It is true, you can only fully join one company. I believe it was said that other companies seals will vanish or something too. so I would burn all the seals for the companies you dont plan on joining. Even tho I burned all my seals for all companies already :P.
I'm thinking more that they'll still give you the recruit-level quests for each GC, but then after you've completed those, you'll be required to finish a final intro quest to be formally inducted/raise a rank and then have access to further quests. Otherwise, they're blocking off a lot of content for players who haven't completed the dungeon quests, and want to see each nation. In addition, from what's been said, personal chocos aren't recruit level, so i'm guessing there's got to be some sort of gating there. Maybe i'm wrong.
Indeed, there will be new ranks in the Great Companies, but nothing more than that has been said other than some dev/community rep tellings us that in the future we won't be able to join all the grand companies anymore.
Things are very unclear right now, but all I really want to know is if I'll have to use my seals before the patch, it wouldn't be cool to simply lose that many seals without a warning.
I understand that part of it, and it makes sense; however, nothing really was ever said whether or not there'd be a final introductory quest or speech or whatnot that locks you in for good. It seems like they'd still give players the option to tour each city and see the different starter cutscenes/quests before settling on one. I can't really see people just showing up to the counter, and bam, too bad you're stuck!
This would also give players the ability to burn their seals before not seeing them again for an indeterminate amount of time.
Think with me for a second:
After Patch 1.19 you won't be able to purchase anything from other GC's and you'll be able to repeat quests that will give you Seals for your GC of choice.
So basically, when they do bring back the possibility to join another GC in parallel, you'll probably be able to get Seals from repeatable quests.
The best choice is to burn them for now and if you need more seals in the future, you can just earn them from repeatable quests.
Thanks a lot, Bayohne.
This really cleared things up.
Maybe there should be a seal currency conversion rate.
But i mean, really, boo hoo if you loose a few thousand seals.
when cam you fully join grand company? right now I have into the dark from uldah, if i finished this can I redo it for other cities?
I think they should just let u exchange the amount of seals you have from other companies and convert them to the seals of the grand company you commit to.
I would like a DEV response to a few questions:
- How is choosing a different Company than others from your LS gonna affect the possibility to clear content together.
- Is choosing a company gonna lock you out of content (I don't mean different versions of the same quests, but actual different content/quests that have a meaningful difference)
- How is choosing a company gonna lock you out of rewards from other companies? (at this point the weapons at company shops aren't of any real value, but that could change?)
The main question is: What is there to loose from the other companies when we sign up at one?
What direction is this gonna take?
You can do any company stuff, except for the caravan escorts, with people from different companies and even get a bonus from it. Gear from companies is supposed to become tradeable/sellable from what I understand, too.
Yeah, I read that about the caravan escorts. The rest is more kinda guessing.
Because the Grand Companies will take an important place in the game, and since it won't be possible to switch companies, I'd like some clear and detailed information about 1.19 but also the direction they're gonna take it later on.
Caravan escorts is one thing, but what about other non-repeatable company quests or possible storyline quest, are they gonna be unique to each company? If this choice for example determines the rest of your main storyline, I'd like to know beforehand.
"supposed to become tradeable/sellable" that sounds like good guessing, is it confirmed?
Edit: Today, again, questions in my LS:
Do you guys know if company gear will be bound as it is now?
like limsa will have lancer stuff? because if that's the case I might have to go limsa, instead of gridania ._.
I think most people are assuming that's the case, but who knows?
I'm personally hoping it would change the storyline cause then it would be another incentive for people to pick the one they like.
As for the gear thing it was in a dev post a while back, I will try to find it but the company gear situation has been mentioned before.
Ok, for all you FF noobs. If this is anything like the way it was implemented in FFXI, you can only maintain allegiance to one company (city in FFXI). This makes perfect sense. What company/military unit wants you if you are bolstering the strength of the competition. You guys have seen this before in WoW. As you gain favor with one faction, you can also lose favor/gain hatred from another. Can you not understand that? In FFXI, you could switch allegiance to access the other content, but not without losing your "Rank" in the other city states. I know many of you are too young to understand or have not worked enough to get the point, but when you work for a company, any time or benefits accrued do not carry over from one job to the next. Your 501K can be rolled over, but working 10 years for a company and switching to a new company does not mean you will enter that new company with 10 years of seniority. And staying dedicated to a company can give you rewards that you cannot get by jumping from company to company. This is about something bigger than you (I know many of you have a hard time understanding anything being bigger or greater than you, but it's time for a hard lesson in life).
As far as knowing beforehand, that is like knowing that you will or won't get a promotion or a job relocation before you accept the job. In life, you sometimes have to make a choice and deal with the consequences.
All of the whining taking place about things you can only conjecture truly is much the same thing as hiding in your house because a meteor might strike you, or you might be hit by a car, or you might catch the flu.
Why not let them show you before you tell them what it should be...There are a great many of us that liked FFXI that don't want your WoW to ruin our game. Some elements of WoW are cool and I realize that SE has to deal with the fact that WoW is hugely successful but if WoW was so perfect, why are you here? The fact you are here means that WoW isn't perfect. Since WoW isn't perfect, why should SE pattern the game after imperfection? Since WoW isn't perfect but seems to be more perfect in your eyes than FFXIV, why not go back to WoW and whine to the devs to make it more like FFXIV?
