Is there a reason we can't at least see our own DPS so we can get better as players?

As a console player, I don't even understand the point of striking dummies if we can't experiment and actually see the numbers on whether our rotation adjustments actually help or hurt our damage. I understand SE morally not wanting players to judge eachother by their dps and allow bad players to still have fun, but what about letting us see just OUR dps? I just cannot grasp my mind on why this is still not implemented. How does SE expect us to maximize our contribution to the party when they won't give us the tools to accurately determine if we are playing optimally? SE, why do you hate console players?

I can agree with wanting a personal parser; I'd actually like to develop one as soon as add-on support is added, but :

Sure. BUT...I am simply trying to express my complete shock that I can find no other reason that SE does not give us the tools to refine our play and instead would prefer us to just mash buttons as it is impossible at this time to measure our effectiveness. So, while I do respect and agree with what you say, I am not here to be taken seriously, I am here to ask why SE's lack of foresight is not taken seriously. Instead of giving console players the tools to complete with PC, it seems SE just wants to widen the PC/PS4 skill gap and give PC players more and more reason to shun us. I want to know why.

Yes, again that's understandable. This topic is brought up almost every other day.

BUT

I'm just sick of all the console players who act like they are mistreated. Realize that PC doesn't have an "Official" parser as well. A 3rd party tool is needed which always has risks associated in their use.

Good. This topic should be brought up every day. It is a big deal. If SE announced this feature in heavensward, the crowd would have went nuts just like they did when they saw flying mounts and we all know it.

I don't think any mmo does its own combat parser.

Also I don't think any mmo has addon support when it first launches (iirc secret world was an exception).

So, why are yall being so pushy about "dps meters" being like the most important thing ever?

It'll come when addons come, you can be sure of it. And they've already announce addons. So...what exactly are you complaining about? For now, I'd much rather have other addons, like...I dunno, a HUD addon that doesn't suck, and a good way of tracking dots and procs. Oh, and maybe raid frames that don't suck? Better macro support too. All of those will greatly enhance your experience, far more than a dps meter will.

Also I'm going to go out there right now and say that I hate consoles. Not the players, its not their fault. But man would this game be much better if it didn't have to support the ps3. Disappearing odin comes to mind, as well as debuff limits on bosses (I hear thats been taken care of though?)

Just curious, when you put dps meters in quotes, who exactly are you quoting? No one in this thread said anything about meters. To answer your question though SE's own encounter design emphasizes DPS checks, well...it sure would be nice to have a way to know that we are being optimal instead of just guessing or developing bad habits.

How can you see your own dps without a dps meter...? Isn't that what the word means? A measurement of dps...?

I don't need a meter I just need a little number somewhere saying something like "This Encounter: 500.3" something like that. Customization would be nice but a "this encounter" followed by a real time showing of your current DPS for that encounter is all I would ask for. You dont need some sort of graphic overlay or anything crazy. I know mechanics > dps, but instead of that maybe just give a dps number on striking dummies. I would be happy with that so I can play with rotations and gear. I don't think its too much to ask.

That's. . .a meter. Like, "meter" literally means "measuring device." That's why you have gas meters, water meters, electric meters, odometers, pedometers, chronometers, thermometers, tachometers, barometers. . .

What you are asking for is quite literally a DPS meter. To refute that statement would be to say you don't want a way to measure your own DPS.
The thread itself is titled "Why can't we see our own DPS". To do that, you require a meter.

So the reason Dinah, is because what you're asking for is an addon, and therefore you need...addons.

Regardless of what you call it.

Let me put it this way. Lets say...SE puts out this indicator, this text thing.

How do they get the text thing?

They can either

1. Update it constantly whenever you do any damage, basically doubling the server load (since it needs to send you the damage already anyway).

or....

2. Read the combat log (which already exists), and find your dps.

The former is unfeasible, the latter is literally what every combat meter addon does. You're asking for an addon. Addons are coming. Be patient. SE cannot and will not give you a built in meter because its not worth it, because the infrastructure is already there for you to get it yourself.

In fact what you're asking for is an addon that...does less than what most combat meters do, for no reason.

Actually isn't there already a 3rd party addon that does this? Why don't you grab that?

Actually I am asking for a feature. not an addon. It should be part of the game as a tool that helps dps players hone their craft. And you clearly didn't even read the first FOUR WORDS of the original post. You tell me where PS4 players can get this third party addon. Thanks.

Well as a console player the steps to improving your dps are obvious

1. Get a PC
2. Download the addon

Honestly though I don't see this feature coming, because, again, its already there, you just need a program to read the combat log. I think EVERY mmo has a dps meter addon, and I don't think ANY of them are 1st party features.

Well, the current parsers tend to read the network data, because SE's combat log is a joke. But, yeah, I agree with the rest of that.

End of story: A DPS meter/parse/whateverthefugyouwannacallit is required in any game that has DPS checks.

Why?

Because you need an objective measurement of what brings home the bacon as opposed to 'When I do this, things tend to die faster'. Things die faster under different circumstances, and even with a training dummy with, you know, 2700 hit points, the best measure you have without a parse is how fast that bar empties. You don't get this luxury in a multiplayer encounter.

End of story. Official self parsing should be a feature as long as a hard enrage based on encounter time exists.

I agree a parser in this game should happen. But if it is something that would take awhile to create how about the simple solution of a screen that pops up after a wipe or a duty completed that shows damage dealt? We have it in PvP, why is it acceptable in SE's eyes that we know how much we deal when damaging other players but not when we're damaging an NPC? Surely this wouldn't be hard to incorporate and would give us an idea of our effectiveness in a fight. Would also give us something to look at while we wait for our cool downs to come back up because that's gotten kind of old.
