A problem arises when you have two players with the same name being matched together. Who gets the /tell? o_0
...Or you could just take the advice and switch to shield oath or not stand in AoEs?
Still, you would need to either guess or ask them which server they come from. Asking people for their server to have a private chat would be pretty obvious that they did something. The other two members might get tensed because they don't know what's exactly going on. :0
When people with the same name are paired together, DF automatically adds number suffixes to differentiate them. The naming circumstance is a nonissue in this context, and I've honestly always hated the inability to send tells while bound by duty.
if there is something amiss I will let someone know. wrong stance (cleric, sword) no fairy or no buffs. most hte time people go oh shit ty. and move on with the run. Can we not assume everyone that tells people these things is trying to be a ass?
If I see a tank who isn't in Shield or Defiance, or if I see a white mage spamming cure 2 in Clerics, I'll let them know in a very straight, non-condescending way. If they take offense to that, then it's because they're embarrassed or insecure, which neither is my issue. Constructive criticism > negative feedback.
This is the oversight that I was hoping someone would point out, it seems strange that this wasn't an inclusion and this reason explains the difficulty in implementation.

If someone does die or causes a wipe, while YOU don't want to cause them any further "embarrassment" the damage would have already been done. If a player falls in the arena against Titan, there is no 2-ways to hide it. Also why would you want to hide the conversation?
If someone dies and gets 3-7 different /tells, it's gonna confuse the *%# outta of the person. If one of the people advising the person that died gave incorrect advise, then no one in the group could chime in.
This isn't down to SE, but up to the player's responsibility and mentality. If someone is gonna flip at someone for not knowing a mechanic and not bother explaining it, then that someone needs a good look at themselves. Likewise if the new player doesn't ask for help and someone tells them what to do when they die, then they just need to buck up and do the dungeon/boss.
Of course, I'm up for /tell being available in dungeons/raids, but don't think that by patching that in the game it would make players think or feel any better.
Sorry but I cant agree to this...
Certainly would be good to be able to chat with friends underwater by other medium than FC chat, but I can totally see the negative ways this can lead to.
A person more focused on the chatbox than on the Duty at hand will cause a lot of problems, FC chat is already distracting enough that I've seen players stop moving just to keep up the chat there...
Adding Tells to that will only worse things out as I see it :/
I think the current system works. But players just need to be diplomatic about it. Don't just insult someone when they goof up. And likely they won't get defensive. On the flipside.. if someone is correcting you, and being respectful about it, don't get defiant with them. Talk it out.
This is a player-social issue. Something -WE- have to fix. We can't run to the dev everytime someone acts like a jerk and expect them to magic-code in a fix for it. It doesn't work like that. Gear they can adjust, NPCs they can adjust, content they can adjust. People's attitude? Only we can adjust that.
Imagine if everyone stopped being a jerk to one another. Boom the system runs smoothly. There's ways we can enforce that too. Linkshells and FCs and let the jerks queue with each other in the DF and watch them never get past Titan Hardmode.
Just tell them nicely. If they don't have a thick enough skin to take constructive criticism in a calm manner, they shouldn't be in a social situation.
I ran into a lot of Tanks and Monks that forgot to use Oath and Fist Stance.so i simply said in chat :
"Oath"
"Fist"
and they'll use them in few seconds later.some of them even say thanks to me for reminding them.
I won't bother tell NIN though since i can't remeber those 2 skill name.Scarlet's Kiss and Wasp's Whisper ? whatever ...
/tell lets vote kick that dude before we get to boss room
/tells might work if they let me change my status away from Busy while in an instance. But I'm keeping Busy up because SE isn't doing anything about all the RMT spam.
/tell partymember two this guy sucks, I can get a friend to queue, we should kick him.
/tell unlucky member Dude you suck, gtfo this game. Leave the instance or we'll kick you.
/tell guyin mainserver Lol, yeah that was pretty funn11111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111111
/tell guyin mainserver oops, healer died.
I agree with the TC, but only to a certain extent. /tell in instances would only be used when someone is really willing to give some friendly advice with no intention to harass. On reality, most people "giving advice" do it after a party wipe and it's nothing like "giving advice" but blaming someone for the wipe (sometimes wrongly). This doesn't make sense in /tell, so in my opinion, sadly, a lot of people would still make use of the party chat and point the finger at others.
Followed by a report for abuse of the kick system.
People keep going on about how this can be used to harass, but don't seem to want to admit that the people who would do that are people you don't want in the community anyway. Give them the rope and they'll hang themselves. Until then, you're limiting the rest of us from actual quality of life changes in order to safeguard the a-holes that we all want gone.
