situations.

I explained on reddit how Dissipation is a pretty mediocre skill with VERY situational use and got downvoted heavily, because apparently I don't know how to use the skill effectively and since I'm scholar and have unlimited mana anyway, the 1750 MP for resummoning the fairy are basically non-existant.

So if anyone could give me good uses for Dissipation which don't happen once every fullmoon, I'll be very glad. I just can't get this skill to work in any way at the moment.

I mean, it's crap for mana gain and mediocre (very mediocre) for emergency healing. The only time I actually thought about using it was during hunts, when I needed more Aetherflow stacks for energy drain :P

Those people who try to insist that Dissipation is more useful than it is appear not to be following the kind of flow chart mentality that leads others to conclude that it is, in fact, almost never useful.

If you follow your gameplay chart and have to scrape to identify conditionals that lead to branches where you might consider using an ability, then it probably isn't very good.

Best suggestion

Something that would fix this spell is making it so that after 30 seconds, instead of having to resummon your fairy, it simply came back.
