Post 1.19: Do you realize the potential if stats work?

What if after 1.19 with the removal of Physical Levels and adjustments, stats actually work?

Would that mean that as a PUG I could raise my Earth to 174, put earth materia on all my gear and do insane and unavoidable damage with Seismic Shock?

Or a MRD max out Wind stat, add wind materia, and sport a Storm Ax then wreck havoc on every mob in sight with Iron Tempest?

Could this mean the post 1.19 CON will be unleashed as a true mana burning nuking wizard maniac?

If stats would actually work, this game could go places

Stats do currently work, although point for point, the effects are very subtle.

I think it was also mentioned that each class will be getting less overall stats, unless I'm mistaken. They're not gonna fix them to the point where they break game balance, so I think you might be a little overly optimistic.

Either way I can't wait. This will mean that stats from gear will actually make a difference now, not to mention class specific stats.

Unfortunately, the one thing I'm pretty sure of is that it's going to crush my crafting ability or at least noticeably result in a lot more fails. Level 50 with a bunch of rank ~25ish crafting jobs.

holyomen, I don't know how that would work out, But it would be neat if you could do that.

P.S. the way you wrote the OP was very nice, short and it made me imagine it happening in a comic book.=)

I think what the OP is trying to get across is that since stats are so watered down and they don't make that much of an effect, if stats DO begin to matter and players find ways to stack particular stats will we see incredible numbers.

Personally, I think so. Right now the game is balanced so that a player with 5 50s can still be on the same level as a player with only 1 50. This means that one MRD could have 174 STR and the other could have only 100 and in order to make things fair the 174 STR MRD can't be doing triple the damage.

Now that it will be corrected that, for example, every out-of-the-box r50 MRD has 100 STR there will be no need to balance one MRD to next. In turn this means if MRD A uses gear, materia, skills, etc to push his STR up to 150 (150% what it should be for his level) he will be able to see a very dramatic increase in damage.


EDIT: I just wanted to add in that I'm expected to see something similar to Chi Blast stacking from XI when we can stack elemental stats. Back when a MNK would load up on as much MND as possible + 15 Boost to get off a several thousand damage Chi Blast lol

I was under the impression that with phy levels gone stats would be automatic for each job. Ex. gld would have highest vit. Am I wrong?

I understood what the OP was saying.

But if you ask me, the only things that might get a boost are elemental attributes (seem to be more or less broken now) and fixing magic tiers so that t3 is stronger than t2 is stronger than t1.

As far as physical attributes go.. I believe 174 STR (or whatever the cap will be then if they change it) will still be equal to the damage we see at 174 STR now, maybe a slight boost. But the lower we get away from cap the more pronounced the effects will be, in a negative way. So let's say you have an r50 with 15 VIT now, after the update you will likely be one-shotted by anything of equal level.

Or maybe I'm being overly pessimistic.. We don't know for sure yet. But I'd rather expect the latter and be pleasantly surprised if it does end up like Holyomen is hoping, rather than expecting what Holyomen is expecting then end up extremely disappointed.

It's SE we're talking about here, c'mon lol..

Even as sketchy, gruesome, and mangled as SE's "adjustment hammer" is, they still have a tendancy to set things straight sometimes lol. I've come to put a decent amount of faith in that any time SE "fixes" something they have to initially wreck the entire system violently, but then they somehow build on it and make it work decently.

Yoshi also mentioned both re-balancing stats "and damage calculations" and the second part is what interests me. Right now theres a pretty primitive Attack/STR vs Defense/VIT calculation that goes on which is what allows for GB to take 10 damage from your hits but a marmot can take 2000.

If they were to take the current skewed system where DDs have 174 STR and 15 VIT and used that damage as baseline for the new damage formulas. Then adjusted all the stats down to non-broken levels and implimented a more proper damage system I think everyone would be well rounded and allow for visible growth through stats. Who knows though, I'm sure they won't "break" the damage to where we are doing 9999s to things but at the same time I think the whole purpose of materia and new high end gear is to let players aim to achieve bigger numbers.

Overall I'm just excited that stats will have a visible impact and that I can put together proper gear sets :3 Hopefully different damage types see more center stage too. I always liked how in XI you could change from a blunt to a piercing weapon against a particular monster to inflict more damage. XIV has a lot of potential for this because weapons have divided damage types. It'll be interesting for sure lol.

Totally, 100% agree with you Razor.

I'm more exited about the fact that stats will actually work on a point for point basis than the possibility that we might get a boost in damage as a result. Gear will finally mean something and people will think twice before reallocating stat points to extremes.

I'd also love it if we could redo all our points on a reset, but that probably won't happen.

Hmm, I just reread the most recent Letter from the Producer, and it seems you are correct.

From patch 1.19 till patch 1.20 it seems stats will be automatically distributed based on character level. It won't be until patch 1.20 that we will be able to reallocate them ourselves again.

Actually I'm fairly certain STR/DEX etc stats only boost your HQ rate, and they have nothing to do with success.

You are not mistaken. It was written in the blueprint /ok

If we get less points to allot, i imagine we will notice the changes much more, but will probably be at the same strength as we are now. Very rough, theoretical example;

Current
Lv 2 glad has 8 points to allot. (4 per level)
He puts all 8 points in to str and now hits a mob for 50 HP. Before he alloted those points he hit for 48. He gets a lot more points each level so its quite easy to raise multiple stats evenly, but he wont notice a difference until each stat has amassed a certain amount. He wears gear primarily for its base atk/def/acc bonuses, the str/vit/dex bonuses are just kinda nice to have.

New
Lv 2 glad has 4 point to allot. (2 per level)
He puts 1 point in to str and now hits a mob for 50 HP. Used to hit for 48. He could now put all those points in str for a much more noticable effect than before but would in turn suffer more from neglecting other stats like vit and dex. Because stats have such a good effect and are so limited, he would be much more aware of the specific stat bonuses that accompany gear when he decides what to equip.

I figured it'd pretty much be the same, you'd feel like every point you added made an actual difference but you wouldn't have enough to power yourself beyond what we currently have. Thats just kinda what i thought they meant when they said they were adjusting stats to show more of an effect, i didnt think they'd be powering us up or anything, just making us more mindful of how we allot and what we wear.

So it looks like stat allocation is gone for the time being.

Now it's time to gear up and materia up and see what we can really do with this new stat system.
Should be interesting to see how SE will distribute stats for each class, giving us an idea of how they envision each class and their strengths/weakness.

im really sad their taking out elemental stats. i wonder why? itd be awesome to specify which element you choose to align. its all about customization. and its not like they need to make elemental stats OP either, at least allow them to have a slight modifier on that spell/skills damage/acc/crit or something.

No, but you can still adjust them by other means, i.e. equipment and guild traits.

This needs to be said, because I am getting the impression that people are not getting it......

the automatic distribution of our points in not temp it is permanent, but when 1.20 comes, we will start getting "bonus points" to tweak our character the way we want.

maybe bonus allocations will work like merit points when a class has been maxed.

but i dont really see it happening with the current lv cap.. though it may be redundant to remove a feature, then add it again to grant bonus points after every lv up.

time will tell.

I think you have confused the matter even further actually. It clearly states we will get free point allocation some time after 1.20:

Attribute and element points will be abolished, and character development will be automated based on class level. A system whereby players can voluntarily allocate attribute points to each class will be implemented in patch 1.20 or later, along with class balance adjustments.

What Kailea meant was that both systems will exist essentially. There will be a set progression in stats based on your class and level for that class but you will also be given bonus attribute points each time you level up as well, however they will be fewer. This was stated a while back in a letter from the producer I think.

They initially said they wanted to implement this at the same time as the removal of physical levels but I'm thinking they had to split it into two parts.

As long as stats don't become king of the hill. That's my fear with these changes that the game will become a quest for stats. I hate that myself and I'd rather have natural growth, but apparently that's a really unpopular thing with modern MMO players. :/ Will see how it goes once we get point allotment back and materia is in full swing, I guess.

I have the feeling it will be a very long time till I get my HP over 3000 again after 1.19.......

Ok I was under the impression that after 1.20 we would still have automated stats but have some that we can allocate ourselves. Like if you wanna be a DoT conjurer, you'd put the extra points into piety, mind for healing concentration, so on so forth.

And I also hope the elemental stats will actually dictate the amount of damage you do with that element.. So you can focus and be lets say a DoT Ice conjurer
