New to marauder....

sooooo any tips? im kind of confused at why half my abilities are like tanking abilities and everything i have is an aoe. is the class supposed to be like, a tank? im not sure i get that part, or are they sort of "the guy that aoes and picks up loose mobs" kind of offtank?

i mean, i like the aoe for leves and behests, its a lot of fun. just wondering how others utilize the class and all.

like for instance, do i want to keep defender up for soloing? is the defensive boosts worth the loss of damage? is foresight worth it just for that one parry? and how about enduring march and murderous intent, they seem pretty useless to me.

That's MRD. The aoE specialist class (until they f'up this too at 1.20).

Be warned...you will die ALOT until you get used to steadfast. Steadfast is the main trait of MRD...once up (activates after you stay put for 10 seconds in active mode) it drastically increases your parry rate and enhances the effect of several actions, including changing skull sunder and brutal swing from single target to cone AoE.

But steadfast only lasts until you move, so its easy to cancel it...just step back.

Another important point is foresight + fracture. Foresight is a ver good defensive action (specially with steadfast up) and fracture is a very cheap WS that can only be used if following a parry (partially parry also works).

If you learn how to use Steadfast and Fracture, you might be good for a while.

Marauder is a hybrid between melee offense and melee defense, making the class more flexible in combat style.

Fixy you have Thm spells, you should be having a blast on Mrd and probably won't need defender at all unless you're ending tanking an instance for a party.

p.s. Ignore Enduring March, Murderous Intent.

i find all of that simple, my job level is 45 and i steam roll everything pretty much, im not dying at all. i just dislike the idea of foresight because all it is is just one parry for 3 ap when i could something like obsess on my bar. and you never answered, is it worth using defender at all times?

yeah i use a lot of thm spells, stygian and sac and i can go all day.

i use dia to reduce mobs defense and punshing barbs to kill behest mobs easilly.

For some reason its not in my post indeed o_o I do was pretty sure i said defender wasn't needed at all while soloing...my bad.

Foresight does worth using. If you combo it with PGL's featherfoot and have some devent DEX and EVA you can, while soloing melee monsters, sometime finish them without being touched more than 1~2 times the entire fight.

Obcess isn't an action i like much...and since it will be under affinity penalty it just become even worse IMO...i do would put foresight over obcess without thinking twice.

it lasts 45 seconds, so while youre walking around soloing if that so happens to be the case, you get a ton more defense on each mob.

Foresight & Featherfoot are worth it when you tank a boss where every evaded/nullified hit saves your healer mp.

Obsess only works on whatever mob you use it on. So, for the rest of those 45 seconds, you're lowering your defense on every other mob you encounter.

Foresight can reduce damage to 0 every 30 seconds and allow you to use Fracture for high damage and only costing 250 TP and stopping the mob's TP moves while pacified.

So yes, it's worth it

Defender: no
Foresight: yes, not only for its mitigation, but for the fact that it can help to force a proc on Fracture, which is one of MRD's most efficient dmg/TP skills.
Enduring March: its utility is obvious, as Steadfast can potentially be very powerful in some situations, and the ability to maintain it while moving can be invaluable.
Murderous Intent: amazing for ARC, less so for MRD, where the proportion of white damage (or auto/normal damage) to WS damage is far less lopsided.

Obsess is pretty terrible.

oh, i thought it worked on one target in general. the only thing i can see wrong with the class right now is bloodbath. lancers have so much more healing with life surge, bloodbath should probably have a shorter cooldown.

use a special attack that boosts your damage along with bloodbath and you should see a nice boost in HP gained.

I would agree that Bloodbath isn't as functional as Gladiator's Aegis Boon, Lancer's Life Surge/Speed Surge, Pugilist's Second Wind nor THM's Drain. Mostly due to the mob's defense and how much damage you can muster up in one hit(and hoping it doesn't miss) determining how much HP you will get back.

The best use I get out of Bloodbath II is farming weak mobs naked and getting back 950 HP every 45 seconds or whenever I need it. But as for party combat situations, Bloodbath doesn't get a spot on my bar.

Aoe Bloodbath seems pretty nice to me;

On Lnc Bloodbath + Doomspike is full recovery lol

Bloodbath only procs the heal on the first target struck. It caps at 950hp return from what I've seen and you'll only see something that large if farming anyway.

Short story: Yes to Foresight. No to Defender if solo. No to Murderous Intent. Presently am not using Enduring March, used to use it, but could see where it would factor back into my life.

Long: There are more experienced Marauders out there. I'm speaking from my view when partying in leves and soloing, but not from a dungeon run or grind party standpoint.

Defender has been a no go for me (for now). My thought process is, take the enemy out before they get off that high damaging weapon skill or spell. Whether this is an imp and their incantation, a humanoid with a lancer ability, or deny those gnats from teleporting and lightning blast, even though that can be avoided if I'm not doing a weapon skill on an after image.

Murderous Intent did not critical hit enough for me to keep it on my bar. I may give it a second shot.

Back when stamina was an issue and with less action bars, I didn't think Foresight and Fracture was worth it. But when the combat log is filtered properly, you'll find yourself parrying or partial parrying to let you use Fracture, for 250 SP, hitting pretty hard with a quick cooldown. Depending on the enemy, Foresight absorbs an amount of damage equal to Second Wind for me. And it's something I can throw up every thirty seconds and can use before engaging the enemy.

Used to use Enduring March. Haven't had the need lately. Used to use it after Steadfast starts to reposition my Skull Sunder and Brutal Swing AoE. Now I've found a small circular attack radius on those weapon skills, so I've been hitting my targets without the need to adjust and just left it off entirely (for now, will bring it back now that I have the slots).

Leve mobs seem to be the best use of Marauder abilities right now.

Tanking wise, my damage seems to hold enmity for the most (using Intimidation). A recently spawned mob or an imp concealing themselves tends to be the stray mob and a Provoke usually resolves that after wailing on the mage one round. But I imagine being a couple ranks higher than my party members has helped maintain this enmity and I'm not certain what abilities they used, so they could have been reducing their own enmity as well.

so yeah theres no way i could play this class anymore. crap dps and hybrid tank bs is just weird. it really needs a remake. sticking to gla, but thanks warmonger >_>
