Well I'm in the minority. I love my job. Sure I would like to see tweaks and changes but a heavy rework? I hope they know what they are doing. Otherwise I would be a very sad Summoner dropping my book for a staff.
seems like they are gonna heavily rework it complete. yes i can imagine some of community minority be unhappy. what do you really think summoner's limit break will be. I for one can see us sending so much Aether into are summon. they become primal like 30 seconds would would be cool. kinda be like final fantasy 12 summoners or 13 summons, they do series of attacks. and drain your limit break bar until empty then finish with a great attack
The only Heavy Rework I'm envisioning honestly is just a massive rebalance to compensate for how SpS is now going to be useful for our DoTs. Since I came back I already dropped SMN but have been slowly picking it back up since the MP nerfs to Ruin/II, I'd rather not drop SMN again because of such
they didn't say small rework. everything you said here would be simple as releasing it on update. when squire-enix says a heavy-rework. you expect a-lot more then what your saying. make sense if we could summon some what primal like beings sense we have midgardsomr's blessing the one who released the primals in first place. one of midgardsomirs sons was bahamut
Bahamut was one of his sons
Tiamat is one of his sons
Nignogg is the one in heavensward
4 we dont know about
Actually, I think you'll find that you're wrong and I'm right.

To be honest I'm a little hesitant about the credibility of that source as it could easily be an exaggeration of what was said.
From the Mr. Happy translation:
The important distinction being a big change with new actions specifically, which to me doesn't sound like the same thing as being heavily reworked from the ground up. More like the job will start to head in a new direction. Likely with greater pet usage. It was mentioned that adjustments will be made to certain existing abilities, but that seemed to be in reference to all classes in a general sense.Quote:
- Summoners/Black Mage will see a big changes with their new actions
I do think SE has heard the cries of the community and the changes we can expect were most definitely influenced by our feedback, but let's not go overboard with expecting a massive overhaul.
It wont be so simple. people have been complaining sense game has been summoner was released. in hopes to silence this yeah they need to rework it. long overdo. SE sees this. not only person comes on here every week rants about how summoner isn't what summoner should be doing.
Finally SE gonna do something about it. the current summoner equality to how final fantasy 14 was before a realm reborn. they now that gonna fix it. final long lost prayers if anything. be answered. then gonna sit there..and listen to players bitch like we been doing almost for almost ever sense summoner calm out. then gonna troll your ass's same way you trolled players who unhappy with current summoner.
I hate tell ya told ya so "very slowly ha.ha.ha.ha"
I'm just going to out and say that, while I am tentatively hopeful, the problem with heavy summon rework is the same as when summoner was first released: they are simply not going to have the data to test and it will be buggy and will require tweaking.
We've had a long time with our current kit and many of the problems from day 1 are still problems now.
So we're going to head into a new cycle with perhaps the same thing, different kit but new problems.
The WoW warlock revamp comes to mind - it was generally well received, but pretty badly tuned for the first 2 iterations.
After having messed around with Summoner for a bit, I can safely say that personally for me the pets are the least interesting part of the job. If they were to rework SMN but make a whole DoT class that worked similarly I'd find that more fun.
Well Ifrit Egi is bigger so technically that would be a big change and a chief complaint since 2.0.
I think people just need to have a little faith in SE. I mean look how Yoshi-P and his team brought back FFXIV from the ashes, and now it's one of the greatest MMO's/FF's of all time! If they can do that then they can definitely bring something new to SMN that works and makes the masses happy. Trust and believe people, tis a glorious day!
thats what am saying . they did it before they gonna do it again. this gonna be huge I seen video's of dragoon limit break. i promise you this summoners gonna have one of highest damaging limit breaks cause it would be a grand summoning or that would allow us to control a primal sized like pet. on battle
say hello to the real ifirit all your comrades is dead the ones you defended betrayed you. you have creater of lesser primals inside you. yup with midgardsomrs assistance you can very well summon a primal
"Heavily reworked" is somewhat hopeful as balance goes. Dragoons and Warriors saw pretty heavy tweaking that very much helped their position, so SE's reputation on this sort of thing is good. Combined with the release of an expansion, there's a lot of flexibility to completely change casting priorities and potencies.
I think anyone expecting the fundamentals of the egis and dots being changed is going to be disappointed. Those are the core mechanics of summoners in FFXIV -- it's supported by lore and quests that summoner branch off arcanists and their rather unusual array of non-elemental spells, and that the egis lower level primals that you can carry around with you. People on the forums need to accept this and either play the job or find something they enjoy. The endless complaining is tedious and not productive.
Sincerely doubt this. Why use any other LB if summoner hits hardest? They're all going to be the same with different animations.
among the possible tweaks that could happen, aside form SpS affecting DoT attacks, are enkindle cooldown reduction and as for limit breaks, it could be your current egi's signature attack. and oh.... the obligatory size increase. XD
It doesn't have to be all in-battle changes either. I would love it if the pet interacted like Pokemon Heartgold/Soul Silver. Have something happen when you use emotes on your pet. How are they affected by weather, what happens if you take them to X. These changes would go a long way to making the pet feel like a pet instead of a glorified perma-DOT.
Reduce the damn enkindle cd to 30 secs, it's a gimpy version of flare anyways 30 seconds isn't that bad. Take away energy drain and bake the mp recovery to aetherflow, or if you keep energy drain make it a groupwide resource recovery. Retool Tri-Disaster and remove the cast time off the dot's or make it so fester does its full damage regardless of amount of dots, just requiring a dot be present so summoners can burst low health adds better with less delay.
I'm actually a little bit unsure about this. It will probably be the case that they're all more or less the same, but BRD is switching types of LB and we're getting 3 all together new ones with the new jobs as well. I expect that they'll be very balanced in that any 2 that deal direct single target damage will deal the same damage, any 2 that deal aoe damage will deal the same damage, etc. They might find it in themselves to add a little bit of variety though, ie. certain limit breaks conferring buffs/ debuffs as well. Of course, it seems that this will only be for LB 3 though since LB1 and 2 are reportedly unchanged. Actually, that makes me wonder what they're doing with BRD for LB1 and LB2... are they grouped in with BLM/SMN, will they need to run up to the mob and attack with their bow as though it's a sword, or will their LB1/2 still be healing?
There's pretty much been a new thread each week that's essentially: "My Bestest Ideas On How To Fix SMN™ (SE PLZ READ)".
If not a thread, then about 10-20 posts about it, even though SE said many months ago that they've changes planned, but to wait patiently until 3.0.
You'll never stop them complaining, ever.
They're like cockroaches; if you step on a SMN, two more will come out of nowhere and complain they need buffs because a BLM could've survived it with Manawall.
I don't think SMN as we currently know it to being a DoT based class will change. However, I feel whatever they add from here on out might influence how we play the class. For example, more expansion on the SMN - PET abilities. There was also something I heard on reddit along the lines of a tweak to Tri-Disaster they were murmuring about on the nico stream.
I just want my summoner to feel, well, more summonerish.
I liked in aion where your nukes weren't exactly you throwing a nuke, but you'd press a command and the pet would nuke for you or execute some special ability.
Let's face it, the pet abilities themselves are pretty crappy. Great, you use a pet command that causes the pet to do an aoe attack weaker than its own autoattack, it's not exactly exciting stuff.
There's also the issue that they stuck the egis in ghettos. If you want egi variety in use, their damage has to be pretty similar, because damage is a premium good and people will always choose it over anything else. So titan egi never sees the light of day outside solo farming.
So normalize the damage among egis so ifrit, garuda and titan do similar damage, but make their usage predicated on the utility they bring. Ifrit could give an offensive party buff and have its stun, titan could give a defensive party buff, and garuda could do an aoe group movement increase or movement while casting buff or maybe group resource regen.
Great, thanks forum community.
If they've changed my favourite job in the game into a dull spammy copy of BLM to appease the whiners here I'm coming for you.
I hope there's either more support elements (like SCH or BRD), or there's more burst damage for dealing with lesser threats.
"Tri-disaster's mana cost has been reduced by 10%."
:D
This is literally all the info this reddit post has to offer concerning SMN.Quote:

I usually find Slycer's translations on Blugartr to be a bit better.
The "change considerably" with mention of "with the new added actions" I think is important. Doesn't sound like they are completely revamping the job, but the new actions will greatly change how it plays.Quote:
* They are reviewing the action rotations for basically all jobs. (Yoshida)
* The black mage skill rotation will be quite different. (Takai)
* Many existing actions will be adjusted. (Yoshida)
* Battles will change considerably for summoner with the new added actions. (Takai)
* It's still secret at this time, but there will be various changes, like to Tri-something-or-other. (Yoshida) [[Tri-distaster, I would assume]]
I also find it very lazy that the OP's source states :When Slycer's is :Quote:
No plans to show TP.

I didn't realize Blue Gartr was still around. I thought they went the way of EJ.
Hopefully Tri-Disaster just puts all 3 Dots up in a single Cast.
Just can't wait to see what new fun stuff they come up with.
You know what really got me hyped, they havent forgotten or abandoned this idea:
SourceQuote:
There is still an implementation plan for the summoning system where adventurers can call a primal. Since there's currently a lot of content already planned to be implemented, it's been moved to the back of the list for now.
Actually summoning THE primal to do their signature attack. This aught to help with those complaining about the Egi's. Should add that to the OP.
An outbreak like effect would cause it to have to have a cooldown (otherwise...why would we ever manually cast dots?) and/or have a prohibitively high mana cost, both of which wouldn't solve the problem of us not having an AoE.
Black Mage isn't a button masher nuke it requires managing procs to limit DPS loss on move. If anything Summomer is the button mashing DoT class spamming ruin. After opening rotation all they can do is spam ruin.
