My gear currently is at lvl 80. Coming back into the game has made me excited, ready to play, and clueless. I have no idea where to go for new gear. Should I continue with coil or is there a different path to get better gear?
I just transferred from ps3 to ps4 and trying to learn how to use mouse and keyboard to play and when I am solid I want to be competitive again. Thank you for the help!!!

In your case because final coil will become duty finder-able it will be a great chance to collect end game gear, but it will be easier to obtain gear via poetics. If you farm final coil when it gets released on March 30th that will help your gear ilevel, but will require a ton of practice and understanding. relic weaponry is also a great choice to but takes a lot of time to acquire. Shiva provides a nice weapon at ilevel 115.
If it's specific stats you are worried about, it depends on what you want to do. STR based warriors are very hot right now. Determination and accuracy for Paladins who are looking for additional damage for aggro control. Also parry Paladins for damage reduction (Not as popular, but amazing damage midigation for large dungeon pulls.)
I'd say poetic gear is your best bet or World of Darkness gear if you are not in final coil. -

poetic tomestone (current weekly capped one) gear and the new crystal tower (world of darkness) are easily obtained and theres a weekly quest for all 3 crystal towers that gives the option to upgrade one of either the right or left side poetic pieces from 120 to 130.

Thank you very much for this information :) this i\will help me go far for awhile. I am mostly looking for aggro gear i perfer to main tank in runs so even if i have to side tank i can take over really quick. -

I would suggest running Syrcus Tower a few times. This instance is solo-tank, in other words, any tank gear you find will be yours (no weekly limit in this raid), and really, they drop easily. This will make you approximatively ilvl100 (only main gear, no jewels in Syrcus).
This will unlock you plenty more contents :
- ilvl 90 dungeons (after you've completed the 3, will unlock daily expert roulette > 35+40 poetics tokens in bonus, if i recall well). Those i90 dungeons also loot i100 gear, including jewels, to complete what you already have, good enough while you have to wait a bit for more i100 or i120 that you purchase in Mor Dhona
- Access to WoD (see above), where you can get a piece of i120 gear every week + 1 item from a mor dhona quest that enables the upgrade 120->130 for poetics equipements. -

people suggesting you run fcob and wod are wrong, why well cus your ilvl is way to low for fcob and you need i90 for wod.
poetics drops everywhere, nearly all content gives some but the newest dungeons and roulettes will reward the most.
go run st a bunch it will give you tomes you will get rolls on i100 gear you can get sands of time oil of time and unidentified allagan tombstones (uat). all needed to get easy to obtain 110 gear.
if you didn't finish t5 then get it done and youll be able to start farming t6-9 with some practice to get other choices in 110 gear.
once you hit i90 or higher and have wod unlocked you can go in there but you wont be mt really cus everything hits pretty hard, doable but will be harder on you, even more so if your using anything less than an i100 weapon, although really you want 110 or higher. the gear that drops in wod is on weekly lockout right now but its all 120 so once its unlocked it will be what you want to run for full 120 left side, and use poetics to get right side, this way youll max your ilvl quiker and can eventually replace your left side pieces if you wish.
it should be noted whilst running nearly any content you will get soldiery tomes as well, these can be used to purchase i100 left side and right side gear from aurianna in md, these items can be upgraded with those st drops sands/oil of time and the weapons with uat and sand of time. they are upgraded in north shroud and once upgraded wil be 110.
this was my method for my alt and I hit 110 in 2 days with barely any farming, -

Focus the 3 parts of Crystal Tower for left side gear (head, chest, legs, waist, feet), ST will be a good starting point and eventually WoD for a once-per-week drop (soon will be farmable). In ST also pick up a Unidentified Allagan Tome to get your ilvl 100 (upgrades to 110) weapon to get you moving. Relic is good, but time consuming, I'd have that going on in the background, doing it when I don't want to be doing other things. It'll be a while before it compares to your UAT weapon. Soon the ironworks weapon will also be available to people outside Final Coil.
Use Soldiery and Poetics on your accessories. This is because. Crystal Towerr doesn't have accessories and accessories cost fewer tomes, gearing up both sides efficiently. This won't be the ideal stats but that's less valuable to you than catching up will be. After that to improve your stats; Unless you KNOW you can be in Final Coil soon (taking a carry), I'd aim for T9s Accuracy Cap (meaning you want about 512 accuracy). And don't go above that, it's wasted stats. Parry is the only secondary tank stat, some people argue that it's not viable, I think they're very wrong but decide for yourself. After that favour DET > Crit > Skill speed when picking upgrades via Poetics and maybe WoD. -

Find an active hunt ls where you can get allied seals and sol tomes. I went from ilvl 70 to ilvl 100 in full weathered gear in just 2 days.

The World of Darkness has been adjusted as follows.
The weekly limitation on items from treasure coffers in the World of Darkness has been abolished.
Basically means: Roll 'Need' in everything - when using the class; Roll 'Greed' in everything - when not using the class.
Free i120 gear in a day... Tho it'll be a pain the arse to run WoD like 10 times lol -
