The Future Of Elemental Stats

So we all know that the coming revamp to battle will affect the attributes, but does that mean they will change how elemental attributes will work as well.

Something I liked was this idea Tanaka had about how some mages would be categorized as Fire Mages or Ice Mages for what they focus their elemental stats on. This is something I would like to see coming since it seems like a good idea of customization beside basic attributes.

So what will it be, will Elemental Stats will modify magic potency, magic accuracy, resistances or maybe they may even add an additional effect to attacks when it reach certain level?

nice timing. elemental attributes will be gone next patch. It says attribute points will be back in 1.20 but not element points.

I wonder what will determine what shards harvesters find now. Perhaps they will only find the two associated with their abilities now?

Disappointing to be sure. The ability to control elemental affinity was a major portion of my gameplay from DoM to DoL to DoH.

Each region has a default shard that you get more of. Increasing elemental affinity in other elements currently over-rides this if the affinity is high enough. I believe La Noscea is wind, Thanalan fire, Shroud Earth and Coerthas ice.

But now it seems like you said they may take out the whole thing altogether, but it seems hard since gear still has the elemental stats on them so maybe in the end they plan to rework them on resistances only it seems.

I figured it would just become similar to 11's system where you have a base elemental resistance stat depending on your level (although in 11 the base number was hidden), but in 14's case this would be affinity and boost that element's damage and lower damage from the element it's strong against.

My guess is they are trying to remove them completely and add gear that affects resistance and damage.

Even so they havent said anything about it. Unless they are stating that attributes and elemental stats are the same, just wish we could hear something about what they gonna do with it like what they are saying about other stats

To speak directly to the obtaining of crystals/shards, Foxclon was able to speak to Yoshida and the development team about alternate methods of acquiring crystals/shards after the removal of elemental point allotment in patch 1.19.

By equipping gear with elements, crystals/shards of that element will appear more frequently, so once elemental bonuses are removed, crystals/shards can be acquired through experimenting with gear. Players can also equip accessories with elements, and by using the materia craft system in patch 1.19 they will be able to attach elemental materia to weapons and armor.

So you can still obtain crystals/shards with the elements of your choice after patch 1.19. I will also forward your questions regarding elemental affinity after patch 1.19 and I will be back when I receive an answer! ;)

Just by curiosity, how do you guys pick which thread to respond to and which to ignore?

Ok so gatherers could have multiple sets of gear depending on their needs for crystals that day. Most people probably have 1-3 sets of gear for DOW/M and a set for crafting gear. Where is all of this inventory space going to come from?

I think what she was trying to say is, This is how we can target crystals until the Point Allotment system is reintroduced post 1.19.

I thought I read somewehre that only attribute points were coming back but not elemental points. So post 1.19 gear will influence shards. I need to try and find that.

They dont ingnore threads at all. They respond to threads they have an answer from the Dev Team mostly and hot topic threads they confirm they have forwarded our thoughts.

Funny. I never felt in control of anything with the allocation of elemental stats in this game. I liked the idea but to my knowledge, the workings of this feature, something people understandably are sad to see disappearing, were never there. I would've liked it very much if the changes now being deployed in the game had been able to correct the elemental system's malfunctions. Much better to fix the original idea than to eliminate the allocation of elemental statistics altogether. But I guess the new dev team decided it wasn't going to work no matter what... or something. I look forward to more of this being clarified.

I don't like the feeling that elements are not strong influences in this game. Far too many times the overall elemental profile of a monster (even elementals themselves) is far too ambiguous to be useful in battle. And sometimes it seems to shift from one moment of the fight to another. I have significantly hurt fire elementals with fire spells, which doesn't seem to make much sense, but a couple of seconds later, the same spell would be resisted completely. Sometimes an apparently-fire-biased ability, like Absorb Attack, works wonders in a drake, and sometimes it fails. I've seen fire mobs resist wind spells (which in this game has supposedly supplanted water as the thing that will douse fire,) or even water ones, only to succumb to lighting or even fire. I posted several times about my puzzlement as to what the elemental bias determined by the point allocation did, but never, not once, did I get clear answers or pointers.

So if this is what we're losing, I can't say I'm sorry. However, I wish the system had once worked as it was intended to. But for it's problems we cannot really blame the new development team. Again, this is one of those wonderful ideas Tanaka seems to have had for his game blueprint... ideas he never figured how to balance and make functional in the actual game.

Yup. Those who pick what to respond and what to ignore are the dev team. Community reps just pass by the messages and accept the punches and kisses that might come in response from them.

That's why i like them! ^^ They do their job even if this means they being in the line of fire.

As mentioned with the crystals and shards comment I posted earlier in this thread, and of course DoctorMog’s post ;), elemental stats will be acquired through equipment and Materia. And remember, Materia will modify other enhancements as well, not just elemental stats!

I'm assuming it enhancing other effects is the fire dmg part in that lodestone post.

In that case i have the following question. will elemental points see any kind of growth when leveling up?

Or are we going be relying on racial starting stats and then raising our elemental points from then on with gear bonuses and materia?

Just to be clear, what were are being told is that, we will no longer from this point foarward, have the ability to adjust out elemental stats outside with points and will be fully restricted to doing so with materia and gear only ?

Oooo, I really hope the effect of Element+ Gear and Materia y really substantial. We need really strong reasons to pick it over INT, for example.

Really liked specializing in two or so elements, I wonder how this will work out now that I'll be packing even MORE gear for ever occasion.

So basically if you're a melee you have to gimp yourself with elemental stats in materia and gear to get shards.

Yeah, I hate this idea. Last thing I want out of this game is to lose options. EQII ruined it for me when they did this with resist and stats. I too prefere to have 1-2 elements I specialize in. It will realy annoy the heck ot of me if they take that away.

Eh, no?
As melee, you find your shards from the monsters you killed (if you need wind shards, go and kill wind element monsters)

There's gear that boosts elemental affinity by a lot as it is, earrings and circlets off the top of my head, that can help influence specific shards.

@Coglin just focus your specific elements in the Materia you set. I'm personally going for Fire/Wind/Thunder potency since those were the ones I'm focusing on currently, with some healing magic potency and enmity down (if those 2 are available) thrown in as well.

Agreed, It would be nice if Elemental Affinity was a coveted stat, not just something you put up with.

Agreed. As a new player, being forced to allocate not only attribute points but also elemental stats is a worry to me. Like with Ragnarok Online, I'm scared that if I don't follow a specific build then I've essential ruined my character until I can fully reset said stats. At the beginning of the game, these are not choices I want to be making when I don't even understand the purpose of the stats I'm making decisions about.

Having these stats dependent on gear reduces the consequences for bad decisions and means that I can make these choices when I properly understand what they will entail.

Caliburn, you do realize you can reallocate stats in this game right? Your more restricted by geting your affinity with gear then you are via stats by far.

Someone made a comment earlier about jewelry and what not that boost affinity. So what? Now I am supposed to be forced to lose all my mind/piety I have from those items to keep my affimity with water/ice up where I like it? I do not feel thats reasonable. This is supposed to be an armoury system with player allocated stats and affinities in which players have total control over there character build and the role they play. This is a step in taking some of that which draws me to the game away.

Will this mean that if you want to be the strongest mage of fire element then you have to equip all set of gear with fire attribute?

I hope the future trend of black mage doesn't need 6x set of gear to be recruited btw... (you gotta be best at all element or you are useless.. some sort like that..) :S

Fire and Int. And don't forget MIND. Without the MP, your power is powerless ^^
But you wouldn't make great damage on wind monsters (fire is weak against wind).

Since they're removing the accessory point limit (and maybe removing a couple of accessory slots)

Does the dev team also have plans to address the additional strain on our inventory extra earrings/rings/etc will likely cause?

Like... are there plans to add more item inventory space? (not retainer.... although an additional retainer would be nice too) but my main concern is the items we lug about on our characters.

Yes, but this is limited to a certain amount of points each go on a timer.
