Curious about leveling speed

I often see people claim on the forum or in other places, that it's easy to go from 1 to 50 in 2-3 days, but nobody ever provides details, at most only saying that they themselves did it, but with no details whatsoever.

Has anyone created a new character, leveled it from 1 to 50, including finishing the Ultima quest fight, within 3 calendar days? That is, including sleep, so reasonably at most 72-15=57 hours actual play time.

Or are they referring to leveling an alt class that has the armory bonus, in an FC with the EXP gain bonus active, plus friends helping run through all the dungeons or even dungeon spamming? Or are they doing it over half a year and only logging in when they have rested bonus?

If you have personally leveled a new character from 1 to 50 within the time span of 3 calendar days, i.e. before you ding 50 you have only ever logged in on that character on at most 3 separate calendar dates, could you share what you did, and the approximate number of hours that got you to 50? Or did you do it in 2.0 during the FATE zerg era?

For example "I got to Lv.30 by lunch on the first day, then I remember when I woke up on the second day I was already queuing for Garuda", something along those lines.


I'm genuinely curious, because people make it sound like they play for 10-15 hours a day and finish it in a weekend.


If anyone's really proud of having achieved this and is willing to reveal their LodeStone achievement page, that would put my curiosity to rest permanently.

For example, my first achievement of 10 quests was recorded on 2013/8/16, and got my GLA+MAR+CNJ+ACN all to Lv 20 on 2013/8/19, before I even joined the Immortal Flames on 2013/8/24, and by the time I ding 50 on my PLD (2013/10/09), I've also got past Lv 10 on many of the crafting classes and Lv 20 on the gathering classes.

So playing casually, it took me almost 2 months to ding 50 on my first class.

The achievement list will be definite proof.

What most people mean when they say this is that you can take a new CLASS to 50 in a few days. While it IS possible to do in a few days with a fresh character, the number of unlocks make it impractical unless you FATE grind.
If you look at my achievement list, you'll see I did exactly that with Rogue/NIN: It took me almost exactly 3 days to hit 50.
But I already HAVE a class at lvl 50 (several, in fact) so i received the EXP bonus, in addition to my FC bonus and food. Plus this was when the ROG was new, so FATE grinding was super easy with tons of mobs to kill.

I leveled my first class from 1-50 in about a month.

I started as CNJ, spent about 7-8 hours a day playing relatively casually, making sure to do my daily roulette. I also quested, a lot, and took the time to level my crafting classes a bit, mainly because I fell in love with crafting from day one I will say, though, that I did have a bit of help from the refer a friend circlet and fc xp bonuses, though, so its not a solo level experience.

The main scenario, however, I didn't finish until like month 3. I got to lvl 50 before even beating Titan. Unless you care about battle class endgame, the main scenario is relatively unneccesary.

Also, leveling multiple classes slowly is REALLY inefficient. higher level cross class skills are amazing, and you can help your low levels much easier with a single level 50 character on-hand.

Cross class skills are not necessarily at all on the leveling path save a few special cases like Provoke (WTF Square Enix) where a crucial tool to the role is missing. And as long as you have a class with higher level, you get the Armoury Bonus on every other battle class, so it isn't necessary to first get one to "50" before working on others. Having a 50 does mean that sometimes you get to ride into a camp of enemies, pick up the quest objective and leave on your 50, but if you do that on all the quests you probably slow down the leveling speed.

Still, I'm really only interested in the leveling speed of a fresh character. Perhaps it turns out that this "2-3" days started as "a week or so" and people gradually shorten it in their comments wanting to appear knowledgeable or being good at the game, vaguely referring it to "a few days", and finally "2-3 days".

There's also the factor of that particular mob grind bug position (AOE hits mobs but mobs can't hit you), a particular FATE with infinite mob spawns as long as you don't complete it, and the Bomb guildhest oversight---all of these granted extremely efficient EXP gains and were all patched away. Some people may have been using these now unavailable shortcuts in their leveling but genuinely forgot about this fact because it was considered "normal" at that time.

I've been playing for a little over two weeks now at what I'd consider a "normal" speed (couple of hours a night during the week, more at weekends) I've got two War classes at 40 so far (started as Pugilist switching to Rogue, got bored and swapped to Lancer) and I'm just trucking through the main quest at a reasonably casual pace. Considering the amount of basically unskippable main quest scenario stuff I've had to do to unlock everything, I don't believe for a second that a new character could blitz their way to 50 in three days without substantial assistance from people rushing them through all the dungeons and stuff. Hell, I didn't even get my chocobo until about level 25 and that in itself is a huge timesink when you're forced to run everywhere on foot.

Sure, if you've already done all the unlocks on one character and you're just spamming hunt log entries and FATEs to level another class, it'd probably be quite a lot faster, but definitely not for a new player.

8/16/13 level 10 Beta ( played lots of different classes)
8/17/13 level 20 beta capped at level 20
8/24/13 early access started at 2am PDT ( I had a late start that day was in the PM)

8/25/13 level 30 ( I remember having a hard time logging into the game for two days cause of server issues 90k days lol)
8/27/13 level 40 (hit 100 fate achievement, 10 instant dungeons, 20 battle leves, 7 guildhest same day)
8/28/13 level 50 (bumb on a log achievement)

Catrum/Praet mapping was 8/28 as well.

All in all it took me 50-60hrs to hit level 50 with my FIRST job. Hope this is what you were asking for. I'm pretty sure there are people who did it faster than 50hrs.

All in all fate grinds in between dungeon ques is the fastest way to get to 50. Thats pretty much it.... once you get a job to 50 the secondary ones are a little faster (50% bonus xp) so.

The one thing that will slow you down is the initial 1-50 story quests as they do take a lot of time.

Also got to find out WHEN they did this. At the beginning of 2.0 the FATE train was so strong that was all people did and could level up very quickly. they skipped all sorts of content though and didnt do story or dungeons or any of that, just straight FATE train. I wouldnt doubt that this was how people do the quick leveling. While it may work to get you to max level it doesnt teach you how to play the class in a party setting, you dont earn your 5lv skills, and you miss out on the majority of what the game actually has to offer. People getting to 50 in a few days are min/maxers, only looking for the single most beneficial portion of the game then focus solely on that. I wouldnt worry about competing or replicating it, play the game at your own pace and have fun.

Indeed, during the launch FATE grinding was the fastest way to level with FATEs all finishing in minutes. Would you say this FATE grind will be of the same leveling speed if someone was to do it today with a new character?

Thanks for the advice, although as you could find out from my LodeStone profile, I have no problem with leveling (Lv50*2, Master Crafter, soon to be Master Gatherer). I was just curious about this because I often see people saying to newbies that 1-50 takes 2-3 days easily. IMO "easily" would take at least 1-2 weeks of consistent play, of say 4-5 hours a day, not the 50-60 hours in 3 days meaning close to 20 hours a day of play time.

no, dungeons give way more xp than fates do as far as time per is concerned. However, dps que's suck bad, like really bad so doing fates whiule you que dungeons is the way to go. If you are a tank its pretty much instant que so not much time for fates. Healer is almost instant also but you have time to do fates with that

If you grind out FATEs, you can probably level from 1-50 in a handful of days.

Not that most people will do this.

It took me from 10/15/2013 to 2/2/2014 to get my first job to 50...that was with trying out other jobs, doing storyline, crafting, etc. I think that's reasonable, if not a little slow for most new players. If you stick to one job, you can probably cut that down to 1-2 months. I was swapping between PGL/BLM/WHM before settling on WHM. Actually only took me 1 month to get from 1-50 on WHM...so most of that time was spent grinding out other jobs XD

This. If you're just grinding to level 50 and not doing the story quests, it goes quite fast. When I first started playing, I didn't realize that I was supposed to be doing the story quests and so I hit the trial level cap in a couple of days of casual play from just killing mobs and doing FATEs and sidequests.

I think this heavily depends on the class you are levelling, or whether or not you can get into dungeons really quickly. If you use everything available at your disposal its easy to hit 50 really quickly. Not sure about 2-3 days but definetly not much longer than that.

Dungeons are extremely good XP, especially if you have rested xp.
Your challenge log also provides alot of bonus experience. Something we didnt have when 2.0 first came out, so its become even faster to level now.
Hunting log!! Dont forget about it. Also alot of Bonus xp. If your not doing dungeons, work on your hunt log. You get a separate hunt log for each class.
Quests! I actually disagree with above post. Quests can take you quite far. Some of them may seem time consuming but it really is worth it.
If you are waiting to get into dungeons, do fates or do your hunt/challenge logs.

I think it took my alt three days of serious grinding in 2.1 to go from 1-50 but I had help. Even without the armory bonus it's not too bad, but you need to abuse a few things.

1-20 can be done in a couple hours if you have someone power leveling you out of party and then you do dungeons which give a level until 20.
20-30, you can get to 22 with hunt log boosts, then it takes probably 5-10 hours in Quarrymill to get to 30 without the armory bonus.
30-40 takes a while without armory bonuses or rested. 10-15 hours probably.
40-50 either takes a really really long time if you just play it straight, or it can be moderately fast if you abuse map completion bonuses at level 48 and do speedy DD first section spams in a premade party from 44-48.

Most of what I wrote is unnecessary or counter-productive to a fresh character though, since you have to do the story which is in combination with mandatory dungeons probably 70% of the experience you need to get to 50. It really helps while leveling beyond 20 if you have a buddy doing Leves for you while you do your story fetch quests. It can keep you constantly current and never have to actively stop doing the required story just to do FATEs or anything.

A couple things I've noticed as I've been working on leveling 7 classes in parallel.

• XP requirements per level have logarithmic growth, but most XP rewards outside of story quests and dungeons have linear growth.
• The XP rewards for turning in a level X levequest is barely 1k greater than those gained by turning in a level X - 5 levequest.
• The XP rewards for doing a standard FATE (not a Notorious Monster FATE which doubles rewards) that you meet the requirements for that you do not need to levelsync to participate in (i.e. you are no more than 5 levels over) will be greater than the rewards for participating in a FATE above your level.
• Dungeon mob XP increases logarithmicly. It will take the same amount of dungeon runs to go from 32 to 35 running Brayflox's Longstop as it would take to go from 47 to 50 running Aurum Vale. Biggest limiting factor is queue times which make timely leveling this way unfeasible for DpS. Both Healers and Tanks can take full advantage of this.

2 things

(1) leveling to 50 and completing the storyline passing Ultima are NOT the same thing
(2) many people "claim" the 2-3 day thing after already having another 50 first. there is a big EXP boost that helps out a lot with this

I personally don't believe it is humanly possible to pass Ultima in 3 days, even with hardcore play sessions of like 18 hours per day.
Took me about 5-6 weeks my first time casually playing, watching all the cutscenes, reading the storyline, and playing around on other classes.

Personally I think it is possible to do in one week if you skip all cutscenes and rush through everything.

There's so little to do without the main story....you can't even do any level 50 dungeons until you beat ultima. Don't spread lies like this, it'll confuse new players. Main story should be grinded out as quick as possible to at least that point, and if you care about getting ALL fights and dungeons you need to do all of it >.>

It's possible and it's been done.

Back on page one I posted my dates from 1-50 when I 1st started to play, took about 50-60hrs. I'm pretty sure there are people who did it faster. Really not hard to grind to 50 If you have the time. 12-18hrs a day you'll be done in 3-4days faster if you do it smart. Its about knowing what areas to do fates, When to hit up dungeons and doing hunt logs. Even without rested exp you can do it.

I don't spread any lies. I'm a crafter. I haven't even switched to a battle class in weeks. Think about how much of the main story is actually required for end-game crafting, end-game Gathering, or someone who just wants to grind the gold saucer all day. The ONLY reason to do the main story all the way through is if you are a fan of the ffxiv battle system. I'm not, and I know plenty of people who also aren't.

Don't accuse me of lying, unless you 100% can back up that NOTHING can be done without what I say. it looks bad on you.

I didnt even consider just being a craft/gatherer. I dont think most people on here even assumed that.I think most of us assumed that the information the OP was after was in regards to Battle classes. For DoL/DoH classes things might be different. But I have to ask, most people dont do the main scenario for the battle system, they do it for the story... so why play FFXIV if you have no interest in its story?

I started this character late on the 19th, which is why I only have 5 achievements on that date, and got my beating the game achievements past midnight of the 23rd, technically the 24th but it was really just the night of the 23rd for me. It was basically 3 1/2 days of grinding. I wasn't even that efficient about it, I just played a lot and did a little DD farm and saved map completions for when I was leveled up.

Not very proud of that level of grind I did but it certainly can be done.

most MMO players don't play the game for story..

There are largely 2 schools of players in FF14. FF14 playerbase is quite a bit different than other MMOs though, so there's that.

Better question may be "Why play Final Fantasy if you have no interest in its story?" and my answer to you would be, I'm not playing this game because it's final fantasy, I'm playing this game because I'm an MMO gamer and my friends just happen to have landed on this one. Of course, among them, there's the:

Story guy (just played his first character to 50, then made an alt to redo the story)
I could just as easily ask him why he doesn't go into end-game when MMO is all about the end-game

Crafter
I could ask THIS one why he doesn't get into combat more because final fantasy is about combat


PvP'er
I had to ask this one why he dragged me into FF14 when I was perfectly content playing WoW on my own...



Anyway, different players have different ideas on how to play their game and FF14 just seems to have a little more variety in it than other typical MMOs.

I'm personally an end-game PvP'er/crafter. But since PvP in this game is almost non-existent, I've taken on a role of crafter for the most part..

Are you really that unfamiliar with the craziness of online gamers to think that because someone who happened to link his time didn't do it in 3 days, it's simply impossible? He just posted that as an example, there are countless people bound to have done it faster.
For example when I used to play Diablo 2(ancient history, I know) I never got a character to level 99 in under 2 days or even 2 months.. But that doesn't mean it didn't happen. It's well documented that plenty of people have.. (couldn't think of another game where there's a ladder for speed leveling)

Eh... yea people say you can hit 2-3 day all the time, which is true.

Why people keep bringing up making new characters, going through main scenario and stuff? Yea these things will slow you down.

But leveling another class to 50 can be done super fast, heck, people were close to 50 within 24hr release of NIN and was well under 2 days before the first NIN on Balmung hit 50. You get 50% exp bonus after DoW/DoM to 50, dungeon exp have been boosted, queue for dungeon while FATE/Hunting Log/Leve in the mean time. DoH/DoL is even more of a joke to hit 50 with some leves available...

As gillionaire said quite eloquently, I play this game because I enjoy the crafting system, and my friends decided to play here. Personally, I was bored with the main scenario quest before level 10, and skipped all of the cutscenes and the dialogue, because I found it about equal to listening to a school lecture. it was literally the least favorite thing I did in this entire MMO, drag myself through hours and hours of pointless dialogue just to unlock a few fancy items.

What are you trying to accomplish, prove, or learn here? Are you trying to prove it isn't easily done? Or are you trying to learn how to do it yourself? Most people saying that they hit 50 in 3 days are talking about after their first capped Job. That doesn't make it any more relevant, which is what I feel like you're getting at.

The majority of players have a capped Job already, and that's the most important asset to leveling to 50 in 3 days. Otherwise, the other bonuses kind of pale in comparison. Other than the 50 bonus, here's what you need to fast track to 50 in that amount of time.

1) Have 99 leves stocked. 1-21 can be done in roughly 3- 3 and a half hours by completing leves such as, "Adamantoise Tears", which can be done without combat, and only take around 50 seconds (at max).
2) Hit up FATES while queued for dungeons, at this point. As long as you get decent credit, you're not missing out on EXP. However, if you have an FC party that will boost you, simply spam dungeons until roughly 30-ish. That's probably a solid 8-10 hours out, depending on how fast you complete dungeons. At which point...
3) Either you grind Coerthas FATES, or you continue doing dungeons, however... dungeons will take slightly longer than organized FATE grinding. This is until 41 or 42, which should take you another roughly 15-20 hours.
4) At this point you can FATE grind until 45 (about 7-10 hours depending on your dedication), and then you can DD run spam, which takes no longer than maybe 5 hours to hit 50, with a WHM/good party.

That is how you hit 50 in 3 days. The times are a bit off, I know, but the general idea is there. I didn't hit 50 in 3 days when NIN came out, but I was at roughly 40 by the 3rd day, it really isn't that difficult. Anyone trying to hit cap from a brand new character will never hit it in 3 days, it's impossible. You need the dungeons, which are unlocked via story, and there's Primal fights mixed in with that, not to mention tons of running tea around.

Dungeon leveling is pretty damn fast. The only problem is the queues are a huge limiting factor for DPS if queuing alone. (But this problem isn't very prevalent for healers/tanks)

If you go back and read what I posted in parenthesis, Day one I played several jobs, I could have hit the 20 cap in beta the same day, but I choose to level other classes. Early access started at 2am PDT but I was unable to play until I got home from work in the afternoon. I see that you started in april 2014, So you weren't around for the great 90k days of 2.0 launch/early access. Aside from that I did 41-50 in a day which is 500k more exp of 1-40. So it is entirely possible to do 1-50 in 2-3 days with no armory bonus. As I said took me 50-60hrs to do it. I don't see why people find it so hard to believe someone could do this in 2-3 days. There are people with no life you know?

I really don't see the point of this thread. People will level at whatever pace they want to level at. If it takes 3 days, does that really matter? Not unless you are on some kind of deadline. If it is just for curiosities sake, why are you questioning peoples' firsthand accounts so much? It is possible. Leave it at that. I think what you should be asking is how long does it take, in hours played not calendar days, for a fresh character to go from 1 to 50 if you actually want valuable information.

1-15: Hunting log
15-25: Leves
25-30: Fates
30-35: Leves
35-40: Fates/Leves
40-50: Fates/ Leves

When my girlfriend first started playing the game her computer delivery got delayed by two weeks and she would have missed her first in game event if she didn't have a character high enough to do all the legs of it. The above got her from 1-50 in about four days, only a few hours a day. Honestly I can't say I'd ever suggest that to anyone, but it's doable and I've done it for my own jobs/characters in the past.

IF they have their buddies carry them through and they already know all the content yes. But if they mean a new player then no freaking way. The only way I could see it is if you had a constant party grinding dungeons with you, as it is faster then fates provided you do not have any wait time for que.

To find out what "2-3 days to 50" really means. I've met a few newcomers lately and one thought (after reading through forums, although I'm not sure which ones) that he should be able to get to 50 and start on end-game content in 2-3 days, saying that everyone's saying this. With this thread and the solid info people have provided, fewer newcomers will be misled.

Because I have not done it myself, nor do I plan to do it, I cannot say to a newcomer whether it's true or not, or advise them on how to do it if they plan to do so. Hence I came seeking people who's actually done it to share the experience.

Note that I'm seeking people who had done it. Otherwise I know the leveling game as well as most other people, having participated since beta. But I don't want theorizing, I want actual experience.

For example some people think it's not possible to clear the main quest at least up to the end of 2.0 in 3 days, but it's been done as revealed early on in the thread. So the "2-3 days to 50" actually apply to clearing the 2.0 main quest. The "easily" part though is busted as a lot of people would probably consider 50-60 hours of play time in 3 days not something easily done.

Think of this as a mythbusting thread. The result: FACT.

I normally and by preference take a long time leveling up. That's the part of the game I like the best, so I try to make it last and take my time to make sure I don't miss any part of it. (It took me just over a year to get my first 50.) But about a year ago I had a three day weekend and decided to test out just how far I could get if I actually tried to level a character as fast as possible.

I made a new alt, a THM, used my main to fund her so she had lots of gil and good gear without having to earn it, and tried to race through the content. This was after I already knew the game and the world, so there was no exploring or learning curve involved like there would be for a new player. I had already played through much of the content with several other characters, so I was willing to skip the storyline, which would also make actual new players take far longer. I spammed the Duty Finder continuously, getting in as many dungeon runs as possible, while questing and running FATEs in between while waiting in queue. And the quests weren't done as actually following the story. I just raced through objectives as fast as I could, teleporting everywhere I needed to be rather than traveling there normally, not reading a word of anything the NPCs said, just advancing the game (and therefore more dungeon unlocks) as quick as I could.

For three days straight, averaging about 16 hours a day, I played that way, and managed to reach level 30. Now, I'm sure I could have gotten further if I'd gone with a tank class for instant queues and extra Roulette bonuses, or if I'd paired up with someone to speed through the content. Plus, I could get further if I were doing it now than I could then. (There were some significant boosts to dungeon XP after that point, plus additions like the Challenge Log.) It could also have been at least a little bit faster if my FC had FC actions unlocked for that XP buf, or if I'd thought of using food for its XP buf (though that food one is pretty minor).

So, for someone doing it in a challenge mode like this now, and who also has a full group of friends helping them do it, I could see maybe getting to 50 in three or four days of marathon gaming. But for an actual new player, who's also learning the game at the same time, no way.


(Leveling a secondary class/job on the other hand, with the 50% Armoury bonus, plus the advantage of having all the dungeons already unlocked, it's far more reasonable. That I can see plenty of people managing within three days, though it would still take some effort.)
