I did Lost City of Ambapoor and nothing gave any experience. I don't understand this at all. Can anyone explain?
I suspect the level 50 instances from ARR contain enemies that just aren't programmed to reward experience for killing them. That's because prior to the expansion you're not getting experience at level 50. Perhaps it was an oversight on their part not to program experience in for those particular dungeons.
Maybe they'll have it fixed for the official launch on Tuesday?
It's intended and written in the patch notes.. You can only gain exp from high roulette from those dungeons
Quote:
[3.0] Players will now be rewarded experience points upon completing Duty Roulette: Main Scenario, Duty Roulette: Trials, or Duty Roulette: High Level prior to level 60.
However, players who do not use duty roulette to join level 50 duties associated with the above roulettes will not receive experience points.
No, not an oversight. They don't want you leveling 50-60 on Pre-HW dungeons. So none of the 50 dungeons grant XP.
You can still level off of FATEs in Eorzea if you want, but once you hit 50+ the FATEs in Ishgard are better.
You DO however gain exp from the level 15-49 dungeons, both from the mobs inside the dungeon and from the lowbie roulette. I dinged 51 in baby Haukke Manor.
Doing the high roulette rewards a chunk of exp at the end to encourage 3.0 players to still play the 2.0 50 dungeons. Other than that the patch notes did say that none of the 50 dungeons would pay exp per monster kill. Its working as intended. SE is making you play the new story to level up basically.
I had to do 2 old instances for my high level roulette (to unlock it.) and I'm not getting anything.
You don't get "ANY" experience...
the only way to get exp is in roulette and that is specifically roulette finishing exp.
after that all you can get is player in need exp.
The high level roulette isn't really worth doing now.
Ran a high level as a lvl 58 WHM and got 136k bonus xp. If i had spent that time doing even Dusk vigil i'd have gotten more.
Low level is the same, but you *may* get into some of the new dungeons which can make it worth your while.
Trial roulettes though gave me 207k at lvl 58.
It's still worth it for the Tomes. You get 100 Tomes of Law (new tomes) and 100 Poetics (if you still need them).
Yes, you don't get Law until 60, but you still get Poetics. But I was referring to using HLR in general, as it is still worthwhile. The point of HLR has never been XP, as you had to be 50 to use it anyway.
But Law tomes don't start getting rewarded until your 60, isn't that in the patch notes?
Really this is my one major concern with the handling of HW...
I get it, don't want people using those dungeons to grind to 60, but hopefully come patch 3.1 or 3.2 they bring exp into those dungeons. Having cheap base level gear of iLvL 115 for level 50 basically destroyed all of that great content for gear purposes. I fail to understand the reasoning in this... Why not make the basic vendor gear at that level be iLvL 70 or 80, and ramp up to 120 by 54, and 140 by 57. Anyway... Would be shame to lose that content to nothing. With all the secondary jobs to level, granting exp would be plenty of usefulness.
You're correct.
At the same time, you can do High Level with a preformed party of friends and zerg through it. Low Level, thanks to people zerging DRK/AST, is also one of the fastest queues DPS will ever have right now. So I do them; if not solely for the variety.
Well, nobody will bother doing high level que because they need to unlock it. So they have to do several useless zones for 0 EXP. Why? They could do fates and brush through it faster. Useless change, stupid waste of development time. Might as well remove the useless dungeons.
You get experience for being a class in need.
You get experience for doing your daily roulette one a day.
I'll throw my lot in and say I really don't like this myself. I'd prefer they just added XP to the level 50 dungeons and save everyone the hassle. Not only would it actually give players some kind of incentive to actually still run older content, but it will save a lot of headaches later on for people levelling multiple classes. Since the new dungeons can't be done until level 51 and quests won't last forever, eventually this is going to be a necessary evil unless they want to force us to Fate grind.
It's a blot on an otherwise wonderful expansion, and it needs to be addressed.
On Behemoth, we have instance issues...for the past few hours it seems. The group I was with reached one room then I crashed out and when I tried to relog it gave me a 10k error.
That being said there might be people who need to have the A. Vale done to unlock Ampadoor Keep's unlock quest...and to complete a mission for Grand Company.
Also yea I noticed the dungeons not giving exp for lv50 ones.
This happened to me yesterday, but when I did stone vigil I did gain exp...
only having 3 dungeons to get exp from 50-60 is crazy. There's really not much more to say about it.
Yoshida can explain it
There are also 3-4 daily roulettesQuote:
With the way the hard and expert dungeons from A Realm Reborn will be kept separate [[from Heavensward content]], will it be possible to level up there?
Yoshida: It was a tough decision, but we decided to leave it so that you will not obtain experience there at the start of Heavensward. As a development team, we believe that moving on past level 50 should happen on the Ishgard side. Because the new dungeons have a different pacing than the ones from A Realm Reborn, we were also afraid that people would gravitate towards the older instanced dungeons for more efficient experience.
After the situation settles down from the release of Heavensward, we might change things around by assigning some experience value, but that remains to be seen.
Just doing the quests in each zone tends to level you up appropriately for each new aspect you unlock, the pacing is very good through questing including main story quests in order to promote and push people to actually take part in the story lines present instead of just grinding dungeons or fates to 60. I for one appreciate the way they have done it and the amount of dungeons is plenty enough if actually do a lot of questing that is by proxy teaching you the lore, events and about the people of Ishgard. For example I do all the quests present in a HW zone which allows me to be level appropriate for the next by the time I am finished including level appropriate for the next dungeon, trial and story progression without the need to do a single fate grind at all or repeated dungeon grind and that is without having to do any challenge logs, sightseeing logs etc.
The amount of quests that are given to you is absolutely unreal. I've left sidequests behind in several zones now (and more appeared after I'd left those areas as well) simply because I'd progressed further in the story. At this point I'll just save them for when I level up my next class. Secondary classes will also go faster because you won't need to explore.
Most quests earn you about 30k experience. At this stage in my white mage (level 56) I need approximately 2.6 million experience points to reach my goal. It would take 87 such quests to hit my next level.
Story quests give a nice amount of XP, but those are a one-off so they're not going to be available for other jobs I might level. That basically leaves the level 51+ dungeons to get experience in which is just ridiculous. As for the roulette bonus, while nice it's only once per day, so it's never going to be your main source of experience in the game.
Let's be honest, there's no good reason why the level 50 dungeons shouldn't give experience points. Their only reasoning behind it is to get us to do the newer content. An argument which falls flat on its face when you realize that only level 51+ can actually participate in any of it, so any current level 50 jobs are going to be grinding lowbie dungeons regardless.
You only gain experience in level 50 dungeons upon completion of the dungeon.
It's a bit wonky. You would think you should get some kind of exp, but I suppose if that was allowed people would just spam the current level 50 dungeons until they hit 60. So perhaps that's why they didn't make this work that way.
Wow that just sucks. GG Square. Bad enough I have to do all that ilvl90 gear grinds plus story dungeons but I figured at least id get a jimp on XP.
Silly me, forgot what game this was.
Do the quests give XP at least? Or is the entire grind from 2.1 to 2.5 going to be a huge waste of time?
