I got the core game via Steam and just decided to get Heavensward via the Square Enix store to avoid giving Steam anymore money after that paid mods crap they tried pulling earlier.
Process was convoluted and poorly thought out and then I got to the part where I can redeem a 20 digit code on Mogstation. Nothing is clear about exactly what this key is; I don't know if it's the key for Heavensward and the bonus items or if it's just the bonus items and I have to wait to unlock a separate key when early access becomes available.
Oh, and it doesn't redeem either. It's invalid every time I try. So then I look up a bunch of stuff. I see that there's not many keys and that Square will email a new one, I see that EU keys are being distributed and you have to wait for a new one, and I see vague information about Steam/non-Steam links. So, which is it? Is Square distributing bad keys or am I just screwed now and I cannot redeem this unless I pay double to get HS on steam even though there was absolutely no warning about how the account works?
If it's the latter, I will not buy it again. There was no warning at all anywhere and information I have found is too vague.
EDIT: A previous window I encountered explaining maintenance in multiple languages has popped up in Mogstation now. I don't know why Mogstation hasn't re-directed me to it before, but it does now. Previously, I saw this from a link in a tutorial from reddit. I guess I'll wait until maintenance ends for now and then see if the code will validate.
EDIT2: Now it doesn't redirect to a maintenance notice. Guess the site is just broken/horribly coded. Ignore previous edit.
So I guess I just spent money on nothing

the key is the code thats in the box when you buy the game, on digital copies they're emailed to you once they can be entered. the only keys available right NOW are windows PC versions.

Unfortunately, once you buy the base game from steam, you're pretty much locked into steam for any of the expansions. One major reason why I don't trust steam for mmo's.

i had the same issue too
resolve it by buying the steam version , u cant buy the expansion seperatly ,must first buy the base arr then the expansion
this happened due to registering your account with the free give away when 2.0 was launched
there is no way to change the account from steam into windows to resolve the issue
my account is shown as steam to the support , but i i am not playing the game through the steam systems.......:cool: we are special :D we pay more -

That notice should come up when you select the PC version, and not be a little note under the synopsis of the game. Not exactly the right place to put that thing so everyone notices. Second, "If you read the user agreement". I thought it was pretty much a joke by now that no one reads those things. And why would we? We just want to get to our games and skip through the pseudo-contract garbage that we already know pretty much says we're giving our souls away and that we are the now the playthings of big corporations. The part that says we can't play non-steam games off of steam is interesting, though. Steam runs the launcher and handles the cd key, so I still don't get how an account, handled by Square that is upgraded to allow Heavnsward to be installed and played in-game, is Steam's duty at all.Quote:

The Launcher is what checks what version to download and what patches to use (eg steam or non-steam) and all that steam patches is the launcher when needed.
This is unique to MMO's only. Other multiplayer types of games usually forgo the launcher because there is no billing/cash shop involved. -
