Not sure if this has been said before but i feel sprint should be used as a cool down instead of taking TP. Mage jobs having nothing to lose using sprint in fights as a DPS it will ruin you if invig is down.

to be fair there ISNT A SINGLE FIGHT where sprint is requiered to do any mechanic im a monk and i did not come acros a single mechanic in this game (savage included) where sprint was nessesery to pull something off...

I hate sprint draining TP, but what I think is the rationale is that casters have less mobile DPS, so they need faster repositioning to start turreting again.
Well, its true there isnt a single fight which requires sprint... but then again all those have been made with the idea in mind that melees can't sprint mid fight or they are screwed...
Allowing sprint as an OGCD would then free the SE team to make up mechanics that require sprinting... but if it ever were to happen, I would like some reworking on the battle sprinting animations... :|
The only time I can see this seriously turning into an advantage would be PvP but even that is a bit iffy. I have not encountered any situation in game where I felt sprint was a make or break for a mechanic; seems okay for now.
if it drains TP for disciple of war then it should drain MP for disciple of magic at the very least imo (though BLMs would still have it good).
it cripples melee who need it the most. and gives no hindrance to casters what so ever who don't even need it as badly since they're ranged in the first place.
I hope you realise how stupid an idea that is. Melees and casters both need their respective resources as much as each other, but TP can be regenerated incredibly rapidly via auto-attacks whilst MP can't. If casters were forced to use MP for sprinting they would be rendered completely useless whilst melees will have a few hundred TP back in a matter of seconds from auto-attacks. This just sounds like the age old 'I can't have so neither can they' attitude to me...
TP is essentially stamina. It makes sense that sprinting drains TP and it makes sense that only the physically oriented jobs share their primary resource with it. In terms of mechanics there is never a point in the game that truly requires sprinting so there's no argument to be made there. If anything though casters are more likely to actually need to sprint due to repositioning at range requiring players to cover more distance, whereas melees can often just sidestep a few feet to dodge a conal AOE or run right through a boss. Physical DPS jobs also have a multitude of gap-closers and repositioning tools that most of the casters do not.
This is "FFXIV: ARR" TP is not generated through Auto-attacks, it refreshes roughly every 3s for 60tp (in combat).

I wonder why it costs TP to sprint.
That's probably a far stretch, but I did hear that Machinist would need to stand in one place to charge some of their attacks in order to deal more damage. And they are supposed to be Bard's counterpart, being ranged and physical, so they'd be TP based. Buuuuuut yeah, I think that due to how TP work, it's fair that Sprint would work like this. 2/3 melees already have movement-enhancing traits/abilities to help for that, then there are gap closers or teleports and so on.

sure was alot better than how sprint in 1.0 was implemented, where you need a Bard to actually sprint ( and do speed run in Dark hold ). and i have nothing against having sprint in a boss fight, where going from boss to add that normally takes 1 second ( or none if using steel peek, repelling shot, dragon fire dive, teleport! ) becomes 0.67 seconds.
in WOD, after each room i actually sprint most of the time ( even as a tank ), by the time i get to the next room i have full TP again. In DF with casters and whm ( aoe damages ), as a tank, i also use sprint to get from one group of mobs to the next cause i really just need flash! and off Cds.
but just back to the reasoning why sprint uses TP, it adds depth to the dificulty of the game. meaning sacrifice TP over sprint to do mechanic or hope your doing the mechanic just right with out sprint. and for those who is sprint happy, go caster or ninja/monk/brd. Ninja has a permanent 20% speed boost, mnk has OFF gcd fist of wind stance ( litterally cost nothing to dance between stances ), and bard has swift song. it gives theme uniqueness, instead of saying they all the same.

Then have all DRGs not use their cooldowns. It's not needed. Divine Seal? Who needs it. What's an Aetherflow stack?
Sprint does NOT equate to the usefulness of those abilities, including Swiftcast and Raging Strikes.

Was playing around tonight and /did/ notice I do use it to stack for Megaflares (even though cast clipping makes the Sprint toggle when I'm already there; stacking relatively close), and I do use it for Final Phase Earthshakers during the third set (to run behind them). Most of the time, AM treats me a better service. If it works for you, then hell, awesome stuffs honestly. I just don't see the usefulness at all, or at least what TP users believe.
AM is great for some situations, especially when you are in farm mode on content and know exactly where x member of your static will be at when you need to move. When you're new to content or a in PUG, sprint is a whole lot more reliable in many cases. I would say I use sprint multiple times on 7/9 of the current expert roulette bosses.
I agree its unfair it uses all your TP up.
But please dont compare mages and melees in that regard.
Casters need time to cast, melees insta attack. So while casters can get away without using sprint, when maximising stuff it really does help.
Maybe while underaffect of sprint tp regen is boosted so its not such a hit on melees who have trouble with movement.
Would be nice if Sprint didn't waste all TP at once but rather drained it during the duration. 1000 TP amount to 20 seconds of sprint, so if it drained 100 TP every 2 seconds while it's active and we could toggle it off, it'd be a lot better already.
