NPC: I don't really like au'ra or you outsiders. But right now u got a bigger problem on my hands.
During the battle, the dragons pooped on my house. I need you to go collect their... Droppings. Five should suffice.
If you're not going to do this then just leave! Our hands are full enough with the dragons as is, to deal with you (furries/dragon lovers/outsiders/midgets)
Yoshi has made then more seem like voidscent rather than dragonkin, in fact Im pretty sure they said the Au'Ra are not Dravanian. Which would mean the Ishgardians would have no more a problem with the Au'Ra as they would anyone of the three city-states.
Not sure, but I imagine whatever happens in 2.55 will involve the Au Ra helping to save Ishgard alongside us players.
The real oddity of course will be playing 2.0 content as an Au Ra. I wonder if they will add in some quest text that mentions your race, as there are currently quests in the game that occasionally mention what you are. Playing through Coethas storylines about dragon cultists will be odd as a half-dragon man. Reminds me of the weird quests in WoW when they added the Worgen werewolf race.

Between the full-blown Dravinian assault sending everything to hell in a handbasket and various Ishgardian nobles trusting the player/Scions, they won't have the time/choice to worry about it aside from a round of harrumphs and insults.
This.
While everyone, and even myself seems to call them dragon-people, they're apparently more like demons than dragons.
And I'm sure Ishguard is a-okay with a demon hitting them up for some sidequests. Nothing wrong with a demon or two running around your city.
i'm still wondering where people are getting this idea.
He was saying it's possible to give player-made Au Ra females an appearance similar to the succubi models, implying more "mature" sexy and less "cute/waifish". He never said they were demonic.
Add to that, it kinda goes against the theme.
The void isn't really mentioned anywhere else in anything remotely related to Heavensward. To have the Au Ra be demonic in ancestry is so far out of left field I really think anyone who thinks so is reaching for straws that just aren't there.
It'd be like having a Jungle expansion where we fight marauding monkeys alongside rat people and introducing a new race as...birdfolk from a completely different continent that is never named nor referenced.
Let me break this down nice and easy, this concept of narrative verisimilitude. Warning that this'll be LONG.
Going back to EQ1, the first race added in the first expansion was the Iksar, a race of lizard people VERY heavily tied into the lore of the new continent, and had their physical differences equally explained and expanded upon. Following that, 2 expansions later saw the Vah Shir, another race intrinsically tied to the location the expansion took place on, and a race that was referenced as far back as the vanilla version of the game. Frogloks were also added during a turbulent time involving trolls, but that expansion is also not very well received sooo. Finally, the most recent were the Drakkin, a race of dragon-kin tied intrinsically to dragons in an expansion featuring dragons.
Next we have EQ2, which introduced Fae in an expansion involving a very "fay" location called "faydwer" that also played a big part in the story. Next the Sarnak were added in an expansion again having to do with the aforementioned iksar. I won't get into the 3 "intermediate" races since they weren't added as part of expansions, though the Aerakyn were part of the content that was being addressed at the time.
Then we move on to WoW, which added the Blood Elves and Draenei during an expansion heavily featuring them taking center stage. Next they added the Goblins and Worgen, who embodied the changes coming to Azeroth at the time. Finally (for now) there were the Pandaren, added with their continent.
Star Trek Online added Romulans during an expansion centering around Romulans.
In short, it doesn't really make sense to add a race that has nothing to do with dragons in an expansion centered on dragons.
But he did:
Quote:
With the Au Ra, this includes both female and male, the emphasis during character creation is on the horns. You'll be able to focus heavily on creating the horns. The face structure, for this race, is a little different than what you're currently familiar with. There is a certain direction that isn't really reptilian, but more succubus-like, or demon-like.
When we were considering the options, there were mentions of making female Au Ra more stocky and buff. However the data that's been complied about what race and gender are being used, indicate that Hyur Highlander females and Roegadyn females are not used by very many players. We definitely took that into consideration when finalizing the design of female Au Ra. To reiterate though, there is the option to make her more demon- or succubus-like.
only one thing to add....demon don't have scale on them body.
and the talk was about the customization of the race more than the origine of the race. he did explain how it was possible to create a wide variety of Au Ra depending of your choice. and that they was sure to make different type of horn available, anyway, for come back to the subject.... i think we will have all the answer next tuesday with the 2.55 and the end of the 2.X story.
Au Ra are probably Shiva's offspring with dragons. Female Au Ra will have a horn option that resembles succubi horns. That doesn't make them voidsent. That's like saying a rhinoceros is an insect because it has horns like a certain type of beetle.
Well, Yoshi-P said they are more demon like when he was talking about them. Which would make them more akin to Voidsent.
Also Demons can have scales:
This is Belial a demon from hell, and he would like a word about not being able to have scales.

Also, I thought they were leading that that Shiva and the original Dragon had Dragon offspring as in she gave birth to the other cardinal dragons. (that was my interpretation anyway)
I can't wait for there to be some Ishgard NPC who gets asked why Au Ra are allowed in town, and they get super-offended and go, "EXCUSE ME, our war is against the DRAVANIANS. Au Ra are just dragon people. We will NOT be referred to as RACISTS. Mind your manners, adventurer. "
Is this taken from the PAX East panel? Because I saw that panel, and after reading that it is JUST talking about making the characters more succubus or demon LIKE. He was using the in-game references we have to indicate a design choice you can make when creating your character. This is likely something lost in translation a little bit, because his original speech said absolutely NOTHING about their origins having anything to do with demons. He said "succubus" in references to facial features. He also says "reptilian." He was assuaging fears that they'd all be lizard-like.
"Can make her more demon-like" in no way has anything to do with their origins. It's the same way you can make Lalafell more "Doll-like," but they weren't born from the union between Raggedy Anne and a human.
This was my source, a personal interview to Yoshida from Crunchyroll. I guess it all comes down to whether they lied or not.

This.
Looking like a demon doesn't make one a demon. It's been stated several times that Au'ra are dragonkin (or whatever you want to call them). They are not demon at all.
Yoishi-P said that since the majority of the player base doesn't play female Highlanders or Roegadin they scrapped the idea of making the female Au'ra look like them bulky 'landers and Roes. Instead, they chose to make them more similar to your average japanese game girl, but with the options to add some demon-like features (such as long, curvy sexy horns) to make them look less similar to midlander hyurs. Closest thing we have to that in the game are succubi and demons, because dragons are ugly. That's it.
It hasn't though. That's what most of this debate is about. It makes sense for them to be draconic/dragonkin of some sort, but it has never been officially stated. We will probably get some closure either next week, when Yugiri reveals her face or when the benchmark comes out/they finally update that darn website.
Thinking about it, I just realized that we really have no idea where the playable Au Ra are coming from. They didn't all come with Yugiri from Doma, or we would have seen more hooded people running around. This is a crazy idea, but what if the Au Ra are already IN Ishgard? Like, the clergy have known about them since back when Shiva was around, and they have secretly been a part of Ishgard society and culture for a while. While that's a real longshot, the fact that Ishgard is closed off from the rest of the world might hide their presence, and it would explain why they are suddenly abundant in heavensward.
It's kind of like in a movie when you find out the leaders of the government are all vampires, or that the government has been silently tolerating aliens living among us. The racist Ishgardians have been doing foul things due to evil influence, the dragons begin a new war in retaliation, and only the hidden half-breeds in the city are able to rise up and stop the fighting.
I love the click bait form of a title, it's really like I'm on facebook or Kotaku.
No
first, Shiva lived not longer than 1500 years in the past. Too short of a time to bring out a whole race.
second, Odin met an Au Ra before Ishgard existed (he have his sword from an Au Ra)
third, the Au Ra come from another continent and have no connection to Dravania.
If i rember it right, Yugiri said they (she and the other Domans around her) are the first group of refugees and that more are coming. It can be that she is just the only Au Ra in the first group and that the other Au Ras are still on the refugee ships.
