"It's your fault for not playing on a less crowded server. Get over it or go somewhere else." seems to be the official (lack of) response.
I'm with you on wanting my own house, though.
I like FFXIV's housing system. Upside is there's an actual community, downside is there is not enough houses.
Would much rather have a community than an empty instanced area
It wont get much better, all small houses were sold the day that housing was implemented. Since then I am waiting.
There are some empty spaces because people who bought them, don't even play anymore...
There are far more con's than there is pro's.
Pro: A HOUSE TO DECORATE!!!!
- Neighbors.
Cons: - Not enough.
- Shared with FC housing...It's anyone's game.
- People who have one, are probably gone for months, thus empty home.
- Prices are ridiculous. Don't care, it's casual content, it shouldn't be like 20mill for a small or whatever.
- Taking too long to implement anymore.
- People can have x amount of houses just to be a--hole's and keep them to themselves.
- People's constant throwback is "YOUR FAULT YOU ARE ON X SERVER!' No one should need to pay nearly $20 for a house.
- We are homeless WoL's lol. After all I've done, I can have a home?
- Lastly and the big thing of it all, it's casual content that should of been for the masse's, not about 1% of the games population
Lol I like how in the pros you act like you aren't at all interested in a house, then go off on how you can't get one.
To OP, SE has said that they will likely be implementing new housing in ishgard, but not until after the expansion. Who knows exactly when, which is disappointing for many. Hopefully with the money they make from the expansion they can invest it in improved housing servers.
How?
I can decorate a house...Which is I want to do? And I like having Neighbors? O_o;...

I've ran my course last year from the amount of disappointment so I don't bother getting too much into it.
It may seem like a small thing but I've been waiting for housing for a long time...I'm still very interested in getting one.
Not like you can do too much in a house dude lol...but hell, I wanna do it! Though my hopes are kinda dimmed because
they dunno when they'll add more anytime soon.
Their replies have left open the possibility that there may be a trickle of new housing wards at some indeterminate point, but they've said their focus is on features rather than availability.
On larger servers, 40m or so can be enough to convince a player to relinquish a small lot (You will still have to pay the NPC price for it). Good luck!
Let me ask this is there any servers with large houses for sale?
Servers with smaller populations may still have lots left, which leads to this elitist "you should just switch servers" mentality some people have. The lack of houses wouldn't really be a problem though if it was simply side content for fun with no actual bearing on gameplay. Unfortunately, SE has decided to lock certain content behind owning a FC or personal house, (at the moment, raising a chocobo beyond rank 10 or dying it's feathers a different colour), and soon this will only get worse once Heavensward is released, where the player needs to build an airship to access new expansion areas and participate in upcoming content (airship battles?) - which SE has said can only be done by using a basement attached to a house.
Now, if they brought in an alternative means to access this content (like, a communal chocobo stable for raising chocobos without a house, or an airship workshop run by Cid to build player airships), this would solve this potential problem. But right now, as it stands on Legacy servers like Balmung where there are no free plots at all, there will be the very real risk that a significant portion of the player community will be locked out permanently of certain content -not a good thing for a game that is selling itself as a game for casual players.
Either way, I really hope Yoshi and the development team have another look at this serious issue and find ways to address it, if not by adding more wards then maybe alternative means like the ideas I suggested.
Even the server I'm on has no housing plots left for sale. Yup, it's about time for them to add more plots. :P
Coeurl has medium and large lots available
Jenova has plenty of lots open. There's a medium I have my eye on to upgrade to (from the small) for 9.3mil.
But yes, housing seems to be a problem (especially on large servers). But even on low-pop servers that have plenty of open spots, the houses that are purchased are ghost shacks.
Most don't have outdoor furnishings besides the chocobo stable, and I only have about a 1/50 chance of actually seeing someone when I near my house or at the MB.
I've honestly given up on the hope that I will ever have a house... It's just too bloody damn expensive and I hate crafting, always have in every MMORPG I've played, so I basically only get gil if I am willing to grind soul bonding for materia (something so mind numbingly boring that I only do it when I'm drinking... thus successfully obtaining numb mind status *cough*). I don't really do soul bond grinding very often as I have work 5 days a week, and so I don't want to spend the little bit of playing time I actually do have, doing that horrible task (or having a hangover at work lol). So the only other option I can think of is to sell gear I guess.
I honestly think housing should be instanced. I almost never even see anyone and rarely talk to people when I go to my free company's house. RP can still be enjoyed in instanced housing plots, it's done in RIFT, and I don't see the big deal in it being done in FFXIV too.
I find the whole housing debacle quite sad. On the one hand they clearly put a lot more thought/time/energy into designing XIV's housing system. On the other hand it feels vastly inferior in terms of actual enjoyment by the player base compared to XI. The neighborhoods are pretty but empty. You can customize the interior more but there's no real point to ever checking in on your home.
I LOVED my mog house in XI. Was proud of it despite everyone having one. My place in XIV, while more difficult to get just feels "meh" when I walk in. They used to hype the hell out of housing pre-launch. Yet now it feels like their design crashed and burned so their just pretending it doesn't exist anymore.
With the way they implemented the subdivisions I thought it left the door open to inject more subdivisions easily and more often.
But instead of adding more plots I would prefer for inactive owners to free those plots. That would also help some wards to stop being ghost towns and having actual people on them.
Our FC house is enough for me. I am on a high population server and all the lots are taken, but our FC is active and there is a lot of activity at our FC house...and our in game neighborhood for that matter. I guess what I am saying is, even if I had a house, I would be socializing at my FC's house anyway. It is a large house, with all the bells and whistles and it is good enough for me! I bought one of the personal rooms and that is where my toon crashes at night.
I doubt the powers that be deem any housing related issues a "serious" issue anyway, as the whole thing is basically an optional minigame within the game anyway.
I'm just guessing here, but when the new housing areas launch, they'll sell out immediately because people have been saving up since 2.38 (personal housing).
They really need to make personal housing instanced, and leave the current housing to FCs only.
I don't know the technical stuff, but Wild Star seems to have instanced personal housing down pretty good.
Haven't touched it since beta, but it was a launch feature. Plot was given to you free when you reached your hub town (a personal floating island), building a house on it cost money, with bigger houses naturally costing more, and some styles requiring alternate currency (i.e. Wolf Marks/GC seals in FFXIV). Visitor access could be public, friends only, or a separate friends list called "neighbors," which also caused their houses to appear in the same area as yours.
But WildStar was spec'd for that style of housing from the beginning. FFXIV was spec'd for non-instanced housing, and thus even though their design was more or less a complete mistake on every level, they can't undo all the work they've already done and change it into something else.
My main gripe with houses is that certain things can only be grown in a garden.
As they say "the rich get richer"
We need slums under the main cities for us poor folk to live.
I"m just glad that I got my "personal house" before SE released them - by solo leveling a FC up to level 6. It's really sad that housing has been so screwed up because there is great content that isn't accessible otherwise (gardening, choco raising, choco dying, decorating, ...). The new expansion will also introduce airship building but it's not clear to me if this will be possible in a personal house (despite it having a basement) or whether it will be FC only. Either way, I should be covered.
Originally SE did plan a way for unused plots to get reintroduced into circulation, but people complained and it was never implemented.
A non-instanced limited supply of housing without a method to put unused houses back into circulation - end up with all plots filled and a lot of the houses aren't even used.
Empty gardens, empty stables, or some even not furnished at all inside or outside.
I had always been in favor of the Aion housing system (I use Aion because it is also a non-instanced limited supply housing system).
It had a way of re-introducing houses back into the system and instead of ward system where each of the wards look the same, it was a huge open housing area map with different districts with different environment all in the same zone (plus a few houses in the normal outdoor area).
I, for one, don't care for neighbours.. There's never anyone around! I just want a nice house to garden, decorate and just chill with my small group of friends. I am very disappointed on how they handled this, it's a feature that should be available to everyone.
I don't know maybe have free instanced houses for people like me, and keep the houses that has wards payable. You could even just have it instanced until you can afford the plot, and move it there when you have Gil's or when plots become available at least we get a damn house!
Housing was one point in getting this game, I'm disappointed by how it has turned out. Say one thing then down the road something different is given. I tend not to take what is announced as set in stone anymore. As i had understood it, every player would be able to have their own house. Plots shouldn't have been sized locked either. Like they say : Promises, Promises.
They should really separate personal and FC housibg wards. Makes no sense that some market board moguls go and buy a mansiin of their own and many fresh FCs get left without any housing due to starting out late.
Also, they should put houses of people who go awol for extended periods of time and give the profit to the guy who owned it and return the furniture to him as a mail or something.
They could also make instanced personal housing, but a lot of people to seem to be against that even if the current system locks 99% of the people ever getting a house.
Houses for sale* +typoes* fawking gimped phone forums not allowing to edit.
I didn't like when they did open up unsold houses in FC wards to individuals. I felt like that screwed over FC's still looking to get a house. Now FC wards are mixed wards, and subdivisions added afterwards. FC wards were supposed to be just that, FC wards.
