Please bring it back i would love a tamer class in ff14!
FFXI..is that way...->
Once again, no one wants to play FFXI anymore but all of you want the game to be just like it.
Even in non tactics, in FFX-2 you can use a pet animal with the trainer job
I also like the "no one wants to play FFXI anymore" quote. FFXI is still turning a profit, so that's obviously not true. In fact, FFXI is the most profitable final fantasy game in history. It's also in the highest grossing video games in history, at well over a billion USD. Seems you're wrong on all points!
But, you know, the most successful game in the franchise OBVIOUSLY did things wrong, right? So.. Duh, guys! Beastmaster shouldn't exist!
I look forward to this. I didn't get to play much of XI but I'm presuming it worked a lot like Rangers/Hunters work in most MMO's? Going out and taming various animals and monsters and building a collection of pets, loved these classes in MMO's! I know we might not get it anytime soon but its nice to think about that we might get something like this down the line. :D
Not at all. First of all, in WoW, even as beastmaster spec, the hunter did a lot of the DPS. In FFXI, the beastmaster did some dps, usually with dual axes, sometimes swords or scythes, but the pet was the majority of the damage. You didn't have pets like the hunter did, either, that were permanently your own. You could use a skill called charm on nearly any "beast" type mob (basically, animals) in the field, and then use it to fight with. It used all its attacks, and it was the same strength as the mob was normally. You could also use "jugs" to lure in a familiar for a while. These were useful for a lot of things, but they weren't as strong as tamed pets. Charm wears off with time, and when it does so, the mob attacks you. It was an amazing solo class, and very interesting to play.
i can see puppeteer working since the dolls are already in the game
Beastmaster would certainly be interesting, however I don't foresee it being something that would bring a bunch of raid utility along with it. So, that might be an issue. Maybe if they take the Game Hunter route. I'd rather see something like Geomancer or Oracle make the cut though just for some different flavor in the franchise.
The lack of a monster/elemental wheel sorta kills much of the old potential.

But I suppose they could make it a pet class. With a shape shifting companion that can become a miniature mimic the whatever monster you tell it to copy.
I want to have a beastmaster, but only if it more works more like a real pet class and not like how Summoner is at the moment. The focus of the class should be more on the pet and the ability for the pet and master to work in sync.
it could work , dual axes , charm for fun (because in dungeons raids wont be usable at all... kinda like ninja stealth) , and letting the BST choose from a lots of pets , every pet bring something
Crab = Carrie of course, can bring defense buff and str down
Bear = slashing debuff and -10% dmg debuff (if DRK doesnt have it) because atm only War provides it.
Tiger = crit buff? , and some aoe dps with bleed dot
Mandragora = blunt debuff and stun (headbutt!)
the bst will command the pets do the skills in btw the pets will just autoattack , add some chains for the bst that buff the pet somehow , DPS CDS and u have a job that is a wildcard and can bring whatever is needed for the party.
Bst could be awesome in FFXIV !
plus the AF would look cool on lalafells

Yes!
But their new weapon would be either a one-handed axe or a whip.
I like pet classes :>
We'd pretty much need to be able to charm any beastikin, scalekin, and whatever the hades you call aquatic monsters.
Hey...this could actually be fun...
I want BM back but considering how everything is [not that dangerous] you could tame anything...
If they made it so this job is available at 50~ it would make more sense to me since Heavensward is supposed to add danger.
Tame a beast the right way.
By getting your ass kicked in the process.
Just my opinion tho. xD
Considering how this game is, if we did get a beastmaster class, I kinda see it being along the lines of Summoner, in that every few levels you get a new pet to tame or control on a mission and then just call out the pet depending on the situation much like Ifrit, garuda and titan. However I wouldn't say no to more classes at all, im still quietly waiting for some mention of a Dancer class xD
Hella ignorant but i'll answer. Beastmaster is a class in the Final Fantasy universe NOT bound solely to FFXI. Don't forget that SE made FFXIV mirroring FFXI to ease the transition of players wanting to make the switch. Beastmaster would be an awesome job in FFXIV. Melee attacker with a TRUE pet companion, not this SMN bullshit we have now.
I would like them to bring dancer to ffxiv. Does that mean I want to go play ffxi again heck no. I just would like to see it again cause I love the job. I don't think just because a job was in ffxi that this game needs to be like ffxi just to bring a job that was in it to it.
Original quotes are that way <---.
That aside, drawing parallels to the only other MMO in the franchise is natural. It was also hugely successful, so obviously it did plenty of things right (unlike FFXIV 1.0). There's no shame in repeating a formula if it makes for a fun experience overall.
BST was certainly my favorite job from XI so I would definitely like to see it brought over to XIV as a DD. As long as the play style is different than XIV's version of SMN, then I will be happy to give it a go. For weapon choice, I would vote for a whip.
This is actually a great idea in my opinion. It also fits well into the current style of FF14. Your basically given a Mimic as a pet, which can in turn become any monster you manage to tame/mimic with it. Also for the first guy who immediately trash talked my suggestion, I have in fact never even played FF11. I have always just had a great love for tamer classes in FF, and I simply seen they had one in 11 and figured beast master was the most appropriate name.
I dunno...They seem to not know how to do pet job's well.
I'm all in for more new fun stuff but...
See SMN. >_>
I would disagree, i kind of feel FFXIV is the other extreme. World of Warcraft has the most interesting transition because it's not even a different game. It's the same dam game that went from challenging/time consuming to so "accessible" people are leaving en masse shortly after each expansion.
I'm all about new jobs, but truthfully 3 jobs for an expansion is already a pretty good amount. I'm not really expecting any new jobs during Heavensward. But i would totally love a berserker/beastmaster!! It's gotta use one-handed axes though!

berserker is already inclued into warrior/marauder.... some class/jobs we have in FF14 are a mix of other jobs.
like the conjurer that is a mix between white mage and geomancer. don't forget that the game at the start before they did add jobs was planned for have a large number of class....
(ref: http://www.google.fr/url?source=imgl...ATv1DsllHxK_TQ )
i dunno for the beastmaster, people tend to think that a jobs that need the pet for do anything will be a thing... i did play game like this in the past and in high level content whenever the pet was dying it was frustrating. the pathfinding trouble, latency in the execution of the order,....
it gonna be a pain for them. even wow didn't go this far into the pet jobs, if you look at the hunter, they had access to a tons of pet, but most of them have 2-3 skill max.
i dunno if beastmaster will come or must be bring to the game, but i feel jobs like dancer/samurai will be bring before it happend.
I've always been a fan of beastmaster melee classes! Fighting side by side with a tiger, wolf (or a Courier Carrie if you're a former FFXI player) has always been one of my favorite things to do in mmo's. SOMEONE TELL THE DEV TEAM TO GET CRACKIN!
If you think about the way they already have the game designed, and the current MO for doing our Chocobo's, the beastmaster is an obvious set forward from that.
Training Grounds - When they add a class, they add a pen like the Chcobo Stables.
Taming - I am sure I ain't the only one who has grinded leves for powerleveling DPS classes, and the leves at every level point have a mission to pacify creatures - so we have that mechanic.
Summoning - Could be tricky
Limits of Pets - This could work like the Chcobo where getting to lvl 10, then to go higher you have to feed it something for every lvl progression, but you loose a permenant pen place for keeping it. That way we can interchange our pets and it puts the job makeup on the player.
Interesting thoughts - 8 beastmasters going into Binding Coil (or Crystal Tower)...
With the buildup of this, I would expect that if they have already started it (enough evidence to say they have) this may be a mid 3.0 series to mid 4.0 series release.
I will say that there is enough in game evidence to say that the job is coming, only a question of when.
you already can...
http://img15.hostingpics.net/pics/97...2015204951.jpg
but yeah, it could be fun.
I desperately -really- want a pet job.
I've been waiting for one since 1.0 launch ;x
Really hope they bring it with next expansion.
Smn doesn't count because of the limit to pets
And sch kind counts (sch is my current main because of fairys)
Thinking about BeastMaster. You can't actually charm world or dungeon mobs. If so how would it work? What's the gimmick? There are no elemental wheels to worry about. So how does the type/species/family of pet really have any advantage against other mobs?
Given how everything seems to be set up. BeastMaster would have either one unique pet with three modes or three unique pets to fill one of three modes. Defender/Tank, Attacker/DPS, Support/Healer. Much like Acn or Smn would a Beast Master be gimped if their pet dies or if they die because they need to be in melee range. Would calling pets require Mp? Is the player a support DPS job with familiars doing the work? Is it a job that gets dumped into being a solo job and not wanted much for party play? This is not FFXI, there are no consumables for job abilities so jug pets are irrelevant. Bards don't have instruments in the shield slot so having a Beast master call using a secondary tool wont happen either. Trapping a pet into an off hand tool might work but you are looking at something on par with Mug, Mercy Stroke, etc.. But even then you can only hold one thing at a time if successful. What would happen when its released? A one time effect? I can already see people complaining about: guys you killed it to fast, you were to early, we lost all the healing effect mobs (rage quit), no more party boost effect mobs, effective trash kill mobs are gone its now challenging (rage quit).. and so on.
At this point given the design of the game if people really wanted a Beast Master like job. The companion Chocobo would become usable in dungeons. That is the only thing in the game currently that is close to a Beast Masters pet/familiar, and it can be used by any job. Hand, Land and War. That said the cost of Onions to get max rank birds would explode, people will require max rank birds only, and would they be as useful when their rank is capped for lower level dungeons? Then there's the summoners who will complain about not getting any new summons and how there is still no third Ruby Carbuncle to complete the triad.
Like a Dragoon that can tank, I just can't figure out how exactly some jobs would work. Not every game can be like Tactics and cram as many non redundant jobs for the sake of having them available at some point.
I see where your coming from Kotemon.
Also, it is possible that they are setting up the companion chocobo to be the pet of the beastmaster since that is where all the mechanics stem from currently for that type of play.
It is also possible that they may/could setup the companion chocobo so that in order to get top tier (lvl 30 guessing with Heavensward coming) that you would have to pacify creatures on the map and cross train the abilities to your chocobo in order to get beyond whatever the Heavensward cap will be.
Lots of possibilities out there, but since the Dev Team hasn't even squeaked a thought on this beside myself and others overreaching on current in game mechanics, who really knows if any of us are even close to correct.
I personally still stand my belief that a Beastmaster type of job is coming, just a question of when we will see it.
Based on your thoughts, and current mechanics, the Beastmaster could also be the Blue Mage a portion of the community is wanting to see in this version of FF.
Would be an interesting mechanic, and the way the Machinist is setup as a ranged buff/debuff dps with mechanical pets could be a in game test for it...? Huge reach I know, but I am good for over thinking things too.
- I agree on the whip weapon.
- The BM itself would specialize in support spells for pets and debuff spells on enemies.
- The pets would fill the roles such as tank, dps, and healer... similar to the Companion.
- When tamed each pet would have 3 paths to take, skills in those paths can be unlocked via BM Traits. Similar to how Fishing allows higher tier areas to be accessed.
- There would be predetermined pets, however there would be a multitude of pets to be tamed throughout the lands... very similar to how Guild Wars 2 does their pet taming system.
- Naturally each pet would have level requirements for taming, so you cant rush to high level area and snag the top pet.
- BM's offhand slot would be filled by a Mimic, which actually takes on the form of "tamed" monsters... thus bypassing the lore needed for where are all my pets stored.
