Well it's weaker then melee
I wish they'd just make them all equal so we can quit this "wtf why you lb melee does it" bullcrap.
If you aren't melee, they might as well not have given you limit break.
Its AoE, or rather a frontal cone attack so it should be less damage than melee. LB2 hits for about 2.5k while LB1 does about 1.4k.
And thats capped at level 44 in Stone Vigil (been doing that one a lot lately).
Depends on the situation, are you hitting more than 1 enemy? If so ranged LB, if its just one, better for the melee to use.
If you aren't melee, then you should blow it on groups of 3+ mobs before you hit the minibosses where melee *will* use it. A single mage LB1 that hits 7 mobs has equivalent potency to two Melee LB2. If they give you crap for "wasting" LB kindly inform them they don't understand the basic concept of DPS efficiency.
LB is typically only used on low health bosses, so it's *always* one hit.
Should have made all DPS limit breaks single target with splash damage. They put all this work into giving each job a special limit break, and most of us will never get to see or use ours. Healers? Melee should have blown it before everything went to hell. Ranged? If you don't have melee maybe... Caster? See ranged. Tank? Don't make me laugh.
I've used healer LB once, seen it used twice. Tanks I've seen blow it to troll, and since the expansion went live, I've seen LOTS of folks blow it on trash trying to jump it before anyone else does because they want to *see* theirs. Can't blame them.
Use it when appropriate- if there are a lot of mobs to hit, you'll not be remiss using it. People will always give you crap about using an LB when they want to, some people are just like that.
I had a guy get mad at me for wasting an LB on the golem boss in Qarn today, as a Machinist. While he was also a Machinist. He proceeded to piss and moan and call me a noob the whole dungeon and refuse to explain why it's a waste if no one else was going to LB and his would be the exact same as mine. Like, I went out of my way to be polite and ask what he planned to use it on and I just got an almost cliche "ugh noobs" out of him.
Point is, some people just suck. You know when to LB and it's not always "Save it for the boss, melee". Just be smart about it.
ranged LB dmg for single target is worse than melee but better than mage , and can hit every mob in front of u
Not true at all, there are a /lot/ of fights where ranged LB is superior.
AoE should be weaker than a single target. Having them be the same is bad design.
You've never done coil or any truly difficult content, have you? >_>
Though even in easy content, saving the LB for the last hit is just dumb...so I'm not sure where you're getting this opinion.
All the LBs have a place, and I've seen all 4 of them used quite often actually. Wanting them to be the same is ridiculous and would limit their raid design.
What if instead ranged LB's scaled to the amount of enemies they hit? One enemy = melee potency value, two or more enemies = current ranged potency value. That way you'd still use a ranged LB in the limited situations we currently do, but in cases where there is only one enemy, you can use either melee or ranged, giving players a choice. This would also tremendously benefit parties that are formed that have no melee.
I say the best time to use it is at the beginning of a fight. Obviously make sure the tank has plenty of enmity but using it at the end really only ups the dramatic effect of finishing the boss off in a flash. Even then most wait too long to do it where the boss wouldve died soon anyway or soon after. Using it early lets you build up even more limit break bar, sooner.
Unless of course you know its going to be a hard fight so you may want to save it in case the tank or hea...... hahahaah! couldnt finish that one without laughing.:p
But then it would just be plain better with more utility than a melee LB, and melee players would complain.
It's a fickle thing, I think it's perfect how it is now tbh.
Honestly, it's rare you're going to wipe because you used a ranged LB over a melee. It's only 25% weaker, especially if you gauge how dire of a condition the party is in. If the boss is at 5% and everyone is at full health, use a tank LB for all it matters, I did the summoner LB in ravana yesterday just because I wanted to see it and no one cared because the boss died.
As long as the boss dies the only half-valid complaint you're going to get is "Aw but I wanted to do it!"
I think a lot of the time it's saved for the end because the beginning of the fight is often really easy, so taking off a chunk of life there has little benefit. The last phase of fights are often harder, so ending them as quickly as possible makes more of a difference. Of course, if you can get a LB off at the beginning AND end, that's the best case, but usually the fight does last long enough to fill it up to full.
Honestly can't believe i just read this. This comment just shows you have very little knowledge on this topic and should not post on here giving new players bad information. As i have played BLM for a long time i can tell you there have been many occasions that my AoE LB has been more beneficial even with the lower single target potency you are comparing a 9000 to a 5400 AoE so if you hit 2 targets as Vageta would say "It's over 9000!" making this LB do more DMG in total with just 2 targets. The more targets after 2 just makes this even better. Turn 5, Leviathan (lv3 BLM LB can hit head/tail and add if positioned well doing double dmg on levi beating melee lb total dmg and wipeing the add out so DPS can ignore it), Titan EX and more are all examples where this can be beneficial.
