Any easier way to get Savage Aim / Might Materia?

So is there any better way to get savage aim / might materia? I am working on my relic and I am on tier 4 for DET (tier 2 on CRIT) and they run on average 400-500k each. If it was 100% success rate it wouldn't bother me so much. But the thought of tossing 400k into the crapper on a 60% success rate kind of bothers me. I don't have a mess of gil so that would eat up like 1/6 of my savings.

Any advice would help. I know some people spirit bond their own stuff, but isn't that terribly time consuming?

spiritbonding isn't too bad. You can spiritbond a full set of 11 pieces in about 40 minutes.
If you're wearing crafter sets from Mor Dhona on all of your left side, that's a decent chunk of money even if you don't get IVs all the time. then the right side has chance to give you what you need.. But even if you don't, you can always sell it for money.

Besides, you're talking about a relic... the entire thing is "terribly time consuming"

Wont spirit bonding with crafting gear on give you crafting materia?

I think they might be suggesting spiritbonding for crafting materia, which you could sell for a lot to buy the materia you want... but I could be reading too much into it. That's not a bad idea though, doing that to get crafting or gathering material, sell those and buy the ones you want rather than leave it up to chance.

i'd have to look into how much gathering materia sells for on my server. I have miner and botanist to 50 so I could potentially do that. Crafting seems like it would cost more gil as crafting that much would eat up a lot of shards/crystals.

Mathematically speaking, last time I checked (and the math does keep changing), crafter materia was worth double the value of DoM/DoW materia on average. This was using a 5% yield rate for IV materia from i45-i47 items (which could be right or could be wrong, but my data does suggest it). This means that you can make double the money with crafter materia, and then sell them and buy the DoW/DoM materia that you want. Prices change though, so you should do the math yourself.

The problem with DoM/DoW items is that half the time, you get garbage that's totally worthless. You seem to have equal chance to get any valid materia that the item can turn into. Here are the breakdowns. If any of these are wrong, please please please correct me!

Assuming the above are correct, 6/14ths of the DoM and DoW materia are elemental and worthless. 3/14ths are main stats that are either useless to your class, or start out capped on all gear except accessories. That leaves 5/14ths of worthwhile materia, essentially 1/3rd. Assume I'm right and there's a 5% chance to get a grade IV materia from a level 45 item (the best you can do if you're doing open-world farming). Your chance to get a grade IV Savage Might materia from a given gear piece is 1.4%. On average, you'd have to meld 6-7 sets of 11 items to get each materia, and for relic (assuming you're not a PLD), you need 8 IVs if none break. On average, you need 11-12. That's about 100 sets of gear you'd have to SB, and the SB items aren't free.


Alternatively, if you are a legendary FSH and a maxed out CUL desynther, you can get Savage Might IVs from desynthing Nepto Dragons (the ultimate fish). You can also get Savage Aim IVs from desynthing Helicoprions. Both of those fish are Legendary Fish (the tier above Big Fish) and thus untradeable.

All of the prices listed the average on my server for the last couple of weeks, results will vary from server to server:

Spirit Bonding i70 DoM accessories will grant you about 50% at a tier 4 materia these days.
I currently craft about 2 full right side sets for about 200K-250K mats but the yields from these 10 items has been on the order of the follow.
4-6 tier 4 and about 8 of the materia of the following group: Savage Aim, Savage Might, Heaven's Eye and Quicktouge
Each of these un-needed Tier 4s (Heaven's Eye and Quicktounge) sell for between 220K - 450K on my server. Thus, I make about 800K per round from this.

Another option is SB i35-37 stuff, it bonds really fast and the DoW materia is Tier 2. which happens to be in shorter supply. Thus, selling for 40K-50K each, while tier 3 sells for under 10K.
The speed of bond of tier 2 can easily generate you about a million gil per day with an average play time of say 3 or 4 hours.
You do not even need to spend time crafting these items, just buy from vendors, the 20% SB speed decrease is more than offset by not crafting.

Correct, there are a couple reasons for spiritbonding crafting gear.

1. You don't have to make them, they're already readily available by vendor in Mor Dhona. Some of the combat gears don't go up to the i45 requirement for tier IV materia, but crafting ones do (except for the headgear, but cobalt preserves are i45 so you can use that one for the head).

2. Their prices are more consistent. Unless you keep getting Cunning (CP). Which you will from time to time, but at least you have 66% to land on a decent profit.


Also, you seem to be under the impression of spiritbonding the gathering gear AS a gatherer. That is not what I'm suggesting.. I'm suggesting you wear the gear as a combat class and just kill things to get it done.

OR.. If you already have a Miner/Botanist.. You could still make decent change by gathering things and selling them.. Although I don't know the situation of your server's market to say what kind of money you'd make. spiritbonding is faster overall imo.

Always SB i45-47 gear as a combat class in Urth's Font (the open world location at the end of Urth's Gift, not the trial!). You only need your i100+ weapon and the rest can safely be all SB gear. WHM works best, but any class works. Get in a party - there's a penalty for being in a party vs being alone (I think I heard 40%?), but the penalty only applies once regardless of your party size. So, just you and a chocobo: -40%. You and seven other PCs: -40%. The speed increase from multiple people makes up for the penalty very fast. Also, you do NOT have to attack an enemy for it to count, you just have to be within a certain distance when a party member kills it. When my wife and I SB grade 1/2 materia with i15 items in East Shroud, we sometimes have one person stay in the djigga area and the other go kill boars/treants/bats just outside, and we both get SB from the other.


Interesting idea to focus on the grade 2 tier. That would require i30-i40 items, and the ideal place to SB is somewhere with lots of enemies who are level 40-50. Where do you SB that stuff? I mean, if you go with i40 items, Urth's Font is still the best, but with i30 items, the water elementals are too high level for max speed. You'd need something more like level 40. Hmm...

Actually (and you'll find this SO much faster than the approach it sounds like you have in mind)- you can do battle in Gatherer Gear/Crafter Gear out in open world or a spiritbond party, and you should end up with Crafting/Gathering materia based on gear type. That's why people get upset in some forum threads about people spiritbonding in dungeons when they show up with half their outfit as Gathering/Perception/GP gear in a dungeon run where it impacts the team's performance... but when it comes to spiritbonding out in open world, you just need to make sure you can do enough DPS/Heals etc to survive against enemies at the level of the gear you're spiritbonding, especially if joining a spiritbonding party. It's not that hard with a high level weapon and a couple of high level equipment left side pieces for your class, and the rest be gatherer/crafter gear.

That's why Urth's Fount is popular for this, you've got lvl 50 enemies there you can easily and repeatedly AOE down with a few people. HQ gear spiritbonds faster and melded gear spiritbonds faster so I equipped a HQ Raptorskin Jerkin (Lvl 48 Gatherer gear), HQ Raptorskin Rings, etc I'd crafted for this purpose into a gearset I saved as my spiritbond loadout. And I melded a LVL 1 GP + 1 materia to each of them since they're super cheap and I heard it's better to stick with materia related to the type of gear you're trying to spiritbond. It surprised me how fast my outfit spiritbonded, got several materias that sell for 150k+ each on my server for half an hour's effort when I needed some for my forager's gear.

In my case I wanted Gathering materia itself. But the reason going this way could be more time and cost effective is that there is only Gathering materia applicable to 3 different stats- GP, Perception, Gathering- but tons of outcomes are possible with DoM/DoW stats and if you don't get the CRIT/DET materia you want you'll get something worth less... or elemental materia. So it's less risky you'd be doing it for junk materia. Like the posters above said. I would compare the prices of gathering and crafting materia on your server and if one is a lot more than the other, that's the kind you want to generate.

And if you're going to spiritbond gear for materia to sell- to raise gil to buy the materia you want- who has the most money to spend? High level crafters and gatherers who have a significant need for materia to boost their stats.

Just be sure the enemies are 10 levels above your gear, not the same level as your gear. Same level is very slow, but 10 levels above is max speed (at least 3x as fast). More than 10 levels above becomes slow again - it's a bell curve, with the peak at +10.

Thanks for all the replies! I started reading some other posts on Reddit. I am excited to try this out. Hoping it's not too overcrowded. Debating doing the tier 2 materia. It sells for about 40-50k on my server at the moment. Tier 4 is 400-500k but tier 3 is roughly about 10k. Seems like there might be less competition and more options for tier 2.

Many people have suggested Urth's gift for SB, but some others have suggested the beastmen camps because UG is usually taken. My wife and I are both lvl50 BLM so we might give this a go with our chocobos. I might push WHM to 50 just for heals and holy. :)

WHM is my absolute favorite DPS class for SBing, even when I'm letting my choco heal and doing pure DPS. The reason? Point blank constant AoEs. Targeted AoEs, especially Flare, take a long time to cast and if the target dies, they don't go off. Or, if you wind up not facing your target, they don't go off. Things move around so much while gathering them together for the AoE that it's not uncommon for one to move out of sight just before the spell finishes. And, on top of that, enemies you aggro crowd around you and enemies stacked on top of each other slowly spread out. Targeted AoEs hit the area around the target. Enemies hitting you from the other side might be out of range.

Another random tip for SBing - put your choco into Healer Stance. That way, they won't pull aggro off of you and out of your AoEs, which gets really annoying really fast.


The ideal place to SB is a place with a heavy concentration of enemies that are 10 levels above your equipment. You want enemies that you can easily gather together for AoEs, so you need them to be close to each other. If you're doing level 30 items for tier 2 materia, you don't want to do it at Urth's Gift because the enemies are too high level. Same with beasttribe strongholds and Castrums, where the enemies tend to be 46-49. You want to find level 40 enemies. I don't know the best place, but for dense level ~40 enemies, I'd try Halfstone in Western La Noscea (especially when Sharknado is up, which is like, half the time - kill the adds, not the FATE boss), or the Ixali in North Shroud (and the Durandels/bats nearby). I wouldn't do, say, SE East Than, because the enemies are so spread out there making it hard to gather them for AoEs. Same with most parts of Coerthas. I don't think North Thanalan or the western part of Central Shroud are good either. Okay, I'm out of places I know that have level 40 enemies ^^;

Anyone know the tier iv materia chance by spirit bonding level 45-49 accessories?
Does the chance get higher on level 55 accessories?

Also, what is the min level of the mob for spiritbonding? for example I have level 45 accessories, does it spirit bond with level 35 mob?

It's not an official figure, but 10% is the accepted number for i45-55. i70 is 50% and i90 is 75% I think.

So I went and looked at the value of the crafting and gathering materia and it wasn't too bad. A few of the tier 3 materias sell for crap, like 3k each. So in a sense you are losing money since the gear is like 4.5k? I can't remember for sure. The others were reasonable, one at 160k another at 180k, a couple at 60-75k. But those were tier 4. So... I happen to remember I had a gatherer materia tier 4 from a quest and it was going for 75k. So I put it up for sale. Didn't sell, didn't sell... So After a couple days, I looked to readjust the price. Dropped 20k! Wow... This has been happening A LOT with just about everything. People undercut and the price plummets. I was farming Clusters at one point, as they go for about 1k each. I figure I get 15k every 12 minutes. Well they usually drop to about 800g and mine sit on the market. Annoying.

i70 crafted gear yields tier IV material 75% of the time but the downside is that it takes 4 runs hq gear w/no melds of bray hm, halatali hm, and lost city of amdapor, 25% exact each run. Possible to cut this down further but haven't tried with food or fc buff (won't lose those when you die). I have tried potions seem like they might cut down runs from 4 to 3 but the effext is lost upon death.

You can easily reduce this to 3 runs by melding junk materia into the items. I personally would rather increase my bond rate than trying to depend on Mutamix to give me anything.
Additionally, you can also run Labyrinth of the Ancients for bonding. I do this every Tuesday because I have to run it any ways; and I get about 45% bond from one run.

What dungeon allows for the fastest SB with i45-50 gear?

Wandere's Palace I believe.. You'd want a dungeon around lv 60.

But for 45-50 gear, you can just SB without dungeons.

Update: Crafted our own rings and armor. Half crafting half gathering because we went out to SB on lvl50 mining nodes. Set I lvl to 37 and used spirit bond potion + the aetheryte rings. Took a little over an hour and a half to SB on pure mining. Mined separate, not partied. Got 0 IV materia... Unfortunately, the IIIs we got that sells for a decent price took a dive a good 20k so they are not selling. What we gathered doesn't really sell well. Either cobalt ore, ogre horns, or adamantoise shells. :(

Yeah, the recommendation was that the OP go kill stuff wearing crafting/gathering gear, to get crafting/gathering materia... what kind of materia you get is based on what kind of gear it is you convert, not what kind of activity you perform. So mining to Spiritbond gathering gear would be slow and painful, especially lvl 50'ish gear.

So if you can get stuff like a couple of HQ Raptorskin Rings, Raptorskin Jerkin, gathering earrings (electrum I think) etc and then kill those lvl 50 creatures in Urth's Fount you'll Spiritbond that in minutes, not hours.

You want to use the i46 equipment. There's almost a full set of i46 DoL and DoH equipment. Barring that, use equipment that's as close to i45 as possible without being under i45. Nothing under i45 can give IV materia. When doing openworld spiritbonding, you don't want to use anything over i45. When doing spiritbonding in dungeons (which you should only do with DoW/DoM gear, partially because there is no DoL/DoH gear that's i70+ and convertable), you want to use gear that's appropriate for the dungeon.

HQ i70 with 1 materia and SB potion is fastest bound with T4 with recent burn due to overgearing + echo T4 takes 6 min or so and you make 30%+ per run.

Well, I apparently don't understand the "fight stuff that is at least 10 lvls above u" because nothing can be that high

We went out with i45+ gear. The only 55 gear I had was my rings, pick, & sledge. Everything else was 45-48. My ilvl was like 46-47 or something when we went out. It was terribly slow SB. Usually ~1% per node. So I thought, ok- maybe I am not supposed to equip every slot so I can drop ilvl to speed it up. So I unequipped a few acc's and dropped to i37-40. Seemed to SB faster but still slow. This was just a test. I was hoping to make gil on the items gathered in addition to SB.

On a side note, we finished our relic scrolls. Ended up +14acc +33crit +28det. I wasn't paying attention on the amount of crit I was adding because I went infuse happy with cheap tier III materia. lol... Oh well. +3 determination isn't going to make or break my dps. To my understanding you can't just take a couple materia off and replace it with another, you must redo the entire scroll? It would be nice to modify the existing attributes.

No, you only redo the points you want to move. When you decide to do it, you're given a scroll that has all the materia already filled out like you had it before (75/75 infusions). You then go to this guy who will delete the infusions one by one. So, you could go and get your [+14/44 Accuracy, +33/44 Critical Hit, +28/31 Determination 75/75 Infusions] scroll, remove three crit, causing your scroll to look like this: [+14/44 Accuracy, +30/44 Critical Hit, +28/31 Determination 72/75 Infusions], and then you can use 3 Alexandrite to meld in three more Det IV materia, making your scroll look like this: [+14/44 Accuracy, +30/44 Critical Hit, +31/31 Determination 75/75 Infusions]. Then, you get that scroll and your Novus, Nexus, Zodiac, or Zeta (same steps to redo the attribute regardless of the stage) to the guy who will give you back your weapon with the new stats.

Also, 28/31 Determination isn't 3 less than 31/31 Determination at the Zeta level, it's 4 less. You aren't taking Zeta Breakpoints into account. http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen..._we_need_data/ if you want to learn more. But, still, like you said, it's not like a couple points will make or break the weapon. That said, 14 accuracy is 2 less than 15 accuracy, but 30 crit really is 3 less than 33 crit. Your current relic has a total Zeta bonus of +14. You can easily get it to +15 by either moving those 3 points from crit to determination, or by moving 1 point from crit to accuracy. To get to the max of +16 bonus points, you'd have to max out both Det and either crit or accuracy. A three stat weapon can't hit +16.

If you want to track such things more easily, you should use my spreadsheet (link in sig). It calculates things like Zeta Breakpoints for you.

No the only reason your lower lvl gear SB'd faster was because they're lower lvl.

When it comes to killing mobs, you get the most out of SB when the target mob is 10 lvls above your gear. Of course, with 45-49 gear you can't find that in the overworld, so technically you're spiritbonding sub-optimally, but that's the only way to get tier 4 materia unless you want to go to dungeons with higher lvl gear which requires some investment.

So just wear your 45-49 gear, then go fight the highest level mob you can find, they'll usually end up being lv 48-50 depending on which popular SB spot you go to.

Anyone know which melds faster in T4, i70 or i90? It drops i90 gear, so I'd expect the enemies to be either level 90 (enemies same level as gear that drops) or level 100 (enemies set to the level where SBing the gear that drops is at its fastest). i70 gear shouldn't bond faster than i90 in either case. i90 leftside is pretty cheap to make. I wouldn't SB i90 right side though...

HQ i70 gear with 2 melds, SB FC bonus, and SB potion requires exactly 2 runs of Labyrinth of Ancients (50% progress each run).

I believe i90 goes faster than i70 in t4. The merit of t4 is being overgeared. making the raid very fast. I'd recommend i90 in t4 over i70

edit: I've given up on this whole method though tbh. I had a i70 full left side SB conversion give me nothing but garbage. (Battledance.. Astrolabe converted into Ice IV).

I found out that self-price of crafted i70 and i90 gear is not very different on my server. Which is the drop rate of tier 4 materia for i90? Is ith higher than for i70?

If you go for the tier IV materia and must do it in overworld,i'd suggest north of wineport(forget name of place,where the 48-50 npcs are,the mechs and soldiers).

I do it in full crafting/gathering gear as a blackmage with just my good weapon,and add junk materia to all the pieces.Takes me about 30 mins i believe,give or take,to have it all spiritbond.It's great money if you dedicate to it,and are more solo inclined,like me :P

You also get lots of legionary visors to desynth,and garlean steel joint drops,which sell for a pretty penny on my server,so that's additional income.

Sometimes the fc buff for faster spiritbond is up,and i use spiritbond potion.

My wife and I used to use that spot, but then we found the magical Urth's Gift area. Urth's is literally 2-3x faster, especially if your party has WHMs to DPS it.

I've tried a few times there,usually full and can't get into parties,so yeah,solo wise that area i mentioned is the best i could find.
