New to crafting? How should I level? A Guide in quick tips

1st, do 1-15 on your own, all the matts for the early levels are cheap & sold by npc vendors. The 1st class quests give you a massive shard influx. Do armorer last.

Next, level GSM to 50. Flawless Synthesis is helpful at early levels.

Unlock your challenge log, Limsa (Drowning Wench Quest.)

Do your GC provision quests everyday, and buy xp boost manuals with seals.

Do your ixali dailies. (Fallgourd Float)

Grinding: items you've never done before = xp bonus. Sell HQ leve quest turn in items.

The above = best bang per gil.

Then, Fuel your leveling with money. Find a crafter and see if they will mass produce HQ leve quest items. I normally do 1/2 board price. Shout for help & likely find people to do it cheaper/free.

If you have 99 leves to burn, as well as 400-1million gil. Take the crafter-in-a-box option that Mariene Vintrielle developed. It's well worth it. As a fresh 50 you'll make it back in a week or less.

Due to space restrictions, I couldn't fit a pre-amble. This is the advice I give to people who ask me for leveling kits. I don't really care what order people level 1-15 at, nor 15-50, but I find some new people want rigid advice. The above is what I say in those circumstances. I get asked to create leveling kits, almost everyday. I don't keep them pre-made, and only make them on a case by case basis. But I think it's cool that people make them. I'm surprised at the # of people who don't know about ixali dailies, the challenge log, and GC provision quests. Make sure your friends know about these gil/xp fountains.

Based on the OPs wording I would assume it's a full set of items needed to do all levequests up to 50.
Not sure why it's called a ''box'' tho, I don't think anyone sells them as a set?
Not a bad idea if anyone has/made a a full list of all the courier quests for each class tho; would certainly save a lot of(having to look it up) time in making alts.

Are their forum rules, about going over the limit with edits? It seems like that's an accepted practice, but I want to be mindful of the TOS.

Basically, what Mariene does, is she mass gathers leve items. And she will sell you all the leve items you need to go from 1-50 for a set price. All at once. She broke it down, so you get exactly the XP you need before switching to the next leve. (There are some reddit posts about this as well.) It takes about 70 leves to go from 15-50.

It's a popular service on Balmung. And basically you power 1-50 in an hour or so, just doing Currier leves. Cul-in-a-box(TM) is her signature branding, but she'll do anything. If you're on Balmung, hit up Mariene Vintrielle. She'll treat you right.

I like that suggestion for adding links.

I agree with most of these, other than Flawless Synth. Maybe it's just me, but I felt Careful Synth II has helped me infinitely more in the long run. I started with WVR to CRP and getting those two made the other crafts incredibly simple to level so far (with only two left to go).

Other tip I'd give is to unlock ALL the beastman tribes at least to Neutral. Sometimes the vendor prices for ingots, lumber, etc is much cheaper from the vendors compared to the market board (For example, cloth for high level weaver is half the price of market values on my server. Which also provided a nice stream of income being "that guy just selling items bought from vendors").

Not at all, everyone does it. Not much choice, the word limit is simply to small. This shows especially when you quote someone (word count of the quote also counts towards the 1000)

Plus there is a limit to how many posts you can make per day. If you were to make new posts for every additional thing you would soon reach that limit and be unable to post more.

Incorrect. At neutral reputation, you already have access to alot of mats which can't be bought from fc vendors (ex. Algoat horn from kobold)

aldgoat horn, vitriol, blue landtrap leaves from Kobold..
Sylphs also add a nice boon to your WVR mats with linen and velveteen, etc.
Sahagin vendor sells Olive oil for 8gil a pop!

I know some people that make the money simply by selling those items on MB especially the olive oil.

True, I guess the CP cost and the steady hand requirement always pushed me away from it. And maybe I've lost sight on how tough it was to push through those levels without the tools/gear.

Seems I was wrong. Indeed, with those extra materials its well worth starting off each of the beasttribes quests.

It's strength is still only strength on paper, so I wouldnt say that was the case. You need level 50 to get it, but by the time you get the required class to 50 your other classes will likely be beyond the point where the ability is of use.

If for some reason you have classes below lets say, level 20 or 25; then it's a really amazing ability.
I don't recall exactly how much progress you would normally get in the 20ish area tho.

You'd do better getting Steady Hand 2 at the same level CUL and using basic synthesis. Heck, you'd do better using the normal Steady Hand, that'd still cost you way less CP for the same success rate.

CP is your most important stat for crafting, from the beginning all the way up to the end. More CP is more actions, which means more stacks of Inner Quiet, which goes further towards quality than your actual control does- especially once you get Byregot's Blessing. But even before then it's contribution should never be sneezed at, and even early on you can get Rumination to make use of your stacks.

At level 1 you don't have a single ability that uses CP. It won't be untill maybe level 18 when you get Standard touch that you will start using more CP then you have. So ''from the beginning'' isn't true.

For that matter you don't have Inner Quiet at the real lower levels either. And BB? You won't have the durability/CP to use it to good effect then.

If you're going to cross a skill at level one(I don't think you have cross slots then anyway? I don't know, I haven't levelled a crafter since 2.0, but I'm pretty sure it's one slot every 5 levels), you could just cross in one that uses CP for something more substantial like Manipulation. Really, standard touch is a very niche skill unto itself(Haha twice the CP for 25% more quality and 10% more success, you should only ever use this on good/excellent procs)- you can have hasty touch by then, and even the 70% success rate offered by steady1+hasty matches the basic success rate of basic touch for about 25% the CP cost. All that saved CP can go into something useful- like Manipulation. My knowledge might be sketchy for levelling since it's been so long, but I know when I was levelling later classes and had access to a lot more cross class skills that the norm, that I usually stacked control but had most problems running out of CP and it took until 50 to find out that CP may as well be your lifeblood. Justifying differences for crafting early on by saying "You don't even have a single ability that uses CP at level 1" doesn't really hold water when every class gets Master's Mend at level 7, the third skill any crafting class gets(And certainly before any of that level 37 flawless synthesis malarkey). You even get Inner Quiet by level 11, which is 7 levels earlier than the proposed time you start using CP for a niche skill. By the time you hit level 15 you're given a complete if basic kit of skills: you have a synthesis action, a touch action, a durability restore, steady hand, inner quiet, and a useful skill unique to whatever class you're on. Plenty of stuff to burn CP on there that's not an inefficient touch action.

The truth of the matter is that you shouldn't be struggling with any crafting in general up to at least level 15. The materials are all NPC buyable, every class gets a useful(Seriously they're all useful) cross class skill at 15, and the recipes are geared to be far easier to HQ then. There's no secret strategy for that set of levels because it's not necessary, and especially unnecessary to grind a class up to 37 for an incredibly flawed(haha) cross class skill just to inexplicably make the tutorial tier easier somehow.

The fact that you haven't leveled a crafter in some time kind of shows..as it does not become harder at atleast 15, it actually becomes easier at 18 because you get standard touch. In addition, the single most important stats when leveling isnt CP, or control; it's craftmanship.

While I would not suggest powerleveling just for Flawless Synthesis, if you do get you obtain it, then it will hands down be the best ability available to you below level 25 atleast.
