Hit level 30, unlocked job.. feeling a bit lost and a bit bored

I'm a little lost on what to do honestly. I've leveled most of my classes to 15, got one to thirty finally.. but Exp rewards feel so paltry for everything, even the limited leve quests, that it just feels like a slog. Dungeons are usually my reprieve in MMO's, I've been a dungeon rat for years as it's usually a lot more fun for me. Sadly XIV's dungeons feel excessively long and somewhat unrewarding, seems like they aren't really meant to be done more than once or twice.

Any advice? I played XI for years, which was obviously a lot less sophisticated in regards to leveling options. That said I almost feel like I preferred XI's grinding parties, at least it had a social aspect to it, whereas here I just bounce between leves and Fates by myself for ultimately what feels like very little Exp assuming there are even enough people around to do them, which with Boss fates seems rare.

Fate parties which depending on your server may or may not be hard to come by.

Might just be my server but I think I've only ever gotten a couple of those in over a hundred hours of play and none lasted very long.

Are you in an FC or LS?
If not be more social, knock out some maps instead of grinding dungeons or trying to solo fates.
If you play with more people it may start to be more fun.

Well all the people and fun are on level 50 now.
And yea, only reason to repeat dungeons is tomestones collecting and that happens only at level 50 too.

My advice is to get one job to 50 asap or you will get bored and leave earlier than you can actually start experiencing the fun in this game. Story quests, hunting logs, dungeons (every once), side quests and guildhests should be enough to get to 50 without doing FATEs and Leves (except 44-45 I think, not sure now).

Edit: Nevermind my last post since I re-read your post. I think you'd like the end-game dungeons. All in which, as I said, can be blasted through easily because of speedrunners.
So they don't no time at all in comparison to the newbies places.
Do what everyone else said and get a 50 going. You may have more fun.

Join a FC/LS and find friends and stuffs, makes the game super interesting.

Yeah, you should definitely get one class to 50 before you start leveling all the others because you get a 50% EXP boost for every class after your first 50.

The bonus is for any job below level of your highest, doesn't have to be 50 to get the bonus.

Yoshi-P, the producer, has specifically said the real game starts at 50. By continuously sticking at low level where there isn't any real content you are specifically keeping yourself in the "boredom" zone. Take a job to 50 where all the real content and other players are. You aren't doing yourself any favors by sticking to the low levels forever. Most jobs don't even have their proper identities until the mid 40s when they get their final skills, and many features don't even unlock until you get at least one job to 50 and finish the original 2.0 storyline. Heck even the dungeons at 50 are better and generally quicker than the ones used 15-50.

Fates are almost always up. When one despawns due to timing out or being completed another spawns shortly after. You should never, ever find yourself in a situation where they are unavailable. This isn't a server to server thing either. The game rotates out the fates in each zone with a bit of randomness so that they are constantly popping up.

You should focus one job to 50, as when you get to 50 you get a 50% exp increase. There is a lot more to do at level 50.

Fates IMO are only really worth it once you have the 50% bonus~ Dungeons are the best bet, and if you are waiting for queues, do fates while you wait to make the best use of your time.

Eat food for the 3% well fed bonus and if you are in an FC, see if they wouldn't mind turning on the company action that increases EXP earned via battle.

Why is this misconception so common? You don't need to be 50. I could take a job to 30, go swap to another job and get the 50% bonus up until level 30. You just need 1 battle job higher level than your current battle job to get this bonus. Every player here had this bonus when we had to level our second class to unlock our first job.

While everyone is saying get to 50, remember that it isn't just 50, but completing all the story quests up to lvl 50 (plus two final lvl 50 dungeons) before you can start on end game, which you will probably enjoy more.

the game has been released since august 2013, it's been a long time since there is new content for leveling. first year of the game was pretty different, with many people lvling toghether in fates in almost all zones, either main jobs or secendary. right now most fate areas are dead , except from a few people grinding relic or some areas popular like corethas and north talahan.

however, wait till 3.0 is out, and i think u will see the game coming alive again as people will be trying to lvl up from 50 to 60, but i suspect most of the action is going to be in the new zones.

I also add to what the others said, most people are already 50 now, and they are usually doing some end-game content. there is a lot of content to go thru at 50, and that is where it gets more exciting. for now make sure you do your low-level daily roulet as it has a nice bonus exp, as well as ur daily guild hiest. and also try to do every guild hiest once as it has a bonus exp for firs time. check something called challange log as well as hunting log for even more expierience.

make some friends, join a linkshell or a free company, a lot of them are pretty friendly and active, my own free company like to voice chat on teamspeak or skype for the extra social aspect. once ur 50 u can also join a static for progression raiding wise. and even if your behidn i am sure there is some people still progressing in lower raid content. if not, its not hard to play catch-up if ur in a good fc to guide you throught it.

Yeah honestly you're approaching the game in completely the wrong way, it's no wonder you are bored. You are supposed to just follow the main story, which will take your starting class to 50 naturally, without need for any excessive grinding. After that a ton of stuff gets unlocked and you can start getting into the real meat of the game.

How far are you in the story?

Remember to keep up with your class' hunt logs. Those can be good for bridging level gaps.

The above post is really good advice. Speedrunning your way to 50 is guaranteed to drive you away earlier than you could imagine.

That'll happen when you do the 1-15 exp over & over & over again before progressing further forward with 1 class.

I'm leveling up a monk now and once you hit 30.....omg it takes so long to level up but the good thing is you have alot of options..FATE parties..........main story will get you to 50 with job no problem....i take advantage of the 50% secondary job bonus and resting bonus....ALWAYS.... it lessens the tedium.

Level 50 plays differently to 1-49, 50 teaches you have to play properly :p.

Why does the game really start at cap? I remember back in ffxi there was tons of stuff to do as you leveld. Things like eco-warrior, bcnm's, hunting rare nm's which were in every single zone, helping your nation control regions on the map. Plus as the game went on they added even more mid lvl content like the promy expantion which i think started at lvl 20.

The whole lvl 1-75 in ffxi was soooo much bigger than what we have from 1-50 in ffxiv.

I wish they wouldn't treat the leveling like a tuturiol.

It's because it's not a misconception... you're wrong.

The bonus scales with highest level.

1% bonus gain per level, up to 50.

I don't quite agree with this assertion. those activities you mentioned in XI were only really popular in the first few years. After ToAU, everything was a race to 75 (then 80, 85, 90, 95, and 99 much later on) and people with non-bandwagon jobs had the worst time getting to max level. People stopped caring about the road to the cap and only cared about EXP/hr., which meant excluding jobs that couldn't TP burn and mages who weren't willing to be Cure monkeys.

As for XIV, I don't quite mind 1-49 levels being a large-scale tutorial. Anyone who played XI would probably agree with me that it beats going through the game blind, not knowing what's safe to level on and what isn't. The story quests every 5 levels is a nice touch and is a decent palette cleanser after fighting through dungeons and FATEs.

Uhh... I remember XI and the horror of getting trampled in La Theine Plateau by these little plants. Everyone remembers the pilgrimage to Valkrum Dunes and then Jeuno, right? I had such a hard time understanding /check and the fact that as a WHM, I ate dirt so quickly and so often... it was all trial and error.

I like XIV's style but I think it's way too forgiving in some cases. No sense of danger or risk. You couldn't easily run away from mobs in XI (i.e. camping near zone line for protection, haha!)

It's a nearly a flat 50% all the way up until 2-3 levels from your cap. I even had to look around to confirm this but I've found multiple sources online to confirm users saying the 50%.

So while I may be slightly wrong about the last level or 2 before your current cap the fact remains you do not have to have a 50 to begin receiving the 50% bonus. It didn't sound right when you said it, and everyone I just asked online also agreed. I don't know where you're getting this info from but it's inaccurate.

My guess is it's due to WoW. WoW has very much defined the mentallity of pretty much every MMORPG of the last 8 or so years, and as such the vast majority of MMO's that have come since copy it's mantra of "Rush to Level cap to do dungeons and raid, nothing else matters".

Paltry XP? Unrewarding dungeons? What on earth.............. If you're doing level-appropriate content, I really don't understand how you get that. With dungeons, two, maybe three runs get you to another level (quite often, even one run does the trick). Roulette is also a big boost. As for FATEs and leves, they are obviously meant to be a grind, yet for the small amount of time involved (few minutes, really), they do give a lot. FATEs even more so in a farm party. If anything, it's the Hunting Log that doesn't really contribute to much, I think. The rest of the options though...... You might just be a little burnt out from levelling all those classes? Not sure what you have or don't have unlocked, but there's a dungeon every ~two-three levels, most of which become accessible via story quests. Make sure you do those. And make sure what you're doing for XP is level-appropriate, being synced to lower levels, mainly outside roulettes, might indeed feel slow.

Honestly though, leveling up is extremely easy and fast now. With rest bonus, with food bonus, with everyone and their mothers doing relics/zodiacs... I'd say if you do focus on it, you could get to 50 in about a week. Maybe even less.

That's a load of bull and you know it. Eco-warrior was pointless other than giving a pittance of gil. Most rare NMs were either camped ruthlessly and required a high level, or were entirely worthless and just wandering around because nobody cared. BCNMs are the only leg you have to stand on, but those were useful because some of their drops were downright required for classes, not because they were designed for low levels to do. FFXI was always a race to max level. It was probably just also your first MMO, which meant you spent your time enjoying every minute of it and have a great, although flawed, memory of it.

Do story quests
Do job quests
Do the highest dungeon you can do
Do low level roulette once a day
Look if you have guildhest with bonus reward
Don't forget your hunting Log
Get the challenge Log if you don't have it already.

nothing like that, it's more people don't enjoy anymore the time where you spend countless hours to farm for get a bit of exp. you don't play for face challenge, but for exp. a lot of people hated this.
what you want is like this:

- you are the squire and you play the training time he spend in the barrack to become stronger before go to war.

the other want:

- train fast and join the battlefield.

another point that seems to be out of your sight, even with long leveling, most of your time (if you stick for long enough) will be spend to max level.

and? for get to the 60, you first need to reach 50, if people don't want to reach the 50 it's pointless to talk of the 60 to them.... worst it's even pointless for them to take the expansion. because that the whole point, the leveling it's only a tutorial, it's the vision of the producer and more important the vision of most player around. if that displease you i dunno what to say exept... are you masochist?

Tbh, the dungeons only start getting interesting around Brayflox at level 32. Before that, it just getting the most basic of basics down. But yes up untill 50, it is largley a tutorial. Get a new action and a new dungeon, see how new action works with the others. Proceed to next. Which isn't bad at all imo. You probably should have gotten the one class to 50 with just the needed support classes slighy leveled. I cant think of a better way to early burn out than the method you picked.

I believe the problem OP is experiencing is the lack of other players to clear FATES, rather than lack of FATE spawn. When new jobs are released, they are indeed really quick EXP farming methods, cos you have bazillion people zerging them to death in mere seconds. But when the rush dies down, FATES for small number of players takes a while.

No sorry, I've played alot of FFXI and I still agree with Dimitrias. There was more fillers in between as you leveled. XIV is rush rush rush to 50 then grind grind grind to get everything AT EVERY STEP EVERY PATCH. Surely several-year-old content will inevitably be abandoned, this would happen in any game. But by TOAU the game was already several years old and the world/system well established.

The hunting log gives a total of over 560,000 exp, which is enough to level you from 49-50.

Not bad for just plinking at a few random mobs here and there.

If you leave the entirety of it alone until you reach 49. Which I don't believe is possible even if you're only FATEing.

I don't know, but I remember that till level 40 I basically never had a road-block in my way, just doing quests and one roulette daily is more than enough to get you to 40 without ever running out of new stuff to do.
After 40 it slowed down very slightly, but I only considered the last two levels a grind (easy grind for me due to quick roulette).

Yeah, those last few levels drag on if you aren't doing quests. I was doing a combo of fates and leves in Mor Dhona for a few classes, a few others I just stuck it out in North Thanalan when the zone was hot and fates popped like candy and many players to zerg them.

i agree and it's pretty sad. most of the content below 50 becomes irrelelivant. re-doing trials or guidhiest is not a challange nor its worth it. ffxi had low level BCNM challlanges where u need to work your arse, and u get rewarded with rare items and stuff for crafting.
