I think IGN really dropped the ball on asking relevant questions though...
IGN never ask good question they ask question that anyone would have asked i guess.
never been a fan of IGN's interviews, however they are better then nothing i guess.
I'd love to hear an orchestrated rendition of Final Fantasy 6's opening music.
That'd be a truly beautifull masterpiece being stroked across my audio senses.
Oh wait... I found it:
Such a beautifull tune
Yup I have to agree that's one of the best pieces he's ever done. Even the original version with the moody graphics intro is one of the best game intros ever.

Just LOOK at it. That's you set the mood for a game.
Look up "Terra in Black".
Nobuo is a musical genious (just look at the work done by The Black Mages) but that remix blows the original out of the water.
Meh, nothing I haven't heard before. But at least people are still paying attention to Uematsu-san. I don't think he's given quite enough credit for the success of the Final Fantasy franchise.
What I'd really like to know is whether or not SE's keeping him on retainer for new music in XIV. Nothing against Naoshi Mizuta, he's awesome too, but it'd be nice.
"IGN: What's your favorite song that you've composed and why?
Uematsu: It's hard for me to listen to my compositions equally without remembering all the memories, but I do think "To Zanarkand" is not too bad."
The best song in any FF in my opinion, such a good tune :) Gives me chills to this day.

I actually dont want Uematsu to do all the music for XIV. When the game actually starts making revenue it would be nice if they can get different composers to expansions and stuff. I'd like them to consider Yuki Kajiura~
Oh, winning combination to make winning FFXIV:
Directors from FF3
Game designers from FF7
Nobuo Uematsu for music
FF8 cut-scene creators
Graphics designers from FFX (But still using this engine because it makes things look pretty, but OPTIMISED)
Win (b'.')b
Or Yoko Kanno. The music she wrote for Ragnarok Online 2 is excellent.
Or...dare I say it...Yasunori Mitsuda. Good luck with that, though. :)
But this brings up a good point. Wouldn't it be cool to have different composers with different musical styles to differentiate the expansion packs?
Linkables 1
Linkables 2
I'll always remember the first time I heard this tune <3
Heard the Miku version earlier this year and sat around for a couple of minutes thinking "I've heard that somewhere... and wherever it was I was having a great time whilst listening to it..." then it dawned on me it was from Ragnarok Online!
30 minutes later I was running around stabbing porings on good ol' Ragnarok again XD
Dammit I can't stop listening to this Ragnarok tune now! >.<
Such an addictively happy melody @.@
Not a big fan of his music or any of the FF, Japanese type music. Would rather listen to more western type/style rock music, but it's not going to happen.
The original terra theme is a midi...
So why does it, EVEN NOW, sound more epic than anything I've heard in a video game in the last 10 years?
Let this be a lesson to all these video game companies. It doesn't take an enormous orchestra or a million electric guitars or a giant bass drum to make something sound amazing, it doesn't even require real instruments, it just takes a damned good composer!!!!

Well that depends on what you like, to me its sound awful. This sound 10000 times better http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=poyWs95UYCI
I also have to say:
Linkables
The day I bought FFXIV, I installed, created an account, loaded it up, then this music began playing on the character creation screen.
At first my spine tingled, I'd heard it in many other Final Fantasy games, and it's still as awesome as it's always been.
By the time the track reached 1:25 that tingling became a full blown shiver and I started to cry with happiness.
Music easily affects me, and when this tune hit it's peak I was weeping buckets.
I weeped buckets in FF7 during the Aerith death-scene, both from seeing it unfold, and from the tune. I still can't listen to that tune without crying.
In fact I couldn't even count how many tunes Final Fantasy games have had so far that have made me cry with joy or sadness.
And Eugenics, I know what you mean, Megadeth did a great take on the Duke Nukem tune, shame that it never got put into Duke Nukem Forever like it was originally planned to. I'm a fan of heavy guitars and tunes that make me want to jump up and down and shout, but I'm also open to other forms of music. I love orchestrated music like Final Fantasy games use, I love J-Rock and J-Pop, I love the music they put in anime, and many other musical styles (apart from rap, modern r'n'b and dance, I find them pointless and without any real emotion)
The difference here is rock and pop and suchlike can make something sound good, or amazing.
But orchestrated music has the ability to make something sound legendary.
I am actually not a fan of a good portion of the music tracks in this game, would love to see them add in some tracks from other FF's. Especially the intro to FF6, my fav game in the series.
It depends on whether you're trying to convey childish machismo while you splatter hordes of aliens or the complex range of emotions needed to form the atmosphere of a RPG. In the latter case, you'd be hard pressed to find a better tune than FF6's opening. Of course, the music you propose could be used for things like battle scenes, but it would never set an atmosphere for any kind of typical RPG progression scene.
I think Sega did pretty good with the soundtrack to Resonance Of Fate, awesome game too, though a fair bit of it was also orchestrated. There was a fair bit of guitar in it though.
But yeah, usually:
Electric Guitar = Action games/scenes
Orchestra = Plot sequences/RPG's
You couldn't picture Tifa running around inside Cloud's memory, watching scenes of the past unfold to a tune from Disturbed or Nine Inch Nails could you?
I would like it if Kumi Tanioka provided some tracks.
"Flowers on the Battlefield" was the most beautiful piece from XI by far, including the Sanctuary of Xi'tah, in my opinion. The Star Onions version is just amazing.
She also did the soundtrack for the Crystal Chronicles which was done primarily with actual natural instruments. Really helped pull me into the game more than Uematsu's synth pop. I always wait for them to do an orchestrated version of Uematsu's work, then I'll put that version into the game over the original version.
Not sure what kind of interview questioned you want from Nobuo about XIV, at a concert of his music and other FF music. He's not developing the game, he did his part and did the best job out of everyone working XIV.
But they did say something about XIV when we were there.

Watch the first 30 seconds of this, when he said "they'll get the platform fixed one of these days" you hear laughs in this video, but sitting in the back you should of heard the laughs turn to oooooos, especially with the Square Enix guys right in front of us.
Woot!!!!!!
Loving all the chocobo clips in the background :D
I lol'd at the video, brilliant
Want
Chocobo
NAOW!!!!
6 is really good but 3 is amazing. I honestly think the best aspects of XI were built on things invented in the real FF III the job system, exploration and secrets. There's just something very honest and pure about III's design that makes it a classic. The DS remake is frankly even better than the original in my opinion.
