Adding more content in 3.0 that requires a house is reprehensible. Shame on you, SE.

To be clear, I think the content is awesome. Building airships, sending them out to explore, that's all very cool.

What's not cool is that this is off limits to lots of people, thanks to this game's housing disaster, with which you're all familiar.

Beyond merely "not cool," it's absolutely reprehensible for SE to be working on, releasing, and charging us for new content that we cannot do, when we are unable to do that content because of their own shortcomings. That is, their pathetic inability or refusal to create enough housing space for all their paying customers is to blame for the situation.

Now, new content is the lifeblood of an mmo; keep it comin'. But to specifically make new content, and [I]to charge me for it,[I] when you know that you have made it impossible for me to actually do it, is purely wrong. I mean that literally: it's an ethical issue. It might sound like I'm making an awfully big deal out of a game. "Get a life, guy, it's just a game." Yeah, it's just a game that I'm paying money for, on the promise from this company that they're going to deliver a product that I can use. Right now, they're charging me for an unusable product. Housing may only be a small part of this game, but I'm paying for the whole game. And if I'm not receiving the whole game that I've paid for, I'm going to seriously reconsider spending another dime. I'm not asking to have something handed to me, nor am I being "entitled." I just want what I've paid for. That's not a free house or something, it's simple access to the housing system. SE, your paying customers demand it.

I'm not advocating for some band-aid fix. Don't take houses away from inactive accounts. Do what it's obvious you really should do: get a system in place that makes it possible for every player to eventually get housing. Anything less than that is not just inexcusable, it's totally outrageous. We've heard enough about server loads, blah blah blah. Figure it out. Take the team that's designing housing-based content, and put them to work on solving this problem in a satisfactory way, before they release anything else for people with houses to do. There is no excuse for this miserable behavior, it is the worst kind of bad prioritization.

No new housing content until housing is available for everyone. It is the only reasonable and good thing to do. SE, you should be ashamed of yourself for not working harder to fix this mess. No more excuses. Do what it takes to fix it, or watch your unhoused players quickly getting bored and moving on.

I agree, but with more "death to the aristos" and less "preserve things on inactive accounts".

mostly agree, there is a housing problem. But think of it as content you just can't get at yet, like most of the stuff released in the expansion. You have to work towards it.

I agree there is a housing issue but I disagree that you are entitled to all content because you pay a sub specifically in reference to your shortcoming as there is content in this game you cannot access already unless you beat previously gated content. (Final Coil)

Final coil or anything else in this regard are simple "i want" or "I don't want" choices you either do it or not the only restriction you have here is your own time and maybe rng (lets say you want a specific pet dropping from a treasure chest or something)
The current Situation is as if only the first 1440 Groups per Server are allowed to raid coil and the rest has to hope for next week.

So yes we are entitled to have Access to housing (and I'm talking about there being enough houses on each Server for EVERY single player)

I can walk into Final Coil whenever I want to. Whether or not I can beat it is another matter; I have access to the content created with my money.

Can you say the same about buying a house? No, you can't.

If the Coil system worked like the housing system, there would only be 1440 pieces of gear dropped for the entire server. Period. Once they're gone, they're gone until someone deletes them out of their inventory.

As far from the patch pre-release notes are, it doesn't looks that is so much difference having a house or not.
First most of the content you are talking is related to FC, not just house.
Second after that, it content (airship, workshops) looks to require huge amount of crafting materials and FC credits, wich means not everyone will have the will to keep doing so and also need many people working on it, so the small FC will have lots of trouble to keep it working.
Third for now, after all that effort, airships for now will work just like retainers, and of course it will have the same "friendly" RNG generator for stuff (yeah, those 16 vitality materia 2 rewarded on the patch note image looks so desirable).

So far the patch notes looks great, it will be nice, though still i have serious doubts now about how much worthy it be for the effort it uses, yeah have to wait until it be online for a better perception of it. But right now im set back foot on earth.

Generally, I am also a big fan of "death to the aristos." That was how I felt at first, before I did some reading around and gave this issue some thought. Don't misunderstand me: I am very angry about the housing situation. Like, my entire FC and I are pretty pissed, because we play this game as a small group for the express purpose of accomplishing things together. So that makes this games cool housing system near the top of our most wanted list; it provides cool challenges that we can tackle as a group for various rewards. That's fantastic. But we can't do it. Can't even get a taste of it.

So yeah, I'm mad, and definitely "death to however deserves it." But it's not the owners of abandoned houses. The reason death to the aristos makes sense in some situations is because the aristos have a vested interest in holding everyone else down. But in this case, there's no such interest. Current homeowners aren't trying to keep the rest of us from getting houses of our own, they're just trying to keep their own houses. Plus, evicting them all wouldn't be a real fix anyway. The houses thus freed up would immediately fill up, and then new ones would pop up randomly every week or so, only to be snatched up again. We don't need evictions, we just straight up need more houses. Way, way, way more houses. And I'm way more comfortable blaming SE for not making enough, than I am blaming fellow players who worked for their houses, and might come back to them some day. Lord knows, I quit this game for over a year. Had I bought a house and lost it, I'd probably not have come back at all.

And in response to the comment about gated content, I don't disagree. I like having gates in front of my content. I really enjoy working hard to achieve something, it gives my primitive brain a little shot of dopamine as if it really mattered, and it make me feel good. Gated content is wonderful. But there's a completely obvious distinction between gated content and completely untouchable content. Housing is not something we can't get "yet." It's something we can't get, period. No amount of work will overcome the current barrier. So that analogy is completely bunk.

My hope right now is that SE will do something, soon. With this expansion, and the influx of new players it will bring, an "uprising" is imminent. When people start to realize that they paid for this housing gameplay, but can't do it, and that it's SE's fault and negligence, they will be angry, and they'll take to the internet, and SE will have to figure it out. Or they'll leave the game, and they'll be right to. This game is good, but there are a lot of good games on the horizon. Especially for a subscription based game, SE is already pushing it by charging extra for retainers (I firmly believe that, in a subscription model, we should all have access to all the storage the servers can handle); making us pay monthly in this day and age for an incomplete experience just won't fly.

This is a problem, but nearly as big of a deal as the lack of inventory space. I think housing and inventory management is where this game and expansion shows the weakest by far.

The problem is not that the content requires work. (from the way I understand it) But more the fact there are literally not enough houses for all the FCs on a server let alone FCs AND private citizens. That is a very sad fact that even my FC was facing not to long ago. We did however get lucky and have someone sell their house when they server transferred, which was nice, but the fact remains we shouldn't have to have rank 8 FCs with out a legit chance to get a house.

The problem was they made Personal housing the same as FC housing and that messed it all up, Wards were designed to accommodate FC houses not a house for every player.

There is no way that housing as it stands will ever be on good footing because there is just no feasible way to keep adding wards till they have enough for every player + all the FCs that want/need one. - Wards just don't provide enough supply for demand if we assume every player wants a house.

Personal housing should have been instanced and it should have given you a room/apartment and a little green house/balcony and a chocobo stable downstairs/outside that anyone could use and be set in the cities or make a big inn type building in the already empty housing wards seeing how there is nothing to them besides the plots and should have been the same price as a private chamber.

Your comments are not relevant to the actual argument being presented here.

Everyone can work toward and complete FCoB Turn 4. It's available for every player who works for it.

However, not everyone can own housing, regardless of how much they work for it. There simply are not enough plots to go around.

And that is a problem.

I have enough for a house but am just waiting atm for the new wards. So annoyed at the lack of housing available for newer free companies because of the personal housing mashup.

I pretty much fully agree. I mean it's not like we're demanding a new residential district or anything. I mean, their reasoning for not having a new one in Ishgard makes sense. But Wards are literally copypastes. It's not like they're creating anything new, they're literally taking the base code for a Ward and naming it Ward 9, 10, etc.

Like if every Ward was different I'd understand, but every Ward is exactly the same aside from the people living in it. So I really don't see why it's something that hasn't been addressed yet, seeing as how in most servers every Residential District has been completely full since patch 2.4

And yeah, homie insisting we're all entitled because we're not "working for it" it's got nothing to do with that. I along with my Free Company have saved up money for a house. We worked for it. So why don't we have it? That's what we're saying. I could "work for it" and save up more Gil for a house than everyone on Famfrit combined and still wouldn't have one.

It's my understanding that we pay only for a license to play the game, and are not promised to be given land for our money, so I won't call it reprehensible.

I understand the concern about missing content that other players have access to. It's something that will take time to resolve. They stated that there will be some kind of guest pass to allow players with no house or FC to participate in manned expeditions, and of course more housing wards are planned.

It's not impossible for you. For example, you would be welcome to join the FC I belong to, which owns a house that you could make use of. I imagine there are FC's that own houses on your server. Look around. Otherwise, you just need to work on making money, I guess. To unlock parts of this game, one simply must play specific parts of the game or play in a specific way. To unlock Ifrit (extreme), for example, you need to defeat other primals first. For housing, join an FC or make the gil and buy one. That is part of the game.

Imagine if only the first 1440 people who unlocked Ifrit Extreme could play it, and you've got housing. There are many servers where there is simply not enough space for everyone who wants a house.

Or perhaps give those with personal homes the option to open up private chambers to their friends/FC mates and offer the same merits.

Problem mostly solved right there.... if I could share my home with my friends that'd be awesome and I wouldn't be constantly hunting for a small plot for our FC.

I think SE needs to revisit making instanced housing for personal housing. Put the development effort into ironing out the server issue it may cause and then incentivize people who have personal houses into moving to those and relinquishing their plots for FC use.

The implementation I'd love to see is an "airship" that you could "anchor" over a region. So the set dressing under you could change, but it's just there for appearance and has no game impact.

To be honest, I'm exceedingly disappointed with the housing situation. I love having my own house but for whatever BS reason, there are so few plots available. This is basically spitting on all the paying customers, no matter how hard we work, we can't even get a plot because they are all taken, even on smaller worlds. The fact that they gate so much content behind the ownership of a house is even worse.

Some people really aren't getting this... I don't just need to save up the money. I have already done that. My problem is not that I am unwilling to do the effort required to make enough gil. My problem is that there are no plots available on my server.

To the suggestion of joining another fc. 1) I appreciate the invitation, thank you! 2) But also, no thanks. My friends and I run a small fc, which we have been running in various games for over a decade. We have always had bad experiences in other guilds; we even tried joining one in this game when we first started, and it went terribly (wouldn't let us raid as a group, wanted to split us up into different fc raid teams, screw that noise). We want a house that we can manage ourselves, and run the way we want. AND we have saved up the gil for it. We have enough for a medium right now, and are trying to even save up for a large. So we're definitely putting in the work. As a result, we should be able to get the damn house!

Finally, about just buying the license, and not having a right to all content: I would dispute that. For one thing, anyone who gives reasons why SE is justified in giving us a game "license" that doesn't grant us at least the potential to experience everything in the game is casting their vote for how video gaming, as a hobby, should be. Do we really want a world where companies do that to their games on the reg? Saying that "that's just how it is" is a vote in favor of the status quo, and that sucks. Secondly, even if that is the case, it would need to be made crystal clear to the buyer beforehand. Legally, I would argue there's definitely a reasonable expectation of getting full access to a digital product, when I purchase it. And if it really is the case, and SE has the legal right of it, then frankly, I'd prefer to spend my money somewhere else, because that is/would be garbage.

They should make FCs/players able to "rent" a workshop. Maybe pay 1.500.000 Gil to Cid for upgrading his workshop in Mor Dhona, which can then used by FC-members to do all the aircraft-stuff.

It's just unfair, that FCs might not be able to even get an airship before boarding them is implemented. I build an airship before for my Ixal-buddies... now I want one for myself.

I wonder how many worlds have no housing plots left? (There are a number of vacant lots on ours, but don't tell anyone!!)

I tried to make a list, but people stopped giving information and it entered The Housing Spiral so it stopped being useful.
